Andie Moss and Ellie Puljak discuss the life and work of April Greiman, a self-described transmedia artist and leader of the New Wave design movement in the US, whose controversial embracement of the computer in the early 1980s encouraged her to identify beyond the label of “graphic designer.” They consider her influences, her unconventional design approach, and the implications that her acceptance of technology in design have in an age that regards the future of computers and creativity with fear.

Welcome to another season of Design&, a podcast made by the students in the Design Criticism course at the School of Design. Each year we approach this project a little differently. This year instead of starting with a question, we are starting with people, their stories, and why you should know them. People like Corita Kent, Thomas Miller, Wim Crowell, and Muriel Cooper just to name a few.
This is by no means a comprehensive list or a ranking of designers. It is simply an exploration of those that moved the field forward and have changed the perspective of what graphic design is and what it can be.
Enjoy.
In this episode, Hayley Foolkes and Brenna Prewitt share their thoughts on whether or not designers should be generalists or specialists.
In this episode we discussed the negatives and positives of graphic designers on and creating social media platforms. But instead of arguing over the question of are graphic designers responsible for the negative effects of social media, we need to be answering the question of why we are designing. It is graphic designers responsibility to design for others in a healthy and beneficial way to raise awareness.

We begin by talking about design and some of the tenets of good design, then move to explore how artificial intelligence approaches similar problems.
Next, we talk about AI; what it is, what it is not, what it is being used for, and what could potentially be capable of in the realm of design. We ultimately end by providing our own thoughts on the question.
