In this episode, I sat with Jeanne to discuss her art and healing journey, exploring shamanism, polarity, trauma, and spirituality. Meet Jeanne Bessette-

Creativity is so powerful it invites our inner curiosity to channel our highest spirit. It connects us to our deepest emotions and guides us toward inspiration and awe, and that brings forth our true self. Jeanne Bessette’s art hangs in the homes of thousands of private collectors and some notable public figures. She has enjoyed working with actors, directors, and producers of films, musicians, authors, and television celebrities alike.

By 2014, after many years of trial and error, Jeanne was represented by over 24 galleries in the U.S. and in Canada. By 2016 Jeanne was successfully producing and selling over 500 works of art yearly, and she was beginning to feel the pressure of that level of success as a mid-career artist.

In 2018 Jeanne made a monumental decision to change the way she was working. So she removed all of my art from the galleries and took some time to work on her soul and recalibrate who she was as an artist.

Jeanne hired spiritual mentors and guides and dove into my truth as an artist, a healer, and a psychic being. What has come of that is the work you can now see as conscious art.

Her career continues to thrive and is built upon a discerning clientele in a much more personal way. Working one-on-one and through dealers who understand that the relationship between artist and client is important and that true art is not just something we hang in our spaces but something that is alive.

In this episode I sat down with former police officer turned entrepreneur, Nick Motycka. He shared with me openly about his experience with Psilocybin and how it forever changed his healing journey and life!

Nick grew up in Alberta with a father who was a member of the RCMP. This along with his wounded inner child had a major influence on his law enforcement career choice. Nick went on to spend his entire adult life, 23 years, in various enforcement-related positions; security, loss prevention, bylaw services, Canada Customs, Court and Prisoner Services, as a regular member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and finally as a member of the Calgary Police Service. Nick spent time on the street with both agencies, in a Crime Reduction Unit, Drug Unit, Drug Undercover Street Team, Gang Suppression Team and finally a short stint in the Public and Media Relations Unit before his breakthrough, formally known as a breakdown, on September 16th, 2020.

Nick was diagnosed with PTSD and set off on a journey to finally process the traumas collected during his career in law enforcement. A year and half in, countless psychologist and occupational therapist appointments later, he was able to finally get the help that he needed; one psilocybin assisted therapy session. With clear intentions and a strong willingness to do the work, Nick went from severe PTSD to no longer meeting the criteria for any diagnosis.

In this episode, I sat down with Demetria Goode, founder of The Goode Fight, to chat about how she turned her near-death experience into a powerful catalyst for helping others.

In November of 2021, CEO Demetria Goode, founded The Goode Fight, LLC after she was brutally beaten and stabbed by her Ex six times in 2013. Burdened by trauma and pain, she believed it would stop in death, and attempted to take her own life. Demetria’s plan was interrupted when her youngest daughter described how much she loved and adored her. From that point, she took on a new, positive, and fresh outlook on life.

Determined to heal, she began the process of loving herself in the past, present, and future. Obstacle after obstacle, Demetria started to confront, accept, and acknowledge what it was she did have control over in her life. The road to healing would form the foundation and basis of the inception of The Goode Fight.

The mission of The Goode Fight, LLC is to positively impact the lives of victims affected by domestic violence or life trauma. We strive to complete this mission by making connections and sharing life experiences in a group setting, or in individual sessions. The Goode Fight's vision is to help others with support they may not otherwise have within a space free of judgment.

Demetria is a firm believer that opening up and sharing your story within a welcoming community through the platform of The Goode Fight will help others going through similar experiences.

In this episode, I chatted with author, Erin Riley, to talk about how her long-term marriage to a covert narcissist almost took everything, how she took back her freedom, and how she's moving forward to heal herself.

An emotionally neglected child with a generational legacy of stoicism and hiding painful truths, Erin had no real experience with love and healthy relationships. The marriage she thought would be her happily-ever-after led to 20 years of confusion, heartbreak, anger, and betrayal, all fueled by a malignant covert narcissist.

Erin’s honest, searing memoir recounts her self-discovery journey through a series of life’s traumas and tragedies, her many bad decisions, and two toxic marriages. Her story will bring insight and guidance to survivors of narcissistic abuse and those questioning their relationships, and the hope that they, like Erin, can find a joyous rock & roll redemption.

In this episode, I had a lively chat with Jen Uschold about the connections between the mind and the body and how trauma healing must include both for healing to be possible.

Jen Uschold (DeLorenzo) grew up outside of Buffalo, NY and has been a PT for over 3 decades. Out of her love for PT and helping others to empower themselves, she was drawn to both pain science and health coaching. She is proud to have been in the first cohort passing the exam to become a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach in 2017. She has completed extensive training studying persistent pain including a Fellowship in Pain Science with Evidence in Motion. Jen is an eager learner and has also studied Lifestyle Medicine and most recently has become a Positive Intelligence Coach for Mental Fitness. Jen went through a challenging divorce. In that process, she realized how to integrate her decades of learning to show up grounded, calm, and confident for divorce mediation. And these strategies can help anyone navigating challenging circumstances or transitions. Her three favorite people are Adrianna, J, and Dean- her three kids. As the saying goes, laughter is good medicine and Jen wholeheartedly agrees.

She works with midlife women who struggle with mother wounds and childhood trauma and want to heal those wounds, find their power, and confidence and release their trauma so they can go for their goals. Then she started working on her own mindset, discovered who she was, and loved the feeling of inner contentment and confidence to transform from being scared to speaking on stage.

A bit about Brooke, she had an abusive relationship growing up with a narcissistic mother, then moved on to two abusive adult relationships, she's been homeless and brought up 4 children single-handedly. Her experience had given her a unique way of understanding people where they are and helping them to find their power. At the age of 18, Amy Frame joined the military and left for basic training on Sept 18th, 2001. She spent one year overseas in Iraq, where she met her partner for the next nine years. This relationship was Co-dependent and completely unhealthy. Amy learned this model from her mother. After nine years of increasing abuse from both sides, she left after he threatened her life.

It took years for Amy to heal from the pain of that experience, and along the way, a whole new identity emerged. She was an Emergency room Nurse by the time the relationship came to an end and Amy packed up everything she owned, quit her job, and moved back home. Then she spent a total of 12 years as a bedside nurse. Two years ago, Amy stepped away from bedside nursing and created a practice where now she works on healing souls.

Over the years, Amy has learned two things, Life is short, and healing begins with the soul, not the body. It is here that she created her Coaching Practice. Now she spends her days working with individuals whose wounds cannot always be seen. Amy says, "It’s the most impactful work I have ever been called to do."

Her voice became public on The Dr Oz Show in March 2012 where she started a long journey towards healing. Brittany has fought through, not only your traditional "coming of age" difficulties, but a heart-wrenching road of eating disorders, addiction, homelessness, losing a sibling to suicide, and parental narcissistic abuse.

Today, she is a life coach who specializes in women’s empowerment and addiction recovery with the privilege of helping others who are ready to break their chains and live a life beyond their wildest dreams. In this episode, I sat down for a very open and heartfelt conversation with Maurice about the healing journey after trauma. As all my episodes do, this conversation travels down a path of discussing self-care, love, and how Maurice is helping people move away from the excuses which keep us bound to our past.

Facing a crossroads, Maurice F. Martin chose a path less traveled, the life-changing journey of healing, growth, and purpose. His second book, Your But is Too Big: 7 Principles That Empower You To Heal Past Hurts and Get Motivated to Find Purpose was written to help you heal your past wounds, discover who you really are, and live a peaceful, purpose-driven life. Maurice has been through his fair share of trauma - from masking the private pain of his childhood to battling depression in his 20s. After becoming an award-winning vocalist and songwriter, Maurice hit rock bottom and it became clear that there was only one way out: he had to let go of what had been holding him back. Now that he’s healed, Maurice is on a mission to equip and empower you to release your limiting beliefs and become the person you were born to be.

Dianne Simboro is a recovery coach, behavioral profiler and consultant who works with survivors of family violence to assist with their recovery after they exhaust all available government-sponsored crisis support. From her own lived experience of violence and her ten years of professional experience working with more than five hundred other survivors, Dianne developed effective step-by-step strategies to disentangle the layers of trauma and conditioning in the mindset of survivors. By unlocking the ‘what happened and why’ behind family violence in a way that is easy to comprehend, Dianne found that the women were more able to let go of their past, regain their confidence and move forward to create a better future for themselves and their children, skipping the revolving door cycle of violence.

In this episode, I sat down with Katie Lain to talk about how domestic violence and addiction often go hand in hand. To escape the devastating realities of her home life, Katie found herself turning to alcohol more and more finding herself hopelessly addicted. Even after she freed herself from her abuser, the addiction remained but not forever. Listen with me as Katie shares her story of how she found her own way to thrive after abuse and addiction.

Katie Lain struggled with alcohol addiction for almost 10 years – cycling in and out of periods of abstinence and relapse. She desperately wanted to fix her drinking problem, but couldn’t figure out how. But in 2017, she finally escaped this cycle when she learned about a medication-assisted treatment for alcohol dependence called The Sinclair Method (TSM).TSM is a clinically-proven treatment for alcohol addiction discovered in the 1990s and helps people reduce heavy drinking and eliminate alcohol cravings over time. Katie gradually reduced her drinking through this method, to the point of going completely (and accidentally) alcohol-free one year after she started. She now runs Thrive Alcohol Recovery where she offers a comprehensive program for The Sinclair Method, and she also serves as an advocate for this method – reaching thousands of people through her social media channels.

Having fallen into every Western medicine trap on the planet, she is now advocating for a trauma-informed approach to care and wellness.

In this episode, I talk with Shana Francesca. An amazingly powerful woman whose story of survival brings inspiration to other women who want to learn how to design a life of their own making.

Now Shana uses her talents as an interior designer to help others remove old energies from their homes and workspaces. She shared with me why she loves working with her clients saying, "They're like, incredible human beings. But they're sharing their story with me and I get to be part of changing and shifting their home to be a place of safety, because so much about our home, you know, especially if they choose to stay in that home for whatever reason that traumatic relationship ends or that traumatic situation ends or there's a death or there's a whatever it is right? When we entered, we're all in everything's made of energy. So the energy of what existed and what was done inside of a house stays with it. And we can transmute, and we can change that energy by, you know, changing our perception and our view of a space by reorganizing that space."

In this episode, I talk with survivor and memoir writer Kimberly Henry. She shares her story of when she realized she’d lost herself after a series of abusive relationships and how finding the courage to write her memoir and helping others write theirs changed her life forever.

Growing up, Kimberly, saw firsthand the effects alcoholism had on family and relationships. She was determined not to repeat the pattern, but as she shared with me, "Yeah if you look at the stats, it's significantly high that especially the more around that, especially alcoholics, the more that you're around it, the more you're going to repeat the patterns that you know. So I, it was inevitable that I was going to repeat patterns because I was resistant to really doing the work."

In this episode of Flow Working, I had the honor of sitting down and chatting with Eric Branner founder and CEO of Fons. We chatted about his journey from music teacher to SAAS tech platform founder, why community means so much to him, and his thoughts on running a community-focused business.

One thing Eric loves more than music is community. During his early years as a guitar teacher, he found that those he had deep relationships with were people who were his best clients and referrers. When he saw a need for a better scheduling/payment platform, Eric founded Fons and took his community mind into his new venture.

Eric shared with me, "...when we started Fons, that was kind of the thing that I really leaned into, cuz that's what it always worked is to reach out to people that did similar work to me and say, Hey, maybe I can help you earn a better living and really mean it right? And want their feedback, and then share my ideas. And so the, the Fons community has really built out of that, where we've kind of have this collection of people from all over the world that are doing this type of impact-based work, right? Stuff that makes their communities better."

One thing is certain in life and business, who you know deeply matters. Take a page from Eric's book and focus on serving your business clients like family. The returns you get will be worth their weight in gold.

In this episode of Flow Working the Entrepreneur's Podcast, I sat down and talked with marketing research specialist Angelo Ponzi. We talked about why, how, and when you should do market research so you can always keep on the pulse of what your customers really want.

Understanding how to get your product or service to market in a way that will get you the biggest bang for your buck is how Angelo spends his time. During our chat, Angelo shared with me that many people skip the research part of marketing thinking that the idea itself is enough to get a product or service sold. One thing Angelo shared with me is that just talking to customers is the simplest way to get an idea of what is and isn't working.

He shared, "...just talk to your current customers, or more importantly, talk to some of the customers you've lost. Try to understand, why did they stop working with you? Or why? You know, was it a product or service, I had a client had a great product, but they were losing business. And what we found out is there had some customer service issues. So people in that department were frankly taking people off and in the their brand promise of you know, we can do this for you as falling short."

Get out there and start asking people who have, haven't, or maybe even just don't know about your product yet. You'll learn loads and your marketing will be even more effective in the long run.

In this episode of Flow Working the Entrepreneur's Podcast, I sat down for a chat with marketing coach Jay Fairbrother. We chatted about money, marketing, and why the traditional sales funnel often fails to help coaches grow a sustainable business.

The traditional marketing funnel has you gaining hundreds or thousands of leads only to have a handful spit out the bottom. This approach can be draining, frustrating, and downright expensive for many people. Coaches, who by nature are service-based people often struggle to convert leads to clients at the bottom of the funnel which makes it even more stressful.

Jay focuses his programs to help coaches find better ways to get to their ideal clients without the need for expensive upfront marketing funnels. One of the key factors around getting more from your marketing is understanding how money plays into the whole picture. When it comes to profits Jay knows many coaches struggle because they want to help others first and make money second.

He had this to say about making money, "...a lot of people do have issues around money and quote, unquote, profit, you know, they don't want to be greedy. They want to serve people they and you know, it's really sometimes tough to really get out of that, that mindset, first of all, just to accept the fact that it's okay to actually make money. And so I have an exercise I do called your profit, why? Which is kind of like your business, why Simon Sinek kind of thing. But it takes it from the perspective of just profit. So it's an exercise that kind of walks you through, you know, let's look at you know, not only that you're okay with it, the word and make money."

In this episode, I was blessed to sit down and chat with the influencer, author, and badass B.O.S.S Yassin Hall. She shared the story of her personal journey through how she, and her kids, found success as entrepreneurs with their own Amazon stores empire.

One of the intriguing insights Yassin shared with me was that she became an entrepreneur by circumstance. As a mother of 4 kids with special needs, she found it necessary for her to have a very flexible schedule. What happened over the next 17 years was truly magical for her and transformative for her family. Yassin mused about how she views entrepreneurship sharing, "Entrepreneurship for me is making your own your own time to spend with your family, working around circumstances. entrepreneurship looks like joy to me. It you know, it's it's when you love doing what you do, it's not work, It's not work at all. And the work that I do is I continuously bless others, I became a multimillionaire selling on Amazon. And my daughter became a millionaire last year in December. So watching others get out of their, you know, get into their financial freedom and learn to earn the light that they dream that is our mantra."

Now she spends her time helping others and paying her hard-earned knowledge forward. Through trial and error, Yassin works with other aspiring Amazon sellers through her online self or mentor-guided classes teaching how she became the B.O.S.S. that she is today.

As a business owner, your list of To-Do's can feel never-ending. In this episode of Flow Working The Entrepreneur's Podcast, my regular expert Mary Gaul and I chat about her 4-D's of To-Do. Even though we feel like it all falls upon our shoulders as entrepreneurs it's impossible to be a one-human-show all of the time. That's why Mary has created a simple method for getting things re-worked on your list so that you can actually accomplish things that are important. She calls her method the 4-Ds of To-Dos.

As she explained the 4-D's of To-Dos are, "So is this something I'm going to DO is the first D DON'T DO Now meaning I can put it off another month, a week, whatever it is, I don't have to worry about it right now. Is it something I'm going to DELEGATE? Can I get this off my plate completely? Or this is something I can DELETE?"

Taking a step back from the hustle and looking over your To-Do list in a new light is a refreshing way to tackle the same old day-to-day. It may even uncover things that simply aren't To-do's anymore and free you up for great new things to come your way.

In this episode of Flow Working The Entrepreneur's Podcast, I sat down with my guest Michael Woeckener to chat about the art of writing content. Even today when videos are king, being able to write effective emails, blogs, and social media posts help you stand out from the crowd.

As a technical writer, Michael knows the importance of being concise with words. He has turned his passion for writing into a business where he now helps other entrepreneurs get creative and express themselves in writing. One big tip he gave during our chat was that social media posts have their own set of "rules" to keep in mind when writing. Michael explained, "it is a social thing. And that's one thing you have to keep in mind. The litmus, that I learned that serves really well in social media posts is you never make your sentence any longer than the width of the social media page. So you don't want to go text wrap on a foot, like on a Facebook post. That type of thing. LinkedIn is a little bit different. You can go a little bit longer on that. But you want to take the person on a verbal journey. Much like, you know, you take people on a journey through your videos that you do talk about, here's where here's what why we're here. This is what we're going to do. And it's the same type of thing only in social media posts."

Knowing the formula to write successful posts and other content is a big part of your brand. It helps solidify to your audience that your words and the actions they experience are the same. So make sure you show up in writing as you do in life, AUTHENTICALLY!

In this story-filled episode, I had a wonderful chat with Mind Shift expert Shiraz Baboo. Shiraz shared with me his personal moments of learning how the stories we tell ourselves get us addicted to all the wrong things in life and how shifting those stories is a powerful way to shift your whole life. When it comes to life it's easy to look on the dark side, in fact, Shiraz explained that for most humans its easier to just keep the old stories because we get to prove ourselves right and are rewarded with a dose of our own dopamine. One of the most interesting parts of this episode is when Shiraz shared that it's not just our stories that we're addicted to, but in fact, we can even take on other people's stories.

He explained, "The other thing is stories are contagious. So you can pick up a story from listening to someone from, from hearing what happened to someone. And from being an experience and even just from being in the energy of that person. Which it seems kind of crazy, but I've seen it happen. So have you ever been in a situation where you acted completely out of character? And then afterwards you go, what the hell was that? That's not me. You jumped into someone else's story for a little while, and then came out of it again and realized, oh, shoot, that's not me. Yeah. And that happens to people all the time. And you can stay in a story for a few seconds, or the rest of your life and anywhere in between." We often think of addictions in life being those that are outside of our bodies. Drugs, alcohol, and food quickly come to mind, but interestingly enough we are actually addicted to our own misery!

In this episode of Flow Working The Entrepreneur's Podcast, I had a lively chat with cash flow expert Alvin Narsey. He shared with me his personal journey through entrepreneurship and how he takes his hard-learned lessons and helps others navigate their own paths.

While it may not seem like cash in the bank, how you spend your time is just as important as how much money you bring into your business. Alvin shared with me a few tips about analyzing what you do, how you do it, and most importantly how much time you spend doing it. All of these tips are designed to help you make more money but more importantly hold onto your cash as long as possible.

One great tip Alivn provided was about doing a time audit. Learning how you spend your time so you can then layer on systems to be more efficient. He explained, "if you're a solopreneur, and you've just started your business, and there is a real you know, there's a real pride in like, Yeah, I'm doing all of this myself, and I'm gonna get it all done myself. But I think, for me, and a lot of the clients that I attract, our businesses are about providing freedom and lifestyle. And yeah, the sooner we can start setting up systems, so we can sort of take a step back, the more we can go and play."

In this episode I had the pleasure of sitting down to chat with movement expert, Angie Berrett. We talked about how trauma shows up in the body, the ways in which our bodies store the trauma, and a bit about the proprietary movement techniques which Angie has created to help people heal. During our conversation, Angie shared some very interesting things that happen to everybody when stress and trauma are introduced. One of the main ways that it shows up for us all is in how the body physically stores the stressors over time and can cause major health issues. When it comes to alleviating the body's overwhelm, Angie knows how to implement proper movement techniques that bring huge relief, in fact, she developed her own method of movement specific to trauma. One of the Angie'sfavorite suggestions is to add fun and play to your day. She shared" Part of the way that our nervous systems heal is to play, play is a reality we're. So all mammals, humans included, are born with circuits pre-wired into our brain. And play is one of those. So think about how children learn. They learn by playing puppies learned by playing. And so when as a dolt, we can tap into that circuitry of play, it actually can help to reform, re heal, rebuild neurons in our brain. And so pretending like you're that 13-year-old girl, or boy, you know, singing in the microphone, doing whatever, actually is a way to tap into that part of our nervous system that can heal. So it's multifaceted when you do that." Are you a survivor of trauma looking for new ways to heal? In this episode, I chatted with my regular expert Amanda Fuel about her own personal story around why she does what she does for herself and her clients. Being a coach, like Amanda, it's easy to give out the advice that one should open up and be vulnerable in all their messaging. However, much like any advice, it's easier to give than it is to live.

Recently Amanda received the following advice from her own coach, " And I got a challenge from a coach of mine. That said, I think you can go deeper with your own personal story. And doesn't that always happen like, I've really appreciated that outside eyes to say, you are so much deeper than your sharing, you're sharing deeply and yet I know there's so much more so give us the real deal and I, I wasn't even completely aware of how much my personal life had affected my business transformation until this question came so thank you to that coach that asked that great question."

This episode is Amanda Fuel's full story in her own words and standing (well sitting actually) in a place of vulnerable authenticity. She shared with me her personal why and how compassion for her son's journey changed her whole business and life.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with my wonderful guest Laura Hulleman. Laura, along with her partner, has developed the Endotype which is a unique take on branding. Her method accounts for the WHOLE person and how you really show up in life and business.

Every business needs clients and there are some ways that are better than others when it comes to attracting people you want to work with. The Endotype is a way that Laura works with her clients to help them understand their own unique characteristics. Much like a personality test, the Endotype dives into how you think and then takes it one step farther into how you feel and your own human tendencies.

Laura explains it like this, "Because as humans and as, as we grow up, and we are in business, right, we learn to be adaptable. What's your natural answer? So once we find that natural answer, do you think more like this? Or do you think more like that? From there? We now have how you think how you work, which is a lot the way Myers Briggs tests for? Yeah, how do you think, but we know we are not thinking beings. And so within the Endotype formula, we connect those thought patterns, those cognitive functions that Myers Briggs tests for, but we connect them with natural human cravings that we all have in a unique way."

Finding your own unique patterns, thoughts, and feelings helps you develop your brand in a way that is completely you. Once you are able to find your authentic brand all you do is stand in it and your clients will be more attracted to who you are and what you offer.

In this episode, I had a lively conversation with video coach Ed Troxell. We waxed philosophic (not really) about the importance of using videos in your social media, how TikTok is taking over, and generally geeked out together over our love of video.

When it comes to video nothing gets your message across faster. Why? Because 96% of human communications come from non-verbal cues. Video gives your potential audience 100% of you not just 4% with your words or voice.

During our conversation Ed had this to say about the power (and magic) of using videos on your social feeds, "And it [video] allows you to feel that person's energy, see them hear them, it makes all of these connections. So even if you're listening just to the audio of this, you're going to be inspired because now you're going to want to go look for the video part to see what we look like to feel the energy that we're feeling and putting out there through the camera. And it also allows You have to work smarter, not harder because you're creating one piece of content, that then you can repurpose into multiple pieces of content easily. And it's just so rewarding."

Videos are the #1 way to quickly deliver your message in a way that your audience will believe and trust. If you aren't adding video to your feed you might just be falling behind.

In this episode, I sat down with Charlotte Nicholson an executive coach to chat about energy, teams, and how showing up during stress really says a lot about you as a person. With all her global experience and living abroad many times in her life, Charlotte has a deep understanding of what stress can do to a person and a team. Now, using the Energy Leadership Index tools, Charlotte helps executives get a better understanding of how they, and their teams, are showing up at the worst of times.

All businesses, big or small, go through transitionary times it is just part of life. During our conversation Charlotte shared with me her thoughts on the subject saying," throughout our whole lives, we've really developed these, these filters, often unconsciously. And those can be holding us back from seeing the full potential that we have in ourselves, and in terms of what our life and our career have to offer. So that sort of brings me back to energy leadership because when things are unconscious, they're quite difficult to come across. And when you've got a coach, especially, let's say, a good coach, they're able to reflect back and mirror back to you what they see. And that's a way of getting the unconscious, a little bit more conscious. But an even better way. And what I take my clients through, this is really sort of the base of our work we start with this is an assessment called the Energy leadership index assessment."

In this episode, I had a great conversation with my guest Leslie Liondas, CPA. We chatted about how a business shouldn't really run you and she gave some great tips on not only why you should unplug but how to do it too!

When she took over her Mom's accounting practice, Leslie worked very hard, in fact, a little too hard! Like many busy accountants and bookkeepers, she thought taking time off was impossible. Now she, and her team, have transitioned into supporters of other accountants. They work to help them learn how to set up their businesses so time off is not only possible, it's empowering. Leslie shared that once she learned to take time off she came back feeling better. She told me"I feel present, being able to take that unplugged time off. And then when I come back, I feel that passion for my business again. And I'm more creative in my business because now I get to look at things differently. So when you're so deep in the weeds, you can't see straight. So taking that unplugged time off, helps you see straight..."

In this episode, I sat down and chatted with Tristan Wright. He and I talked about the ins and outs of small business ownership. From the importance of being a life-long learner to getting help, to how to set yourself up for time away from the business.

There comes a time in the evolution of a business when you have the choice to scale or grow, but what is the difference between the two? Founder and CEO of Evolve to Grow, Tristan has a passion for helping businesses scale in a way that works best for them. He shared with me some of his personal moments, some of which were a bit painful. From having super success and failure early in his life to realizing that having goals and a focus on your personal "why" is a BIG key to success in business.

One ah-ha moment he mused about was around the need for having a focus on why he was in business. Tristan shared, "for years, I didn't get that I thought, Oh, I'm just a small business. I don't need any of that. And, and I would go to business networking events, I would, I would talk to people. And this is all just part part of I won't say that. Yeah. Yeah, I just didn't get it. But as soon as I understood it, life became so much easier. I became happier, my relationships became better. We need, it doesn't matter if it's not your ultimate objective that you're working towards. But there needs to be a line in the sand that you're working towards. We need to kind of imagine that we want to climb doesn't matter if it's just a little ant hill."

In this episode, Karen Loftus, a leadership change coach, and I sat down and chatted about the journey all businesses go through as they grow from one person to a team, how disengaged employees hurt your bottom line and the overall effect of the "great resignation" on the entrepreneurial community.

Karen's corporate HR background and personal entrepreneurial journey give her huge insight into how it feels and her advice about transitioning yourself to a leader are to make sure you have a plan in place. Karen's thoughts on the subject of hiring employees "...especially as a solopreneur, you're going to probably go a virtual route initially, because you need somebody part-time for doing something, whether it be a task or a process, or a one-time thing. I mean, one of those things. And so really, the first step is kind of is really figuring out what is the work? And am I willing to give up that work? Right away? And if the answer is yes, then you go forward."

Taking a risk and adding a VA or other team member feels great and when managed properly can help catapult your business growth in new ways. Just make sure you have all your ducks in a row so you and your new team can grow. Are you ready to find out what hiring can do for you? In this podcast episode, I had a wonderful conversation with Adam Weber about his book and business Meditation Not Medicine.

The son of a doctor and nurse, Adam is no stranger to having "medicine" be the answer to everything that ails a human. However, after years in the corporate world, he found himself overly stressed but holding a desire to find a better answer to the stress than popping a pill to mask the problems. After research, thought and a bit of soul searching Adam realized his answer came in the form of daily meditation practice.

During the 2020 pandemic, he came to realize there was more to the meditation effect. So Adam began developing a method of meditation that anyone can follow, and in 2021 he published his first book Meditation Not Medicine and took his message to the world.

Adam shared with me, "And while [meditation] was known many years ago, from more of an Eastern or hippy type community, it would become more widely accepted over the years. And then with somebody like me who was wearing a suit every day, for a long time. Now I'll dress down wear a hat and a T-shirt. Pandemic did that to me. But that, you know, people started saying you're a different person. And when I would visit the hospital for my appointments, they would say something different, what's, uh, you know, and my test results and things like that came back more positive, not for the disease [MS] itself. But for other symptoms, things like blood pressure, blood pressure, high in fact that my blood pressure taken again, about two weeks ago, the lady said to me, she goes, this is really good for somebody your age, what you have going on? And I said it's the meditation."

Having seen the positive effects of meditation in his own life, Adam is now on a warrior-like path to bring the message to the world about the need for our vulnerable populations, children, in particular, to be educated and integrated with daily meditation.

In this episode of Flow Working The Entrepreneur's Podcast, I sat down and chatted with two award-winning photographers who both share a passion for capturing the fall foliage of New England's majestic woods.

My guests April Bielefeldt and Jeff Foliage have a combined 50 years of experience in all things photography. They shared with me the challenges of being an artist and paying the bills, how following their passions keeps their souls fed, and that sometimes making money isn't the end goal for a business.

April finds her passion is filled as she helps others with first-hand experience of the beauty she sees in New England's autumn foliage. She shared, "Yeah, I think it goes to that innate passion and growing up in the Midwest. We have the change of seasons and I ran into a lot of people in the photography groups I was in, in Los Angeles. People that like, never have ventured, you know, they've never gone to New England, they've never gone to Maine, they've never gone to Vermont. And thankfully, in a way, I think this time period that we're in right now, has turned the eye back onto what's right here within these great 50 states. So when people would see my photos, they almost felt like they were surreal."

For Jeff, his passion is fueled by the colors themselves. He loves sharing, through his blogging, where others can find (or not find) their own personal experience of these colors. Jeff mused, "So up here [in New England], you know, maples are king, but the birch, the ash, the hickories, The Oaks, come on later. And all of these trees give us that palette that is hard to find across most of the country. But I like mixing it up. I have a thing I made up, C4SC color for the sake of color. And I'm my wife, you know, she's like, why are you stopping? That's just a tree. It's just some fall colors. And it's like it drove me nuts though because it's like such vibrancy in the colors. I had to capture it." So whether you're seeking a personal experience off the beaten path or one that's guided by a passionate tour guide both Jeff and April love to share their passions with others.

In this episode, my regular expert, Mary Gaul, shares her thoughts on why saying no is an important part of planning and productivity.   We all love feeling important to others and as entrepreneurs, it's hard to turn away things that feel like opportunities.  Yet that is exactly what Mary shares, No is sometimes a vital part of getting better opportunities on your calendar.

Growing a business begins with making a good plan, so what's the point in a plan if you say yes to everything?  Mary shares, "that setting that boundary for yourself, and then aligning it again back to your plan. Having that plan in the first place is so helpful because it helps you evaluate all of these other opportunities that come your way and say do they align with where I wanted to go in the first place?"    Being aligned with your business and the plan you set out to achieve is not only a great way to grow your business, but it's also a great way to honor yourself too.

In this podcast episode, I had a very heartfelt conversation with Courtney Nicole about coaching men and how she feels the decline of masculinity in society is hurting everyone. Why does this matter to the entrepreneurial community? Because healthy masculinity is what creates drive, purpose, and let's face it closes sales!

This episode is a bit off the beaten path from the normal business advice, but I'm proud to have this episode here because the loss of men who stand in their strong masculinity has become as taboo as sex, politics, and religion. This taboo nature around men is exactly why Courtney has decided to take her coaching practice and create a total focus on them.

Courtney shares, "I chose men as my target market because I feel that they're really under-supported in today's day and age. And while I am all for Black Lives Matter, and native Lives Matter, and I'm a huge flier of the rainbow flag, I still believe that everyone deserves support. And I knew that there was going to be a huge dip in support for men when we saw some of the feminist movement really climbing high and fast. And the answer is never just to remove a people group were basically like, on a very extreme level seeing the genocide of masculinity, because people were afraid of it. And people didn't know how to control it, or it was used for ill, and for evil in society, and through wars and everything. So I just kind of studied masculinity and what men were going through and felt like I had a real heart pull towards them."

A healthy entrepreneurial society is one that is balanced between the soft nature of the feminine and the bold nature of the masculine. Everyone deserves a safe space to discover their best self, and men, just like women, need a safe space to learn, communicate and grow together in their healthy masculinity.

In this episode, I sat down with my guest, executive coach Donna Star to talk about her personal journey from corporate to coach. We chatted about how giving yourself grace, finding other mentors, and delegating off tasks all help you be a better business owner.

All entrepreneurs understand what it means to be under pressure, but not necessarily how to give themselves grace while moving forward. Donna understands this type of pressure very well. Having been in the corporate world where the overachiever was praised, as an entrepreneur she quickly learned that being harder on herself was actually a bad thing for business.

Donna shares, "I recognize that in myself that I always felt like I had to be hard on myself that if I relaxed the gas pedal, took my pedal, you know, relax that a little bit, that I wouldn't be successful because I think we're deeply programmed to believe that if we don't push ourselves, we're lazy that the opposite of pushing is lazy. And we, we don't want it badly enough. And that's really fundamentally very old programming."

In this podcast episode, I have a chat with my regular expert Alison Proffit about how to follow up after events so that you can create connections to other people.

You may know that the point of hosting or going to an event is to meet people so you can get clients, but do you know what makes a good follow-up?  Alison shares some practical ways to plan for and execute on developing better relationships after events.  One of her favorite tips is to make sure you "don't give people homework!" Take bold action and get connected immediately. Alison's thoughts are "if you're at an event of some sort, like take the action right away. So it might be if it's an in-person event, hey, you know, I have my phone here, like, dude, what's your cell phone number, right? Or like, let's just put it on the calendar."   Networking only works if you actually get connected so there's no better time than at the moment!

In this podcast episode, I sit down for a heartfelt chat with transformational mindset coach Luke Harlan. We chat about life, business, and the mindset it takes to persevere through everything and find your path to success.

One of the big tips Luke shared with me about the fact that how you think has more to do with success than anything else. He muses over a mindset shift that he embraced which moved him from a place of victimhood into one that sees possibility. This shift was the game-changer for him and helped him see that being in a less than ideal situation didn't have to derail his business too.

Luke explains, " That's just life. But again, that locus of control, is it can you turn your obstacle into an opportunity? Can you turn your mess into your message? How do you transform what is happening and step back and realize? Yeah, it's kind of crappy. Yes, it sucks. You know, you all the whatever vernacular you use, most people, you know, have stronger words when things happen, or someone and really approach it for why is this happening? Why is it happening to me? What can I learn from the situation? How can I grow?" The subtle shift from the impossible to asking what's possible is a powerful business tool! In this live podcast episode, I have a lively chat with a public speaking coach, Amand Fuel, about the importance of bringing an experience to your audience. Amanda shares how meaningful presenting to a live audience can be when you bring authenticity and transformation to the stage. Being able to get your audience engaged with your speech is more than just asking people to raise their hands or share a few thoughts after. Amanda has a wonderful way that she gets her audience into the moment, asking them to share with each other! She explains how to do this in one easy step, ask!

Amanda shares, " So as an example of massive audience engagement, what if you could turn your audience into speakers and I mean, it's a teachers and engage the part of their brain that has to explain it, and like, make some sense of it. Really get it through their whole body and system in a different way and out their mouths. And a classic way to do this, that's an oldie but goodie, and is very rarely used anymore. It's just to have a moment in your speech, take a five minutes of your speech, which is a chunk for a speaker, but like five minutes to have one audience member turn to their neighbor, and just teach them something they've learned." When you give your audience a chance to engage themselves in your presentation, you're really giving them a transformational experience of you! Amazing!

No matter your skill level, are you looking to level up from a speaker into an audience transformer?

In this podcast episode, I chat with woman's weight loss expert Trisha Selbach about what it really takes to keep your body healthy after 40.    Trisha has over a decade of experience helping other women learn to love their bodies.

During our conversation, she shared that heavy weight lifting is the key to keeping the weight off. However, for women that can be a scary place to start.  For starters, many women have little experience with the gym.   She explains, "[women] don't have any experience working in a weight room, we don't have any experience working with weights,  we see a lot of women most I would say that come to me, especially my gym would be really afraid they were going to hurt themselves with the weights. So you know, it's really gratifying to teach women how to do weight lifting, weight training, and have them increase, you increase your weight slowly over time. You don't start out by doing a 200-pound squat, right."  Are you a woman over 40 looking to keep the weight off?

In this episode, I sit down and chat with productivity expert Mary Gaul and have a conversation about how to create a powerful plan to follow up with others in a professional way.

If we're being honest as business owners we often get caught up in the day-to-day of life and simply forget to follow up. It's great when business is humming along and you're making all the money you want, but are you leaving money on the table when you don't follow up?  According to Mary, you are!  She shares that she uses follow-up reminders so "when I'm sending that email saying, Hey, let's I'd love to talk to you. Here's my calendar link. But then if you never follow up with them, they never booked the appointment, then that's one lead that just you know, disappeared. So by you just following up two weeks later, it looks like you're professional, you're on top of it, you really do want to have that conversation with them."  Give yourself some grace and use a process and planning tool to help you make sure you're following up with those referral clients and never let another potential dollar disappear again.

Receiving money from your clients is one of the most exhilarating experiences as a solopreneur. You have worked hard to get to this point with marketing, sales conversation, and overcoming your own fears.  Why then is the money part weird for so many entrepreneurs?  In this episode I sit down and chat with  Alison Proffit, the owner of Proffit Coach, about how to move from weird to wonderful while taking money.

During our conversation she gave some great insights. Alison's tip, "a lot of businesses will do invoices, and that's fine, you can totally do that. But I think if you're able to take it from like that part of the process is just about the money exchange of money, but it's the exchange of money. And then we're actually scheduling the next step. It's like, include, it's like, in the middle of the before we put our next meeting on the calendar, this is the thing that happens. So I encourage people to literally just say, so this is the this is how my process works."  When you move from passively receiving income via invoices to actively asking and handling the money, you gain an opportunity to connect with your new client even before the work begins.

Ok, let's face it when it comes to running a small business nothing is more important than making and keeping key relationships. In this episode, I chat with Alison Proffit of Proffit Coach about the benefits of selling your services even if you aren't 100% done with their creation.

Pre-selling your services gives you the opportunity to get some cash flowing into your pockets, but there are many more benefits than just cash. Alison explains that when you're in a sales conversation it's not about explaining all the little details it's about selling the transformative experience.

She says"obviously, we as the service provider, we might get hung up on that. Well, I don't know all of the how yet. And it's like, but you're not selling them on all the how they care about what's the transformation. And so you already know what the transformation is, without all the mechanical details of how you're going to package it. It's really thinking about, like, you're not changing what you're doing, you're just changing how you're packaging it." When you are creating new groups or packages for your business, remember the 80/20 rule. When you're 80% of the way done go sell to 20% of the people you want to get into the class!

Making a plan for what you want to do this year is only step one.  Mary Gaul, a planning expert, shares it's more important to break down each step along the way. This way you set yourself up for success rather than frustration.

She points out," So when you're looking at your plan, and you set your goals for the year, hopefully, you've kind of broken them down into smaller goals for the quarter, even the month or the week so that you know how you're moving forward into those bigger year, year-long goals...we don't get to November. And we're like, oh my gosh, I got one month left to the year to get this golden, right.."  Give yourself a leg up for achieving your goals! Well, Amanda has a wonderful little saying that she uses to pull her through such times.    Her favorite pick-me-up from the blues is "Get down with the downs, and don't let them get you down!" Amanda shares, "that works for me [because] I'm like, you know, so get down with me, like, Hey, I'm done with this. I'm okay with it. I'm okay to not be perfect all the time and be in a perfect mood all the time. I recognize that there's gonna be ups and downs in life. So I'm down with the downs. They're my homies. I bring them in. In this episode, I chat with Alison Proffit a sales and life coach about how to ask powerful questions during your sales conversations.

Alison shares a few tips and tricks about what questions to use, how to use them, and when to know you've asked enough to close the sale.

Her advice is, "Our nerves are what causes us to be talking and talking and trying to fill in the gap or like over informing or giving too many details. That's your nerves. So app, say tell me more and then just take a breath. And we've talked about the power of breath in your sales conversations, right? I mean, sales is, it seems like the super scary and complex thing, but at the core of it, it's pretty simple. It's it's being in the moment, being curious and allowing that person to share more about what's going on and then you're listening and if you're talking you can't be listening."

Snail mail isn't dead, but it has to be used effectively.

I sat down and chatted with Nanci Garnand, a CRM and real estate specialist about a not-so-funny experience she recently had with snail mail marketing.   Nanci has been a real estate agent for years and used postcards to generate leads for her business. Now she's added the power of a CRM landing page to take the paper marketing to the internet via a QR code. But what happens when you forget the QR code? Well, as Nanci shares, your postcard is just trash can fodder.   Landing pages help give you a chance to capture potential customers right at the moment they are ready. With a QR code, you increase the chance of a connection because you can set it to send out valuable information like an ebook automatically.   Take a page from Nanci's experience and make sure that you add a bit of technology to your snail mail, just don't leave off the code!

Do you want an easy way to create high-quality landing pages and automatic QR codes for your business?

Every entrepreneur knows the feeling of shame that comes when things aren't going exactly the way you intend.

Sales coach, Alison Proffit, has this to say about how to shift away from shame so you can move forward and make sales, "I think when you're in these moments where you're having, let's say, you're in 10, great sales conversations, and it's just not the right time, or you feel like you fell all over your words, or whatever the situation is that that's creating this feeling of shame. Pause. And and the practice, I think that's really helpful is whether it's you have another human being with a mentor or business bestie that you have, or you have a journaling, practice, whatever that like that, that space you go to do some processing can be really, really powerful to ask yourself some questions along the lines of what went really well, right?"  Asking yourself questions is the best way to get your head trash out to the dumpster.  Are you struggling with your own shame cycle in sales?

Well, it's not much of a secret but it's super important...Get Yourself Organized!

Nanci Garnand, of Taupe & Ike, shares how adding and using her CRM tool really helped her grow her own business.  She reflects, "Getting organized. Actually kind of starts with reflecting on how the year went, What things did you do well, and how could you've done things better? And of course, it always comes with a little of dusting off or getting rid of the things that you don't need to have... The things that I kind of thought about that went very well is the relationships that they have. But how do I keep track of these relationships? And how do I stay organized?"  Nanci's answer to getting organized is the use, and as she confesses, an addition to using her CRM tool.  What's a CRM? It's a Client Relationship Management software that gets all your data from contact to notes about clients gathered all in one place.   Are you struggling to get yourself organized and stay on top of your key business relationships?  Check out the 30-Day FREE trial offer that Nanci offers with her CRM Strategic Success Tools. It starts with making a plan!

For many business owners, development is something that happens haphazardly. While that tactic might work at the beginning, eventually you need to put a plan in place.   Productivity expert, Mary Gaul, shares her thoughts about why planning your development time is so important. She shares, "We put so much pressure on just that first month of January. So, so taking some time and saying, How am I going to plan or build in some planning time around my personal development and my business development? Right? So it takes, you know, putting it on your calendar and having that set-aside time, but then looking at what are your goals around that? And do you need outside resources to do that?"  Give yourself permission to take all the time you need to plan for how your business will grow so you can show up the way you want to for your clients.   Do you need some help getting your plan together? You Speak With Your Body More Than You Do With Your Words.

What a fun time I had chatting with Amanda Fuel, a public speaking coach, about facial expressions.

In this episode, Amanda has me go through an expression exercise she sets up the exercise with, "Okay. Let's do it. Okay. So Megan, I want you to think of an emotional moment. Don't tell me what it is an emotional moment that you've had recently. One that you wouldn't mind eventually telling us what it is. It can be good, bad. Happy, sad. Got one, got one. And I just for my information, is this something that you might have a teaching moment around some time you might someday share in a talk? It was some kind of revelation or awareness point? Okay, great. Yep. Okay, so Megan, I want you to tell me in a minute or two, what this emotional moment was, but you're not going to use any words. Okay. You're also not going to charade me like do charades and try to make me guess. Okay. So it's not about me guessing it's about you sharing this without words. Letting your face and hands light up, as we said, from within, with the expression of the emotions that are in the story." Since more than 90% of all understanding from an audience comes from your body, giving a speech via video gives you even less to work with. Lighting up your face and connecting your emotions to your words helps you connect to the audience in an authentic way.

Selling service packages is great, as long as you stick to the timeline!

For service-based businesses, an easy way to ensure you are making a steady income and serving your clients is through packaging together hours of time into a single offer.   Money mindset expert, LeAndra Foster, shares how she learned a valuable lesson about selling then enforcing package timelines.   She muses about March of 2021, "I created a perfect storm for myself when I first started doing this, where I sold a couple of packages, and they were based on timeframes, I think one was a six-month package, and one was an eight-month package. And I was very disciplined in paying myself out each month... However, the mistake that I made was that I let them stretch it out, and I didn't follow the time period... so all of a sudden in March, I had a full calendar and I had no income. I had already paid myself out. And I was like, Oh, I can't even get a new client because I can't I don't have any room in my schedule to put a new client and I don't have any income."

Ok let's face it, giving a speech in front of a live audience can be a scary thing. Even when you rehearse and feel prepared, the nerves set in at the last minute.  You want to give a super polished presentation, and get real with the audience too.   Amanda Fuel, a public speaking coach, shares how getting vulnerable is one of the best ways to get your audience engaged.   She muses, "it's this double edged sword. It's also a double edged good news and bad news. The good news is that we don't actually want you to be perfect. We don't actually want you to be that polished, not care about any of those things. So the good news is, you can just get up on stage and be yourself. It's also the bad news sometimes to that other part of you where it's like, and I'm just going to get up and be myself and I don't, I don't get a mask. I don't get to be a character or to have a costume."

Take off the polished mask and just be yourself. It's what your audience craves so you may as well dive all in with your true self.

Setting your prices as a service provide can be a bit scary and many times people start so low that they are actually hurting their chances of making a sale.   LeAndra Foster, a money coach, shares how setting proper pricing will meet more than just your needs. A good price helps your potential clients know and feel the value that you are bringing to the table.   Sharing her thoughts, LeAndra explains, "So, what I've realized is, you know, from being in coaching communities, I often hear coaches kind of going, Oh, I just want to charge you know, $50 an hour so that it's affordable, but my coach tells me that I need to be charging $250 That just seems outrageous. And so there's there's two parts to pricing. IT MATTERS HOW IT'S WRITTEN

Content writing can be a daunting task, and the headline seems to be the hardest part. A headline must stop the scroll and get a reader to keep reading.   Lauren Roy, a creative copywriter, talks about why headlines are the most important part of any post.

She shares, " a headline is one of the most important because actually 8 out of 10 will read your headline. So it's a pretty good, it's a pretty good ratio. Yeah. So what I always like to do myself and what I recommend is, you know, doing something like a why starting with why, a how. People love using numbers like a number, you know, number one tip or three tips definitely including any like, hypnotic words I call them like, like the secret."  With stats like this, you can't argue that a good headline can make or break a post. Sticking to your budget doesn't have to be a huge monthly effort. In fact the simpler the method the easier it will be for you to follow.   This week LeAndra Foster, a money expert, talks about how she manages her spending.  Her favorite trick is to automate what can be automated and only manage the small pieces that are left.    LeAndra shares, " So that's really how I manage it because nothing comes out of my checking account except for standard bills like monthly bills. It's my credit. For me, it's my credit card. And so that's, that's really what I check is that credit card balance. And if it's getting to the monthly level, then I just kind of buckled down my spending and, don't say yes to everything without checking first."  A great plan is only great when you can follow it.  Keep your money tracking and managing to only the necessities and save yourself time and stress!

Amanda Fuel, a transformational talks coach, shares her favorite ways to keep your same old talk new on each delivery.  She muses, " I think that's what a lot of people can get into when they're talking about their business, because they've talked about it a million times, they've explained it, usually one on one to hundreds of clients sometimes, until they get up on stage. And they kind of, you know, either gloss over these incredible concepts that, you know, people fresh to the subject, or like, wait, what did you just say, you know, or they just say it, they actually still remember, it's incredible, but they just say it in kind of a monotonous tone, we can all get into that."

Setting Expectations at Home Will  Free Your Time for Business

The episode is a continuation of a previous conversation I had with money expert, LeAndra Foster. We chat about how having a family, especially for women business owners, often disrupts the flow of money in business.

LeAndra shares some of her personal ah-ha moments after she read the book Fair Play by Eve Brodsky.  She tells me that, "what was wrong with my schedule was that I didn't trust that I could fill my schedule, because when there are hiccups in the system, the family life system, it was my schedule that gave. And so that's a big part of it is setting that boundary of who's going to handle the desert, the disruptions this week, or who can handle the disruptions on certain days even. And just saying, No, my schedule is as important as your schedule. And so I think that that's one big thing."  By learning to communicate expectations, needs, and setting boundaries it's possible for everyone in the house to make money and feel fulfilled.

When You Listen, You'll Hear the Sale Before It Even Happens

Selling is more about them than it is for you. Yes, that's right, you really have nothing to do with the sale because you're there to help and offer not hound and pound.  Alison Proffit offers her thoughts about how listening moves you into more sales conversations.  She says,...thinking about when you're doing that [listening], you're not peppering the questions. It's, it's conversational. In a conversation. You're, they say, great conversation and a great communicators aren't just sitting there waiting to like, ask for their next question. Like knowing what the next question is. It is literally waiting till the person speaks to them formulate the next question. Not going down your list curiosity. It's it's staying in that curious space."  The old adage of listening twice as much as you talk is a wonderful way to just get out of your way. Simply listen and the sale will present itself or not, you never have to force the outcome.

From articles to books you can put more information in front of your potential clients.  While writing may seem simple, the editing process can be time consuming.   Mike Woeckener, a content expert, shares his thoughts on adding collaborative tech to your editing process.   He says,"it's a really neat way to go because you can actually see the other person typing. And, you know, there may be a little bit of a lag, depending on how quick the internet is where you are. But it's a really good way like, say, you and I were working on a book. And, you know, we could go through and we could edit that thing together. And I could say, well, what do you think about this, and I type something on the screen and go, you know, I like that. But I think this word fits better there. And then you can type your word in that you like and to erase what I just did. And so that's, that's really kind of a, it's a very effective and efficient way [to edit]."  Eliminate the back and forth with your editor and look into some document sharing and collaborating technology. Messaging Is Not About You. Learn To Speak To, Not At, Your Customers

When it comes to talking about what you do it can be easy to just say it in a way that you get. That may not work for your audience or potential customers.   Stephen Krausse, a business operations expert, shares his experience with missing the mark on messaging.   He explains that when you share about your business sometimes it's not the right words.

Steve muses,  "the person you're talking to may have that pain point. But they may not define it the same way. And so if you say, I'm offering services to solve this pain point, and they don't define it with those words, they might not make the association that you're trying to help them or that you're capable of helping them."  You don't have to know exactly what to say to start, but when you start talking don't forget to listen too. Your customers will tell you what they do and don't like about what you're saying.

Business is Not About Business All the Time

You didn't start a business so you can work and be grumpy all the time. And then think to yourself, oh, if I don't sit here and work, I'm not going to hit that goal. Um, because there is some truth to that you do have to be taking intentional aligned action, but that action needs to be inspired. And so if you go and live your life and add some play into it, and play doesn't need need to be, go spend lots of money on a vacation, a play could be put on some music and dance around your office, go for a walk, go for a bike ride..."  Ask yourself where you could put more play into your day, your business will be better for it.

A great social media strategy includes making a plan for posting regularly. Amanda Mundo, as a social strategist, cautions to start slow so you don't burn out before your strategy takes hold.

And then we have like social media envy, and we're like, I want to do that I should do that. That's what I'm going to do. And then you get on this train to crazy Ville!"  With all the influencers it's easy to see how you could get caught up in the idea of go-go-go. However, take some small steps today so you don't burn out tomorrow.   Want to get your social media posting on a great path? Tap below to connect with Amanda https://www.socialherobrands.com/

In this episode, Mike Woeckener, a writing expert shares his recent ah-ha's around the importance of being authentic in his own writing.

He shares a recent experience he had, saying, "Your journey is what makes you authentic. Where'd you come from? What is the history? In my case, I'm in the process of writing a book and it comes down to the getting close to the finish line. And I was talking to a book person yesterday who helps helps authors like me finish, and she actually asked me, you know, because the name of my business is Cycling Content Creation. And she said have you told any stories. And I actually I haven't, and she said, that would make me more relatable to and seem more well rounded to the people that read my book, versus just somebody who has got a bunch of good ideas and lessons."

Understand the Difference Between Marketing and Sales to Understand Where You're Stuck

Marketing a business is everything that doesn't involve actually taking money. The money transaction is the sales part and that is where so many entrepreneurs fall down. For one reason or another, they get to the money part and simply stop.

Small business coach, Stephen Krausse, talks about when you get stuck in your sales process it's not during your qualification stage it's actually in the conversation with a potential customer stage. So what Stephen recommends is that you put on your curiosity hat and really get down to what the customer wants.

Steve shares, "rather than immediately go to, what can I do to get you to fill out a shopping cart? approach it with curiosity and say, you know, were you looking at the issues for x? Did you need a profit and loss statement for? Why? You know, do you need it? Because you're selling your business? Do you need it? Because you have a tax problem? Do you need it? Because you just want to review it? Yeah. Yeah. You know, and, and so instead of approaching these, these, and one thing that people will, you'll hear this is they'll call and say, what questions can I answer for you? That puts the work and, and, and the thought process on the customer? If I knew what questions I wanted you to answer I would call you, or I would Google them? Or I would look on your website. Yeah. So if you call me I'm going to be like, Well, I don't know. And that you might prompt something and we might have a discussion. But but the results you're going to get when you take the action are going to be better."

When you are being curious rather than assumptive with a potential customer, you'll be more likely to close the sale at the end of the call. Understand your customer's need and you'll see that you're not really stuck your just in your own way.

Amanda Mundo, the founder of Social Hero Brands, calls herself a former "corporate cyborg" turned soulful entrepreneur. Over the span of 15+ years, she climbed the corporate ladder crushing tasks, projects, and assignments. In return, she was given even more work, more deadlines, and less purpose. She found that her family would only receive the leftovers of her energy and spirit after spending 14 hours days in the office.

So, in 2016, she and her husband decided she should become a stay-at-home mom to their 4 children and this is when she found the opportunity to start her business. She began as an administrative virtual assistant, and in 2019 she decided to focus on social media management. She found that social media was only a piece of a much larger puzzle when it came to building a presence, gaining clients, and the overall ROI. Meet LeAndra Foster

LeAndra Foster is an expert speaker on the topic of scale-up finances for women who run coaching or alternative wellness businesses. With almost 20 years of experience as a former pension actuary, hedge fund operations manager, and university finance instructor, she knows what it takes to make small businesses profitable. LeAndra helps her clients increase profits, feel confident in their pricing, and keep more of what they make, so they can afford their ideal lifestyle. She teaches a live online course called Double Your Profits in 30 Days.

From LeAndra:

"Hello! I'm LeAndra Foster and I'm so glad you're here!

I became a Sabotage & Confidence Coach, because it's something I know intimately. A few years ago, I hit a point where I had achieved some major accomplishments - I was a credentialed Actuary with a Masters degree in Finance, 10 years of experience, and was the go-to person for my retirement expertise - but I was afraid of stepping into a leadership role, because I didn't feel qualified. Worse yet, I was makingless money than I had when I started my career!

I knew things had to change. As I discovered my own restrictive mindset and learned to change it, I instinctively knew this was something I had to help other women with.

I now combine my 20 years of personal wellness "side-knowledge" – from nutrition and exercise to energy work and meditation – with my formal education and experience to help women like me. Women who have credentials and experience, but feel like maybe they need just one more set of credentials or maybe just a few more years of experience to be ready to step into a leadership role.

I help you discover the ways you're holding yourself back, dream your life bigger, and design it to make it happen. Together, we'll unleash your courage and confidence, so you can become a leader who changes the world and gets paid well for it!"

In His Own Words:

My vision? A world where successful small businesses are the rule, not the exception.  I know success looks different to every entrepreneur because we're all different.  30 years of experience starting, buying, operating, and selling small businesses has taught me two things.  Businesses are bought and sold on the perception of future value. Business owners are oftentimes experts in fields outside of business. I built Beyond 50 Percent to help owners stay in the top 50% of businesses that are still around year after year. I developed Business BeyonDIY to help entrepreneurs make their way confidently through the processes of buying, selling, and preparing businesses for sale.

And the way for that to happen is to make sure that we are transitioning them from just our audience, to our actual, like, on our email lists, in a place where we have more a little bit more control than on social media, because, you know, let's think about it. Social media always has these wonky algorithms, right."  Moving your audience to the VIP section allows you to give them more customized ways to connect.   People do business with those they know, so let your audience get to know you even more.

Okay, I'll shift everything around and come meet with you then."  Automating any part of your business frees up time.  Automating your scheduling moves business FORWARD.    Take a look at how you are planning your time, maybe its time to put up some boundaries and allow a scheduler to do the hard bits.

Running a small business is exhilarating and challenging! There are always times when you feel you are well and truly stuck but are you?

After 30 years of running small businesses, Stephen Krausse shares some tips on how to push yourself through the tough times. He shares,"I came up with kind of three scenarios where business owners get stuck. One is we get stuck on revenue generation, we get stuck on cash, and we get stuck on people. Right. And so I thought we'd go through each one of those things and just kind of talk about what we can do in a specific case, with each one. And, and they're all going to be variants on a theme, which in the theme is going to be taking action on a plan."

Taking action is the best way to move through any situation where you feel stuck. Once you are in action you may just find you weren't really stuck, to begin with.

A Vision is Carried All the Way Down The Company Line

Crafting a vision statement can sometimes feel a bit odd when you are starting out.   Mike Woeckener continues his discussion of writing for the future of your business.  This week he shares how and why vision statements are so important.

Mike shares that, "the objective behind a vision statement is supposed to be a short paragraph and it guides you through the obstacles and tough places,...And it is actually what is your target? What is, you know, your five to 10-year or beyond? What are you trying to accomplish? That's, that's part of it, too."  Moving a business forward is not always about making another sale. Developing a foundation upon which you can grow is more important for the future than any money you make today.

As a small business owner, any marketing that helps you stand out will draw a larger audience. One way to get in front of your potential clients is through videos.   Our social media expert, Amanda Mundo, shares her thoughts on how to use video to enhance your strategies. She shares it can be scary to start, "Because, to be honest, and frank video can kind of be a pain point for all of us at some point, you know, it's like, oh, my gosh, how am I gonna say this? Do I feel like I'm being transparent and authentic enough, this is great. But you know what, testimonials are a great way to start.  Remember video content can be just as authentic, maybe even more, than written content.  Like all things in business getting started is 90% of the effort.   So if you're considering video content give client testimonials a try to start.

Turn Off The Noise so You Can Tune Into Inspiration

It is easy to get believe that you are being inspired when you scroll through your social media feed or tune out watching TV. Yet the truth is that all you are really doing is making excuses to not be inspired.  Then you go to write inspiring content for your audience and find yourself empty of ideas!

In this episode I chat with content expert Mike Woeckener about ways he finds inspiration to stay consistent in his writing. His number one tip," turn off the television. There's very little unless you're watching something specifically designed but network TV, and definitely don't watch the news. There's nothing inspiring on the news. What I what I did several years ago is I replaced all of that wonderful stuff that I just explained in and I started listening to audio books in the car when I drive instead of listening to sports radio, and it's all speculation on oh boy, the Broncos are going to do really good if these 15 things line up exactly correctly. And who cares? Anyway, and I do like football. But you get inspiration from good literature, be it consumed Audio, Audio Only through audio books, or by actually reading you can find YouTube for me is a good source of inspiration because you can actually find full audio books on YouTube."

Find ways to use what you've got to get yourself inspired then take your inspiration and get it out to your audience.

Remember...Be Yourself!

Social media may seem like another place for passive marketing that's not really personal.  It seems that when it comes to business it's best to just post what you're selling consistently and move on.   However...  Amanda Mundo, the social media expert, shares that type of thinking may be holding you back.   As she points out, "I couldn't know like and trust someone who changed up every five minutes like, I'm like, Who are you today. Wait, what's going on. I don't feel like I really know you, so think of our normal lives, and how we interact with people. Think of your audiences on social media, as you know, interacting with people in your life, you're going to be who you are, that's the only person you know how to be."  Being authentic and purposeful in messaging is key to having an audience that becomes clients.   Besides, it's just easier to show up as yourself and rock it on social media!

Make it Flexible Enough to Stay Relevant

In this episode, I chat with social media strategist Amanda Mundo about how to develop a strategy for social media posting.  Her advice is to break it down into bite-sized chunks and keep it as flexible as possible so you can be on top of trends and newsworthy events.

Amanda shares, "Now, it's great, you could build out a whole year strategy. But the thing is, you have to actually come back to it. And I like to come back to it monthly, quarterly, really making sure that you're staying on the pulse of your audience. And so, again, I would say, you know, looking at analytics and data will tell you, first off, what is your audience like? What are they really engaging with, so that you can create more content, so you can create better content, and then really being relevant to what's happening today. Because sometimes what happens is we could create the strategy, but then something like a worldwide pandemic happens, and offset the whole thing. So you have to be prepared to guess create a roadmap, but then always come back to it to make sure your content is relevant."

Get organized in your strategy but don't forget that your audience loves when you stay current too.

Cancellations are frustrating, but do they have to be?

Alison Proffit, our sales expert, chats with us about her thoughts around a very important business question...  ...What do you do when you have a sales call or follow-up call cancel at the last minute?   Giving her sage-like advice as always, Alison's first suggestion is...Don't Panic!  Panicking is the fastest way to have a downward spiral in your head which leads to all kinds of interesting, and not so desired, results.   It's so easy for your inner mean-person committee to start making up wild accusations about why the call canceled.   To change that voice in your head her final parting words for us about silencing your inner critic,   Alison provides this gentle reminder " if you do see a cancellation come across your inbox is. Not all To-Do's on the list are created equal.

Mary Gaul, our productivity expert, once again has great advice about tackling the ever-growing to-do list.    "Sometimes there are projects on there we put on [the list], just because we think we have to. And so taking a hard look and asking, you know, why is this on my list? why do I really need to do this? And can I delegate it? Can I procrastinate on it?"  Business owners never lack for things so take a small piece of advice from Mary and look at the list with new eyes.    Anything on the list that can be pushed back or pondered over?  Remember being productive doesn't mean having to be busy at all times. In fact, many highly successful business owners work only 4 days a week. Find your productivity and let go of the to-dos that are not giving life energy.

LeAndra Foster shares her thoughts about how to successfully establish a steady paycheck.

As a business owner, it can be challenging to transition from a steady paycheck to an uncertain paycheck.   Using a common analogy of boiling a frog, LeAndra states  "If you put a frog into a pot of cold water and heat it slowly, you will a frog to death because it won't notice the gradual changes, we're going to use this in a positive manner, to increase our pay, we're just going to do it slowly so that we don't jump back out of the pot when things get hot."  Taking things slowly and only increasing pay the business can afford to is a GREAT practice.  It creates a small amount of incentive and still allows the business to retain enough cash to keep afloat for unforeseen times.

So, pay yourself just maybe not all at once!

Recently Mike, the writing expert here at FLOW, shared his thoughts about writer's block and how to get around it.

He joked playfully that a friend recently said of writer's block "It's just an excuse not to write."  In all honesty, Mike writes for a living so he knows a thing or two about how to get around the dreaded blank page.

His advice,  "[You] need to change your state. In my case, if I've been sitting in front of a screen for a while. I just get up and walk around and go out, maybe go outside of it's a nice day. And you can do this for like five minutes and just take your eyes off the screen, and you come back, and it's like looking at everything new."  Wow, simple yet effective. Get up and away from the writing for a few minutes or even longer and when you come back the words are all new.  From this fresh perspective, you can easily add, edit, or finalize any piece of writing.

3 Magical Questions

Asking ourselves questions is one of the best ways to unstick our minds. Mary Gaul, our productivity expert, shares a bit on a recent blog she wrote titled The Three Magical Questions.

Using the book The Magic Question by Bart Baggett as her source and inspiration, Mary poses that the first magical question is; what's good and what's new?   "[This question is] Presupposing that something is good and something new is always happening for us, right?. As entrepreneurs sometimes we get stuck in a rut and we think the same thing over and over and over again, and I'm not getting anywhere, you know I'm not feeling productive, or just feel stuck."  In her musings, Mary chats on an experiment that Bart Baggett did for his book where participants had to answer this magical question each day for two weeks.  Mary observed that the participants   "had to really start looking and observing things that they wouldn't necessarily have looked at in their business so it really does help you just shift if you're feeling a little stuck what's good and what's new."  Try it out, ask yourself "What's good and what's new? and see the possibilities come to light.

Social media is not devoid of people, but did you ever think that social media was devoid of SOCIAL interactions?

Amand Mundo, our fantastic social media expert, expressed her thoughts on the subject during a recent Q & A session.

Explaining that social media started as social but drifted once businesses began to see they could sell via posting rather than paid ads.    Her advice to small business owners is to be mindful that you are keeping social as Amanda points out,   "And I think the misconception that we have is that if you build it they will come. And that's not necessarily right...   ...No one's interacting and there's a reason behind that we have to remember that it's not always all about the media, it's about the social, right, that social part of social media"  The great wide world of social media is not a proverbial Field of Dreams.  Once you build it, add content to it, AND engage socially...THEN your audience will come.

When it comes to success in business, nothing is more important than being able to close a sale.

But what if you feel uncomfortable, or just don't like selling?    Alison Proffit, the resident soulful sales expert, chatted about one of her favorite tools when it comes to selling; breathing!  Yep, that's right good old and out deep breathing.  While musing on this topic Alison had this to say,   "One of the most powerful tools in your sales, your sales toolbox is breathing. Because if you're slowing down and breathing, you are actually giving that person time to speak, be giving yourself time to calm your nervous system down.  [when] You are present in the moment,  and when you are present in that moment, you're creating space for that prospect to also be present at the moment and not feel like you're rushing them to make a decision."  Since no business can exist without sales, calming down to make a sale makes a whole lot of sense.  Alison provides a great reminder that breathing is essential to being present and when you are present with your client you can be present to close the sale!

What's the difference between budgeting and bookkeeping?

This question is the topic of LeAndra Foster's, our cash flow guru, most recent session. When chatting on the subject, she shared a story of a recent client.  "I had a client who recently told me, no, I don't think I need help with budgeting anymore, I'm just gonna hire a bookkeeper.  My question to her was, is your goal with budgeting to figure out a way to consciously spend, or is it to help you figure out how you've already spent? She said, No, I want to learn how to consciously spend.   Well, a bookkeeper is only going to categorize what you've already spent. So you'll see how you spent but if you're looking at how you want to spend in the future, that's when you need to sit down and look at your cash flow plan."  Having a plan, as we all know, is the best way to ensure you reach your desired outcome.

As LeAndra points out, if you just want to track what you've spent get a bookkeeper, but if you want to really take the reigns and spend consciously then create a budget.
