Voice Of GO(r)D is very happy to bring you Marilyn Burns, Tony Olienick’s lawyer, and Danielle Slettede, one of his oldest friends and longest serving member of the men’s support team.
Marilyn tells us about her history in Alberta, including her roles in politics, as she is one of the founding members of Alberta WildRose, her legal career, and how she came to represent Tony in her first ever criminal case. Marilyn and Danielle provide insight from having been in the courtroom, especially Danielle, as she has been there since day one.
Danielle has done a great deal of the legal legwork, taking on a second full time unpaid job in the filing and studying of tens of thousands of documents, and being in court for pre-trial and trial almost every single day.
They tell us about Justice Labrenz and the details around the sentencing, why that sentencing was ‘unjust’ and did not follow precedent, and I discuss many of the things they can’t. We also get into the ‘envelope’ situation, what that means going forward, and the practicalities of appeals versus riding out to parole.
There will be more written commentary on the sentencing in time, please stay tuned.
Tony and Chris have recently been transferred to the Drumheller Institution, a medium and low security detention facility in Alberta. As of publication time, they have yet to be issued prisoner numbers nor protocols for sending them letters.
As soon as that info is made available, it will be shared here on Substack and over on my Twitter account, as well as the men’s respective FB supporter pages.
The Men still have outstanding legal bills, the envelope situation has yet to play out, and fundraising is ongoing.

Oliver Bateman Does the Work at his now defunct podcast project with Aimee Terese, What’s Left? That show had a great run, and along the way Oliver did a series of interviews on ‘Doing The Work’, where he would talk to regular people with regular jobs, and I was quite chuffed to be the first interview of that series.
This discussion was recorded in November of 2020, and was probably amongst the first half a dozen or so interviews I have ever given, so my apologies if I don’t sound polished or even prepared for such a thing … not that my presentation has improved any in the ensuing four years; ‘Voice Of GO(r)D’ as a title for the show is nothing if not self referential humor at my own expense.
In the interview, I discuss my family history in the trucking business, and many of the problems in the industry, themes of which you will recognize as threads through all of my work since. The industry seems to have only become worse, but we can’t make trucking better if we don’t talk about the problems facing it, even if they seem intractable.

Voice of GO(r)D was honored to sit down with Christine Decaire, a lovely woman who, in exercising her rights to peacefully protest against the Canadian Government during the Freedom Convoy, became an example of the use of Lawfare by the Crown against normal people. In weaponizing the judicial system this way, the vindictive authoritarian Justin Trudeau has been able to persecute hundreds, if not thousands, of regular people in Canada, and Christine graciously offered to share her story of being on the wrong side of that equation with us.
As of the publish date of this podcast, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Ms Decaire was still waiting on a ruling about the Crown's appeal of her acquittal.
Christine Decaire is a mom and grandmother who lives in Western Saskatchewan.

Documents recently obtained under FOIPOP by associates of Jeremy Mackenzie, Canada's number one Enemy of The State, have begun to be analyzed and show an alarming level of malfeasance on the part of the Canadian Government and its security services, The RCMP and CSIS, as well as the media, and a state funded activist group called The Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN).
Voice of GO(r)D is joined by Toronto based Lawyer and independent journalist Caryma Sa'd, who has reviewed these very recently released documents, and with Elisa Hategan, another victim of CAHN and their penchant for smear campaigns, has drafted a deep expose and summary of this nexus where agents of the security state met a government incentivized to engage in a witch hunt by a client group driven by toxic identity politics, whom have afforded themselves illegitimate credentials as 'experts'.
In essence, everything you read in the media about Diagolon, Coutts, and the rationale behind the invocation of The Emergency Measures Act, was high level misinformation, grossly so, and built on a pack of lies.
The report/expose is a damning indictment of everyone involved, and is worth your time to read; in a normally functioning political culture heads would roll because of it. This is, however, Justin Trudeau's Canada, and democracy ain't what it used to be.
And all of this with the backdrop of political prisoners in Alberta, and the current and ongoing trials of Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, who were prominent leaders of the Ottawa component of The Freedom Convoy

In this, the fourth episode of my special National Truck Driver Appreciation Week series, I invited some friends of the show on to discuss the biggest lie in the trucking business, the Driver Shortage Narrative. What better way to appreciate someone than to stop pretending they don't exist? Let’s get the government to stop shoveling money at corporations who use this falsehood to suppress our wages.
Justin 'Supertrucker' Martin, social media guru over at FreightWaves, joins us to fill us in on his boss, Craig Fuller, the CEO and Big Kahuna, who laid quite a Twitter smackdown on the American Trucking Association; Lee + Lisa Schmitt bring the latest research on the number of drivers, along with interesting truck accident data, from our friends at CDL - Drivers Unlimited, and Mike Lombard joins us later in the show to fill us in on how the shortage narrative does or does not affect the goals of the young people he is assisting move within the industry in Mike's new position as a recruiter.

Even TIME Magazine knows the score, and a newly published study by friend of the show and author of Big Rig - Trucking and The Decline of The American Dream author Steve Viscelli also shows what everyone knows the real problem to be - RETENTION.
A short snippet -
We looked at a wide range of statistical data from state and federal sources. We talked to drivers, shippers, industry associations, and other stakeholders. We heard about problems facing drivers. Some of these concerns, like congestion and poor driving behavior, are perennial. For other problems, like the state’s truck speed limit and limited truck parking, the state has options to consider ready at hand.
We did not find evidence of a shortage of people interested in becoming truck drivers, but we did find strong evidence of a retention problem. That problem is concentrated in the long-haul segment of the industry—the segment that caused shippers the most pain in 2021. Because of this high turnover, long-haul trucking is the primary gateway to the industry for new truckers. Drivers argued that the job was challenging because of long hours and time away from home, but poor-quality training and bad initial jobs discouraged many would-be drivers. In this area, the state has some unique opportunities to foster partnerships that will better utilize state training monies. These options include funding and fostering an alternative pipeline to trucking careers built on local training and local jobs that lead directly to agricultural trucking jobs.

Voice Of GO(r)D is very happy to kick off Truck Driver Appreciation Week in conversation with Dr. Michael Belzer, the author of Sweatshops on Wheels, an academic inquest into what happened to the wages and working lives of truckers in the aftermath of economic deregulation, brought to the industry by the Motor Carrier Act of 1980. Published back in 2000, this book remains one of the seminal studies on the effects of deregulation over this very large and important sector of the working class.

"Dr. Belzer is a former Teamster tank truck driver with ten years and more than three quarters of a million miles of over-the-road experience. He was a driver both before and after deregulation. For thirty years, he has been studying the economics of the trucking industry, supply chain infrastructure, truck driver health and safety, unionization and collective bargaining, and the effects of deregulation.
His experience and research show that recruitment, retention, and safety problems are economic, not technical. Based on his research and analysis, he proposes clear policy solutions to the issues facing the trucking industry: fair labor standards, "safe rate" regulations, and the use of market forces to create incentives for behavior changes. As he knows from his perspective as an economics professor and as a former truck driver, being a truck driver was once a good job and it can be one again."

In researching the situation with The Coutts 4 for a future article to be published in Newsweek, it has come to my attention that the men are being tortured and abused even more than I was initially aware. Extended periods of solitary confinement and denial of necessary medical treatment are but two of the abuses being heaped upon Canada's most infamous political prisoners, and one of their advocates joins Voice Of GO(r)D to fill us in on the disheartening and disgusting details.
Nikki Thom is a lifelong friend and business associate of Anthony (Tony) Olienick, one of four men arrested by RCMP at the Coutts, Alberta, border crossing during Freedom Convoy demonstrations in February 2022. Nikki very graciously joined the show to discuss the complete and utter abandonment of these men, and the contemptuous disregard for their health and basic standards of care which are typically afforded all other prisoners.
Please listen carefully to this discussion, and then take the time to share this episode, or better yet, send it to the various authorities listed below; it is beyond time for them to start doing their jobs.

Every once in awhile a particular type of 'poast' or 'poaster' on the internet goes viral, or develops a legend around them, wether they know it or not.
One such poaster is Kevin Kenneth Koehnke, whose selfies featuring his custom made trucker caps are instantly recognizable. Mr Koehnke has had quite a mysterious sort of legend spring up around him, due to his past 'BoomerWaffen' poasting on Facebook, and in part to other internet accounts sharing his pictures, acting as a sort of homage, a tribute, which only add to his fame.

Former state job training and placement agent "Joe" joins Voice Of GO(r)D to tell us about his experiences with government funded job placement services, and how they are incentivized to push people into the trucking business, wether they are qualified or not, or have any hope of success in the business or not.
There are implications in this discussion for the driver shortage narrative, as what Joe worked in was a piece of the stealth corporate welfare system which trucking companies rely on to maintain their churning of bodies through the business, rather than improving drivers working conditions and pay in order to keep them around.
Perhaps if we weren’t shoveling taxpayer money into these systems, those improvements might come naturally.

Voice Of GO(r)D is very happy to welcome Cornell Sociologist Karen Levy, PhD, to discuss her recent book "Data Driven - Truckers, Technology, and the new Workplace Surveillance", which is a very deep dive into the effects of Surveillance Technology such as the ELD on America's truckers. We discuss Karen's interest in how rules are managed and negotiated in practice, and where this intersects with state and corporate desire to use surveillance technology to enforce those rules on workers. Karen's research has found some interesting things about this technology, how it works, what it does and does not accomplish, the marketing around it, and how it affects the working lives of the surveilled. There is much consideration to be drawn from her study for the wider working class.

British writer and Twitter Anon Mr. KB Goldtooth requested an interview with me for an upcoming essay he is writing, on the inspiration that he and others in the UK's 'Together' movement took from The Freedom Convoy; it was nice to have the table spun and be asked the questions for once. I spoke with my friend D, a public school teacher in Ontario, about how public sector and most other unions were actively hostile to The Freedom Convoy, and have largely abandoned their commitment to defending the interests of their members, at least where it concerns Bodily Autonomy.
We also discussed The Reckoning that is going to be required for society to heal, after the last 3 years of relentless psychological warfare inflicted on everyone by just about all of the institutions whom are entrusted to 'manage' society.
