Rewriting the Code is a non-profit organization that empowers college, graduate and early career women to become the next generation of engineers and leaders in the technology industry. Lounge is a podcast series where we interview trailblazers in the tech industry! Led by RTC student leaders, Elizabeth Song, Bhuvni Shah, Alexandra Lai, and Crislana Rafael, they will ask questions that get to the heart of what the guest does for a living, the skills they use, how they got there, and advice on how you could get there too!

Naomi discusses what UX research entails, how to prepare for a career in UX research and design, how to craft a portfolio to showcase your work to employers, and her journey pivoting from software engineering and product management to a career as a UX researcher at Groupon.
In this episode, we sit down with Jas Brooks, PhD student and graduate research assistant at University of Chicago's Human Computer Integration Lab. Jas provides great insights into how to succeed in your next internship and how to navigate graduate studies. Jas' research explores how chemical interfaces can intervene in the rich interactions of everyday life, such as smelling and eating and outlines their latest project - a device that electrically stimulates the nose to produce stereo-smell sensations.
RTC Lounge sits down with Mayuko Inoue, a senior iOS Software Engineer and Youtube content creator to discuss her early career trajectory, pivoting towards creating her Youtube channel of over 500k subscribers, and advice to early career students on how to build a career that fits you.
Bethany Bongiorno
CEO, Humane Inc.
Bethany led the teams behind some of Apple's most transformational products. As a Director of Software Engineering, she was responsible for all software project management for iOS and macOS and also played a key leadership role in the execution of critical projects such as the launch of the original iPad. Prior to her time at Apple, Bethany studied physics, worked in astrophysics research, and was a data management and software development consultant. Bethany is passionate about building and leading high performing teams to solve complex problems.
Jackie Frechette
Lead HW Program Manager, Humane Inc.
Jackie has an extensive background in hardware focused program management. During her 13 years at Apple, she built a program management organization supporting the iPhone Product Design team and Interconnect Design team, which supported a variety of products across Apple. She directly contributed to developing and successfully launching iPhone 4 and 17 subsequent iPhone models, as well as the bring up of the first ever OLED display panel in an iPhone. Beyond iPhone, Jackie also drove major company-wide initiatives, one of which was to develop a web-based build matrix tool that has since been implemented across all product teams at Apple. Jackie is passionate about building and growing teams focused on high quality product development.
