On April 6, 2012, the fishing community lost a great angler, icon, and friend, Jose Wejebe, host of the immensely popular saltwater fishing television show, Spanish Fly. Through his show and his adventures, Jose shared his passion for fishing and a lifestyle that touched and inspired anglers around the world.
At the same time, Jose encouraged conservation, leading his viewers by example to take better care of the environment they so enjoy. Jose Wejebe never forgot his humble beginnings or those others that helped him find success. Throughout his life and career, Jose unselfishly donated his time, money and equipment to support countless charities including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Marc House, Wounded Warriors, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and many others. The charitable work seen on his television series, "Spanish Fly", documented only a small portion of his generosity.
Behind the scenes, he quietly assisted with many more charities throughout the world. He did so out of compassion and kindness, and was humbled by those who expressed their appreciation. In order to continue Jose's passion for the marine environment, and dedication to support those who face life-impacting challenges, The Jose Wejebe Memorial Foundation was founded in April 2012. Krissy Wejebe, grew up in The Florida Keys immersed in the world of sport fishing, conservation, and the natural beauty of the coastal environment. Her mother worked at The Dolphin Research Center and her dad was a fisherman.
After her dad passed in 2012, Krissy channeled her grief into action by establishing the The Jose Wejebe Spanish Fly Memorial Foundation and also manages The Spanish Fly brand, production and licensing.
Krissy is an avid outdoor enthusiast and spends time on the water with her two sons (AJ and Ryder) and boyfriend "Uncle Chuck." Her personal and professional lives are intertwined by a common thread- profound love of the ocean and a dedication to making a positive impact.

So, I finally found a home for an idea that I had back in 2020 during Covid-19 when I launched The Good Karma Rigging Crew and the Good Karma Sportfishing App.
During the years of when the App was in good use, we learned it was a lot to add various features. At the same time, more ready-made apps hit the market. The nature of innovatio. So I side-lined the idea I had to create a online fishing community with a credit based system.
When we started Good Karma Sportfishing on Patreon in December of 2024. We had an open mind and took it one step at a time. Now, coming up close to a year, it's a great platform and it could house the idea.

In this podcast I want to share an article that I truly consider one of the best I've ever read, for so many reasons. It's a classic from the legendary Captain Peter B. Wright, titled "Things You Need to Know About Seabirds." I find myself re-reading it year after year.
Peter, who we lost in 2023, was a titan in the fishing world. His articles were always simple, no fluff, straight to the point. He had opinions, yes, but never in an overbearing way that shamed anyone.
Why do I keep coming back to Peter's work? Sadly, guys like him really don't exist anymore, or they've stopped sharing their insights because of the drastic shift in today's fishing culture.
And honestly, in today's fishing world, it feels like everyone has a shaming opinion or wants to tell you you're doing it wrong. I'll admit, I've been guilty of that myself in the past. But every single day, I work on not doing that anymore.

His approach was always about real-world experience, backed by a scientific mind, focused purely on helping you become a better, more responsible angler. That's why I connect so much with his writing: stop shaming people, educate them, and then let them make their own decisions.
There's something profound about reconnecting with the past through these articles. It's like you can now hear them speak to you. When you're truly searching to get better in life, in fishing, or in anything, those voices will connect with you.

By adding a seawitch over the drone spoon it gives the drone spoon a little bigger profile. Once you put this set up in the water you will see magic happen.

In this podcast, I share how to catch jumbo size vermilion snappers, a popular game fish known for their vibrant color and delicious taste. Catching jumbo-sized vermilion snappers requires a unique approach that differs from the traditional fishing methods.
Vermilion snapper, also known as B-liner, is a species that's sustainably managed and responsibly harvested under U.S. regulations. They're known for their rosy-red color above, fading to pinkish then whitish below, with red fins and large eyes.
Vermilion Snappers can reach up to 24 inches (60 centimeters), usually weighing about 6 pounds, although it's more common to catch smaller ones.
Contrary to popular belief, using large baits does not necessarily attract large vermilion snappers. Instead, I emphasizes a specific method that I shared a few years ago to catch jumbo-sized vermilion and big yellow eye snappers in high pressured areas.
I shared this technique a few years back and the fisherman that are not afraid of change are now catching jumbo size size vermilion and big yellow eye snappers in high pressured areas.

So this is a bit unhinged- ear muffs if you are sensitive for kids. We started out by talking about Johnny Manziel (Johnny Football) on Netflix and that conversation leads into how people are behaving... It’s not about being right or wrong but getting it all out in the open. Sure there are consequences to how people behave, and speaking your truth does come with risks, but the only way we can create true change is if we have authentic conversations. What would be different if you allowed yourself to just speak what was really going through your head without worrying about what people think? Would you say the same things if you weren’t afraid of being judged or criticized for your opinion? Maybe it’s time that we filtered less and spoke our truth more. Not in a way that is disrespectful or hurtful, but with an energy of certainty- knowing that what you have to say matters and is worth being heard. At the end of the day, when you show up with your full authenticity, that’s when real change happens. We are having the courage to show up and say what a lot of people are thinking—whether you agree or not is your choice. Thank for listening and sharing!

In this podcast I talk about how to catch Key Largo wahoo. Using an electric reel as downrigger to get baits down deep in the water column is one my favorite fishing techniques for target wahoo. I use this type of set up for placing baits deep in the water column when targeting wahoo with live bait. The best Key Largo and Islamorada fishing spots for wahoo are the Bibb and the Duane wrecks at Molasses Reef located off Key Largo and the Eagle Wreck located off Islamorada. In my opinion the absolute best live baits for wahoo fishing are speedos and goggle eyes that are set deep in the water column using an electric reel as downrigger.
I can bet to say we all desire to build and have good relationships but it's not always easy.

In this episode I revisit my favorite bait for picky winter time yellowtail snappers. As the water gets colder the flag yellowtail snappers will get picky, use this bait and you are in business. This bait will make you look like hero this winter as you will be the only one catching yellowtails with ease while the rest struggle, but you have to do the dirty work first to get this bait.

This lure rigged over a baitstrip is what I am talking about in the podcast, I mentioned it a few weeks ago and the reports I am getting are what I expected. Guys are catching big fish with it.

Better have one for this November and December. Order the blue and white color then rig this over a baitstrip or bonito strip rather than a ballyhoo. Seems to be what the fish want right now.
Also if you do not have a downrigger, no worries. Just use the hand-line planer.
This is what I keep on my boat as a back up and what I used before I started using downriggers. I will be talking about this product in the next podcast. It is what you need.

Get your baits deeper by running bigger planers with this manual set up. I love this manual planer and highly recommend starting with this one. Get baits deeper, like I mention in the podcast and you will catch. Fish are pushing deeper earlier in the day with the boat traffic, be prepared this season.
