I saw an advertisement in The New York Times today: "We do the meal prep, so you don't have to." It served as a reminder for me to focus on the most crucial aspect when creating products, services, or concepts: the solution. Now, I'm passing on this reminder to you.

In everyone's defense, I believe that at this point, we understand everything about problem versus solution. And we have become (quite?) adept at grasping what the customer wants/needs and then creating accordingly. However, where I think we fall short is... communication. Conveying to the customer precisely this: "I do xyz... so that you don't have to."

How would you structure your communication based on the statement: "I do xyz... so that you don't have to"?

The only thing you can predict about the customers is that they are unpredictable.

This episode is about Practical Empathy (credit: Seth Godin in his book "This is Marketing") - understanding that customers don't know what we know, are not as motivated as we are and thus will not put as much effort as we do into our idea. Nor should they.

Inspiration to this episode comes from this adorable LinkedIn post: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7022993260797120512/

Welcome to this episode of Get The Clients. Today I want to talk to you about a strategy where instead of delivering everything to the customer, you let them fill in the rest themselves.

The inspiration for this section comes from (this LinkedIn post), a book store that has understood this exactly.

Challenge to you: do you have anything in your communication that you could leave out instead of delivering it directly? Because remember... sometimes you deliver most by letting the customer fill in the rest.

In this episode of Get The Clients, I would like to talk to you about time. Or, about setting aside time during your launch for a few different things. You see, a lot of people only focus on packaging their ideas, when - in fact - you also need time for:

  • getting to know the client/buyer/customer/consumer
  • researching what they want/need
  • filling your own competence gap, if there is one
  • packaging your offer (not earlier then here)
  • validating your idea/concept
  • creating/producing your thing
  • getting the technical tools in order, if you need them (you will need some!)
  • creating content
  • sales/marketing/communication

I hope that this go through makes you remember all the important parts of concept development - and also make you schedule them all!

A few years ago I found myself putting a lot of hours into Call of Duty. To "justify" all those hours, I decided to write an article on what the game taught me about running a business. Funny story: this is yet to date my most read article! Translated to a few languages and widely popular. So I decided to create a podcast episode out of it. Enjoy!

(Here) is the original article.

And if you are playing COD... add me and we'll play together. My name is Magdalena Bibik.
