Sometimes we only see the wins and Instagram perfect lives of successful risk takers, but what happens behind the scenes? What mistakes are made when risks are taken?
We are Ethan and Jo, and we are self-confessed serial risk takers. Join us as we explore our own journey of taking and living with risks, and as we chat to fellow risk takers. We will share the good, the bad and the ugly of what life is really like when you live on the edge.
New episodes every Monday and Wednesday at 6am.
In this episode we share our tips on how to prioritise, how to find a balance and how to juggle the struggle. How can you take risks when you have children financially dependent on you? The struggle is real and you can find a way to do all the things you want to do.
How do you become a responsible risk taker and not a reckless risk taker? From our decade long experience of taking both big and small risks, we share some of the steps we take when considering a risk in order to mitigate the impact and manage the outcome.
In today’s episode we talk about the power of mindset and knowing when to quit a risk. How do you know when to keep going and when to stop? We had a decision to make with the shop: should we carry on or throw the towel in. This is what we decided and how we made the decision.
Honestly, we can’t adequately describe how low we went with the shop. On the outside, it was a roaring success but on the inside we were just about holding it all together and on the verge of giving up. But we are still here to tell the tale…
It’s time to finally introduce you to THE SHOP. There are so many feelings and emotions related to this risk. It nearly broke our souls and destroyed our marriage. It pushed us to the edge and continues to stretch us. We talk about how we got the shop and why we opened it. Buckle up and prepare for a wild ride… there will be at least another part to this story!
Not long after moving back to the UK and after listening to a lot of podcasts and rewind a lot of books, Ethan decided to quit his full time job and go 100% self employed. People thought we were crazy, but it felt like a very calculated and logical risk to us. Little did we know that a few months later, Covid-19 would come around and the world would come crashing down…
In this episode we talk about why we moved to Belgium and how we dealt with living in the moment and preparing for the future when the future looked so uncertain. It was hard! But looking back, we learned so many lessons (and had so many funny experiences!) in Belgium.
In this episode we talk about graduating from university and becoming adults. If only it were that simple… we really struggled to do the whole “adult 9-5 gig” and we ended up doing some more crazy things… We discuss how to deal with the pressure of taking risks when people are rooting for you and what happens when you feel self conscious about taking risks. We are pretty candid in this episode!
Having children is a huge risk. When, where and how many to have are big decisions. We always knew we wanted to have children, but a family history of infertility issues and the fact that we were both poor students about to go on a year abroad meant that we weren’t sure when. So, like always, we made some pretty crazy decisions, some big risks…
We got married after just 3 months of dating and we were both super young. Although it didn’t feel like it at the time, this was a huge risk and one that we feel has paid off. But there were so many things that could have gone wrong and these days, the odds of a successful marriage aren’t great. Here’s why we decided to get married and a few of the struggles we had while dating and newly-married. If you listen to the end, we have some bonus bloopers for you ;)
Welcome to the Diary of a Risk Taker. This podcast is a risk, but we will get to that. We are Ethan and Jo, and we are self-confessed serial risk takers. We’ve been married for ten years and we’ve been reflecting on all of our crazy decisions. We’ve taken some pretty big risks! But, the journey of a risk taker can be a lonely one. Everybody celebrates the wins but nobody shares the struggles. Success is about sacrifice, but everybody focusses on the good. But what about the bad? Taking a risk is risky! We want to share open and honest conversations about taking risks and the living with risks. Join us on our journey! We are excited that you are here.
