The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry. A historical drama set in 1893, about a young widow, Cora, and a local village caught up in rumours and superstition about a a mythical monster called The Essex Serpent. Claire Danes stars in the TV adaptation.
A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman. This is the story of a grumpy old man called Ove and his relationship with a young family who move in next door. It’s being made into a movie starring Tom Hanks.

While the plot may sound heavy, it’s actually a very hopeful book and Miriam’s authentic Catholic faith is a natural part of the story.
