9/16/21: I’m learning to fall in love with my scarsThey are part of us but not who we areSoft scars, from what can’t ever be undoneOur heart’s scars are healed wounds from when we wonKnowing the war that can go on in one’s soulAnd the demons to be conquered and controlled Rather than feel ashamed, we should feel proud Our scars are speaking of only strength nowWe fought, we won, the war’s over Our hearts became softer, our souls older Leaving a depth beneath what was takenAnd for that, who would ever replace them? No, our scars do not define who we are But sometimes the more scars the more beautiful we are --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lovewaitsforyou/message

Have you ever wondered how our brain processes emotions and memories? In this episode as we explore this powerful therapeutic technique that can help us unlock and heal deep-seated traumas.Brain spotting is a therapeutic technique developed by Dr. David Grand, a renowned psychologist. It is based on the idea that our eyes hold a direct connection to our brain, allowing us to access and process unresolved trauma, negative emotions, and memories.Brain spotting involves directing the client's gaze to a specific spot while they focus on an issue, trauma, or emotion. By maintaining this gaze, we tap into the brain's innate ability to process and release unresolved experiences. It's a non-invasive method that can bring about profound healing and transformation.Brain spotting works by activating the brain's natural self-regulatory mechanisms. When we focus our eyes on a specific spot, it engages the amygdala, the hippocampus, and the prefrontal cortex, which are key regions involved in emotional processing and memory. This stimulation allows for the reintegration and reprocessing of traumatic memories, leading to a reduction in emotional distress.Brain spotting fosters self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth. It is a therapeutic approach that has the potential to unlock deep-seated emotions and provide a safe space for healing.Brainspotting works by focusing on the brain-body connection and the power of eye positions. By identifying specific eye positions that correspond to unresolved trauma or emotional distress, Brainspotting allows individuals to access and release these deeply held experiences. This episode also suggests actively seeking support, sharing one's pain or struggles, and engaging in open and honest communication to find healing and resolution vs healing in silence. By expressing and addressing the sources of pain, one can work towards healing and ultimately find relief from suffering.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lovewaitsforyou/message

What you will learn in this episode:- Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, which views the mind as being composed of different parts, each with its own voice, emotions, and beliefs.- IFS helps individuals understand and heal their inner selves by cultivating self-leadership and developing a relationship with their inner parts.- Common types of parts include the Inner Critic, Exiles (carrying emotional pain or trauma), Protectors (aiming to keep us safe), and Firefighters (attempting to distract or numb us from painful emotions).- The process of healing and integration involves approaching our parts with empathy, understanding their intentions, and transforming their negative beliefs or behaviors.- IFS has been effective in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, leading to increased self-acceptance, emotional regulation, and improved relationships with others.- Understanding and embracing our inner selves is a powerful tool for personal growth and healing.https://resiliencerecoverycoaching.com/understanding-yourself-via-internal-family-systems/ https://ifs-institute.com https://youtu.be/DdZZ7sTX840?si=lCXhJzw6EN0vKi8Y--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lovewaitsforyou/message

Today’s podcast episode is with Special Guest David Vincent: Founder/CEO of the nonprofit Warriors Inc. https://warriorscenter.org/

What you will learn in this episode:

  1. The taller the skyscraper, the deeper the foundation needs to be. Paraphrased from Founder/CEO, David Vincent of the nonprofit, Warrior’s Inc, the deeper the pain from your past, the higher your potential to rise and the greater your potential to impact.
  2. Channeling your pain into an even greater purpose is a powerful aid in your healing and recovery journey.
  3. When you help others heal, you heal too.
  4. From website: The Warrior’s Center was founded on the remarkable life story of our founder, David Vincent. As a child, he suffered tremendous child abuse and pain. Unable to overcome these challenges, David was consumed by violence, drugs and criminal behavior on the streets of Memphis. His first brush with the law was at four years old and he later began breaking into houses at the age of nine. By adulthood he had become a career criminal. By the age of twenty-two, he was wanted in four states. Later, after over thirty arrest and eighteen felony charges, David was in jail awaiting prison. It was there that he experienced the love and mercy of Jesus Christ on a cold jail cell floor while he was crying out to God. After being miraculously released his life finally turned around. Overcoming tremendous adversity to become a “Trophy of God’s Grace”, David dedicated his life to helping others who were battling many of the same challenges that he had faced for so many years. He started bible studies in his neighborhood, worked with troubled youth and began outreaches to the homeless. Later in October of 1999, David began taking homeless men into his home and teamed up with two friends, (Paul Brown & Dustin Prewitt), to start the Warriors Center. Together they felt there was a great need in the Memphis area for a powerful faith-based program that would help restore broken lives. The program was structured to teach men how their lives could be changed by “Seeking God and Helping Others”. This was the same path that helped David to obtain freedom from his horrible past and find redemption by reaching out to others. Compelled by a vision to impact broken lives by addressing hurting people’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs, the Warriors Center has now grown into a phenomenal frontline’s ministry with multiple men’s and women’s recovery programs in the Mid-South.

What you will learn in this episode:

🤍 Psychological or Emotional Homelessness: When you have a house, but not a home.

What I discuss:

💫 In this digital world, it often looks like we have more friends than ever, yet we sometimes feel that there’s not a single person to share our true feelings with.

💫The first step to cure the loneliness is to tell SOMEBODY you trust. This conversation might need to happen with multiple people— until you find the right trustworthy friend to call home.

💫 When we face childhood trauma alone, our brain’s primal functions help us survive. Because of this, we sometimes suppress emotions because suppression = survival.

💫 How can we make authentic expression feel safe? 💫 Stars that open and honest with people and authentic.. It then invites these authentic, open and honest relationships back to you.” -Celia

“We are on this journey together.” -Celia

Recording this episode touched a very old and deep wound, but I did not realize it until the next day when I could barely get out of bed. There was a heaviness in my chest that needed to be released and I didn’t understand why after all these years I was finally feeling this. When I talked to my husband, he said when he listened to this episode it sounded like I still blamed myself. He said it actually really bothered him. I have come to the realization that I did nothing wrong and following this episode, I’ll talk about the realizations that I have had since as well as some of the actions taken based on these realizations. This is a trigger warning to anyone who has ever dealt with what I discuss in this episode. And it was NEVER our fault.

  3. Coping mechanisms we used to successfully survive our traumatic childhoods. If we survived them, we were successful.
  4. In order to move forward, sometimes you have to heal what’s behind you.
