Do you want to build your brand on LinkedIn and want a quick way to do so?

To build a personal brand you must be visible. Whether you do in-person networking or market your business online, your audience cannot get to know, like, and trust you without seeing you.

LinkedIn is the best place to build your brand as a Women Executive and Consultant.

There are two types of LinkedIn Events:

-LinkedIn Audio

Each event is different and requires different tech tools and steps to leverage each one. There are pros and cons of both as well and I’ll be sharing both in the video.

In this episode, I’m sharing why you must leverage LinkedIn events if you want to get known for what you do and quickly build your brand.

Have you ever got on a discovery or sales call with someone with you and the conversation was going well but then took a turn downhill because they didn’t know what you do and who you do it for?

Well, you’re not alone. This happens to MANY service providers.

Episode 10| How to Attract the Right Audience with Video

To avoid that dreadful feeling that you’ve wasted your time on a call with someone that isn’t an ideal client, video can help clear the confusion. When you use video to attract the right audience you’re educating them

  • Who you are
  • What services do you provide
  • Why do you provide the services
  • Who you provide the services are
  • Who isn’t a good fit and why

When your videos address those exact things you have less of a chance of attracting tire kickers, unqualified prospects, and anyone else that will waste your time.

Video can help you attract the right people to your business that will not only become clients but will be referral sources to your business.

So if you’ve been debating on using video marketing to help your business this is definitely a great reason to do so.

Have you started using video to help you market your business?

Ever worry about running out of content for your live videos? You’ve come up with some ideas but you’re dreading your next live video because you think you’ve talked about it all. Well, there are 3 ways that you can come up with more content ideas for your live videos and they don’t require a ton of work.

Live Video | How to Come Up with Content Ideas for Your Live Videos

The goal of creating content for your live videos isn’t to reinvent the wheel. You don’t need 52 weeks of new content, you just need to make sure that your content speaks to your audience, gives them quality content and is binge-worthy.

Questions from clients, prospective clients and your audience

FB groups, your stories, basically any arena where you can ask questions or have questions and receive feedback from clients. FB groups/linkedin groups- you get good info. You see good and bad advice given and you can create your own document that you can refer to when creating content.

Topics talked about in complementary industries.

A Blog, podcast or video that they’ve implemented and consider how you can apply this to your industry and audience. I’m not suggesting you copy the exact title, idea or their content but I am suggesting that you see how the topic can be applied to your own industry and services. Create your live video topic off of that.

Repurpose Your Old Live Videos

This is one of my secret weapons to never running out of content for my live videos. Every live video that you do can be repurposed. You can repurpose topics, points within the live video and key points and create new live videos from them. IF you don’t have a live video repurpose an old blog, podcast episode or even a social media post.

You’re always coming into new people all of the time. Even people within your audience may need to hear something over again before it resonates.

Each month you should be planning out your live videos. That’s what I do. When I go to brain dump my topics I go through the list that I just gave you. This way you know what to talk about, how to infuse your live videos with your launches and promotions.

The more you do this the easier it is to come up with content and the ideas just start flowing.

Live videos aren’t going anywhere and the easier it is to come up with content the easier it will be to show up on camera. Whenever you start to panic refer to the 3 ways and you’ll get your creative juices flowing in no time.

What’s your next live video topic? Share with me over on Instagram by sending me a DM.

We all love having ideal clients that sing our praises and refer business to us but what happens when there’s an issue with a client and it results with them being unhappy.

Brand Reputation | How to Handle Unhappy Client Situations

It’s easy to talk about all of the good things that happen when we work with clients. Clients that are satisfied with our services refer others to us, and provide great testimonials which help others make the decision to work with us. However, what happens when we have a client that is dissatisfied with our services and becomes unhappy with us?

How should you respond? What should you do? What should you do when they leave you a bad review online? In this Episode of the Empirenista Business Success Podcast we’re going to discuss how to handle unhappy client situations.

What Not to Do

Whenever there is a mistake we can respond in two ways:

  1. We can get in our feelings and lash out
  2. Listen and learn from the unhappy client

I don’t suggest lashing out. That’s not a good look and you don’t know who is watching you. It could be future clients or business partnerships. You lashing out or posting their review and your petty response online (especially on Facebook) could further hurt your brand's reputation.

Ways to learn

I know it’s hard, but after getting over the shock of the message from your unhappy client or reading a bad review, take a moment to reflect. Are the concerns of your client valid? Does the truly reflect your work?

Assess the situation

  • What went wrong from the clients perspective?
  • What went wrong from your perspective and your team's perspective?
  • What were those areas: breakdown in communication, missed deadlines, failure to notify clients, missed emails (by both), lack of communication,
  • Could there have been a solution where both parties were happy?

Going forward:

  • Do you need better systems in place:
    • Communication
    • Email
    • Follow Up
    • Contracts
    • Client expectations
  • Update your SOP’s
  • Communicate with your team the new systems and procedures
  • Clear language on website and sales calls with new clients. This also prevents scope creep and misunderstandings
  • Sticking to your ideal client. Maybe this person wasn’t a good fit

Keep in mind that these are the experiences that customers experienced. Whether true or not. Something happened for them to be unhappy and the goal is to resolve the situation as amblicly as you can.

Of course the goal is to only work with your ideal customer but you may have one or two non-ideal customers creep in. Kindly terminate the relationship and move forward.

You’ve got the best services and give superior services. With these tips you’re now prepared to handle an unhappy client.

Thanks for listening!

I know, you don’t want to hear this but it’s time for a truth moment and keep it real with yourself about your business operations.

What’s the difference between the recorded video and live video?

How do you know which one will be the best one for you to use?

In this episode, I explore the pros and cons of recorded video and live video.

You’ll hear why each one is unique.

Both options build your audience, position you as the go-to person for what you do.

Neither option is for someone who will procrastinate or make excuses about why they can’t do something.

Social media is to get social and visible. It’s a great way for you to build your authority and credibility. Builds know, like, and trust which = investment.

Using social media to get visible is one of the easiest things you can do for your business. When you show up on the platforms that your ideal audience hangs out you’re not wasting your time. You don’t want to be visible on the platforms where they are not hanging out on social media.

Show up means

      • Hang out and observe - Interact - Post/share your own stuff

Social Media is great for:

  • Great for building relationships
  • Networking

Your visibility

  • Your FB biz pages/profiles
  • Other groups
  • Your Group
  • Your Personal Page

Doing it a way that’s not annoying but feels good to you. This doesn't mean hopping from the one “it-girl”. Listen, if you’re not visible, you’re not seen, and if you’re not seen no one can buy from you.

In this episode, I address the lack of diversity in business. This episode has been a long time coming and needed to be addressed especially with the current climate that we are in.

There’s a lack of diversity in business overall. As a Black woman, for me, it feels that there is never a seat at the table for us. We are often overlooked and left out of things. It feels as we are shouting to be included and heard and it always comes across as us being angry or bitter.

In this episode, I give a look into my thoughts as to why I feel the lack of diversity in business needs to change, why others have little to no diversity in their business, and how to include diversity without tokenism.

I hope you listen to this episode with an open mind and heart.

There’s some bad advice going around the online space that small businesses and entrepreneurs shouldn’t be selling at this time. That we should be quiet and not offer our services, courses and programs because people are struggling and that they don’t have any money.

This narrative is completely false. People buy what they need, they see value in and at the moment what entertains them.

In times of Pandemic you want to know what your audience needs and adjust your business accordingly but this does not mean discount nor stop selling.

In this episode I discuss what you can do during times of pandemic and how to sell to your audience.

Pivot.. pivot.. pivot.. Is now the right time to pivot in your business and should you be doing so?

Every guru right now is telling you how you need to pivot in your business. This isn’t bad advice, and for some businesses it is a good idea but for your business it may not be the right thing to do.

In this episode we chat about the hot topic word "pivoting" during this Rona mess and if and when you should pivot.

Just because the gurus are saying that you should pivot doesn't mean that you should.

When you stared your business the first thing you wanted to do was tell everyone on social media. You tell your friends and family to “Like Our Page” or to “Follow us”. You shout from the rooftops about your business on social media because you’re so excited. You get leads, you get clients and then all of the sudden Facebook and Instagram start acting weird. You can’t refresh your page, your posts are showing and you keep seeing the same posts. You text your friends and you find out Both IG and FB are down. That’s when the dread sets in that you’re about to miss sales because your WHOLE entire business marketing is on social media and your potential clients don’t know how to reach other than your DM’s. Does this sound familiar? Facebook and Instagram went down twice in 2019 and for some business owners that meant their whole entire business went down. So this episode is all about how banking on social media can and will hinder your business more than help it. Just think, If Mark Zuckerberg decides to say no more and these platforms were to go away what would you do? Some of yall would be SOL with no paddle because your entire business is only on social media. In this episode I’ll discuss: * Why it’s dangerous to only use social media to market your business * Ways to make sure you have a consistent strategy that takes potential clients from social media and to your website or list * How to use social media to establish yourself as the expert in the industry for what you do.

Social media is an assistant to your marketing strategy. Just don’t bank your whole business on it Thanks for listening! Over the last 14 days, it hasn’t been business as usual for many of us who work at home with kids. Some of us haven’t worked at home with kids for a while because they’ve been going for day. Now we’ve had this unexpected interruption.

My kids have been out of school for a week and if you're like me and you have never home schooled or home educated you find yourself in the midst of juggling all of the household, business role, mom and now teacher roles into one. Times are uncertain, however how you run your business shouldn't be. In today’s podcast episode I’m sharing how to work at home with kids during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

This is my Summertime modified schedule that has worked for me over the last 11 years as a business owner.

Establish a Routine

Every morning I try and stick to a morning routine. In fact, my kids have several routines that I repeat daily (several times a day Morning, afterschool and night time). We have a Kids thrive and do best with routines. At school they have daily routines. In our house we have a morning routine so we can get out of the door on time and I can start my day with the baby and my clients. Kids have routines at school whether they stay in one class with one teacher all day or they go from class to class like my middle schooler.

Put a Schedule In place

Schedules keep me on track. I know what I’m doing and when I’m doing them. My schedule isn’t the same every day due to appointments, modified schools days and client work. But now since the COVID-19 is here I’ve had to adjust my schedule accordingly. A schedule will keep you sane during this unexpected interruption in your daily schedule.

This image is a sample of my schedule I created.

Take Breaks

Breaks are so important. When you feel yourself getting frustrated or needing an energy boost, a break will help with that. Breaks give you a reboot.

Take a walk and enjoy the outdoors if the weather is nice (practice social distancing of course). Read a book for fun, give your kids some quiet down time or take a power nap.

Have a dedicated work space.

Give yourself and your kids a dedicated space to work and do art projects. This way, you won’t have a lot of clutter everywhere. The kids will know where to do their school work. No more crayons, playdoh, glitter and worksheets + your work all over the place. We use our dining room table where my kids do their school work.

Give yourself grace

The Coronavirus is something that we haven’t deal with in at least the last 50 years. No one expected to deal with this. So of course, to keep us all healthy and to quickly flatten the curve we have to social distance. When the kids are bouncing off the walls and you’re trying to get work done, remember, so many moms and parents that work from home are in the same boat.

I hope these tips on the podcast and this brief run down will help you as we all try to work at home with kids and navigate our way through the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).

Head on over to my community The Empirenista Business Incubator and let’s continue this conversation and chat about how we’re working at home with kids .

2020 is here and I’m excited to see the growth I’ll have this year. Before I plan, launch or create new programs, I like to do an audit review of the previous year so that I make sure I don’t repeat the same mistakes or have the same problems I had the year before.

In 2019 I had life-changing events that took place and because of the events I had to reevaluate my business, what I wanted from it and how I can operate at the fullest potential that I can as a Powerhouse CEO.

In this episode I’m sharing:

  • When to know what’s not working and what is working within your business model
  • Why it’s important to give yourself GRACE
  • Why you cannot solely rely on social media to grow your business
  • How I will tackle being consistent in 2020

Each year I do a review and 2019 was full of lessons that I’ll remember. By sharing my lessons I hope you can take something from it.

Let’s continue this conversation in my free private community the Empirenista Business Incubator Community on Facebook. What lessons did you learn in 2019? Were they life long lessons or lessons you learned in that moment?

Over the years the one thing that has remained constant in my business and in the businesses of my clients is our level of visibility.

When I first started my medical billing company business in 2009, I didn’t know the first thing about marketing. I did know that I needed to be in front of my target audience daily. I googled “how to market your business” every day for 3 months. I found some good stuff and some terrible advice, but the constant advice was that you need to be seen by your audience.

So I made getting seen my mission. Since 2009 the online that I’ve done is be visible in front of my target audience so I can remain top of mind for when It's time to purchase they buy from me.

Listen, Visibility is Marketing. It’s the key to everything that you’re doing with your marketing.

Visibility builds, nurtures and grows your Like, Know and Trust factor. People do not buy from those that they do not know. So, in order for your people to buy they got to see you, like your message, know what you do, who you serve and trust that you solve their immediate problems.

Visibility does all of this.

In this episode, I share how you can jumpstart your visibility to grow your business. I share what visibility is and what it isn’t. It’s easy to get burned out from doing too much to be visible so I also give tips around that as well.

Thanks for listening! Don’t forget to share this episode with a biz friend who is looking to get more visible.

Did you know that the grind, the hustle, the marketing, the sales, all the things in your business can lead to burnout really quickly? Getting burned out is the last thing you want to happen. Take a listen and find out the steps you can take to avoid burnout.

Visit http://www.aliciahenderson.biz/podcast/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • Experiencing burnout
  • How to recognize the signs that you’re about to be burnt out
  • How to avoid burnout

Key Takeaways:

  • The signs of burnout:

  • There is no joy in what you do.

  • Procrastinating.
  • Dreading working with clients.

  • If you’re a leader and a CEO and you have a team, you can’t expect people to read your mind. We’re not doing this by osmosis and your team is not telepathic.

  • If you don’t have joy with working with your clients, you have the wrong the clients or you are in the wrong profession.
  • Fitness and exercise help to take our minds off what we are focused on or worried about, and it takes us to another place.

Action Steps:

  • As soon as you recognize the signs of burnout, steer yourself away from it.
  • If you want people to do something right for you, break it down in steps.
  • Avoid burnout:

  • Take a look at your schedule. Make sure you’re not cramming too many things in one day and that you have enough downtime. Schedule a CEO day at least once a month.

  • Set boundaries in your business. Let your clients know what they can expect from working with you and set your working hours. Tell them who they can contact in case of an emergency. And set boundaries with your family as well.
  • Exercise. Take walks and get some sun. Figure out the best time of day for you to exercise. And make sure to healthfully fuel your body.
  • Take breaks. Go on vacation or have a staycation. Disconnect from your business for a couple of days or a week or two (or maybe even longer, if you can).
  • Get your rest. Pick a good bedtime. Take a nap during the day. Have some downtime during the day just to Zen out.
  • Take up a hobby.
  • Create family time and make it a priority. Have time for creating memories with your family. Be available to help your kids with their homework. Go on a date with your spouse.

Alicia says:

“Create a business that allows you to have the freedom to do what you want, when you want, and not have any restrictions on it.

“If you want to have a business that has longevity, you have to realize that [burnout] happens. You also have to accept and acknowledge it, and then don’t carry the guilt… and then you move forward.”

Thanks for listening!

Happy 2019 Empirenistas! Are you ready to plan for a successful year? I am super excited for all that we have in store this year and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! It’s definitely going to be an amazing year for all of us

Visit http://www.aliciahenderson.biz/podcast/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • Speaking things into existence and putting in the work to make things happen
  • Tips to have a year of success
  • My personal and business goals for 2019

Key Takeaways:

  • Planning is very strategic, and it’s fun. When you plan, you already foresee the results that are going to take place, and you have more chances of getting better results.
  • When you know the things that worked for you in the past, then as far as strategies for your business are concerned, you know what to continue.
  • When you have no strategy in place, you don’t get the results that you want. The things that worked for you in the past should become a part of your strategy.
  • You should not feel wiped out when you’re done doing something. You should be excited, you should be ecstatic, and you should be anticipating good results.

Action Steps:

  • Make sure that you take some time to plan and be prepared for the year. Plan for things that you know you’re going to love for your business and for your clients.
  • Tips for planning:

  • Review the previous year and take note of the things that worked and the things that didn’t. And then try to see what you can improve upon.

  • Identify your goals. Start with a big vision for the whole 12 months.
  • Set your goals. Take a look at the whole year and see where you can place them while keeping things realistic.
  • Identify time wasters. Take a look at what projects you have in mind and ask yourself: Is this something that I really need to be doing or is it just a distraction so that I can’t get ready to go? How will this help me grow, and how will it help me make money? Could this be passed on to a team member or outsourced for someone else to do outside of my company?
  • Adjust and leave room to move things around. Don’t be so rigid with your schedule. Not everything has to be concrete but it does have to come out.
  • Scale back and focus on the projects that will give you the results versus the many projects that won’t get done.

Alicia says:

“I believe in speaking things into existence and I believe in walking in faith. And that means, you don’t see the things that you want to take place, you know that they’re going to happen, and you’re going to put the work in to do so.”

“Let’s be an overcomer and an actual winner… When we set ourselves for failure with these unrealistic things, we are not winners when we do it. Be real with yourself.”

Thanks for listening!

How do you feel about back-to-school time? I don’t know about you, but I love it! However, it can also be stressful. If you’re a mompreneur like me, the back-to-school grind can indeed take a toll on your business. Find out how can you conquer back-to-school time for both your family and your business.

Visit http://www.aliciahenderson.biz/podcast/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • How back-to-school time can affect your business
  • How to conquer back-to-school time
  • Tips on planning ahead
  • How I work my schedule

Key Takeaways:

  • The things that you should prioritize and be strategic about are your client work, client calls, your self-care, your scheduling, the cleaning, doctors appointments, what you want to do for your leisure, and your cooking.
  • Self-care is so important as an entrepreneur. Don’t put yourself last all the time.
  • When you’re able to plan ahead, you know where things are going. You know what you’re doing and when you should be doing it. That way, you can be more productive with your time.
  • Your schedule is what will really help you to have a good school year and a good transition.
  • When you’re burned out, other people pick up on that vibe and your business does not grow. You can’t handle any more clients when you’re burned out.

Action Steps:

  • Prioritize and strategize. It’s all about being strategic with your time and figuring out what needs to take place first in your business.
  • Get your kids involved. Teach them basic life skills and get them involved in doing chores at home.
  • Plan just about anything ahead of time, including meals, doctors’ appointments, and even clients’ schedules.
  • For planning meals ahead of time, write the menu on the chalkboard if you have a chalkboard, create a recipe book if you need to, and get your grocery shopping done ahead of time.
  • Look at what activities your children are going to be doing throughout the year and see if you may need to scale it down so you don’t get burned out. Prioritize the activities that they really love.
  • Enlist outside help when you need to.
  • Share your calendar with your spouse and get the people who are involved with helping you in sync with what you’re doing.
  • Plan out your days. You don’t have to be rigid about your schedule but make sure you know what you’re doing and when you’re supposed to be doing it. And schedule out a CEO day.
  • Have routines in place for your kids.

Alicia says:

“I think business does require sacrifice but I think it needs to be within your limits, within reason… Bring on that help because transitioning for back-to-school or any transitioning in your business requires that you makes some sacrifice and that you spend some time.”

“Everybody has a goal to play in your life, in your family. They are helping your business out when they are taking care of what they need to take care of.”

Have you ever found yourself wondering how to keep your business on track to generate more conversions? In this episode, learn how to manage your business by staying in your lane to impact the long-term growth of your business. Join me as I talk about how to be successful as an online entrepreneur by being an authority in your industry.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • Why it’s essential to stay in your lane.
  • How staying in your lane makes you productive and successful in your business.
  • How to be an authority in your industry.
  • Why you should not compare yourself to your competitors.

Key Takeaways:

  • If you stay in your lane, you can focus on growing your business. You are more confident as you produce valuable content, and you are not swayed even if others are offering the same services as yours.
  • You can’t be productive if you’re on social media. Social media is a rabbit hole that loses you to different pages until it takes your time away from you.
  • Staying in your lane makes you unaware of your competition. Hence, it will not direct you to a comparison game, leading you to negative self-talk that takes productivity away from you.
  • Having more content establishes your authority in your industry. Doing that helps you produce monetary gain as people regard you as an expert, buy from you and recommend you to their colleagues as well.

Action Steps:

  • Have clarity on what your goals are in your business. Set solid boundaries on what you want in your business. Align what you spend time on with your goals.
  • Spend no time on things that don’t have anything to do with your business.
  • Don’t use social media when you are getting work done. If your work has to do with social media, schedule it.
  • Don’t compare your work with your competitors. Focus on your own brand and on providing value to your audience.
  • Unsubscribe from mailing lists and unfollow people that has nothing to do with your business.

Alicia says:

“Staying in your lane makes you confident and productive. You are not swayed to the left or to the right, you are sure of what you’re doing, and you can launch your business with success.”

“Content is king, and visibility is queen.”

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is now in effect, but what is it exactly? What does it mean to be GDPR compliant? Business and intellectual property attorney, Deneen Warmington joins us to give legal education and explain all about the GDPR and what we can do to make sure that we are GDPR compliant.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • What is the GDPR?
  • How is the GDPR going to affect your business?
  • Who needs to comply with the GDPR and who does it apply to?
  • What can we do for our websites to be GDP compliant?
  • What can we do with the people that are already on our list?
  • What can you do with the people, who are currently on your list, who fail to respond when asked for their consent?
  • Is there a need for a privacy policy on your website?

Key Takeaways:

  • The GDPR is the new European Union privacy data law. It wants to make sure that any data that you give if you’re in the European Union, is protected.
  • Even though you may not know how the GDPR is going to be enforced, it’s better to deal with it now before you’re in crisis mode.
  • The GDPR doesn’t just apply to data coming from EU residents. It applies to anyone sitting in the EU, whether they are residents or non-residents, that transfer their personal, identifiable data to your website.
  • “Personal identifiable data” means anything that can identify you as the person, including your IP address.
  • The penalty for non-compliance can go up to €20 million or 4% of your gross annual worldwide income, whichever one is greater. And not just the European Union can come after you, but the individual person can come after you for mishandling their personal data.
  • With the GDPR in place, you can no longer have an unsecured website.

Action Steps:

  • Get the user’s affirmative consent to include them on your list or when they sign up for an opt-in.
  • Make sure everyone in your existing list also gives their consent.
  • Have an updated privacy policy on your website that includes the GDPR.
  • Get permission from your users if you have cookies on your website.
  • Do your own research on the GDPR and speak to a privacy data attorney if you need to.

Deneen said:

“It really is up to you whether or not you want to comply, and it actually goes down to your level of risk.”

“Your personal data has to be protected.”
