This makes me think of Romans 12:4 "... we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function."
And what a mark of our maker. How sweet that even the most intimate details of our lives, like a microscopic snowflake are important to God.

But ultimately in this advent season as we expectantly hope and wait for our Lord to come again, we are met with the reality of our personal struggles with sin. So for today let’s remember God’s promise despite our seemligly hopeless state:

Like the feeling of being warm and welcomed in my moms home starts from the moment you enter but it’s how she moves from person to person making sure everyone is taken care of, or how she somehow cleans a kitchen without anyone noticing because everyone is so relaxed. Or how she’s quick to drop everything to take a phone call from me - that's hospitality from a distance. And I think this has been learned, because it’s in her bones to be a busy bee, but she has worked hard to see people how God sees them, full of intrinsic value in the image of God and full of purpose and importance. So that’s your challenge today my gals, seek to host people like Jesus would. And don’t forget the most important part and initial start and that’s inviting them in.

Today we're lighting the pink candle, a symbol of the divine joy that transcends our worldly worries. We're revisiting the enlightening episode, "Joy Begets Joy," reflecting on God's blessings that often go unnoticed. Also today's big question is a fun one - what's your favorite animated kids' movie?
And as for the concept of Joy, I love how the gospel coalition describes this when they said “God designed our hearts to desire what he desires. We were made to find joy in what he finds joy in, be disgusted by what he’s disgusted by, be saddened by what grieves him, be angered by what angers him, and fear the things he identifies as threatening. In other words, our desires—and the emotions expressed by them—worship God as they imitate his.”
And I think of the psalm that talks about For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. (Psalm 30:5)
But for today I really want to share my life verse because I think that part of joy can only be unlocked through the desperate realization of our condition and the painful walking through the storms of life. And I was met with this beautiful scripture in my darkest days following our miscarriage and some pretty ugly moments with God where I discarded and began to reconstruct my faith and so our devo for today is Lamentations 3:22-23 and that’s "Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

December is the busiest and quickest month of the year, and on top of that Christopher went out of town for one week of it (but to give him immense credit he took a redeye so he could be there for bedtime and flew home as quickly as he could, sweet man!)
And Christopher and I do prioritize date nights - making sure to not miss a week without having precious babysitter time and because of that we actually have a line item on our budget for babysitters, but so for today I wanted to talk with you about holiday date nights because in my opinion they are among the best time of the year for date nights (maybe behind summer date nights? Up for debate)
And I had an old boss encourage me to prioritize my marriage among a season of lots of work travel because he felt passionately that if you weren’t growing closer together you are growing apart and you can set up as much boundaries and fail-safes but if you rely too much on those then you will all of a sudden pick your head up and not even recognize who you’re married to. So in this season of busyness be sure to not lose sight of the people in your life versus the things you do or have.
So our motivation for that comes from Mark, but I believe this is quoted in other parts of the Bible but it’s from mark 10:6-9 and it it says: But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,and the two will become one flesh.’So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

So today I am going to sit in this gratitude of all the blessings that are in front of me and I’ll ask that y’all seek to be present and live in gratitude for the present moment, acknowledging God's abundant blessings in your life too. Calling all "bad texters"!!! For so so long I've felt almost shame around my inability to stay up on texts, but it took getting to my 30s to realize that maybe I just don't like that form of communication and maybe I've just consciously prioritized relationships of the people right in front of me.

My brain is hardwired for logistics, planning, and packing! This was a super simple episode for me to (lol) plan for and produce because its so deep in my soul to want to make things efficient and be prepared.

Let's work through this together because this is definitely a WIP-life-documentation-stream-of-conciousness-chit-chat.
What a weighty topic and I do my best to squish it into 20 mins. Don't mix my speedy descriptions with light-heartedness! I am fully feeling the charge as these three girls' mama to make them strong women who know the Lord and love Him fully.
Here's the summary of my notes for this episode...
What is important to teach my girls about God:
Faith (and allowing for doubts and questions)
forgiveness (of others and yourself - or in another word, grace)
life (how to live in the daily and be independent)
love (using Jesus as the example. Friendship love, sacrificial love, and romantic love)
eternity (this life on earth is not the end of our story)

What are we even supposed to do with self-care? Society tells us as moms that we are supposed to prioritize ourself and YOLO and get those moms-night-out... and with almost everything in life needing balance, I hope you hear my heart today that I fully acknowledge that we are a generation that is BURNT-OUT. But also we are strong, resilient Bad-A mothers who can do this, we have been called for this!

Want the biggest diet secret? You're not eating enough vegetables! Ash has quickly become our family's moral compass to what's "good" and "bad" to eat, but she's quick to talk through balance and how we don't eat enough veggies.
And, she's wildly Type A so the way she personally organizes her family's meal plan is intense (in a good way). She brings some good tips forward to how to be intentional with eating and how to eat "better" easier!

We all need this kick in the butt sometimes. I pride myself on looking for the best in every situation but then I became a parent.
Parenting is rough and tough and really taxing on your mental state. But we are called to speak positively over our kids. They are precious and formable and our goal as parents is to work towards them being full-functioning humans that are independent and capable of self-awareness and have the ability to love others and think independently.
But love others we must learn to love ourselves too. So speak positively over yourselves and watch it pour into your kids. Also, let's talk about that over on instagram because Lord knows I need the encouragement too (@everymomneedsafriend).

Sickness in kiddos is the worst! But sickness that continually gets worse and you have to make the judgement call of when to take them to the hospital... that's worser.
I have my BFFL Kailyn on the pod today to discuss how she's spent too many times in the hospital for RSV with her infants. She breaks down when she decided to go, what she was told to look for, and what they had to do while in the hospital.
Take it from me, I wasn't even there and it felt really scary. Lots of unknowns and steps to RSV and I know from experience it is really hard to make that judgment call of when to go in. At the end of the day be sure to use the doctor line at your pediatrician and always go in if you're concerned! And know that I just paused to blanket pray for you and your family in this time of holidays and praying a hedge of protection from sickness for y'all!

My gal pal Rach is on the pod today! How dang fun to have people in your life that just make you better as a person and are so multi-faceted that you just love to peel back the layers and learn more about them and from them. The pod is called Every Mom Needs a Friend, and I really think every mom does need a friend like Rachel.
But to be clear here, we could've talked about a hundred things we love to do and share together but one of the ways we crossed over in our friendship is a love of bread and really just enjoying all types of food in general. And Rachel was the one that taught me to make sourdough, broke off her starter, and answered my multiple FaceTime calls as I worked through some flops and some really pretty outcomes.
If you've never made sourdough bread, let this inspire you! I am not a natural in the kitchen and this seemed intimidating at first.. but not anymore! I've since been able to bless others with breaking off my starter and teaching them and there's not many things more satisfying than slicing hot bread straight from the oven and smothering it in butter and cheers-ing your cutie hubby or your fun dinner guest. And this a great hostess gift, too! Economical for your wallet and an intentional way to bless others.
Okay, I truly could go on about how breaking bread with others is literally straight from the Bible.. NBD just doing the Lord's work out here!

Yahoo for this episode! Today I brought back my SIL Katy because she’s a great person to talk to about my upcoming scheduled c-section with baby plant!
But while I was planning up this episode I felt like it would be a nice pairing to bring up this topic of body love - where society and media wrongfully tells us to place a lot of importance on on pants size instead of the importance of being healthy. Especially in this season of life, I truly am not devoid of this pressure to bounce back after having a baby. And I’ve had times in my life where being lean and strong was easy and times where I did not have any confidence in my body.
And then for the C-Section half of today's episode... Do y’all think it’s as wild as it is to me that I won’t have the waiting game that so often accompanies having a baby? I have to say the "type A" part of me really loves the ability to plan this and be able to just focus on the joy that’ll come as I hold my sweet baby girl in about 2 months!

This episode is two things… it’s a catch up and reminiscing of two friends who once did life daily together, but who now live far apart, but it’s also this story of how strong Camille is to move several times in her marriage and through those moves figure out that her little family, her husband, and her extended family are the roots and grounding for her life.
And I’d say that being away taught her to be okay with missing things, but also gave her a huge appreciation for support and she has learned the skill of soaking in the time that you do get with your people.
And one thing that I deeply love is watching my friends thrive. And sometimes you get the benefit of proximity wise getting a front row view of this but sometimes your life (slash hubby) move you to seattle so you learn to still love watching your friends thrive, but just at a little bit of a distance.
And it is a joy to know Camille and to watch her grow and it was never a shock that she’d be a great mom because we’ve all called her the baby whisperer, but it goes so much deeper than that. Camille has always been a solid friend but to see how the Lord is refining and growing her is such a joy. So like I said, she’s always been a good mom and wife, but to see her become this entrepreneur and be able to handle twins and move is a whole new level.
And what I’d say about Camile is she is generous with her emotions, she’s generous with caring for people and with loving all sides of a person. She’s not short on grace and getting to be one of her friends is such a treat because you truly feel like you are deeply loved and seen when you are with her.

Today's episode is my big take aways from a book that Christopher and I just read through, "After Doubt" by AJ Swoboda. And I need y’all to buckle up for today’s episode!
This was requested by a friend from NH, and it couldn’t have come at a better time… I go into this about how Christopher and I have been walking through some really tough questions this year and we do not know what to do with unanswered questions. And ultimately our goal today and should be always is, "how can you doubt with intention to fully grow closer to Christ?".
But here’s what I know to be true, y'all. That you and I are supremely loved by God in a way that we don’t deserve and can’t return. I know that you and I are individually made and have purpose and are important. Don't underestimate the smallest of baby steps towards looking more like Jesus, because this fully delights God.
And I’ll leave you with my absolute favorite verse that is and will forever be my life verse from Lamentations 3:22-23: "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

Hey yall, Happy season 2! Happy Summer - hope it's treated you well! I just can’t tell you how happy I am to be back recording for this new season of EMNAF! If you haven't gotten a chance to listen to last season, it'll always be there, but if this is your first episode, let me catch you up... Hi, I’m Anna, wife to Christopher, mom to Ellie, Kate and currently growing our third baby in my belly (baby Plant, IYKYK)... who is set to arrive October 1st! In my fun 8, almost 9 years of marriage we’ve moved 4 times and are currently still settling into our 5th city together here in Seattle, Washington!
And my hope was and still is to this day that I can create respite for women, especially moms. Moms are probably always surrounded by people, but can be some of the loneliest people in need of a friend. At least I can speak for myself that for an extrovert who always finds my way to groups of people, I have had some of the loneliest and darkest times - I mean truly I didn’t know it was possible to be so well connected but still feel lonely.
You could say this is a mix of my own fault as I have happily and willingly have said many "yes’s" to my husband's growing career that has lead us around the country. But let's do some truth talk here... this is also because I feel like in our current environment of being connected always through a phone, this (surprisingly) just really didn’t aid in shortening this lonely cycle that enviably happens to all of us at some point. So through moving and getting all my comfort zones stripped away time and time again, I came to know how powerful a playdate was with other moms and her kids… that a coordinated 2 hours of a playdate (aka 20 minutes of combined conversation with the other mom), made me feel seen and heard.
So I felt like there’s no better time than the present for me to create this space to mimic that feeling - that bite sized part of a moms day that they reenergize through connection… so that’s what my hope is here! And to be honest, this is just too dang much fun to do… and I’m glad and excited that I’ve done this for the past year and I’m pumped to see what this next year holds. My 4th and final Sister-in-Law is on the podcast today! Lily has gone through so many super cool and inspiring things in the last couple years, from getting married to her high school sweetheart in the first couple months of COVID, to moving 3 times in the last 2 years, to being pregnant with her first baby - it's fun to hear her storytell us through all of that! She's so easy and adorable and loves Connor (who is Christopher's brother) more than anything. And she came out to Seattle to be with me and help me while Christopher was gone a whole 8 days (funny enough on a work trip with his brother, Lily's hubby, Connor)! And I feel like we non-stop talked for 6 days... so I had to get out the mic to record! Love you so much Lil, and so excited to be pregnant together!
Hey hey!! Today’s episode is more of a “this is what I’ve found” or a “learn from my mistakes” episode… and this was born out of a place that I just feel like I have had so times in my life where I am improperly prioritizing things and giving my whole heart and energy to things that aren’t life giving. And over my last almost 9 years of marriage I can say I’ve had times where certain things sucked me dry, leaving the bank really empty for the people and things that should be more important. And just to cut myself some slack, the amount of moves and transitions I've had in the last 4 years, go Anna! But honestly y'all, I've really had no choice but to reflect on where I’m expending my energy units. And so today I dive into my current assessment of how I break up my day and how I place guardrails around certain things that are super important to me and Christopher. Get to know my friend Mal! She definitely has some things that are her I would say bread and butter - like thinking outside the box, running a company, being on top of it, being a great partner to her hubby Luke... and then on the other side she has a tiny few, but some things that she’s taken a crash course in the last couple months - and that’s being a mom!
She even admits that it wasn’t her "goal" to be a mom and definitely not a stay at home mom, but it was sweet to talk through her reframing of being a mom, and being home for an extended period of time (which she counts as a blessing). It's unique to hear insight from someone who is a proponent for both sides of the coin - both staying at home and working.
I couldn’t be more proud to call her a friend and I cite this in the meat of the episode but Mallory is one of those people who goes nose to nose with me on what I call truth-talk… where because society/christian women society places an importance of being the perfect mom… it is an absolute breath of fresh air to get to speak openly with someone who tells it how it is, not just in a let’s compete on who’s more the victim, but just all the good and bad ways. I always say - the hard stuff is going to be there, it’s your choice on whether you’re going to talk about it.

Okay this is fun because this is part two of the Adam and Ashleigh interview and I’m really really excited for it to drop today! If you haven’t listened to part one, go back and listen! But for today's episode I was absolutely unable to shorten it in the slightest because every nugget of detail was so rich with truth and just so dang good!
From Ash taking about them being in the 1% to Adam talking about how infertility affects all aspects of a marriage. And I love how Ashleigh talks about things she learned through the adoption process and how she changed some intentionality between the two adoptions.

As the wise Ben Rector once said, "You Can't Make Old Friends." And this rang true over and over when I moved away from Louisville, my hometown, and my huge friend group of 8 couples. Kailyn and I met well before then, though! When we were just 11, I had a "love at first sight" moment when I spotted Kailyn across my 6th grade classroom. And the rest is history! Buckle up, friends! Because pregnancy loss is a part of my story, I definitely wanted to share it, but today was a "note-less" recording session... I really didn't have a direction I was going to take in preparing for today's episode. What you'll hear is a broken mom who almost denounced her faith when she went through the darkest period of her life. You'll hear a woman who was redeemed before she even went through the miscarriage because of great love.
