This episode is a little different as Jeanette interviews a non-autistic disability advocate, Wayne Herbert. Anita, a Certified Nurse Anaesthetist, talks of the challenges she has come across during her career and how she has successfully combatted these, giving crucial advice to parents and those on the spectrum regarding skills they need to help them gain employment. Furthermore, we will be talking to Anita all about her wonderful All Autism Wedding that took place just over a year ago. We will also talk with Anita about celebrating her recent one year anniversary, with her husband, Abraham, who is also on the autism spectrum. Anita sheds light on what it is like to be in a relationship with another individual on the spectrum, spreading the important, empowering message, that people with autism still love and can be in relationships.

A local school invited me to speak to teachers and parents (autism classrooms) about Thomais' experiences and views about the diagnosis, dealing with reality and moving forward.
This became an empowering exchange with a mom of twins, of limited means, who feels challenged yet more committed to her role of a mother -- and everything it means.
The greatest surprise -- the 10 year old sister of the twins with autism. Wise beyond her ears. So understanding of the diagnosis, the behaviors. She knows what she wants for her future... to be a teacher of special needs students. You know it -- she will be the best teacher ever!
What did I learn - one more time? As parents, we must keep thinking, acting, respecting the differences and above all, embracing the similarities and supporting each other.

Her friends know she is determined, persistent, positive, creative, open-minded and realistic, she believes these attributes and newly discovered ones, have prepared her to become the mother of eight year-old Thomais.
Yadira has worked as Editor for Trade Publications - Meat and Baking industries; Logistics - Cement Industry; Part-time Professor in China - Liaoning Normal Univ/MO State Univ.; and Teacher Assistant in 3 middle schools - ESE classrooms. Presently, she provides day to day support to adults with special needs.

This week jeaette speaks with Brian O'Connor who is inolved with the Mens' Sheds in South East Queensland. The Mens' Shed in South Brisbane has been established on the Autism Hub and Reading Centre site in orer to create a safe, supportive environment for men to talk about parenting a child with autism, and being the partner in a parenting relationship for a child with autism. Men participate in activities such as making or restoring furniture. Much of the research aroung parenting and Autism is based on the epxereicnes of mothers, but dads, ganrdads and uncles also play a vital role in riasing children on the Autism specturm. Men can struggle with social and emotional support whcih is were the Men's Shed program can help.

We have a very exciting show lined up for you this week. Today, Dani is still championing her wonderful abilities and skills with animation. We will also be talking to Dani’s friends, Keaton Bicknell, who is also on the spectrum and has worked on a recent animation short with Dani called ‘The Adventures of Pelican Pete: A Bird is Born’. We also have Rachel Barcellona on the show. Rachel is also on the spectrum and has been a pageant in Florida for the past few years. Adam Ricketts, a friend of Rachel’s, will also be on the show talking all about the short film clip ‘Ability’ that he has worked on with Rachel. This week Jeanette talks all things research with Sylvia Rodger, Director of Research and Education at the Autism Coperative Research Centre (CRC). The CRC is doing a load of valuable research and drawing on the wisdom, experience and expertise of Autistic adults - some of whom are also researchers.
Sylvia Rodger is an occupational therapist with more than 30 years’ experience working in clinical practice and higher educational settings. She was head of occupational therapy at The University of Queensland from 2001-2012. In 2013 she became Director of Research and Education at the Autism CRC, where she oversees the research strategy for the CRC and the educational programs to capacity build PhD scholars, researchers and adults on the spectrum in peer research. She is passionate about enabling the next generation of researchers and ensuring the voices of those on the spectrum are heard in relation to research direction, engagement, and its operationalisation. She is a mother of two adult children and enjoys yoga, pilates, walking, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Tony Attwood is a clinical psychologist who has specialised in autism spectrum disorders since he qualified as a clinical psychologist in England in 1975. He currently works in his own private practice, and is also adjunct professor at Griffith University, Queensland and senior consultant at the Minds and Hearts clinic in Brisbane. His book Asperger’s Syndrome – A Guide for Parents and Professionals has sold over 350,000 copies and has been translated into over 25 languages. His subsequent book, The Complete Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome, was published in October 2006 and is one of the primary textbooks on Asperger’s syndrome. He has several subsequent books published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, Future Horizons Inc. and Guilford Press.
Tony has been invited to be a keynote speaker at many Australasian and International Conferences. He presents workshops and runs training courses for parents, professionals and individuals with Asperger's syndrome all over the world and is a prolific author of scientific papers and books on the subject.
He has worked with many thousands of individuals of all ages with Asperger's syndrome or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Leith McMurray is 68 and was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome 10 years ago. Prior to that she had what she describes as ‘a fairly choppy passage through life, with the typical high abilities and apparent great academic potential twinned with social difficulties and the kind of personality which seemed to irritate many people’. Leith struggled with others’ lack of understanding of her sensory issues, especially sound. Leith’s diagnosis led to her meeting other diagnosed Aspies who had 'a much better understanding than I of what AS is all about'.
In 2010, Leith and fellow advocate Jan Broooking decided to start a peer-support organisation to fill a perceived giant gap in services for Aspies. The organisation, Aspiehelp Christchurch, has been going five years and is becoming more established, with its own office and two part-time staff. Apsiehelp provides information, counselling, advocacy and advice concerning education and employment, plus a wide range of social work services. Leith and Jan see the needs of Aspies particularly as practical issues with sensible solutions which so often are overlooked or avoided by other organisations.

Jeanette will be talking with Emma Dalmayne about some of the sorts of abusive so-called ‘treatments’ which are around claiming to cure Autism. Autistic children have been - and are still being - subjected to abuse in the name of a ‘fix’ for their Autism. Emma Dalmayne is a home educating mother to her two youngest children. Emma has Aspergers and children on the spectrum. She is an autism rights campaigner and writer.

Penny was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome at the age of 14.5 in, in Year 9, in 1997. This July, it’ll be 18 years since Penny’s diagnoses. This week Jeanette will be speaking with Jeff Craig, an epigenetic researcher at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. Jeanette has asked friends and contacts to come up with some questions for Jeff given that genetic research can be a little bit contentious. This show could generate some differences of opinion and robust discussion - often a good thing.
Jeff Craig decribes himself as a researcher at work and in the garden. In his early career, he was locked inside a dark room for a few years studying human chromosomes. Seven years ago he saw the light and started working with human early life cohorts, which made his life much more interesting. He now blames epigenetics for every chronic illness, spouts forth such phrases as "you are what your mother ate" and is just starting to produce evidence to support these ideas. He believes that students, General Practitioners, and the public need to know about his crazy ideas and frequently speaks to them to get feedback to inspire his research. He is also obsessed with twins and thinks that they hold the key to understanding to roots of all human health problems. Jeff's aim is to use the science of 'epigenetics' to detect autisms early and to help understand the causes and mechanisms of autisms.
Join us this week as we speak to Emma Flint and Tom Pittwood from Brain in Hand, providing assistive technology for people on the Autism Spectrum. Emma and Tom will be talking about their "Minecraft Marathon" which takes place every year on World Autism Awareness Day at the University of Exeter to raise funds for Positively Autistic and a number of other national autism charities.

CBP Centers is a multidisciplinary clinic specializing in treating diseases and disorders of the brain and central nervous system. CBP Centers was established as the only clinic in North America with this level of technology in 2014. They work with patients suffering from concussions and tbi, to people needing relief from PTSD and strokes, including conditions like Autism, Aspergers and Cerebral Palsy. As marketing coordinator, Christy has helped connect the clinic with doctors and groups around town such as the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado, Autism Speaks and many more. Christy's goal is to bring awareness to the community of the many complicated brain injuries and disorders people in Colorado Springs are struggling with. Today on the show we will be talking to Gordon Brennan, who is the father of Colin, 12, and on the Autism Spectrum. We will be finding out all about what Colin has been up to and Gordon's work towards becoming the Mayor of Oakville, Ontario, Canada. We would like to hear what Gordon is doing in the community and local area in order to help improve the environment in which people live in around their town. He has already been on the show a few times to talk about some of the things he would like to tackle as the Mayor of Oakville.
On today's episode, Dana interviews Nancy Webster, a mother of eight children "ages 28-12, with a variation on a theme (as I joke) of ASD running throughout." As a homeschool mother, she has explored many different alternative health routes. She will share about the many different health alternatives she has tried and about the product that is helping her most now.
"I think God has used our children's differences to help me turn my interest in alternative health towards helping my children and so therefore, helping many other people," Nancy says.

This week on the show we will be talking to Jez Levinson and Joe Nash. They both run Uniting Friends, which is a charity project helping those with disabilities. It was set up in 1996 as a social inclusion project within the Borough of Essex to support adults with a learning disability to become more independent, more socially included and active in active role in defining and running their own provision. The project has a membership base of over 250 people with up to 85 using the service weekly. It employs over 22 staff and has 10 volunteers that support the project in a variety of ways including administration and service provision. The project actively promotes employment for people with disabilities and directly employs 6 members of staff with a learning disability.
There is also a very important topic we will be talking about regarding autism coming up in the news and matters arising in the world. It’s about educating and reinstating to people that people with autism are not ‘animals who act violently or misbehaved’. We need to show the importance of promoting autism out there, across the world in the community and try to prevent autism in being seen in a bad light, but rather more, letting it be seen in a positive way and the endless potential those on the Autism Spectrum have.

Holy storms. Last week's scheduled broadcast of Junior Positively Autistic: Ryan's Spectrum Talk did not go as planned. About 45 minutes before show time, some strong storms moved into my area I ended up losing power. Unable to access the internet, the podcast ended up going on without me. I even needed to take shelter due to strong winds. So I'm going to try this again. My next broadcast will take place this Wednesday (the new day is only for this week due to the 4th of July holidays landing on Thursday) at 3 pm EST, noon PST, and 8 pm UK time. The topic of the show will be what I intended for last Thursday. I'm going to discuss how people on the spectrum might depend on routine, referencing the sitcom "Big Bang Theory" and my own experience as an aspiring novelist. Also, I will discuss some things parents should keep in mind during the 4th of July Holidays.

Amy is a country musician who writes humrous country songs, and Sam Martinez is a composer of musical pieces, Kelly Green will stop by with chalktalk, and I will be reading a limerick called Moody bio-Initially, Ames and her daughter, Jackie Martinez, started writing zany commercials together, which were later formed into songs. After writing songs and recording, Ames titled her first upbeat effort, You Bug Me, Honey!, which has earned her the crown of “Country Music’s Funniest Woman.” Her second project reflects on her own personal journey, All God's Children Living with Autism, which shares the joys and challenges of raising a child with autism. Her autistic son, Sam, started composing classical music at the age of 10 and is now finishing up his own classical music CD. Joree lost her battle against cancer last week after fighting for more than a year since she was placed in hospice. God received one of his brightly shining angels when he called her home to heaven. Joree's passion for poetry has resulted in work that will live on for a long time, preserving her memory. Debra Hosseini the host of celebrating autism along with Linda Anderson and the publisher of two art books that feature artists on the spectrum. She has devoted her time to fund and manage exibits for talented artists on the spectrum, like her son Kevin. bio- The Art of Autism website features a popular virtual art gallery. Debra and her son Kevin have been featured in two documentaries about art and autism and she has been featured on radio and television shows, including NPR. Debra has written articles for publications and blogs, including Family Circle and The Autism File, and has presented at art associations, universities and autism events across the country. She is the co-host of “Positively Autistic: Celebrate Autism” radio show. Debra is currently on the Board of CHANCE, Inc. – a housing organization that serves disabled people in Santa Barbara, and Eco-Artism, a recycled art nonprofit based in Houston, Texas. Her seventeen-year old son Kevin was recently honored in a VSA Arts Exhibit and his work “Bus or Cycle” hangs at the S.
