Dr. Blair grew up in Yale, Oklahoma, the son of an insurance salesman and postmaster. Dr. Kerry Thuett
Dr. Kerry Thuett applied her own knowledge of science to improve her own health and permanently lose a lot of weight. She moved from San Fransisco to Lubbock to open her training and nutrition coaching practice, called Fully Fueled Fitness.
Dr. Thuett has an undergrad in Math and Biology from Texas Tech, a master's in Environmental Toxicology from Texas Tech, and a Ph.D. in Neurotoxicology from Texas A&M. In graduate school, she studied the effect of perchlorate on the thyroid gland and the hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis, and then for her Ph.D., the effect of methylmercury on the developing fetal brain. So, as a toxicologist, this was really interesting as you learn all about Anatomy and Physiology. You've got to know Biology, you have to know Chemistry, you have to know Pharmacology. You've got to know Immunology. You have to know every medical and scientific discipline other than Psychology,
In this episode, we discuss:
- The mindset needed to have success in lifestyle change, not dieting
- Why nutritional research is challenging to perform and publish.
- Eating real food.
- The three aspects of moving like a human.
- High rep vs. low rep weight training.
- How and why to conquer fear.

Malysa Stone
In this inspirational episode, Malysa Stone talks about breaking generational patterns of abuse, alcoholism, crime, drug abuse, and migraines. She describes growing up living in a car with a father who abused drugs as well as a foster home. She comes from many, many generations of drugs, addiction, and mental illness within the last few generations of her family. She’s the only one in her family who's never gone to prison or become addicted to drugs.
She has turned the patterns of abuse by helping others and overcoming chronic health issues.
Here are a few highlights:
- She has been living with Migraines since she was a young child and found relief at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic a couple of years ago.
- Growing up homeless and hopeless and deciding at a young age, she was going to be different.
- Discussing how trauma and pain caused syncope episodes. The doctors told her that the reason for it was because she was in so much pain that her body needed to reset. So a syncope episode is when your heart and your brain is out of sync, so it shuts down and boots back up like a computer.
- Malysa had the support of her husband to stop working 13 years ago and focus on her health full-time.
- Is Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis curable? Malysa discusses remission of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis through medical care with Mohammed Bakdash, MD and education about nutrition. A combination of medication and AIP eating plan worked together to bring about healing.
- Is Fibromyalgia curable?
- What is the cost of investing in health vs. doing nothing?
- The treatment for migraines in Lubbock started with imaging using CBCT scan.
- Sometimes, the pain gets worse before it gets better.
- Part of the healing process was starting a non-profit helping others.

Ruth Elder
In this podcast episode, Ruth’s son Andreas Elder takes over as the host to ask his mother some questions about her story; her background, why she is worth listening to, and what she has to offer. He starts off by asking why it’s worth listening to what she has to say.
- Her main reason for doing this podcast is wanting to help people.
- She has herself suffered greatly and found a solution to it. She was practically an invalid her whole life up until age 21, and nobody could find out what was wrong. She kept going to doctors, including chiropractors, and not finding any answers. And then, she finally found something that started a healing process that has continued for 29 years.
- Since 1994 she has seen hundreds and probably thousands of people that have had the same story. They've suffered greatly. It's been complicated; it's been chronic.
- In 1994 Ruth got a job for the Blair Upper Cervical Doctor who took care of her; Dr. R. Weldon Muncy. Her main duty was taking notes and assisting him in the room. It's like the Hamilton song “In The Room Where It Happened”. She was in the room where a lot of healing happened, and a lot of stories were told, and a lot of discussions happened.
- She has seen hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people come in sick, suffering in despair. Then at some point, they are starting to heal, and she heard their stories. She listened to the discussions that they would speak in confidence with their doctor, kind of be a fly on the wall.
- As part of her role as a support worker for top leaders in the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic profession, Ruth has also had opportunities to observe and listen to lots of lectures and conversations between Doctors.
- Ruth tells her story of suffering from sinus infections, pneumonia, bronchitis, low back pain, neck pain, chronic severe headaches, constant neck pain, blurred vision, hives, pain in the shoulder blades and so much more.
- Due to the severity of her injuries, Ruth was told that she had permanent damage and needed lifetime maintenance care. She has been an extremely complicated patient and this has taught her to be a support for other people with chronic, complicated conditions and help her husband Dr. Gordon Elder, to be a better doctor.

Dr. Gordon Elder
- Upper Cervical Chiropractic deals with the brainstem. It is the most basic part of the brainstem is what we call the lizard brain or the most primitive part that deals with staying alive; our breathing, our pulse, blood pressure, and things like that. And the brainstem is affected by the alignment of bones and nerves, and tissues at the very top of our neck, right underneath the head.
- The mouth plays a more intimate and intricate role than I had realized in the health of the upper cervical spine.
- The neck and the jaw affect each other anatomically and neurologically.
- Both neck and jaw issues can cause posture problems that affect the whole body.
- Sometimes the Upper Cervical Chiropractor and the Dentist need to work together for the best results.
- This is at the very forefront right now of treatment, of therapy, of science. Not many people do work that works together with an upper cervical chiropractic specialist and a dentist. Most doctors don't even know how important the relationship between the mouth and the brain stem, and the upper cervical spine is. It is outside the mindset of most Doctors.
- At the Blair Chiropractic Clinic, Craniocervical Junction Specialists the future will be working with Dentists.
- The best resource for this kind of cooperation is Dr. Chris Chapman in Salt Lake City at

Jaime Browning, BS. DC. DCCJPThis episode highlights the significance of research in upper cervical care and emphasizes its positive impact on a person's health. Dr. Jamie Browning discusses the connection between neck alignment and various health issues, such as migraines, TMJ disorders, and IBS. She also discusses using tools like pupillary constriction measurement and thermal imaging to assess patients and track improvements. Dr. Browning emphasizes the need for accessible research resources and collaboration among healthcare professionals to bring hope to patients with complex conditions.
- Dr. Browning’s background is that she played volleyball from seventh grade all the way through college. She is a former Navy reservist, so she had a lot of battle wounds that I had to deal with. Her main symptoms were TMD, IBS, and Migraines.
- When the atlas bone misaligns, it pulls and tugs on the jaw, leading to TMJ issues. Upper cervical chiropractic can correct this alignment and relieve jaw and digestive issues.
- The healing process for migraines takes time, as it involves tissue regeneration and the recalibration of fluid flow in the brain.
- The ultimate goal of chiropractic care, especially upper cervical chiropractic, is to help patients adapt to their environment.
- Discussing the different Upper Cervical Techniques such as NUCCA, Blair, and Knee-Chest. All these techniques are gathered under one umbrella in the ICA Upper Cervical Council.
- As the president of the Upper Cervical Council, Dr. Browning’s call to action for Upper Cervical Chiropractors is to be more involved in research and to pool their resources: time, talents, and treasures.
- The Upper Cervical Council aims to make research sharing more accessible and affordable by providing a bibliography to members.
- Good research validates the things that we know, it shows how reliable our care is. The other thing it does is we get to test parameters and learn even more about what this care does.
- Research also proves the reliability of technology, such as measuring the pressure behind the pupils, using temperature differential measurements for dysautonomia, safe, effective, and reliable use of Cone Beam CT scans, and much more.
- The ultimate goal of chiropractic care, especially upper cervical chiropractic, is to help patients adapt to their environment.
- Most of the world does not have Upper Cervical available, but due to good research and standards, it is now possible to take it to Europe and eventually other parts of the world.

Cory Roof, the CEO of Ogallala Greens, discusses the advantages of hydroponic growing for lettuce, greens, and other fresh produce. He shares his personal journey in starting a local produce business in Post/Slaton/Lubbock TX. He emphasizes the importance of nutrition and the challenges of obtaining fresh, healthy greens.
- Volunteering at a food bank in Los Angeles opened Cory’s eyes to the importance of good food.
- Cory's hydroponics journey started while working at Plenty, a hydroponics company in San Francisco, before returning to his hometown Slaton in West Texas.
- Hydroponic greens are grown in a water-based system with the root ball attached, offering maximum freshness and longer shelf life.
- The greenhouse temperature is carefully controlled to stay within the ideal range for lettuce growth, typically between 50 to 85 Fahrenheit.
- The amount of nitrogen in the water can increase the heat tolerance of the lettuce plants.
- Ogallala Greens began selling in April 2022 and has faced several setbacks due to a greenhouse structure being knocked down by wind.
- The business is growing and aims to serve not only Lubbock but also expand to Amarillo and Midland and, possibly, the Dallas metroplex.

Dwayne Hoskins, DC.
- Dwayne Hoskins. is a chiropractor. He was born to be a chiropractor,. He has 30 years in practice, and has done a lot of things. Everything he does that I'm passionate about has chiropractic wrapped up in it.
Hear us talk about:
- The nerdiest of the nerdy people. (The Upper Cervical Council.)
- The philosophy of chiropractic and the tenets of chiropractic and its view of how the world works and how the body works, it fit hand in glove with his theology.
- Just like every patient is different, every Doctor is different as well. Some are more touchy-feely while others are more analytical. In the end, they are after achieving the same result.
- Technology can help the Doctor and the patient achieve better results.
- Knowing when and where, and how to adjust is important, but not as important as knowing when not to adjust.
- Temperature measurements have been used for millennia to determine inflammation and other health markers.
- The history of using technology to measure nerve impulses and temperature for clinical use in chiropractic goes back one hundred years.
- Roger Titone, founder of Titronics is one of the all-time top ten influencers in chiropractic without a DC degree.

Stacy Cain
- Stacy has always been very health conscious, taking care of her teeth, wanting to learn about health, wearing sunblock, and going to a chiropractor once per month for maintenance. She is self-professed hypochondriac. WebMD was her best friend and worst enemy.
- The introduction to Upper Cervical Chiropractic and the neck's importance came through a Toastmasters meeting presentation.
- The knowledge of the concepts of Upper Cervical Biomechanics was tucked away as merely an interesting concept until she started having debilitating, crushing headaches day and night along with brain fog and lack of sleep.
- She went to numerous Doctors, and nobody could find anything wrong. She had a CT scan, MRI and saw a neurologist.
- She was diagnosed with Migraines and prescribed heavy medications that she was reluctant to take due to the side effects and addictive qualities.
- Sleeping at night was impossible; again, her doctor's answer was a prescription for heavy drugs she did not want to take.
- Finally, Dr. Stephen Dalton suggested going to an Upper Cervical Chiropractor.
- At Blair Chiropractic Clinic, Stacy had an exam and a Cone Beam CT scan taken of her neck which showed a misalignment at the top of the neck. Dr. Gordon Elder explained all the findings and answered questions before giving a precise adjustment that was so light she didn’t feel it. After a 40 minute nap, the headache was 50%better already.
- This experience set Stacy on a journey to learn even more about health, nutrition the immune system, gut health, and skin care.

- There's a hierarchy of neurology in the body and you can understand that by understanding really catastrophic situations. If you were to injure your big toe catastrophically, it wouldn't be very good for you, but worse would be catastrophically injuring to the same level, your lower back. The center of your life force is the upper neck. There's a continuum of severity there.
- Dr. Sholten wanted to be a Firefighter but decided to become an Upper Cervical Chiropractor after he witnessed how it helped his sister with Cerebral palsy.
- A real reason why he donates so much of my time back to the profession is because the people who came before did stuff that developed the profession to help his family
- Dr. Scholten says:”.10 years ago, I didn't know things that I know now that the people that I didn't help ten years ago maybe I can help today. When you have a passion for this, and you get to see patients, and you get to interact with them, and you get to see how their lives are changed by doing what we're doing with them, it's very inspiring to me to continue to try to do that better tomorrow.”
- There is a situation in the neck. Either it is injured, or it is not injured. When somebody is suffering from a health condition, then it's a good thing to look and make sure if you think you've injured your neck, or even if you don't think, why not just check and make sure that your neck is healthy and okay?
- Dr. Scholten is part of a group of Doctors working tirelessly to expand Upper Cervical Chiropractic worldwide.
- If you are sick or suffering, please recognize that there is a possibility that somebody in the world can help and so don't give up hope. Try to figure it out and know that we're working to try to make sure that there are more people who can help in the world.
- The diplomates and the board-certified diplomates have done just a certain different thing, and there's a level of complexity of a case that we are trying to help manage even for our colleagues that are interested in doing their techniques well which are part of the affiliate organizations:

Sarah Wood, RN
- Sarah Wood is a Registered Nurse and has worked as a Clinical Research Assistant at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and for Dr. Gafford at Lubbock Integrative Medicine
- Sarah’s journey into healthcare started when she was 14 years old and had to offer first aid after an accidental gunshot wound to save the life of her stepmother. At that moment she decided she wanted to do everything to always know what to do to help people and to have the most updated knowledge to give the best care possible.
- Her experience with research started at the Clinical Research Institute at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She was working with some very principal investigators that came up with original ideas based on their clinical practice of how to improve the lives of their patients and how to improve their care. Sarah would help them develop their studies, carry out their studies, and take care of their patients during the studies.
- When her husband went through some health challenges, Sarah sought out a less stressful job and started working with Dr. Gafford, treating patients with Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine.
- As an RN Sarah is a health coach which is a term that is thrown around a lot. This episode discusses what makes a good health coach and how to choose the one that is the best fit for your situation.
- As someone who has worked in both western and eastern medicine and has a well rounded background in what is considered alternative and also traditional medicine, Sarah shares her opinion on why there is often a lack of understanding and cooperation between the different specialties and what to do to break down this divide.
- Sarah gives a plea to researchers to publish their findings regardless of whether it supports their hypothesis or not in the spirit of moving science forward and avoiding to repeat the same mistakes. This is important because it not only improves patient care, but it improves the overall knowledge that your practitioners have out there for taking care of their patients.
- There are different ways to design research studies and Sarah discusses how to design a study in a manner that helps people rather than just pushing profits for the sponsors of the study.
- Sinus issues are something that has plagued Sarah. She found out her sinus infection was really a “pain in the neck”! It is wonderful to have it gone and feel better,

Dr. John Stenberg
- Dr. John Stenberg is an Upper Cervical Chiropractor using the Blair Upper Cervical Technique in private practice at Zenith Upper Cervical Chiropractic in Colorado Springs and the host of the podcast: The Atlas of Chiropractic. Dr. Stenberg is a graduate of Life University in Atlanta
- His motivation for starting a podcast for chiropractic students and practitioners called The Atlas of Chiropractic. He has had so many conversations with mentors and more experienced Doctors and many times wished others could hear and benefit from those conversations. Today’s technology has made it possible to share these conversations that have helped him grow.
- Doctors have different pathways to choosing their are of focus. Dr. Stenberg is a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor because he realized the neck is such a freely movable, but highly sensitive part of the spine that injuries in that region can be really devastating to your health. His journey wasf an intellectual one. As he went through chiropractic college, as folks could understand, there's a lot of different ways to practice chiropractic.
- Dr. Stenberg journey towards chiropractic happened while he was on track to study to be a dentist when a family member’s health took a turn for the worse and their health was restored through Chiropractc care. Dr. Stenberg decided to investigate and found that although he himself didn’t have health problems, chiropractic helped him see clearer and brighter.
- Chiropractic is for the whole family. It is for preventative care and to help with specific health issues.
- Dr. Stenberg’s chiropractic journey has been a series of events where he didn't have a clear end goal in mind but I was open and these little inflection points and opportunities and people would nudge him in the right direction. It's how he likes to live and practice now, without too much tension and pressure, because the best things in chiropractic have come my way with openness and peace.
- Dr. Stenberg discusses challenges and success stories.
- Although it is rewarding to see pain resolve, the real reward is to see people’s lives transformed.
- Regarding podcasts: The good thing about doing interviews is it's not about the host. It's about the guests and creating opportunities for guests to share their message. That benefits the listener but everyone else too. Being the host, you just get to ask your questions .
- Dr. Stenberg treats his patients the way he wants to be treated and uses the complicated cases to motivate him to continue learning and the success stories to share what is possible. He is mindful that although he sees many patients every day, his patients always sees one chiropractor and he wants that to be a good experience.

Debby Blair Clanton
- Debby’s father is Dr. William G. Blair, the founder of the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique. He had a clinic on Avenue Q. He was a very scientific guy and figured out all kinds of stuff, researcher.
- She was very proud of her dad growing up in an age where chiropractors were often considered quacks.Well, her father was very loving. He loved her a lot. In many ways, their personalities were very similar, and their mutual stubbornness often caused them to clash.
- When Dr. Blair was doing all of his research, Debby was his model. She would sit through the seminars and run the tape recorder.
- Her own health journey: Debby was very healthy growing up until after a car accident, she was having trouble walking straight. She was veering from side to side a little bit on the sidewalk. Yes, it was scary. A doctor thought she had a brain tumor. She went through a lot of tests. She was having balance problems, and by the end of the day, she sounded drunk even though she hadn't been drinking. As she got tired, the symptoms became worse and worse.
- Keep listening to hear several fascinating memories Debby is sharing towards the end of the show.

Vicki Rush
- Vicki Rush is married to Dr. Perry Rush, an upper cervical chiropractor specializing in the Blair Technique. For more than 20 years, she worked as her husband’s chiropractic assistant. She ran the office, he did the chiropractic, and it was a good balance. They were living in Spartanburg. Getting to see the miracles in people’s lives firsthand was incredible.
- On their first date, Vicki told Dr. Rush about some health problems she had been experiencing and he taught her all about chiropractic. The next day she saw her medical doctor and told him she had been getting sick a lot with a sore throat and headaches. She had a long list of symptoms. She was diagnosed with a thyroid condition and told to see a specialist. She decided to try Upper Cervical first. She went to Dr. Gary Harbit on Dr. Rush’s advice. After one adjustment, the vertigo was gone, the swelling in her throat was gone, her voice came back, and she no longer had a headache.
- One of Vicki’s favorite stories is about a little girl. Her mother brought her and her twin sister in for care. The twin sister got one adjustment. She was fine, she was happy, she was healthy, but the other girl was completely limp in her mother’s arms. Dr. Rush took some X-rays. When he looked at the pictures, he just said, “Oh my”. He gave her an adjustment, and changes started immediately. They were able to sit her up and talk to her. Within 2 days, she was playing on the playground at school. Later, she fell off of something and went completely limp again. After going to their regular doctor again without any change, they brought her back to Dr. Rush. He adjusted and she could move again. This happened over and over again.
- When Vicki had her first son, he got sick with pneumonia-like symptoms. She didn’t get much sleep the first four months because he couldn’t breathe unless she was holding him up. They took him to Dr. Sherman Lyle, who showed Dr. Rush how to adjust a baby’s neck. After one adjustment, their baby was breathing normally. They all slept that night. The baby never had another problem.
- Another story that Vicki recalls is about one of her own four children, a son who was about ten years old at the time. He had fallen asleep on a chair, and his head tipped off the edge of the chair. Vicki noticed that he had jerked in his sleep, and it didn't look good. She moved over to him, and I shook him a little, "Wake up. Wake up," and he didn't wake up. She realized he was completely stiff and unconscious. She called for her husband. He moved him to the floor and checked him. The position he had fallen asleep in had thrown him out of alignment. Dr. Rush immediately adjusted him, and his whole body relaxed, and he was fine. There were no repercussions.
- Vicki didn’t give up her own dream along the way. She went to college online and became a professional genealogist. Now, she has been tracing family trees for more than 40 years.
- Vicki had this to say about watching chiropractic from the sidelines, “Meeting people in the chiropractic community, you find joy, and you find happiness. When somebody becomes a chiropractor, they get to smile every day and they get to provide miracles for people everyday. Every week there was a new miracle to share with our chiropractic friend across town. Miracles, not just nice stories, but true life-changing events.”

Dr. Perry Rush
In this special interview, you will hear from one of the great pioneers of the Blair Upper Cervical Technique.
- How he decided to be a chiropractor after attending a health lecture, he didn’t really want to attend but thought he needed to. He started chiropractic care with his mentor Dr. R. Weldon Muncy in Lancaster, CA, despite having no symptoms and being a weight training champion.
- What is Straight Chiropractic?
- Dr. Rush graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic during a time when few States allowed graduates from this college to get a license to practice Chiropractic. Due to this, he was not able to practice with Dr. Muncy or Dr. Blair.
- All Dr. Rush wanted was to practice chiropractic and see lots of patients, but Dr. Reggie Gold and Drs recruited him. Betty and Thom Gelardi to teach the Blair Upper Cervical Technique. Dr. Rush agreed and gave up his dream of full-time chiropractic practice.

- Elizabeth Came to work at Blair Chiropractic Clinic despite being terrified of chiropractic her whole life.
- Elizabeth describes her health journey as epileptic and, previously, extremely overweight. She had high blood pressure. There were so many different health issues. She had the ACLs in both knees replaced. A lot of it she didn't realize was going on until she started healing and realized that I was so used to dealing with the pain. Sciatic pain went away after one adjustment to the neck.
- In addition to her own healing journey as a front office administrator, Elizabeth started seeing these people come in for an Upper Cervical Screening for the first time. Their demeanor was poor, and they were in so much pain, and they were very skeptical that anything was going to help, and a lot of times, it's their last resort. It's amazing the transformation because you can tell whenever they start feeling better, they come in, and they're just bright like sunshine and happy and just feeling so much better, and it really is like a total transformation.
- Losing 130 pounds, Elizabeth feels much lighter and more confident. She is feeling good internally. Her body is starting to function better. She attributes her results to a combination of things; somebody is taking care of her spine and other health issues.. At the same time, she is putting out the effort and sticking to her lifestyle changes. This combination is helping with the progress in her health.

- Dr. Margaret Shreve was 11.5 years old in July 1989 -and had no idea why her parents chose to move to Spartanburg, SC from Key West, FL. 15 years later, she was enrolled at ShermanCollege of Chiropractic, 10-15 minutes from her home. . As a child, she didn’t dream of being President, going to space, fighting fires, or teaching school. She wanted to know: “Why do my legs and feet take me wherever my mind wants to go?”
- Not only does she now know how the body functions, she has been given the awesome calling to work with the human body on a daily basis, and, yes, help people walk wherever they want to go. And so much more.
- Her journey as a chiropractic patient began at the age of 14 when she was t; suddenly” unable to transition from sitting to standing, or vice versa, due to excruciating, debilitating pain”. My father would have to get her out of school early and take her to the chiropractor. The first three chiropractors attempted to bring relief by adjusting the area of pain, but the issues only worsened, despite their sincere, best effort. A family friend referred her mother to a fourth Chiropractor. His report of findings included the following life-changing statement;” Your problem is not where your pain is. Your problem is at the top of your neck”.;
- By age 16, her health had been transformed dramatically. She told everyone she met to have a chiropractor for life. She had been given back my life. Now she is not just a chiropractic patient and advocate. She is a chiropractor in her 15th year of practice.
- She is grateful to God for Upper CervicalChiropractic and for the privilege of sharing it with others. It is exhilarating and fulfilling to see other lives impacted in the same way hers was.
- Dr. Margaret Shreve provides principled Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic care for all ages but finds it especially fulfilling to take care of newborns and the elderly.. Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care for newborn babies can change the lives of the child and their families.

Dr. Al Cobb
- Dr. Al Cobb talks about growing up as the youngest of 5 children in Knoxville, Tennessee. His passions were sports and Christian ministry. He played quarterback in College and acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the Virginia Military Institute. After graduating from Virginia Military Institute, he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to be on staff with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Christian Ministry was and still is his passion.
- His career in ministry came to a halt after he had a panic attack, and it spiraled very quickly into depression, anxiety, and what most people will call depersonalization or disassociative type of tendencies. This led to a journey of seeking solutions for healing, including nutrition, counseling and, eventually, chiropractic.
- At Life University in Atlanta, Dr. Cobb decided to learn as many chiropractic techniques as possible and took a lot of seminars, including a Blair Primary Seminar taught by Dr. Gordon Elder of the Blair Chiropractic Clinic. After the seminar, Al Cobb and Watson Fondren started the Blair Club at Life University, which is still growing and thriving.
- Dr. Cobb says: “Essentially everybody is as different on the inside as we are on the outside, and even the left and the right are not the same. This is what Dr. Elder was explaining. Then the brilliant mind that Dr. Blair had to be able to start to figure out how we take that concept and apply it to be as specific as possible. I loved the nature of the technique that, one, I could still use my hands, and two, that I could be gentle and specific. It was very congruent with my values because I don't like to see people for the rest of my life. I don't think that there are different opinions on this, but if I needed to adjust you for the rest of my life, am I doing a good job?
- Dr. Cobb’s advice for starting to heal: You have to accept your brokenness.but realize that help is available, and then tell someone and seek help.
- Dr. Cobb practices the Blair Upper Cervical Technique serving the Communities of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico in Lubbock, TX at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic.

Drs. Barrett:
Andrea Barrett, DC
Derek Barrett, DC
- Husband and wife Doctor Team practicing at Barrett Chiropracticin Wichita, KS, since July 2019, focusing on Upper Cervical Chiropractic. They both have a similar upbringing and background and were individually motivated to pursue chiropractic as a means of helping more people with their health. After looking into several healing professions, chiropractic felt like the right fit. The philosophy and chiropractic and their background as athletes came together to form this path.
- . They wake up together and go to work together. They work together throughout the day. They go to lunch together. They work out together and come home together.
- One of the bigger reasons for focusing on the upper cervical neck is that we don't want to adjust that every visit. We'll do a full examination, postural orthopedic, and neurological exam. Thermography scans are performed on their neck, and we have Cone Beam CT in our office. 3D view of the upper head and neck area just so we can get the best, most precise analysis so that when we are ready to place that first correction, the patient is getting our best based on their anatomy.
- The goal is to make a correction that we want to stabilize and start to hold. If somebody was to come and we do an analysis, and we do different tests, and we decide, "Hey, today we're going to leave this area alone.
- Both Doctors share their joy in treating Ménière Disease. It's a disease that can cause a lot of different things within the body and a lot of stress, but it will cause dizziness, nausea episodes, and brain fog to the extent that they can't even think and get through their day when they're having these episodes. Just very debilitating for them. Vomiting and many other things can come with that too, and usually also a lot of vertigo or tinnitus, which is ringing in the ears.
- Living life to the fullest and getting your life back is really what it's all about. The focus is on the activities of daily living. Of course, it’s a goal to help people get out of that chronic pain or other issues, but at the same time, just getting that day-to-day activity back and being able to live your life and do the things you enjoy is so, so crucial. That’s the main focus at Barrett Chiropractic.
- Drs. Barrett are committed to improving their skill just like an elite athlete would. It takes about 10,000 hours to be an expert in anything.. The more dedicated hours we put into that practice, the better care we can give our patients. The better love and everything else we can implement into their system to help them be the best possible.

- Telehealth offers health coaching for wellness care through serious conditions such as autoimmune issues and cancer care through zoom around the world. In the United States, they can offer direct-to-consumer labs.
- Terrain function means that the process starts with assessing the lay of the land and figuring out an individual approach. They don’t cure illness or cure cancer but rather teach clients to work with the body.
- An important motto is we test, assess, address, and never guess. It's really important to pop the hood, take a look at your engine, and see how it's running. All is based on a belief in sovereign wellness and in sovereign control of your own health and wellbeing, and so our goal is to walk our clients through not only the system that we've put together for them by getting in-depth labs and then coaching them through the plan.
- The Functional Integrative model means all modalities are being considered.
- Informed consent is detailed consent on any therapy or any modality that you're being asked to engage in, or even on any medicine that you're being asked to take. Informed consent means you know what the side effects are, what the outcome may be, how that's going to factor in with all the other things in your life, and then you give them the freedom to choose.

Stacy Schenkel
- Stacy Schenkel has lived in Lubbock since 2008 and met Ruth through the Chamber of Commerce. She works at Refuge Services, a nonprofit organization that does equine therapy with children of all ages and adults with special needs, both physically and emotionally. They also have a veteran program where they do psychotherapy incorporating horses.
- Stacy suffered an injury, an impact at a music festival. A crowd surfer came from behind and dropped on her head. The impact knocked her down to the ground, and she experienced severe pain. After a week, Stacy went to her primary caregiver and was placed in a c-collar and told to wear it for a week and then go back to normal life. She described her pain as a shooting fire up her neck and into her head. The pain occurred randomly but was more consistent when she was running. She modified her lifestyle and gave up running. Stacy began seeing a regular chiropractor, but she believed that the twisting, jerking, and popping couldn’t be good for her. She followed up with the doctor and had x-rays done and was told she had some bulging discs and that she needed to see a neurosurgeon. After seeing the neurosurgeon, Stacy began physical therapy, which she did for 2-3 months. This would relieve the symptoms for very short periods of time. She also tried muscle relaxers and over-the-counter pain relievers but didn’t believe they were good for her long term.
- Stacy talked with Ruth about seeing Dr. Elder. She began the process with a screening to see if she was a candidate for treatment. Once she was adjusted, she stayed in alignment for close to one year. Initially, after her first adjustment, there were follow-up visits just to make sure she was still in alignment. Some symptoms went away right at first. She describes the experience as a totally different concept of chiropractic care. She says the adjustment doesn’t hurt at all. She said the proof that it is effective is that it affected her entire body, from her neck to her ankle. She had an ankle that caused her problems and would swell. It was one of the first things to get better. The shooting pain went away. Stacy uses the words “life-changing” when describing her treatment.
- Stacy has this to say about meeting Ruth, “ I'm so grateful, and I don't think it was accidental that you and I met and that I had the opportunity to be your husband's patient. I think it's incredible. I think God guided us where we were to be at that point and time.” Her advice to others is the sooner you can get your neck fixed, the better. She loves seeing people transform, especially from a less-than-traditional type of therapy.

Gordon Elder DCCJP
- At the time of the recording (September 2022), Dr. Elder ha just finished a three-year program that, because of COVID, ended up being a four-year program. It was a 300-hour program for a post-doctorate degree in health for the brainstem, the craniocervical junction. The title is Diplomate. It’s a DCCJP, Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures.
- The course was divided up into 12-hour weekends that were held in several different cities. They ran all day Saturday and half the day on Sunday, usually once a month for nine months of the year. It’s a post-doctorate degree. A chiropractor can't call themself a specialist in anything unless they have a Diplomate in an approved program. The beginning was a basic deep-dive, then it moved on to remind you what you had learned in school and more. Then on to the limits of research and current research.
- The brainstem is the first thing that starts working at conception, that's the first part that's formed and it's the last part that stops working when you die. It's based at the base of the skull and the top of the neck. You cannot be alive if your brainstem is not functional.
- Dr. Elder likes to work together with other specialists to resolve complicated cases, as opposed to just hoping that what he does eventually works. He says this about the DCCJP community, “ What I've noticed here is when you get people who are super dedicated to advancing, you realize how much you know and how much you don't know. How much somebody else may be-- what knowledge they may have. You don't have the time, background, or expertise to become experts in every field. You're happy to refer out and work together with other specialists and true specialists, not just somebody else who knows a little something. Really work together with other specialists to resolve the complicated cases instead of just hoping that what you do eventually works.”
- Excel Still More. Dr. Elder plans to continue learning and doing some research now that he has time. He says about the Diplomate, “ It's given me the knife and the fork and told me where the food is, and now I can go get the food and start working on it.”

Dr. Michael Lenarz
- Dr. Michael Lenarz has been a Blair Upper Cervical Doctor for about 34 years. He graduated from Sherman College in 1987. It was there that he learned about upper cervical work. The idea is to do the least amount of adjusting to get the most powerful healing.
- Growing up, Dr. Lenarz didn’t hear much about chiropractors. At 25, he injured his shoulder while working in his father’s factory. It wasn't terrible, but it was a fairly painful shoulder. That was what prompted him to go to his very first chiropractic visit. He went to an acquaintance, Dr. Arthur Berman, whose brother and father were also chiropractors. They had all three graduated from Sherman College. Dr. Berman shared with him a little bit about Chiropractic Philosophy, which stated, “There is in the universe an infinite intelligence which creates and sustains life, which creates and sustains the whole universe. That this infinite intelligence actually exists within all living things. This infinite intelligence, if it expresses itself properly without anything interfering with it in the living thing, in the human being, then the result is health.” After hearing that, Dr. Lenarz realized that he needed to be a chiropractor.
- Dr. Lenarz then moved to Washington State with his family. Originally to Seattle, they settled in an agricultural and logging community known as Sedro-Wooley, Washington. His focus throughout the years has been Blair upper cervical care. He began to take care of patients and just saw the miracle that it was supposed to be.
- Dr. Lenarz recalls one case that has stuck with him through the years. It’s a story about a little baby that he took care of named Sarah. He had previously taken care of her mother and grandfather. When Sarah was born, it was a difficult birth, and the umbilical cord was wrapped around Sarah's neck three times. The problem was that every time Sarah tried to nurse or feed, she stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated. They left the hospital and went straight to Sedro-Wooley to see Dr. Lenarz. The whole family came and wanted to be checked! The baby was up first and was now 6 or 7 weeks old. After finding a misalignment in the upper neck and getting x-rays, he adjusted. He took Sarah and her mother to the resting area. After checking the others, he returned to check on Sarah and was shocked to see her mother feeding her.
- Dr. Lenarz recalls a patient with Trigeminal Neuralgia, the suicide disease. After an adjustment, her pain went away within a day. It did come back mildly a couple of times, but after just a couple more adjustments, she had been pain-free for months and was able to go on a trip.
- Dr. Lenarz had this to say, “ I'm just very passionate about this upper cervical work. I really love all chiropractic, and I think that the thing which is most powerful-- In fact, I've never, ever in all these years run across any other healing modality, which is as powerful as upper cervical care.”

Linda Jones
Cereset
- Linda came down with Covid in 2020, and it just seemed like the regular flu . She was almost through her recovery and quarantine when suddenly, she woke up one morning and was experiencing a very deep depression. She felt like she was hearing things. She thought she was having something like Schizophrenia. She did not want to be awake. She called her doctor and told her what was happening. The doctor thought it was a long-hauler symptom of Covid and had been seeing it more and more and immediately put her on anti-depressants. It took a while to tell any difference. She felt a heaviness and felt like her brain just wasn’t functioning properly. She did not want to be on medication forever.
- Linda started researching long-haul Covid symptoms and came across a video by Amy Grant and she was talking about Cereset. Cereset is a non-invasive brain technology that uses your own brain waves converted into sound and sends it back to your brain to help rebalance the brain. In her case, COVID symptoms of depression were causing her brain to be stuck, and she was not able to function. Linda visited their headquarters in Scottsdale, Az, with a friend to experience it for herself. They went through about five sessions, which consisted of sitting relaxed in a chair with sensors on their heads, similar to an EEG. Then while sitting in the chair, they been hearing their own brain waves, and the brain naturally wants to rebalance and reset.
- At first, Linda didn’t feel any different and wondered if it worked, but the very first night, she slept very well, even though she had been dealing with some sleep issues even before the depression. By the end of the 4th week, she realized that she didn’t feel dependent on medication and didn’t feel stuck in her brain anymore. She felt better physically and was able to make decisions easier. The sadness and voices were gone.
- Linda and her friend realized that everyone needed Cereset and decided to open a franchise in Lubbock, Tx, in December of 2021. Cereset is the only neurotechnology that works with a medical university. Linda says, “ Being healthy is a whole-body experience. It's mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. I feel like that is the whole gamut, and where you do what you do with cervical, which also helps the brain, we do what we do to help the brain when it's out of balance to get back into balance, but then you have to do things to keep it that way. I feel like Cereset can offer hope.
- Linda believes in networking with other people to help others. She says,” That's the perfect thing about networking with other people. You just find, "Hey, this person does this, and that's their specialty, and this person does this, and that's theirs." I'm grateful for the Blair Clinic because you helped me with some pain that I was having, and it was a pain in the neck. I think my passion is just helping people. I want to see people healed. I want to see people healthy and whole. If I can help one person, then I've done a great job.”

Kevin Weir
- Kevin Weir is a Business Coach with Action Coach Business Coaching with more than 20 years of experience in coaching. His neighbor, Dr. Hines, was a chiropractor and owned a clinic. Kevin started coaching Dr. Hines, who, in turn, offered Kevin Chiropractic care.. He had his first chiropractic adjustment about one year into business coaching. It felt good to get his neck adjusted, but the technique concerned him because of the twisting and popping. Before the adjustment, he had been having aches and pains but thought it was normal. Those went away after the adjustment.
- After moving to Spokane, he was introduced to Upper Cervical Chiropractic by a doctor that became a client. After his first adjustment with her, Kevin thought it couldn’t have possibly done anything because it was so light, but the normal pain he had between adjustments went away. There was no popping, twisting or pulling.
- As a business coach, Kevin’s job is to take a look at the entirety of the business. There are four areas of mastery in any business.
- There's financial mastery. How well do you understand your own finances in your business?
- Time mastery. How well do you use time?
- Delivery mastery. Are you delivering your services with systematic consistency, or are you brilliant one day and lousy the next?
- Then destination mastery. What is your vision, mission, and culture?
- The three main challenges that every business owner has is what we call time, team, and money. Typically, a business owner may be working way too many hours a week, could be working 50, 60, 70 hours a week, and so they just don't have a life. The business consumes them. There's a great acronym that he loves to use with his client. It's called DGLPA. D stands for dreams. G stands for goals. L stands for learning. P stands for planning, and A is action.
- How Kevin fits into the process: He’s that person who takes a look at the entirety of the business and says, okay, what's going on here? Where are you stuck? Are you stuck because you don't know certain business techniques? Are you stuck because you haven't financially managed the business well? Are you stuck because you have no idea of how to market the business? Are you stuck because you haven't had an overall great strategy? Or are you stuck because you have a mindset issue, you're challenged with your thinking, and you need to figure out how to think better? His job is to make sure that you not only are doing it, but you're doing it correctly, and get you to do it even when it doesn't feel good.
- Kevin says, “Imagine a city where people are continuing to get healthier and healthier and healthier. What does that do for the community? It's amazing what that can do. My passion is that when I'm working and coaching a chiropractic business that grows, that community, by nature, gets healthier.”
- Kevin has this to say about life, “Here's the thing. Everything in life is an investment. Are you investing in your own health? Are you investing in actually treating your health as one of the most important things ever? Part of me being a chiropractic patient for all these years is all about, I've invested in my health, and the returns on investment are incredible.

Dr. Mercedes Cook
- Dr. Mercedes Cook is the owner of Upper Cervical Chiropractic San Diego. They are located in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. She has had an amazing experience personally with upper cervical care. When she was in high school, she was a cheerleader, dancer, and really active. She was dealing with a lot of hip pain and had gotten MRIs, other imaging, done PT, done the traditional things to help with that, and nothing was really helping. Then she started to develop other issues like not being able to sleep well and having anxiety. She wasn’t getting anywhere with western medicine. A couple of her parents' friends suggested that they try a chiropractor, and they had no idea of the differences between general chiropractic and upper cervical specific chiropractic. They found a doctor in their hometown that practiced upper cervical. The doctor explained to them that Mercedes had an issue in her upper neck that was probably causing the hip pain. After her first adjustment, her body felt completely different. She felt more calm and didn’t have the hip pain anymore.
- She couldn’t believe what was happening with such a small adjustment to the C1 in her neck. She was 18 years old and about to go into college at the time, and the doctor she was going to was holding some workshops, so her parents took her and that’s when Mercedes decided she wanted to become an upper cervical chiropractor. In college, they studied all kinds of chiropractic methods, but she didn’t like being adjusted in any other method than upper cervical. So she went into Upper Cervical Chiropractic. At 26, she graduated from chiropractic college and moved back home, and practiced in the same clinic she had received help in. Later, she moved to San Diego and purchased a clinic there. After a while, she decided to go for her DCCJP, which is a diplomate status certification that you have to be certified in an upper cervical technique, not just Blair, which is what she’s certified in. It's several upper cervical techniques.
- A lot of people don't know how everything from your head, your upper neck, the upper cervical area, how that connects to the rest of your spine, it affects your hips, it affects the length of your legs. Sometimes when we have pain somewhere, like when we have hip pain, it does not mean that our hip is the problem. It could be coming from a different area and for so many people, an overlooked area is the neck, mainly because a lot of people don't know how to analyze it specifically or treat it properly.
- In her opinion, it is better to start your children off at a younger age instead of waiting until they're in their thirties and forties, and things have been breaking down for several decades. It's great, but I would take it a step further.
- She sees a lot of patients with Meniere's disease which is, as of right now in the medical community they don't necessarily have a reasoning, but it's kind of this textbook symptom of people experiencing it usually vertigo. It's usually ear fullness. They can have these attacks that they basically- they can't do anything. They have to lie down, it like completely debilitates them, but a lot of the symptoms are in the head, the ears and the eyes. With these patients, what we're finding is that a lot of them have had previous trauma to their neck or they've been in car accidents. We're finding that there is a misalignment at the cranial cervical junction so somewhere between the back of their skull, their atlas, and their axis, there have been shifts or there's been ligament damage, and because of that, they're experiencing these debilitating symptoms. When someone gets a Meniere's diagnosis, she highly recommends getting checked out by an upper cervical chiropractor because what the upper neck can control and what it contributes to the nervous system could be

Chezla Hagood
- A few years ago Chezla was a young mom suffering from really bad neck pain, headaches, and a burning pain between her shoulder blades caused by a bulging disc in her neck. During this same time period, she was diagnosed with Lupus. She struggled with daily activities and caring for her young child. She had gone to the doctor several different times and wasn't getting any relief, and it just kept getting worse. She hadn’t had any specific accident or injury that caused this to happen but was an athlete growing up, so there were multiple sports injuries throughout the years. She had tried muscle relaxers, pain medicines, and eventually physical therapy.
- Chezla’s husband, Brandon, met Ruth Elder through a business referral group. By this time, she had suffered from the pain for 3 or 4 years and had had her second child. She called and set up a screening appointment at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic, where Dr. Elder ran a few tests and determined that he could help her. A few days later, she had her first adjustment and wondered if the doctor had done anything since she could barely feel the adjustment and didn’t feel immediate relief. Within the first week or two, she started noticing small changes. The headaches were subsiding, and the stiffness was improving. Now, four years later, Chezla is feeling great and very seldom has any issues with her neck. In fact, she has only had one neck adjustment in those four years.
- Chezla’s 14-year-old daughter, Kinzie, is now a patient after suffering a concussion at school two years ago after being hit in the head. She had a headache for the first several days that wouldn’t go away. Chezla waited three days to take Kinzie to the doctor, thinking it wasn’t serious because Kinzie hadn’t lost consciousness or anything. Chezla wishes she had known to get Kinzie into upper cervical care when it first happened. Kinzie did have a misalignment. Her recovery since the first adjustment has been more accelerated than Chezla’s, mostly due to her being younger.
- Chezla also started bringing her son, Luke, in to get checked. He had some issues as a baby with his hips popping in and out. He hasn’t had to have any adjustments but loves coming into the office and playing in the kid's area before he gets checked.
- Chezla’s mom had been having all kinds of issues for a while. She actually had fallen and hurt her neck. She's had fibromyalgia pain, all sorts of injuries and pain, so then she started seeing Dr. Elder. Now, she's doing a whole lot better too.
- Chezla now works as a Chiropractic Assistant at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic. She enjoys seeing the changes in people as they heal. She has this advice for other moms in her situation, “I would probably say if you have any kind of problems like I had, a neck pain, back pain, anything like bulging disc like I had, anything to do with the neck that's bothering you, definitely get help sooner rather than later because I didn't know any better. I had been dealing with it for years. I wish I had known sooner. I would've gotten help. Then also, as far as your kids go, I wish I had known to get the kids checked sooner.”

Dr. Bekki Ellis Williams
- Dr. Bekki Ellis Williams practices in Spokane, Washington at Clear Chiropractic. They have two locations, and right now, she’s at the South Hill location.
- BACKGROUND:
- Dr. Ellis Williams has wanted to be a doctor since she was five years old because she wanted to help people who were sick and suffering. Her mom suffered from migraines. She also wanted to be a teacher, and the true definition of a doctor is to be an educator. She wanted to educate people on how they could live better life. She studied biology in undergrad but wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. When she graduated, she decided to take a year off and study for the MCAT.. She got a job as a nanny for a chiropractor and also worked in his office 2 days a week.
- HER OWN HEALTH JOURNEY:
- She had dealt with back pain since middle school. Yoga helped to relieve pain. Every doctor she’d ever been to just said, "Oh, you'll grow out of it, don't worry about it." Now that she knows, she should have been under chiropractic care right away. Kids with pain become adults with pain. She had her first adjustment when she woke up with a kink in her neck one day and couldn’t move it. The chiropractor she worked for made an adjustment, and later that day, the kink was gone. Later, with X-rays, she found out that she has an extra vertebra in her lumbar spine. They had been adjusting her and making it worse because she had had this anomaly that no one had known about before. She tried a lot of different things, then once she got under upper cervical care and had her neck adjusted, her back pain went away.
- CAREER JOURNEY:
- After working at the chiropractic office for just a few months and volunteering in an ICU, she decided not to go to medical school but instead go to chiropractic school. She started school at Life Chiropractic College West in the Bay Area, California. There are over 200 different techniques, and they teach 12 of those there. That’s where she found upper cervical.
- WHY UPPER CERVICAL AND DCCJP:
- Dr. Ellis-Williams says this about upper cervical care,” There are so many different things that happen when you get your neck adjusted. Better posture, the neurology that happens, the pain receptors, there's just a myriad of things that happen in the body when we get our head on straight. Your body is so, so keen to know exactly where your head is in space. If we can make sure that that connection is happening, we can increase or decrease all of the, basically the alarm signals that are going off. When your head isn't on straight, there are alarm signals going off everywhere, and wherever is taking on stress, that area is where you're going to hurt. One analogy for that I had in chiropractic school that I really like is when you step on a cat's tail; it's not the tail that screams.”

Peggy Coffey
- Peggy grew up in the Littlefield and Lubbock areas in West Texas. Her dad was a farmer, and they had a hard life, but they managed and were a close-knit family. He retired, and they went into the insurance business. She went to work for a company named Texas Instruments and worked there for about 26 years. Then they closed the plant down, and she went to work for a few other places and ended up with the police department in the property room, bringing in evidence from crime scenes and storing it.
- In her 20s, Peggy went to work for a company called American Cotton Growers. She had to stand up all the time and started to struggle with that. It progressively got worse. She was experiencing extreme pain in her lower back and was bent over to her left side, and could not stand up straight at all. She was having sinus issues. She had been on all kinds of drugs, pain pills, muscle relaxers, and steroid shots. She was told she would have to have surgery and have rods put in her back.
- Peggy’s mother had a friend who recommended Doctor Blair, and so they made an appointment. She didn’t think it would work. The doctor took x rays, and she found out that her back pain actually stemmed from her neck. When she had her first adjustment, it did not hurt; it didn’t even feel like he had done anything. It took a while, but she slowly started seeing improvement. She could finally stand up straight and do things she hadn’t been able to.
- Peggy has been coming to the Blair Chiropractic Clinic for 46 years now and has seen three different doctors run the clinic in that time. She keeps coming back because she knows it helps her, and if she loses her adjustment and it’s caught in time, then she won’t be in any kind of pain.
- Peggy says, when pertaining to the Blair Technique, “Well, there's nothing scary about the technique they use at the Blair Clinic and everything, and it's just a wonderful thing. I really don't know what to say about it. I can put my praise to it and let me say that also that it's not only for back pain, but it can also be for asthma, it can be for headaches, it can be for kidney problems, it can be for other things.”

Valerie Kumkov Hill
- Valerie has lived in Lubbock since 1969. Her father came here initially to teach mathematics at Texas Tech. She ended up going to Texas Tech University and has been there ever since. She majored in Art and had a second degree in Dance. She taught in the public school system for 24 years. She has always been mindful of health and nutrition. Currently, in retirement, Valerie teaches yoga to seniors.
- Valerie’s husband was the first one to come to the Blair Chiropractic Clinic after doing some research. He'd been having some major neck problems even before they were married. It must've been sometime in the late '70s; Doctor Blair was there at the time. Her husband, as a child, had had some surgeries and physical problems that actually resulted from a childhood case of polio.
- While working at a bookstore, Valerie started noticing she was getting stiff and tense in her neck and shoulders. She then started seeing Doctor Blair herself. She started seeing results herself, and after their children were born, they became patients of the clinic as well. By then, Doctor Addington had taken over. He checked the kids out over the years, and they had minor adjustments. Then their son was involved in a car accident as a passenger in high school, and they got him in right away. No one was hurt badly, but their son seemed to recover much more quickly from that. The same happened with her daughter, as an adult, when she was t-boned by a drunk driver in her truck. They immediately brought her in again and had her checked out. She'd had some hip problems because of the way the seatbelt jerked her, and she had some adjustments done in her lower back and pelvis as well.
- Valerie has noticed as she’s gotten older that you often don't feel better right away or for a few days after getting an adjustment. When you come back a week later, things have smoothed out, and it was just her body reacting to being aligned again and the muscles having to pull slightly. The first line of care is to run a graph on the cervical vertebra and see how things are doing. Then if there's a problem, take care of it as quickly as possible so that it doesn't become a chronic problem. She has noticed that over the years, She’s had fewer and fewer adjustments. She can't even remember the last time she had her neck adjusted because it has been maintained so well.
- While teaching yoga at the community center, Valerie adjusts poses that need to be adjusted for age, and they work on things like getting down and up from a chair or the floor. Taking a long time to warm up, the first thing they do after breathing is to start gently moving their neck muscles, the very top of the spine, and then gradually warming the spine up. Her mission is to let people get over that fear of yoga and not be intimidated.
- Valerie wrote a children’s book during Covid called
- Clive the Lonely Llama.
- It was published by Wild Lark Books, a bookstore in Downtown Lubbock.
Here is Valerie’s teaching schedule:
Yoga classes: M, T, TH 9:30 at Maxey Community Center
Seated Yoga: T, TH 10:45
Fitness/light aerobics: Wed. 9:45

- Dr. Elder is a California native. He grew up fairly healthy and saw an upper cervical chiropractor, starting at about the age of 10, for sinus infections that were probably a long-term effect of a car accident that he and his mom had when he was four. His mom had gone to a chiropractor for some time and then was referred to an upper cervical chiropractor, Dr. Muncy (a neck specialist), by a friend. She found that she actually seemed to be starting to get better. It wasn't just relief. It wasn't instant. It wasn't quick. Slowly things were improving.
- Dr. Elder didn't want to be a chiropractor. He had no interest in healthcare at all until he met his wife, Ruth while doing mission work in Norway, and she needed this healthcare. Ruth was not healthy, it took her an extra two years to finish high school. She was having a rough patch with a lot of pain and obstacles. During her whole childhood and teenage years, she just had one thing after another. There was never a time she was well. She had infections, pain, and weird symptoms. Her vision went on for a period of time, she had tendonitis and back pain since she was six years old. At age 11, she had a really acute situation where her whole upper back and neck were locked up, and she couldn't move it. From that time on, she always had a headache. It lasted more than 20 years.
- Getting Married changed everything. After getting married and moving to Lancaster, CA, Dr. Elder’s hometown, he took Ruth to see Dr. Muncy. He ran some tests and pointed to the spot where she had been feeling nerve pressure in her neck, but other doctors had told her that it wasn’t possible. Dr. Muncy said, "You have a bone out of alignment, and it's putting pressure on your nerves right here". He pointed to it, and Ruth’s eyes welled up with tears. She thought, "Finally, for the first time in my life, somebody found something wrong." She slowly started to see improvements.
- Ruth got a job with Dr. R. Weldon Muncy, a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor. She would come home and tell Dr. Elder stories of patients' healing. Dr. Elder was in college, planning to get a master's in international business. They decided that he should become an Upper Cervical Chiropractor because he was good with his hands. Also, Ruth would need this kind of care for the rest of her life, and if he was able to take care of her himself, they could live anywhere in the world they wanted!
- Dr. Muncy asked them to stay in California and eventually take over his practice. While still in chiropractic college, Gordon followed Dr. Muncy in his practice as often as he could to learn from him. Dr. Harkins, who had been trained by Dr. Blair himself and Dr. David Toppping, also became his mentors. Eventually, Dr . Elder became more interested in what Dr. Blair had done in case management. This led to a friendship with Dr. E.A. Addington, whom Dr. Blair had recruited to take over his practice in Lubbock, TX.

Dianne Madison
- Dianne’s father is Dr. William G. Blair, the founder of the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique. Not only did he see as many patients every day as he could, but he would also stay at night studying x-rays, and doing research. He even went to a medical museum to see a spine and wrote a book about that.
- Dianne says about her Dad, “ He was such a good person, and he worked so hard. In fact, he practically worked himself to death because he was such an intelligent man and just studied, and studied, and studied because he wanted to help people. He had asthma from day one, and he wanted to help them, and he knew that this did.”
- Dianne’s mother, Dottie, introduced him to an upper cervical chiropractor. She not only got him interested in it, but she took him to an upper cervical doctor that adjusted him, and it helped pull him out of an asthma attack.
- Her mother always wanted a family member present at the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Society Annual Convention. The Blair Society was founded after her father, Dr. Blair, died in order to make sure that there was continuity and quality over the Blair Technique that he started and developed and taught and researched, making sure it continued in that form and didn't just disappear. Dianne’s Mother, Dottie Blair, Dr. E.A. Addington, and Dr. R. W. Muncy founded the Blair Society.
- Her own health journey: She got an adjustment pretty early when she was really young. Probably the day after she was born. She was checked very often. She has always had really good health. She had adult-onset asthma, which has always been under control because of being in alignment. She is now 67 and has stayed in alignment for the last five years or longer.
- Most people don't realize how much upper cervical care helps because when you first get under chiropractic care, and you've got issues, it took years for those issues to get where they’re at. It's going to take some time to correct itself. When you get adjusted, the nerve supply is able to go freely to your body, and that's how the body heals itself. It's very important. The neck is where it all starts.

- Kim says she can’t remember the first day she came to the Blair Chiropractic Clinic. That's probably a good indication of how poorly she was feeling that day. She would describe her state back then as being in a tunnel. If you've ever suffered from many illnesses or prolonged pain, she would say, you end up getting your peripheral vision shut down where you really feel like you're only able to pay attention to so many things at once. That's a hard place to live.
- She was diagnosed with mild scoliosis in grade school and started having headaches at 15 years old and on through her 20s. Also had uneven hips and what some people describe as a short leg syndrome. Her hips were not level. Later she developed vertigo and balance issues.
- For many years Kim was a full-time horse trainer. She rode horses all day long, every day, six days a week, for a good portion of her life. Over the years, she had seen lots of different practitioners and, had lots of body work done, been to a lot of doctors trying to get help with some of her other health problems. She had cranial sacral work done. She had tried a lift in the shoe, been to reiki practitioners, and myofascial release experts, and traveled around the country seeking help.
- When talking about her first adjustment, Kim says, “I just remember how gentle it was. It really was such a subtle move. I'd been to chiropractors for 20 years or so before I came to seek some treatment from Dr. Elder, and that was definitely just the most subtle and easiest one I'd ever experienced. Since it was up high, there was a little part of me that was really curious about how that would feel.
- The healing process: Kim says, “Well, I was so much better within 30 days. Stunningly better in 30 days. I had a full-time job, an office job that was pretty low demanding, but I would spend so many of my lunches napping in my car on my lunch breaks and then sleeping after I got home or laying down as soon as I got home. After my adjustment, not only did vertigo go away, I got really solid on my feet again. It felt good to move again. I had ambition. I had the desire to get out and about again instead of just laying around hoping that I would feel good enough to even get my house chores done. I started having some vigor and some vitality again. That was huge for me, so huge. There were a couple of shocking things that happened. Around 2017 or so, I noticed that my left foot was starting to migrate away from my midline. After my adjustment, much to my surprise and delight, my left foot and ankle migrated back underneath my left hip and left knee. My leg was straight again.
- If the brainstem comes all the way down into C1 and C2, and it's the largest fattest part of the spinal cord right through those first two vertebrae, and if your atlas and axis are not in alignment, whatever in alignment is for your own anatomy, then that's a huge problem. All the neurological issues that come about because of that spot being messed up. The brainstem is the first part of our brain that starts to function when we're in our mother's womb, and it's the last thing that goes when we go out. It's essential for our life.
- Kim had gotten to a point where she thought she would have to live with serious limitations for the rest of her life. Her message is “ No, you don't have to live like this. Not only do you not have to go to 14 specialists trying to figure out what's going wrong with you. You can literally just come and have Dr. Elder check your neck. It's my understanding that he's pretty good at just figuring out if he can help you or not by some of those basic eval tests that he did on me.”

In this episode, Dr. Drew Hall, a leader within the Upper Cervical Chiropractic profession, tells stories of how he used his own fight against chronic pain and his naturally driven personality to help thousands with their health. He has built three successful Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic practices in Los Angeles and Sarasota and led the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Society in its vision of “Blair to the World”. He talks about working with mentors and shares some of his favorite recovery stories that he has personally seen in his practice.
- At the age of 17, he was wrestling with a friend and was dropped on his head. He heard a crack. After a few months, he started having headaches and comprehension issues, and a lot of other chronic problems such as depression and anxiety, etc. All of this went on for 2.5 years. In college, at age 19, he started having suicidal thoughts. He then found a Homeopathic Doctor who recommended a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor named Dr. Tom Forest.
- He was scared of what he thought “normal” chiropractors do (popping and cracking), but the Dr. Forest explained how Blair Chiropractic is different. He decided to go give it a try and got his first adjustment, and began healing.
- Now he’s a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor!I definitely wasn't an empathetic person before. Having had been sick and had that happen to me, yes, it made me really empathetic and realize that people don't feel bad because it's just all in their head. If it was just all in their head, they would be able to get themselves out of it. Dr. Hall tells his patients that in order to be a doctor, a prerequisite should be have to be sick yourself first because you'll have a different perspective with these types of cases.
- Dr. Hall calls himself the last-ditch doctor. His patients, generally speaking, have had chronic conditions for the long term, and they've been from doctor to doctor, and no one's been able to help them. He especially loves taking care of babies and children.

Kyle Forster was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Coronado High School back in the early '90s, then went to Texas Tech. His father started Forester Construction back in '85, and he had gotten sick right before Kyl graduated college. Kyle was about to go to law school but instead helped out at Forster Construction, which he owns today.
In this episode he will tell us about:
- He had low back pain. His back would pop out, and he tore a muscle across his back at 18 years old. He has had a lot of pain on an ongoing basis since then.
- 2 years before meeting Ruth, Kyle started having jaw pain that moved to his eyes, which he thought was from previously being hit in the jaw by a golf ball. He went to a chiropractor and got popped. The pain got worse so he started going to a bunch of different doctors.
- Kyle was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. It was pure hell. There's no other word for it. It's pure hell. Three hours of sleep at night.
- doctors that there are very few options. You can solder the nerves in your face where your face will droop, and that'll help ease the pain. Or you can do Botox for temporary relief." Then the other was heavy medication. None of those options seemed acceptable to Kyle.
- Kyle and Ruth met at a Referral Networking group called Referral Hub in Lubbock, TX.. Kyle had been praying the night before to show me a sign. Ruth shared with the group that Blair Chiropractic Clinic helps people who suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia and headaches. Kyle decided to talk to her, and he put it across that he wanted to try this. He was desperate and was willing to try anything at this point.
- At his first appointment with Dr Elder, he got an adjustment that didn’t feel like anything had happened. 4 days later, he slept through the night for the first time in 2 ½ years. Pain decreased over the next couple of months. Not only did the Trigeminal Neuralgia get better, but his low back pain and sciatica, with the pain and numbness going down the leg, also improved.
- Because of the great results, Kyle has referred lots of family members and friends for Upper Cervical Care at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic in Lubbock.
- Kyle Forster and his brother-in-law own Forster Construction. It's been around since 1985. They do residential and commercial roofing. They’re not a jack of all trades. They concentrate on just roofing and take good care of their clients. They offer the best warranties on the residential side and on the commercial side. They have superintendents on both. It's not just some crew coming out, throwing on some shingles, or throwing on a flat product. They take good care of our people. There's a reason they have had an 87% retention rate since 1985. They take good care of our people. Kyle says: “Well, it's West Texas. All you have is your name, and everything in West Texas is about respect, and that's why it should stay.”

Dr. Elizabeth Hoefer, DCCJP, tells the story of how her anxiety and suicidal thoughts left her in an instant. Now she is devoting her life to multiplying the kind of help she herself received by being a leader within the Upper Cervical Chiropractic Profession, where she has obtained the highest level of specialty in head and neck issues in order to continually be able to help even the most severe, chronic and complicated conditions.
In this episode, we talk about the following:
- Suicidal thoughts. Looking at where she is right now as a successful doctor in private practice you can draw the conclusion jthat the beginning doesn't dictate the ending. Your choices every day are what make the difference. Dr. Hoefer always had a resolute determination to be successful. It didn't necessarily mean financial; it just meant that she was going to get up every day and survive. Education was a pathway to success.
- Getting off medication, she started feeling a little better, but it didn't take away that suicidal ideology, which is that overwhelming perseverating thought of just wanting to die every day.
- A friend recommended Blair Upper Cervical. She didn’t believe it would help because she had been under chiropractic care her whole life.
- It was determined that she had a tiny posterior inferior left misalignment of the atlas vertebrae. The reason it's called the atlas is that they named it after that Greek God that held the world up on his shoulders. This little two-ounce bone holds up this big bowling ball of a brain and a skull. The implications of that being misaligned and literally choking off communication between your brain and your body and your body and your brain is massive.
- Kevin Leach, a student, gave the correction. Instantaneously, her mind was healed. Dr. Hoefer had hope for the first time in her life and had never experienced that kind of peace.
- Dr. Hofer says God healed her so that she can heal others. This is the motivation that has driven her to continue to pursue education to get to the top of the profession in order to understand healing better and to help more people.
You can find Dr. Elizabeth Hoefer at Well Connected Chiropractic in Mission Viejo in Southern California.

Dawn McCready
- Learning about Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)? What is TN? Trigeminal neuralgia is a neurological disorder most common in women over 50, and usually, it's severe pain on one side of your face and it's sharp, stabbing pain. That, and then electrical shocks, also come along with it. The pain is on and off, and then the shocks are on and off as well.
- How and when the symptoms started and progressed.
- The difficulty in getting diagnosed. There were many doctors involved over multiple years. Many didn’t know.
- How Medication worked. Effects and side effects of gabapentin.
- Taking the step to travel from Albuquerque to Lubbock to get real relief. Her family pushed her to seek whatever solution possible. She was in such severe pain one of her daughters had to call because Dawn was unable to talk. The daughter found information on TikTok. They also read The book: What Time Tuesday? By James Thomasi
- What the treatment was like: Dawn says she came in absolutely petrified, to be honest. I was petrified because the thought of adjusting the neck and everything freaked her out. Immediately after the adjustment, her thought was:"Wow. It was nothing!"
- The Healing Process. After the very first adjustment, Dawn stopped having the severe, take you to your knees, electrical shocks. It wasn't just immediate, but every day she was feeling a little bit better.95% improved at the time of the recording.
- Advice to people suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN):I do realize people's pain with trigeminal, and it's life-changing. The day that you figure out you have trigeminal neuralgia, your life changes forever. I would just say that don't give up. Keep trying to find something that works and helps you.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to What Pain in the Neck, the Podcast! Friends and Experts are sharing their True and Tried solutions to suffering .
Several stories come from my own life experiences and learning, but most come from the room where it happened, working in specialized healthcare since 1994. Suffering people understood there had to be a solution. They found there was hope, their suffering RESOLVED, and they got their lives back.
For more than 20 years, I lived with Chronic, debilitating pain 100% of the TIME. Every year growing up was worse than the year before. Practically speaking, I was an invalid. And yet all the doctors were telling me they couldn’t find anything wrong with me.
I have felt life get choked off from the inside. Then I got to know what it felt like when life came rushing back.
In 1994 my young husband, Gordon, took me to see a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor. He found an injury in my upper neck by the brainstem.
This was the underlying cause of my suffering. I used to tell Doctors I had pressure on the nerves in my neck. They said it couldn’t happen.
Now a Doctor was telling me what I already knew to be true. I had pressure on the nerves in my neck. He fixed it without any popping, twisting, or jerking. The correction was so light I hardly felt it. But I slept through the night for the first time in my life. That was the beginning of my healing process. Turns out the brain and the neck influence the health of the whole rest of the body,
Soon after, I got a job for that Doctor. It turned out healing was a trend. Hundreds of people got better from all kinds of conditions, and suffering was resolved. This was so exciting my husband and I decided to devote our lives to helping people in this exact way.
In the years that followed, I went from being an invalid to having an active life as a mother of 4 children and discovered that I loved, loved, loved group exercise and made this hobby my career for a few years. I had gone from being a parsley leaf to someone who lifted heavier than most guys. Along with a healthy nervous system, a healthy lifestyle is a medicine for the body, mind, and soul. I will share stories about it all.
Over the years, I have seen transformations in people’s faces.
There was a cloud of suffering worse than Eyore. Then somewhere along the way, there was vibrant color, sunshine, and fireworks coming out of the eyes when they smiled. People got their lives back. Many of them are sharing their stories with me and me on this show.
I have heard people say, “Why didn’t I know about this sooner?”
These stories need to be told on the record.
As an assistant to Dr. Muncy and then as a Wife to Dr. Gordon Elder, both Certified Advanced Blair Instructors, I have helped host seminars and dinners. It has been my privilege to listen to many great discussions from some of the best high-level doctors. Many of these experts share their specialties and insights on this show.
I got my own life back because someone told me despite a lifetime of suffering and going to Doctors, I hadn’t tried everything. There was hope for me still. Now I am telling you.
I can trace my healing back to the work of a smart and dedicated Doctor named William Blair. In 1951 he published a flier with these words:
“Sick People need Friends, Friends who know what it is like and have an interest in seeing sick people get well. “
I am that friend. My time has come to use my voice and my purpose.
Are you suffering and feeling like you have tried everything? Gone from Doctor to Doctor, had tests, X-Rays, MRI, and more, only to be told there is nothing wrong with you?But You know something is very wrong with you?!
It is not in all in your head.
It is a real pain in the neck, but it doesn’t have to continue.
I ask like Dr. Blair asked in his pamphlet:
“Could it be that YOU are Suffering Needlessly?
