“Nothing is perfect” is one more cliché that has definitely been told to each one of us. Still, what makes the world nuts—yeah, in a slang(y) way—is that it has been striving for perfection. The conflict of teaching the sense but doing the absolute opposite. Well, welcome to the real world.
Slang Lisp is a podcast that discusses the history, psychology, and behaviors of humans in a slang language that most podcasts try to avoid—but dw, we’re not gonna do that—and mainly with a speaker who has a lisp in both his mother tongue language—Arabic, and in English.
I do apologize to the perfectionists tho. There are many punctuation mistakes, and that’s fine. Welcome to Slang Lisp!
Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body, characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhibited sensory activity, reduced muscle activity and inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles during rapid eye movement sleep, and reduced interactions with surroundings.
Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly.
Yet some don’t use “sleep” for just recharging their tired bodies. Some use it as an escape plan from anxiety, stress, sadness and the list goes on.
"The Sleep Pill" is our episode 4 in season 2, where we discuss how sleep is not just an escape from emotional stress.
Overthinking is when you dwell or worry about the same thought repeatedly. People who overthink can be paralyzed by their worries and may struggle to make decisions or take action. Overthinking can be caused by—and can contribute to—depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders.
While overthinking itself is not a mental illness, it is associated with conditions including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.
It exhausts the brain cells, thus making them incapable of generating creative insights; It decreases self-confidence and fosters self-doubt. An increased tendency to overthink leads to increased self-doubt, reinforcing the overthinking cognitive style.
"Overdo, Overthinking" is our episode 3 in season 2, where we talk about what causes overthinking and how to deal with it.
The feeling of complete hopelessness. The feeling that everything is worthless. The feeling that nothing matters. Despair is described as one of the most hitting feelings to humans.
It is connected to imposter syndrome; for instance, it is triggered by failure, and it lives in our heads, taking every little amount of energy.
"The Despair Club" is our episode 2 in season 2, where we talk about what despair means and how we can get through it.
Burnout is a state of physical and emotional exhaustion. It can occur when you experience long-term stress in your job, or when you have worked in a physically or emotionally draining role for a long time.
It is common and has many reasons. It influences our routines, progress, and way of life in general. Everything seems heavy and exhausting—even the slightest of tasks can seem impossible and all you do is stay in bed regretting wasting all that time but still having no energy to do anything.
"On Fire, Burnt Out" is our episode 1 in season 2, where we discuss why burnout happens, common signs for it, and how to deal with it to get out of its bubble.
Our identity is basically what shapes our being. Our thoughts, actions, way of speech, language, religion, political views, gender, the environment where we are raised…and many more are aspects of what shape someone’s identity.
The major aspect always remains one: culture. Our cultures vary and they are A LOT. Sometimes, because we are used to the one culture we came from, when we rapidly transfer to a place that has many people of different cultures and/or backgrounds, we lose our own. We tend to act as others do, eat the way they do, talk the way they do, and believe stuff others do…even when it was impossible for us to do any of that if we were raised in only one culture.
This act is called: culture shock. It’s common and happens to people who disconnect rapidly from their culture and go somewhere where a lot of cultures exist together.
"Identity Theft" is our episode 5 in season 1, where we discuss how our identity can get affected by diversity with our two guest speakers Yosef Basem and Tasneem Aly, who study in the African Leadership Academy; an academy that has more than students from more than 45 countries.
All of us watch movies, series, or anything that involves cinematic work whether it’s real acting or some animation.
Many researchers suggest that the two unique elements of the cinema experience drove the findings: the focused activity and the shared social focus. These elements have proven long-term benefits on our overall brain function, memory, focus, and productivity. This means, that from a psychological perspective, cinema affects how we think or feel.
"Cinematic Approaches" is our episode 4 in season 1, where we discuss how the cinema world affects us psychologically with our guest speaker Nour El-Deen, who is involved in the cinema production and directing world.
The overused word: T-R-A-U-M-A…Trauma is indeed added to the cliché list. Except that it exists. Trauma is real, and actually, many people experience trauma without noticing.
"Trauma" is our episode 3 in season 1, where we discuss how why trauma happens, what it actually means and feels like, and how to get out of its bubble.
Have you done enough? Like, did you do your best? You sure? Well, did you double-check? I guess you need to. Maybe you did not do your best this time or you did not do enough.
"Adequately Enough" is our episode 2 in season 1, where we discuss why sometimes we feel like we are not doing up to our best and how to overcome that.
Empty. Ever felt empty? It’s the kind of emotion where everything goes into the void and you have no idea what exactly you are experiencing. A sense of, all emotions hitting that you have no idea how to react or what to feel…or the sense of not having any feelings at all so you are some kind of wondering…what’s happening?
The sense that everything is worthless, that you are worthless yourself…this is typically hard to follow because what you are feeling we can say is: NOTHING. You are experiencing absolutely nothing. What is that? What is the meaning of nothing? And does this have a cure?
"The Nothing Theory" is our episode 1 in season 1, where we discuss all of this and much more.
