Marty Rash is well known in the Nashville healthcare and entrepreneurial circles.  He has founded and run two national hospital companies – Province Healthcare and RegionalCare Hospital Partners, he was worked with numerous other healthcare organizations, and has served on and chaired numerous corporate boards.

I had the good fortune to work for Marty at both Province and RegionalCare and knew some of his story, but it was great in this conversation to learn more about his growing up in a small town in Tennessee and how those experiences shaped his approach to care and culture and the importance of making sure that quality healthcare is available in rural and non-urban communities across the country.

Before we get to Marty’s great “Need to Know” advice and the story behind it, he shares some insight and thoughts on the state of the national healthcare landscape, the impact of Covid on our health are community, and looks ahead to what might be coming down the road.

Anna and her firm do amazing work with leading companies in lots of different fields, and she took their "design thinking" approach to her "best piece of advice" ever in that she crowd-sourced it, with her children.

Her suggestion to "Know what rules to break" is incredibly important as both a parent and a leader. Both involve "art" AND "science" - the key is knowing which to apply in which situation. Anna shares great insight on how to navigate the fine line between the two.

Here's a simple exercise (from Need to Know for Newlyweds) for newlyweds, or frankly anyone, to do at the end of the day.

Ask yourself one question, "did I make life better or worse for my spouse today?"

As we reach the end of what is likely the most challenging school year since well...forever I think its important that we take a minute to tell your teachers thanks.

So thank your current teachers (most likely parents or loved ones this year....) or precious teachers (Here's to you Mrs. Stanker from Pennwood Middle School) for the work they did to get you where you are today.

This thought comes from the OG Need to Know.
