Episode Name: Making Sense of Game Marketing Attribution
Episode Description:Attribution often feels like a black box for indie devs, but ignoring it can cost you time, money, and momentum.
In this episode, we break down what attribution really is, why it matters, and how small teams can start tracking what counts while learning how to avoid misleading metrics, balance data with creative instincts, and make smarter marketing decisions that actually move the needle.
Q?Box Round AnswersWhat advice would you give to someone else that’s just starting out?
Believe in your vision, but make sure you have a solid understanding of the market, audience and strategy from the beginning – this is not a hobby but a business, so to become successful you need to be aware of that at all times. Marketing starts at the beginning, not only when you want to sell your game.
Biggest gaming pet peeve?
In games marketing: Be aware what different strategies and objectives mean, how the complement each other and what the right marketing approaches are. For example, wishlists are not a strategy, they are a metric.

Episode Name:What It Really Takes to Launch a Game Studio
Episode Description:A lot of developers dream of starting their own studio, but the reality is far from glamorous. In this episode, we dive deep with our guest to unpack the overlooked, gritty, and often emotional process of building a studio from scratch. From pitching to production pipelines, they’re going to share what aspiring founders need to prepare for, emotionally and operationally.
Q?Box Round AnswersBiggest gaming pet peeve?
Feature bloat. I love God of War: Ragnarok because despite being a AAA action game, it’s actually really focused on what it’s doing, except for the crafting system. The crafting system is just a store with different currencies specific to quests. Just give me the armor for doing the quest. Crafting it is an extra step that does nothing in the broader context of the game.
What’s the most helpful or impactful advice you ever received?
Talk slowly, especially when meeting new people. A teacher of mine pulled me aside at GDC, gently grabbed my shoulders and said, “Slow down” as I was talking to him. It was weirdly calming, and I respected him enough to internalize it on the spot. If you’re naturally a fast talker like me, you probably need to slow down when talking to new people.
What game are you playing now?
Dark Souls II for probably the 5th time. It’s always been good. Maybe even the best. I also regrettably still play Dota 2 and haven’t stopped in over a decade.

Episode Name:Creating Impactful Production and Collaboration
Episode Description:Having a clearly defined production and collaboration process can make all the difference in how a project progresses. However, it’s not always easy to achieve, and sometimes can feel like a mystery that takes forever to solve.
So today, we’re going to delve into various obstacles related to this, and uncover strategies for overcoming them, discussing everything from effective team building to communication. Through that, we’ll discover how teams can navigate the process effectively and foster creativity that has a positive impact for the project and everyone involved.
Q?Box Round AnswersWhat’s one habit you have that has contributed to your success?
Whenever I enter a new project I try to talk to as many people as possible (or everyone, if possible) ask them about what they do, how they work, what are the usual hurdles they face, see some of the things they’ve done. It gives me insight into the internal dynamics of a project. It also helps to build genuine relationships with the people and that always helps facilitating communication.
What’s your main approach to tackling problems?
Talking to the people facing the problem, understanding the nature of it (sometimes the thing we perceive as a problem is just a symptom of a different issue that needs solving) and tackling it. I sometimes even ask for people to describe a problem to me, as their understanding of it and my understanding of it can be two completely different things.

Q?Box Round AnswersWhat’s your main approach to tackling problems?
There are no problems, there are only solutions’ a former boss of mine used to say. I liked that approach since it makes you look at problems in a more positive way, which limits the emotional load and overhead attached to them. Also, I think problems are great, because they mean business! Entrepreneurs are problem solvers. They listen to what the problem of an audience is, they offer a solution and make money with it. I do my best to approach tackling problems with a positive mindset – don’t let them take over emotionally, just see them as a puzzle to solve. Btw.: I am a climber, and did you know that the routes at the bouldering gym are called “problems”? Solving them is what it’s all about – it’s the fun part!

Q?Box Round AnswersMost influential/inspiring Game?
That’s really tough. Most influential: Granny’s Garden. Most inspiring: Skyrim. Ask about Granny’s Garden if you like!
What’s the most common mistake you see companies make in the industry with their businesses?
maybe growing fast and hiring too many people off the back of one funding round or successful title. Another is jumping at the first deal on the table and not shopping around (although I appreciate it may not seem people have the luxury of that)
What game are you playing now?
I have mainly been testing Regency Solitaire II! I’ve just managed to try out Balatro in the past few days, on PC, which is great. And in the evenings we like to play console games together – at the moment we’re playing Outer Worlds, an RPG set in space.

Q?Box Round AnswersWhat’s your main approach to tackling problems?
Almost like a child asking “why?” 5 times over. Sometimes a problem might have an obvious solution when seen on a surface level, but that’s like treating a symptom and not the disease. Always dig deeper, and ask more questions, and look at the problem from different perspectives.
What’s one habit you do to keep a clear and healthy mind?
Haha i dont think i do. what keeps my head above water I suppose is that keeping in mind that good things and bad things come in waves. the pendulum will swing, so if I’m having a tough time now, it will pass. keep pushing that needle no matter how small.

Episode Name:Aligning Your Marketing and Game’s UX
Episode Description:Whenever we think about what makes a great game, generally speaking it boils down to the positive experience players have. However, when making games, the focus shouldn’t be making a great game, but making the right game for a particular audience and delivering more value than what’s currently available. But even with this shift in mindset, studios and developers can still struggle with how to communicate their game’s experience to prospective players.
Thankfully, our guest shares UX design concepts and frameworks that can be translated into marketing efforts that clearly communicate a game’s vision and experience to prospective players, making this a cohesive and holistic approach that fully caters to the player’s journey and aligns marketing with UX.

Unskippable story/cutscenes and bad tutorials that aren’t like the actual gameplay
