Why do Christians still struggle with anxiety when the Bible tells us not to worry?

Anxiety has become one of the defining mental health struggles of our time. But does experiencing anxiety mean you lack faith? Is anxiety primarily a spiritual problem, a psychological issue, or something more complex?

Licensed mental health counselor and author Melissa Fisher joins Dr. Jeff Myers to explore anxiety, mental health, neuroscience, and faith from a biblical worldview. Melissa explains what happens in our brains and bodies when we experience anxiety, why smartphones, social media, and isolation may be making us more anxious, and why genuine human connection is essential to our well-being.

They also discuss what the Bible says about anxiety, why simply telling someone to "stop worrying" isn't enough, and where secular approaches to anxiety can fall short. Drawing from her book, Jesus for the Anxious: 8 Weeks of Practicing Peace to Calm Your Worry and Fear, Melissa explains why overcoming anxiety doesn't necessarily mean never feeling anxious again. Instead, following Jesus gives us a firm foundation for facing fear, worry, stress, and life's storms with greater wisdom, resilience, peace, and hope.

In this episode, you'll discover:

  • Why anxiety is increasing in our culture
  • How smartphones, social media, and isolation affect mental health
  • What anxiety does to the brain and nervous system
  • What the Bible really teaches about anxiety and worry
  • Why Christians can experience anxiety without abandoning their faith
  • How relationships and Christian community build resilience
  • Where secular approaches to anxiety can fall short
  • How Jesus changes the way we face anxiety, fear, and life's storms

If you've ever wondered "Why am I still anxious if I trust God?", this conversation offers a biblical and practical approach to understanding anxiety and finding lasting hope in Jesus.

In this episode of Truth Changes Everything, Darrow Miller and Naomi Smith explore the deeper worldview battle shaping today's culture and explain why recovering a biblical worldview changes everything.

Pulling from their latest book, Occupy Till I Come: Equipping the Next Generation to Break the Sacred/Secular Divide and Disciple Nations at the Level of Culture, they explain what Scripture teaches about Christ's lordship over every sphere of life and why the Great Commission is about more than individual conversion—it is about discipling nations.

What if the heroes and leaders of the Bible weren't only spiritual heros, but real people who walked the earth? For centuries, critics have claimed the Bible is little more than myth, legend, or theological imagination. But archaeology has a way of complicating that story.

Today on Truth Changes Everything, we're talking with archaeologist Dr. Titus Kennedy, who has worked at nearly twenty excavation sites across six countries and researched artifacts in museums around the world. In his work, he traces the historical evidence for more than a hundred people mentioned in Scripture—from King David and Isaiah to Herod the Great, John the Baptist, and even Jesus of Nazareth.

We'll explore what archaeology can—and can't—tell us, why some biblical figures were once dismissed as mythical and what discoveries changed scholarly consensus. If you've ever wondered whether faith and history can actually coexist—or if archaeology undermines or supports the biblical story—this conversation is for you.

As anxiety, depression, and loneliness continue to rise, fewer people are attending church than ever before. But what if we've overlooked a powerful connection between faith, community, and human flourishing?

In this episode of the Truth Changes Everything podcast, we sit down with Rebecca McLaughlin—author of How Church Could (Literally) Save Your Life—to explore the surprising research behind church attendance and well-being. Study after study shows that those who regularly attend religious services tend to be happier, healthier, and even live longer. Why is that? And could church be part of the solution to today's mental health crisis?

We tackle some of the biggest questions surrounding faith and community:

  • Why are millions of Americans walking away from church?
  • Is church really different from any other kind of community?
  • Do the benefits of church attendance apply to young people—or just older adults?
  • What about those who have been hurt by the church?
  • How do you stay committed to a church when you don't agree with everything?

Rebecca also shares powerful insights on the impact of church on children, teens, and families—and challenges the idea that church is just a "nice add-on" to life rather than something essential.

If you've ever wondered whether gathering together in worship actually matters—or if it could even change your life—this conversation is for you.

Many of our listeners know that apologetics is the defense of the Christian faith, but did you know there are multiple ways to do it? Different conversations call for different approaches. How do you engage an atheist who doesn't believe God exists? Must you first establish God's existence before talking about Jesus? And what about the biases we all bring into these discussions? Can the Church itself still serve as a compelling testimony to the truth of Christianity?

In this episode, Timothy Paul Jones walks us through five key apologetic methods—classical, evidential, presuppositional, cultural, and ecclesial—and explains how to apply them wisely and winsomely in real-life conversations.

Timothy is a professor of Christian apologetics at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and pastor at Sojourn Community Church. He is the author of award-winning books including Church as It Is in Heaven, How We Got the Bible, and Christian History Made Easy. He holds degrees from Manhattan Christian College, Midwestern Seminary, and Southern Seminary, and is completing a Ph.D. at Stellenbosch University. Timothy frequently lectures and appears in various media platforms.

If you went back in time and you had the opportunity to be involved in an attempt to remove Adolf Hitler from the scene before WWII, would you do it? How you answer this question may determine your position on war, peace, and violence. Is violence sometimes necessary to produce good? Or is war and violence always wrong, no matter the circumstances? How does the Christian worldview best answer this predicament, and how should we as Christians view war in general? Jesus calls us to be peacemakers, so we need to be able to define exactly what that means.

Our guest today is Paul Copan, Professor and Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He's a Christian theologian, analytic philosopher, apologist, and author, having written or edited around 45 books and contributed chapters to over 60 more. Paul is perhaps best known for tackling tough questions about God and the Old Testament in books like Is God a Moral Monster?, Is God a Vindictive Bully?, and Did God Really Command Genocide? He's also served as president of the Evangelical Philosophical Society and currently chairs the Philosophy of Religion Group for the Tyndale Fellowship in the UK.

We may think that since the election of President Trump, we are living in a post-woke world. But this is a mistake. Wokeness remains the prevailing worldview in secular culture. So how can Christians thoughtfully engage with the ongoing challenges of wokeness⎯ in the church and everyday life? How do we accurately define wokeness, and why does it remain influential? And how can believers respond with clarity, courage, and compassion? It's vital for us to be equipped with practical steps for conversations, parenting, workplace pressures, and loving our neighbors well. We must stand firm in the truth.

Our world is being re-educated. Universities once devoted to truth and reason have become centers for ideology and activism, shaping a generation to believe that truth is relative, morality is subjective, and power is all that matters. But what happens when a culture loses confidence in truth itself? And how can Christians think clearly—and live faithfully—when the classroom becomes the battlefield of ideas? Today we'll be talking about how truth changes the way we think, the way we live, and the way we stand in a culture that's forgotten what truth even is.

Our guest today is Corey Miller. Corey grew up in Utah as a seventh-generation Mormon. Do you ever wonder if Jesus really claimed to be God? Maybe you've heard people say, "Jesus never said he was God," or you've been asked, "Why believe Jesus is divine if he never claimed it?" These questions don't just come from skeptics outside the church—they show up in church, too. Even if you're not coming from a place of doubt, you might still wonder how well what we're taught about Jesus matches up with what he actually said. So, did the historical Jesus really claim to be divine? That's what today's discussion is all about.

Today we're honored to have on Dr. Mikel Del Rosario. Mikel is a professor of Bible and theology at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He has coauthored 31 journal articles on apologetics and cultural engagement in Bibliotheca Sacra alongside his mentor, Darrell L. Bock. What happens when the church no longer sits at the center of culture? How do we make sense of a world where millions are leaving the pews, yet traces of Christianity still shape the very stories people tell about meaning, beauty, and truth? Beneath the surface of shifting cultural narratives lies a deeper question: how can we reawaken the memory of Christianity in hearts that no longer know its hope? This is where cultural apologetics steps in.

Our guest today is Collin Hansen. Collin serves as vice president for content and editor-in-chief of The Gospel Coalition. He hosts the Gospelbound podcast and has written and contributed to many books, including Timothy Keller: His Spiritual & Intellectual Formation and Rediscover Church: Why the Body of Christ Is Essential. Truth Rising isn't just a documentary—it's a call to courage for Christians navigating a culture redefining faith, identity, and morality.

In this episode, Dr. Jeff sits down with John Stonestreet of the Colson Center as they explore the civilizational moment we're living in and why clarity and conviction matter more than ever for Christians. Through the lens of Truth Rising, they discuss how ordinary believers can make an extraordinary impact by choosing courage over fear and grounding their lives in Christ-centered truth.

Truth Rising: The Study is a four-part small group study designed to move Christians from feeling powerless in the face of civilizational decline to realizing their God-given calling in history. Built on the framework of hope, truth, identity, and calling, each lesson teaches a key ingredient of the Christian worldview so Christians can be equipped with unshakeable confidence in the Truth. Then, each teaching video is followed by the inspiring story of a Christian who lived out the Truth to show what courage can look like in our cultural moment. Truth Rising: The Study is taught by John Stonestreet, President of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, featuring the inspiring stories of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Jack Phillips, Chloe Cole, and Omega Buckner. What if investing wasn't just about profit, but about people? What if the way we work, spend, and steward resources could reflect God's heart for justice, beauty, and human flourishing? In a world driven by gain, every choice we make—how we work, spend, and invest—flows from what we believe about God and the world he made. If creation is good and every neighbor bears His image, then even our economics becomes a form of witness. This conversation explores how the gospel reshapes our view of wealth, purpose, and human dignity, and how faithful stewardship can point the world toward the goodness of God's kingdom.

Our guest is Robin John. Born in a small village in India, Robin immigrated to the U.S. at age eight. His family settled in Boston as the only Indian family in an Irish and Italian neighborhood. Every generation faces the pull to drift from orthodoxy—to chase the thrill of false teaching or to be carried along by the cultural tide. And every generation must be reawakened to the true thrill of orthodoxy: the wonder and surprise found in rediscovering the electrifying paradoxes at the center of the Christian faith.

In this episode, Dr. Jeff talks with Trevin Wax about his book The Thrill of Orthodoxy. Wax turns the tables on the idea that Christian doctrine is narrow or outdated. Drawing from the church's historic creeds, he explains what orthodoxy is, why we can trust it, and how we often wander from it. By revealing how heresies always shrink the truth—elevating one idea at the expense of the whole—Wax shows that false teaching is ultimately dull and predictable, while orthodoxy is where the real adventure begins.

Great civilizations have risen, flourished, and fallen—leaving behind ruins, museum artifacts, and chapters in history books. Today, many wonder: Is the West approaching its own civilizational moment? A civilizational moment is the tipping point when a culture loses the very ideas and moral energy that first animated it. At such crossroads, there are only three paths: • Renewal of the founding vision • Replacement by a new guiding worldview • Decline and eventual collapse

In this conversation, Dr. Jeff and Os Guinness explore the foundational question facing the modern West: Are we still connected to the truths and vision that once shaped our flourishing—or have we severed our roots and begun to fade? Os Guinness offers a sweeping yet piercing analysis of our cultural moment, tracing the forces shaping our future and the worldview battles beneath them. But this is not merely a story of crisis—it is one of clarity, courage, and hope.

For those who care about the future of the world, who long for a society that honors human dignity and freedom, and who are ready to stand for what truly matters, this episode offers both warning and invitation.

Every day, we do commonplace things & interact with ordinary people without giving them much thought. What we need is a theological guide to thinking Christianly about the ordinary nature of everyday life. Leading ethicist Brent Waters shows that the activities & relationships we think of as mundane are actually expressions of love of neighbor that are vitally important to our well-being. We live out the Christian gospel in the contexts that define us & in the routine chores, practices, activities, & social settings that give ordinary life meaning. It is in those contexts that we discover what we were created for, to be, & to become.

Too many boys are turning to virtual worlds of television, video games, digital media, and the internet to find realms they can conquer and areas where they can excel. The result of this virtual conquest is often apathy, apparent rebellion, or outright resistance to real-world challenge. How can a biblical worldview speak to this issue and offer young men a flourishing vision for their future?

Today’s guest is Mark Hancock, who is the CEO of Trail Life. Mark began his career founding a national advertising agency and running it for fifteen years. His conversion to Christ led him into ministry as a Youth and College Pastor, Associate Pastor, Homeless Ministry Director and Global Event Director for an international ministry, organizing events on five continents. He holds two Masters Degrees in the Mental Health Counseling field, having spent several years in private practice, and has taught at secular and Christian colleges. Mark has been a guest on numerous radio and television programs including: Fox Nation's Starnes Country, Family Life Radio, Focus on the Family, and James Dobson's Family Talk Program. In 2017, Mark was named to the American Family Association's '40 Faithful'. An author, award-winning writer, and conference speaker, he serves as Chief Executive Officer of Trail Life USA and lives near Greenville, SC with his wife of over 30 years. They have two sons.

Why do so many young Christians feel like their faith is just another item on a crowded to-do list? Why does boredom creep in when it comes to something as life-changing as a relationship with God? Recent studies show a surprising shift—Gen Z men are now more likely than women to identify as religious, flipping a generational trend. But what does that really mean? As culture moves faster and attention spans shrink, many in Gen Z are craving something deeper, more meaningful, more real. In this episode, we’re asking the big questions—about faith, purpose, identity, and how to actually think well in a reactive world.

Today’s guest is Ryan Pauly. Ryan is the Founder and President of Think Well, the Director of Immersive Experiences at MAVEN, and an Adjunct Professor of Theology and Apologetics at Biola University. He has been working with junior high, high school, and college students for over a decade as a missionary, school teacher, speaker, and apologist.

Teenagers love to argue--what if we could train them to see logical fallacies, and to search after the truth? Join Kathy Gibbens and Dr. Jeff as we discuss why we need critical thinking skills, how to identify it on tv, social media, and in culture, and how we know the truth!

Kathy is a passionate educator, speaker, and podcast host dedicated to equipping the next generation with critical thinking skills. As a 13-year homeschool mom, business owner, and Bible study creator, she first discovered the power of logical reasoning when her daughter studied logical fallacies for school. What began as a fun learning experience soon turned into a mission to help others recognize good and bad thinking in everyday life.

Driven by a deep concern for Gen Z and Gen A, Kathy launched the Filter It Through a Brain Cell podcast to teach essential discernment skills in a world where truth is increasingly difficult to distinguish. IVF, energy crises, abortion, and gay marriage--can a "pro-child" framework help us understand all of it? This episode will step on some toes!

Proverbs 13:22 declares, “A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children.” The Bible consistently emphasizes the importance of children, yet government policies often seem to sideline their needs. Why is this the case? What role can the Church play in amplifying the voices of children and ensuring their rights are prioritized? Now, more than ever, Christians must rise to champion the rights and well-being of future generations. Welcome to the Truth Changes Everything podcast where we explore where God is at work, changing everything through Jesus, the truth incarnate. Today we’ll be talking about how truth changes the way we handle the rights of children.

The guests today are Katy Faust and Josh Wood. Katy is Founder and President of Them Before Us, a global movement defending children’s right to their mother and father. She publishes, speaks and testifies on why marriage and family are matters of justice for children. Josh is the Executive Director at Them Before Us. If you want to change culture, you begin by changing language. The enemies of the gospel know this all too well. They’ve been cunningly at work redefining our most fundamental words, embedding them in our institutions and school curriculum, all to transform society to reflect their harmful, anti-Christian beliefs. As followers of Jesus Christ, how should we respond? By clearly knowing and defending the true biblical definitions of at least ten critical words: truth, human, sex, marriage, freedom, justice, authority, faith, beauty, and love. If we long to see a revival in the church and a reformation of culture, we must recover the true definition of these ten foundational words.

What does it mean for Christ-followers to truly be pro-life? Is it merely about voting the right way or financially supporting our favorite candidate? Perhaps there is more to embodying the life-giving message of Jesus than meets the eyes.

Scott Klusendoft and Dr. Jeff discuss this timely topic and more. Pro-life Christians, take heart: the pro-life message can compete in the marketplace of ideas if Christians properly understand and articulate that message. Too many Christians do not understand the essential truths of the pro-life position, making it difficult for them to articulate a biblical worldview on issues like abortion, cloning, and embryo research. Leander offers evidence from his own experience evangelizing on college campuses that the rising generation is longing for answers to their biggest questions. And open to hearing about Jesus in pursuit of those answers. The key in witnessing to them, he says, is to recognize and act on the truth that outrage is not a strategy, and to lead with a question when aiming to start a God conversation.

Dr. Bob Paul, vice president of the Focus on the Family Marriage Institute, explains what marriage is and shouldn't be in this discussion with Dr. Jeff Myers which may surprise some people. He acknowledges that one of the reasons young people of faith today may not want to wed is tied to the poor examples provided by some older married believers – who fail to let God direct their marriages in the righteous way he wishes. "The most common reason for divorce is 'irreconcilable differences,'" Dr. Paul explains. "But differences are never the problem in marriage. They are designed by God on purpose with purpose" to help us grow our character and Christlikeness as individuals who then help our spouses do the same.

For eight years, beginning when he was still a college student, Jameson Broggi worked tirelessly to get the South Carolina state legislature to pass the Reinforcing College Education on America’s Constitutional Heritage (REACH) Act. Signed into law in April '21, the REACH ACT requires all South Carolina college students to take a three-credit-hour class on the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Federalist Papers to graduate.

He and Dr. Jeff Myers discuss why he pushed so hard for the legislation and the impact it can have. "People aren't born knowing these things," Broggi says. "They must be taught and learned." And when they are, as Dr. Jeff explains, the results can change the electorate in a generation. In South Carolina every year, about 21,000 college students now take a class on America’s founding documents because of Broggi's work. And other states are currently considering similar legislation.

In this second episode in which he recounts his visit to Israel in the midst of its war with Hamas, Dr. Jeff Myers unpacks the complexities of subjects like just war theory and what Christians can do to help restore peace to the land where Jesus lived. He explains that Hamas attacked Israel not to achieve a military objective, but to achieve its long-stated goal to eradicate its enemy nation and notes how Israel engages the conflict from the exact opposite position: seeking only to defend itself while limiting civilian casualties when at all possible.

He points out that Gaza, ruled by Hamas, has received 15 times the aid it cost to rebuild Europe after World War II and says believers need to understand the motives of Hamas and how they are driving the brutal war or they risk being part of "a conspiracy of ignorance."

In this special episode, Dr. Jeff Myers recounts details from his recent trip to Israel with a group of multifaith leaders amid the nation's war with Hamas. He explains why he was flummoxed by research that shows the rising generation knows Hamas is a terrorist group, but still sympathizes with its attack on Israel because of Palestinian grievances.

He also speaks movingly of visiting the sights of bombings and burnings and seeing horrifying images or the murders of Israeli citizens and says he felt it important to experience because "In order to teach truth well, I have to immerse myself in an experience."

He summarizes his trip as making crystal clear a truth we all must understand: The attack on Israel is not a geopolitical conflict but a geotheological one, in which those who stand for a biblical worldview have been attacked by those who stand against God.

Author Natasha Crain knows a biblical worldview is a rarity in the U.S. today—with just 6 percent of Americans possessing what qualifies as such a framework for living. She exhorts that remnant in her book Faithfully Different to boldly stand for what the Scriptures proclaim as truth. A good place to start, she says, is by combatting the four lies that feelings are the ultimate guide, happiness is the ultimate goal, judging is the ultimate sin and God is the ultimate guess. Theologian, analytic philosopher, apologist and author Paul Copan answers the questions about God's character that Christians often get from nonbelievers looking to paint God as violent, misogynistic and racist. The author of Is God a Vindictive Bully? explains in this wide-ranging conversation with Dr. Jeff Myers that to get the full insight into God's goodness requires us to read Scripture in the context of both its cultural time and its literary genres. "God is not wrathful in spite of love," he notes. "He's wrathful because of love."

Christians and Christianity are treated almost universally unfairly in discussions of American history in secular universities, Dr. Mark David Hall explains in this discussion of his new book, Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land: How Christianity Has Advanced Freedom and Equality for All Americans. He discusses with Dr. Jeff Myers how since the mid 20th century secular leftists have largely read Christianity out of our nation's history—and when they have noted what they believe to be the impact of the faith and the faithful on the country they've viewed it through all the wrong lenses. The remedy, he explains, is to examine history factually, not ideologically. When we do, we discover that Christians have been a force for liberty and equality for all Americans—on issues as varied as slavery and abortion.

Growing up the 5th generation heir to Australia's largest media dynasty, Warwick Fairfax had his destiny decided for him. Or so he thought. At age 26 in the late '80s, fresh from Harvard Business School, he launched a takeover to bring the company fully back under family control again -- a bid that failed by 1990 and ended with the business founded by his great-great-grandfather going into receivership. From the ashes of what he calls that "crucible experience," though, was birthed a calling all his own as founder of Beyond the Crucible -- a vision built upon his faith in Christ and dedicated to helping others realize what he's now long known: they are more than their setbacks and failures, and their identities are not forever tied to the worst days. This week's conversation between Dr. Jeff and Jewish Author Dov Lipman, a native of the U.S. who immigrated to Israel in 2004 and served in the Israeli parliament, was recorded months before the Hamas attack on Israel. But the fortitude and hope that guides Jews today with their country embroiled in war is evident in Lipman's perspective that despite 2,000 years of persecution, Jews remain ever certain they will prevail ... because they believe they are God's chosen people. Regardless of the challenges that have come and will come, Lipman says, "God's Word will come true anyway. We'll emerge on the other side."

This special episode features Dr. Jeff Myers addressing the Western Conservative Summit about how Christians changed the course of history. They did it, he explains, by understanding truth to not be based on logical propositions or mathematical formulas, but by seeing it as a person: Jesus Christ. Noting how many in the rising generation question what's so Christian about being conservative, Myers discusses a pair of pivotal perspectives for an ordered and orderly society informed by a Jesus-centric worldview: understanding the value of every person as an image-bearer of God and rightly recognizing the rule of law as being based on rights granted not by society, but by him.

Libby Emmons' love of artistic pursuits stretches back to childhood, when she and her friends acted out the scripts in their heads. She went on to study the arts, graduating from Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University and launching a career as a playwright and journalist. But she discovered quickly that identity politics and liberalism's stranglehold on the arts community stifled the credibility and impact of artists like her. She's now editor-in-chief of The Post Millennial, one of the largest conservative news outlets in the world, where she urges her fellow creatives to stand up, speak their minds about their values and make it safe for others to do the same in the process. These radical alternatives abandon traditional biblical interpretations regarding marriage, gender, racial equality, justice, original sin, heaven and hell, and salvation, replacing them within a new fabricated morality. This fabrication is built around a so-called political correctness, cancel culture, hedonistic values, obsession with public health, allegiance to political parties, and virtue signaling.
