His musician dad told him not to go into music, but Lance decided to go for a liberal arts degree at Suny Albany. Instead of going for a major in Psychology he decided to pursue music full time. He had to start over in Berkeley as a freshman but stopped after a year and a half. After leaving Berkeley he started teaching guitar on a full time schedule. He found that it was unstable as students would leave town for summer vacation or christmas break. He also wasn't getting any benefits. This led to him working in different offices such as a gps company as a trainer in his Mid thirties. He would eventually find a gig on a cruise ship as a musician.

She was staying at an AirBNB, and it was a little bit of an unfortunate experience that she had with another photographer and colleague. While he was off doing another shoot at a different AirBNB, she took a series of striking and emotional self-portraits in this tiny room, and I think we can all agree he made a big mistake. Who knows if the shot would have been captured the same way though.....

Curtis uses a style that was based on art in the 20s and 30s, which is reemerging. It is like the xbox game, cuphead as well as Mighty Mouse. We talk about the best new animators and cartoons, like Steven Universe and Adventure Time. He works on a pro tablet and like to use Adobe Illustrator.

He does vector artwork, not pixel art. Vector is mathematical art. You are able to scale it to any size you want. This is very important for creating logos, as they can then use it on a billboard, or business card. He does fine shading on the tablet, but doesn't find it replaces sketching on paper at all. It is harder to make a straight line on a tablet, and easier on paper. He will sketch by hand and then import the image.

Jason is a fine artist and illustrator from Portland, Oregon. He was in tech for about 10 years before that. He was trying to presue animation from tech perspective (flash). He later got into software engineering but decided he wanted to be an artist for a living after 10 years.

He never expected to be a digital artist, and everything he did as an artist in the eighties was analog. He bought a tablet, invested in the Ipad Pro, got an apple pencil, watched all the tutorials, and started doing some comic book art, digitally. He uses Pro Create, as it is only 10 dollars and just as good as more expensive programs.

Floofie from Instagram is in studio today to talk about her experience as a model in Portland as well as a recent three day shoot that she did in the highest place in the world... Death Valley. A lot of conceptual shooting like lighting rocks up with different colors. She prefers to do concept shoots as it inspires her poses. She was shooting with Clint Castor out in California. one of her favorite things is to connect with a friend when she is on the road. She is going to have a baby in 5 months so we will have to take a short break and will be cutting back on travel in the third trimester. She has a whole room dedicated to wardrobe and will usually bring her own outfits to modelling shoots in Portland. Her parents were hippies and her mom was a nudist growing up so it was not hard for her to switch to being a nude model after doing modelling for 2 years. After asking the model mayhem forum if they would book her for nude shoots the answer was a resounding yes! The following week she scheduled an implied nude shoot at Sauvie Island beach, which is the exclusive place to shoot outdoor naked photography. She did her first nude shoot with Matt Schnieder at MS-photo.

Tomma Mueller was in studio to discuss being the owner of a Tattoo shop, going on a tattoo tour, sidepipe and more.

She has been a licensed tattoo artist for 11 years in Portland, Oregon. She has nine different coil machines but has mainly switched over to rotaries for coloring. She also uses a pen style machine frequently, which is good for traveling. With a rotary machine it is easier to do large field to faded color. It's not as hard on your hands because it doesn't vibrate as much and is not as hard on your hands. They are more consistent and don't have to be tweaked as much. She doesn't stick to one particular brand of ink but does make sure it is quality. She has refused inking ridiculous tattoos. Younger kids trying to get a boyfriend's name on their neck. She will refuse racist tattoos but has no problem doing a funny tattoo. It is possible to get tattooed by three tattoo artists at one time. She likes to spend time with her family and dogs, paint, draw, hike and workout in her free time. It is on her bucket list this year to get overseas.
