In episode 93 of Club Management, we explore Vol. 10, a dynamic multi-genre club night in Seattle founded by DJ and nightlife organizer Arel. Arel began his journey in nightlife with his House Party Sea event in 2015. It slowly transformed from a Monday night party into an influential online mix series and a hub for innovative music. The series featured prominent acts like New York's OSSX and LA producer Avi Loud.
Now, with Vol.10, Arel continues his mission of musical exploration, offering a diverse array of sounds from Techno and Club to House. Held every first Saturday at the Timbre Room, the event has quickly become a staple since its 2023 debut, featuring performances by Memphis techno and juke artist Qemist, along with local talents DJ Wifi and Manwell.
In this episode, Arel discusses his dedication to community building, his DIY approach to event curation, his military background, and his vision for the future of Vol.10.

Episode 85 of Club Management has arrived and this week, we invite NYC-based DJs and event organizers Lovie (Lindsay Summers) and Honey Bun (Sam Taylor) to the show. Individually, Lovie and Honey Bun have been shaking up the NYC dance scene with their fun sets filled with disco, house, Y2K-era bangers, and whatever else they can manage to sneak into their impeccable record bags.
Together, the duo throws Soul Connection, a recurring party that encourages dancers to connect with their minds, souls, and bodies on the dance floor.
Shannon spoke to the DJs about their entryway into the NYC dance scene and their backgrounds growing up in Texas and Washington D.C. They also spoke about their fun individual projects, their banging Boiler Room sets in 2023, and how their amazing party Soul Connection came to be.

Run by DJ Lani and Adi Dahiya, who DJs as Taal, Facility is a hub dedicated to supporting the health and wellness of the dance music community in New York. For episode 82, we dive into the vibrant world of a self-taught producer and DJ, @nextdimensional.
In 2018, nextdimensional packed her bags and made the move from Minneapolis to the bustling streets of Brooklyn. Since then, she's been a force to be reckoned with in the New York City music scene. Independently releasing music and curating her own event series, Lucid Dream, nextdimensional has ignited the decks at hotspots like Mi Sabor Cafe and Mood Ring. She’s also taken her energetic sets abroad to Tokyo.
Nextdimensional is the co-founder of Lucid Radio which she runs alongside Dev Moore out of their shared studio in Ridgewood. The fun radio series showcases emerging talent in the underground dance music scene here in New York and abroad.
Nextdimensional's production is unmatched. She combines ethereal and wavy soundscapes with pulsing hypnotic rhythms. With a penchant for variety, her original works traverse the realms of breaks, techno, and East Coast-inspired club music. It's a sonic adventure that keeps her audience on their toes and her new EP "Mazeworld" perfectly embodies the spirit of her dreamlike electronic production.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Niyah West loves experimenting on the dance floor and keeps the party activated with her fun, all-vinyl sets – and no stone is left unturned with her dynamic range.
If you listen closely, Niyah loves giving dancers and listeners a history lesson with her unique mixing. One minute she’ll have you transporting back to the iconic Club Zanzibar, touching corners of Gospel House, big-band Disco native to the legendary Newark hot spot in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Before you know it, you’re zooming over to Detroit and Chicago, shuffling and twisting your hips to Soulful House, Tribal grooves or classics from some of the greats like Dee Dee Brave, Robert Hood and the Late great Paul Johnson.
Niyah has been busy. Last year, she did a Euro/UK tour and a phenomenal vinyl set for My Analog Journal, a popular YouTube series where DJs are given free rein to explore rare grooves and forgotten gems with their vinyl selection. Something tells us Miss West has a lot more in store for us this year.

For episode 79, Shannon is reliving the magic of her first Europe/UK tour. The DJ and podcaster reflects on her busy Euro/UK tour run, with stops in Berlin, London and Vienna. Shannon also talks to her good friend Kira Ibanez, who helped her to organize her latest tour and who is the mastermind behind the booming NYC collective, XOXA.
Founded in 2017, XOXA is a collective and party that provides a supportive platform for women and LGBTQ+ artists to perform while creating an intentional party space for everyone. Kira spoke about the inception of the collective, her plans for the future and why it's important to create space for women and LGBTQ+ artists in the music scene.
She also walked Shannon through how she helped to set up her UK/Euro tour run.

We’re kicking off the season on a high note with Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin — the founders of @Nowadaysnyc.
In this episode, Shannon spoke with the duo about the long road toward opening their iconic club based in Ridgewood, Queens and the parties and songs that inspired and informed their musical journeys.
Justin and Eamon also gave Shannon a history lesson on the formation of their long-running party series, Mister Sunday and @MisterSaturdayNight and their exciting plans for Nowadays programming in 2024, such as Nonstop, the club’s 24-hour monthly party that will run every weekend beginning in January.

If you’re on Instagram, you may see Elijah posting his world-famous yellow squares. Vanessa has been booked and busy, tearing down events with Boiler Room, Fabric London and Beyond Fest in recent months. As she continues to perfect her craft, Vanessa understands when it's time to hit the reset button and focus on her mental health. Taylor has been helping people in her community to heal through the power of music and psychedelics for years. And it was her passion for raving that helped her steer down a path of clarity, understanding and inner healing after years of family strife, trauma and life's inevitable downs.

For Episode 72, Shannon sits down with one of the forefathers of Philly Club Music. Meet DJ Sega. The producer and phenomenal DJ has been blaring down sound systems around the world for more than a decade with his hard-hitting high energy club anthems and edits. And he’s truly a student of the game.
Sega’s passion for producing and Djing came at a rough time period in his life. After the death of his grandmother, the Philly native locked into production as a way to process and mourn her loss . But after a few short years of toiling away his musical production software, Sega created something special.
Combining the fundamental roots of Baltimore Club and Jersey Club's rhythmic flare, Sega was one of the first producers to craft the Philly Club sound, a fast and energetic genre that rests at 140 BPM, sometimes soaring to 155 BPM.
Laden with samples of rock, hip-hop and everything else in between, Sega’s infectious beats have had crowds rocking around all the world and now, the producer has been building up a steady following with his weekly DJ Twitch streams and helpful content on producing, streaming and other music related topics.

For episode 69, we finish up the last installment of the "Mommas in Music" series, which also happens to be our final episode of 2022. Episode 61 has arrived and we are jumping into the last episode for the How To Handle Music Business series. For the last episode, we invite none other than the fierce blend Queen DJ Noir to the show. She’s the co-founder of @JukeBounceWerk, an international collective of producers and DJs, who have laid the groundwork in expanding the Chicago Juke and Footwork sound in Los Angeles and across the globe.
DJ Noir has been working in music and nightlife since the early 90s, priming her impeccable DJ chops in LA’s drum and bass scene. Now, she continues to pour her energy, wisdom and care into her community with JBW. She’s a mama bear and a mentor, continually encouraging her crew and those hungry to excel in the music world to perfect their skills. She does it all while churning out heavy-hitting mixes, touring and releasing her own production under the moniker Phyliss Jaxson.
Outside of music, Noir has used her platform to speak out against some of the social injustices Black artists often face in the industry. In 2020, the star penned an essay in DJ Mag that explored how language can be used to appropriate and erase Black artists with the rise of the 160 movement.
Shannon spoke to the music titan about Juke Bounce Werk’s early beginnings, what it takes to make it in the industry and what artists should do to build meaningful relationships. Noir also spoke about some of the backlash she received from her DJ Mag article and why it was important to address the glaring elephant in the room.

The 2nd episode of the "How To Handle Music Business" series has arrived and this time super producer, DJ and event organizer Jadalareign joins the show. She’s negotiated some big music deals in all corners of the industry from DJing internationally to booking incredible talent at her dynamic parties.
The phenomenal Brooklyn-based DJ and producer has been shaking up dance floors since 2016 with her eclectic sound centered on Black underground dance and if you’ve never had a chance to witness Jada in action you're in for a treat. The New York native can seamlessly weave between records and CDJS taking party-goers on a journey with her carefully crafted sets that span between vocal house, rare grooves and jackin' dance anthems.
But Jada’s ability to create harmony and unity on the dance floor can also be seen in her community activism. Jadalareign created her popular Skillshare series as a safe place for DJs of marginalized identities to cultivate their DJ skills and learn strategies on how to scale their passion for music into a full-time career.
In 2020, Jada co-produced a virtual production camp called In Session alongside her teammates FIVEBOI and Sam Law that attracted participants from across the globe looking to learn the ins and outs of production.
Now, as a talent booker at the legendary NOWADAYS, Jada continues to extend her passion for cultivating community with her incredible residency and programming. She had a lot to share in terms of negotiating pay, creating contracts and ways we can continue to center diversity on the dance floor.

Founded by east London DJ and Percolate resident Niks in 2020, Black Artist Database, or B.A.D for short, is a crowd-sourced database platform created as a direct response to the global pandemic and as a way to challenge the inequality that Black artists often face in the music industry.
You can hop on the B.A.D website right now and search through thousands of Black-owned labels, artists, and producers and support them directly. The site also provides users with a chance to connect with bustling creative communities of Black artists around the globe. B.A.D’s community ethos extends to their monthly workshops and forums dedicated to cultivating and fostering Black talent, from production-focused workshops to skill share sessions.
Now, the team has come up with exciting developments happening in the world of web3 and they're looking to help Black artists use the emerging technology as a way to build equity, ownership, and community.

Crypto and the world of Web3 are slowly proving to be alternative forms for artists, content creators, and musicians to build meaningful communities and maintain ownership of their work without the hands of pesky gate-keeping platforms stealing a cut of their hard-earned profit.
Changemakers like Austin of Currents FM are leading the way in building a more equitable future for artists. For the first episode of 2022, DJ Shannon invites Dance Mania alum, Jana Rush.
Jana Rush’s hefty catalog extends back to the label’s heyday. She was dubbed “The Youngest Female DJ” under Dance Mania after she made an appearance on 1996’s “The Armageddon”-- a split collaborative EP With DJ Deeon.
With the mentorship of some of the greats like Chicago’s juke king Gant-Man and the late great Paul Johnson, Jana’s production style slowly morphed, incorporating a bevy of different sounds from footwork and juke to techno. The best thing about the Chicago native is that she works at her own pace, there’s no rush to create and the time and care she puts into her craft is evident, especially on her last LP "Painful Enlightenment," a project that takes you on an intense roller coaster filled with different chaotic samples, sporadic percussion, and vocal samples.
Jana reminisced about her early beginnings cooking up tracks with Paul Johnson, why she takes her time with producing, some of the challenges she faced coming up in the industry, and what she plans for 2022!

Mitchell who has recorded under a number of different monikers from Victor Romeo, The Dance Kings, and the Parris Mitchell Project continuously adapted and shaped his prototypical sound throughout the label’s existence. From Hip House, Vocal House, and even his more stripped-down drum machine experiments, Mitchell kept fans peeled to the dance floor waiting for more.
With the help of Ray Barney, Parris released a number of influential EPs like 1994’s Life In The Underground and 1995’s Project.

For episode 40, Shannon had the pleasure of chatting with Moroccan producer and artist Selwa Abd who creates music under the moniker Bergsonist. The multihyphenate transcends between multiple mediums of art and design to discover what makes us human. Last year, Bergsonist captivated listeners with the release of her full-length project Middle Quest on Optimo Records. The project serves as a sonic autobiography of her identity and a body of work that captures her genre-less spirit.
When she’s not producing, Bergsonist is busy tending to some of her other community-based projects like her Pick Up The Flow initiative--an online resource that promotes opportunities available to artists and creatives looking for income, grants, or scholarships. She also runs a music blog called BizaarBazaar. Bergsonist and Shannon chat about everything from bad Keto diets to grief. The busy producer also shares more on how Pick Up The Flow has been helping artists in need during the pandemic.

The Bronx native and producer is blowing up in the Electronic dance music scene for his sound that’s rooted in Chicago’s seismic and kinetic vibration of Footwork. But we’d be remiss to label Kush as just a Footwork artist. As a member of the Juke Bounce Werk collective, Kush’s music shapeshifts every project, drawing elements of Jungle, House, and Acid, all while keeping your feet moving.
Kush is on a mission. Since 2018, the seminal producer has been churning out his genre traversing Strictly 4 My CDJZ series that showcases exactly what he’s all about, and with 12 down so far, we’re in for a ride because he plans on dropping 40 altogether.
However, even with his music skyrocketing to new heights, Kush remains humble, often seen as a voice of reason within the dance music community for voicing his opinions on the systemic barriers still in place for many artists of color in the industry.

For episode 36, Shannon chats with one of the founders of NYC-based collective and talent agency Discwoman --Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson. She’s an incredible event organizer and promoter as well as a prominent voice and activist for diversity and representation within nightlife.
Hutchinson has planned and curated a number of shows all while giving space and opportunities to marginalized artists who are often overlooked in the industry.
With Frankie at the helm, Discwoman has showcased and represented a loaded roster filled with female producers, artists and, DJs. The label started in 2014 and has grown to produce and curate over 20 events in different cities across the globe.
In 2019, Hutchinson began to work on another passion dear to her heart and community work. The techno evangelist created Dweller, a 6-day festival celebrating Black artists from all walks of Electronic music. The festival also served as a way to pay homage to today’s artists pushing forward Electronic Music’s undeniable influence and inception within Black culture.
Frankie joined Shannon on the pod to chat about why Black lineups and inclusivity within the industry matter, her plans on growing Dweller, and what changes she would like to see in nightlife when the rave returns.

It saw a ton of milestones throughout its existence, releasing everything from Classic House, Trax, and Hip House, but the label hit a sweet spot when the dawn of Ghetto House emerged in 1994. Dance Mania cultivated the careers of some of the most influential producers and DJ's in House music history like the incredible DJ DEEON, Waxmaster, Eric Martin, DJ Funk, Traxman, and Parris Mitchell.Ray has been in the music business for a long time too. His father founded a distribution business called Barney’s One Stop Records in the early ’60s. You might know her as @TYGAPAW, the NYC DJ and producer that’s smashing the societal confines of the patriarchy one beat at a time. She’s a core figure within NYC’s LGBTQ nightlife community as the creator of @FakeAccent, a label and party that is notoriously dedicated to incredible music as well as a home for black, brown and the LGBTQIA+ community to perform and be themselves. Deeply inspired from Dion’s Jamaican roots and her experience living as an immigrant in NYC, Fake Accent gives a platform and home to black, queer and non-binary artists to release music and art. For Dion, Fake Accent was a way for her to create a little taste of home after she left Jamaica in 2002 to attend Parsons in NYC. The move also served as an escape from the painful reminder of Jamaica’s cultural issues with homophobia and misogyny. For Dion, coming to terms and learning to love her own queerness, she found roots in NYC and a space to truly be herself. In this episode, Shannon speaks with TYGAPAW about her musical journey, how to empower yourself through identity and the state of unrest currently with violence and police brutality. In episode 21, Shannon begins to bring her experiences with the nightlife and music community back home to NYC. With the pandemic causing a major disruption to nightlife venues and cultural spaces, Shannon has a chat with a few members of the community who are looking to keep the city’s music scene alive. For the first half of the show, we hear from Ric Leichtung and Diana Mora who are spearheading NYC Nightlife United, which is an emergency fund aimed at providing financial relief to venues and cultural spaces that have been deeply devastated by the pandemic. The organization is comprised of various nightlife figures and cultural institutions including Ric and Diana who have both spent years cultivating and creating events and community spaces in NYC. Ric Leichtung is the founder of concert promotion and publication AdHoc and Diana Mora owns Friends and Lovers in Brooklyn. While there has been some relief efforts for businesses and workers through The Cares Act which claims to provide fast and direct economic assistance, the process has been rather slow and complicated. Some people still haven’t even received an ounce of their benefits. How do creatives pay for rent during this time? How do they live? Shannon chats with Phillip Golub, Olympia Kazi and Marc Ribot of The Music Workers Alliance on some of the solutions they have been trying to create and pass down to congress to help DJs and musicians find financial relief and economic justice within the digital music space. Streaming platforms like Spotify and Youtube could be a vital way for musicians to make more income, especially during this time. However with dodgy algorithms and inequities within the way streams are accounted for, artists are having a rough time seeing a fair cut from the music they host on these sites. DeForrest Brown Jr. who produces music under the name Speaker Music, shares his thoughts on the state of the music world. Episode 16 is here! Shannon gives updates on the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic right from the epicenter in New York City. She's still stranded in NYC as the situation grows worse in the states. However, things seem to be returning back to normal in China. In Chengdu in particular, now that the virus has subsided, the nightlife scene is slowly reopening bars and clubs for people eager to hit the town and dance again. For part 2 of episode 14, Shannon chats with Xiamen based DJ and producer @Knophasound, a contributor to the Home Fitness compilation and a budding producer who’s work often drowns in drony ambient melodies. His music feels timeless. Knopha has been using his down time to make more music. In 2018, he released “Nothing Nil” a space odyssey like EP, which she first discovered from Shanghai’s Eating Music label. INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 5:17 China is still battling endlessly to contain the outbreak and it continues to spread rapidly around the world, with cases rising in South Korea, Italy, the UK, and even right here in New York City. more than 2000 people have been put into quarantine. We’re starting to wonder if the US government is equipped to handle the severity of this situation. Luckily, there are a few people who have a solution. For the first half of the episode, Shannon chats with Slowcook. Based in Leeds, England and Beijing, @slowcook is a resident DJ at one of Beijing’s popular underground clubs called “Zhaodai”. She’s also the founder of Equalizer, a party and workshop series dedicated to CIS, non binary and trans women in music. The workshops serve as a safe place for female DJ's to learn skills on how to rock it behind the decks. The collective has bought a slew of talented DJ’s to run their workshops too like Eris Drew & Octo Octa, DJ Moxie and Sherelle. Having been in Beijing since the virus hit, Slowcook has seen firsthand just how much damage the virus has done to the middle kingdom and wanted to take action to help. I spoke to her about how shes been holding up through things and her recent curation in collaboration with her team mates in creating the "Home Fitness" Compilation. INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 4:42In Episode 11, we meet Ellis, also known as Li Hei Shuai( 李黑帅 ), a social media comedian and viral content maker living in Chongqing, China. Ellis has been living in Chongqing since 2013. He has a funny story too! In 2016, he made a video for his friends in China addressing the day to day questions and sometimes rude comments he would get from locals, living as a black man in China. He did this all while speaking standard Mandarin too. After casually posting it online, the video snowballed and spread all around social media, even Time magazine reached out to him for an interview. Now Li Hei Shuai, has become some what of a local celebrity in Chongqing because he can speak Chongqinghua which is the local dialect in the mountain city. Not only has he been creating content from big social media sites like Youtube and China’s Youku and Weibo, but he’s been on a slew of Chinese TV game shows and even movies too. INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 5:48Producer Anti-General, is carving out his own lane within the Dark Trap sub genre. His production is clean, ominous and filled with ghostly decadence. He often borrows and blends sounds from around the world by mixing elements like Arabian flutes, African drums and Traditional Chinese and Japanese instruments into his work. After his appearance on the Chinese reality TV show Rave Now in 2018, things have soared for the young producer, as he’s been traveling around Asia performing and even recently at the legendary Amsterdam Dance Event. Transitioning seamlessly between UK Drum and Bass, Footwerk and even some half time. Daniel has been living in Shenzhen , China for 10 years now and has been heavily involved with growing the cities music culture, first as the music director at Sector, to now running one of the fastest growing party and record labels called Unchained. Unchained celebrates UK Drum and Bass culture. Their monthly parties at Oil Club are crazy, packing out dance floors and bringing key figures in the bass scene from across the pond to China. Acts like Rae Sremmurd, A$AP Rocky and even Lil Yachty have touched down to the streets of Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing. In episode 3, Shannon speaks with producer, Kino Beats who has been coming to China a lot now. The producer has a resume that‘s stacked, making songs for some heavy hitters in the industry like A$AP Rocky, Pharrell, 2 Chainz and even the late great Nipsey Hussle. Even with his star studded catalogue, Kino is so humble and really such a sweet guy. He’s been touring throughout China for the last year with his partners Lex Luger and OG MACO DJing and performing his material.Kino came to CREAM in the summer of 2018 and blessed us with a killer Trap set.
