Communities Oshkosh North High School
Communities is the product of Richard Leib, Julie Dumke, Brad Weber, and Oliver Schinkten. The program was founded to help students learn content differently than in the traditional classroom. Communities students learn content through real-life application, pairing with local businesses and partners to help solve community problems. Through this podcast the students will be able to continue their outreach and learn through a new media form.

Sonya is one of the world's best endurance mountain bikers. She has built a strong personal brand through social media influence, a prolific podcast, as a professional writer and blogger, speaker, and photographer. She has been a keynote speaker at events all over the world including her TEDx Talk. Through her stories of how she became one of the top adventure female athletes, she brings motivation, positivity, and actionable takeaways to any event. Sonya also has a Top 50 Ranked podcast called The Sonya Looney Show. The show is about how to live better through mindset, plant-based nutrition, and life lessons from inspiring individuals.
Rick Leib, Social Studies teach and one of the founders of Communities ONHS sits down with King Vang (12th grade) and Chloe Barta (11th grade) who are members of the Outdoor Classroom project. The team of 13 students are responsible for designing and creating the first phase of an outdoor classroom for the 20th St. YMCA in Oshkosh. This outdoor classroom will be for the four year old preschool students and other children enrolled at the YMCA.
Rick Leib, Social Studies teacher, and one of Communities ONHS founders, sits down with Oshkosh North High School students -- Noelle Frank and Hailey Engelmann to discuss their Semester of Service project. In this Convo Frank and Engelmann describe their work with senior citizens through a Pen Pals program that focuses on social isolation, especially during COVID.
Welcome back to A Convo with Communities. In our 4th episode, one of Communities ONHS founders, Rick Leib, sits down with Link Crew members Ali Pecore and Kauldon Larson. They discuss their Semester of Service at Oshkosh North High School and what Link Crew does to help underclassmen students.
Rick Leib sits down with Brian Blaha and Eric Shea, the two organizers of the Oshkosh Fire Department Food and toy Drive. In this episode Blaha and Shea detail the dates, times, and routes of the 21st annual event. Although the setup is a little different this year because of COVID regulations, the spirit of the holiday is still alive in this time of giving.
This event was started by members of the Oshkosh Community fire department and has continued giving back to the community in a huge way. Since 2010, they have collected nearly 40,000 pounds of food, over 26,000 toys, and over $19,000. Last year alone, the Salvation Army was able to provide food and gifts to 524 families, all in Oshkosh and the Fox Valley. This drive could not be successful without the unbelievable support of everyone in the community.
