Events in the Old Testament underscore the profound relationship between God and His people, emphasizing His presence, majesty, and holiness. But you know what happened; as time passes the new generations forgot and as often happens even today, they want to do things their own way, even though they have God’s commands and laws they became unfaithful and greedy. They began to worship other gods, and doing evil in the eyes of the Lord. The book of Romans is more than a theological explanation of God’s redeeming grace; it is a letter of comfort and confidence addressed to us. We learn there that God overcomes the powers of sin and death through God’s self-giving love.38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Let us always remember, that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God and while we can be confident of our salvation, we still look ahead with hope and trust toward that complete change of body and personality that lies beyond this life, when we will be like Christ. The law of sin and death refers to the Mosaic Law. The law revealed God’s standard, it revealed our shortcomings, it revealed the consequences of falling short, and it even revealed our innate proclivity or inclination to reject God and defy His standard. The law's purpose was to expose our moral failure and lead us to Christ, who fulfilled its requirements and offered life through His sacrifice. We all face challenges and burdens in life, they can feel overwhelming. These feelings of weight are not uncommon as we navigate through our daily lives. When we talk about putting our burdens on God, it means acknowledging that we cannot carry them alone, and realizing that we don’t have to.When our burdens cause us to stop thanking God, it often reflects a heart that has forgotten His goodness, a heart that is taking His gifts for granted, or a heart that is resisting His helpThe same Lord who parted seas, toppled Jericho’s walls, and raised His Son from the grave still works mightily today. Keep your eyes open, your heart grateful, and your lips ready; the world needs to hear that you have seen what the Lord can do. How often have you heard this sentence: "I have some good news and some bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”God, too, has good and bad news for us. We are eager to hear the good news, but shudder at the idea of hearing bad news. No one can promise you that your life will be pleasant, comfortable, free from stress and from aches and pains all the way through. No one can guarantee that your life will be happy, successful or that it will fulfill your dreams. There is an inherent risk in simply being born and living.With all that Jeremiah 20:13 tells us to praise the Lord: 13 Sing to the Lord! Praise the Lord! For though I was poor and needy, he rescued me from my oppressors”. This isn’t just about physical salvation from danger, but also the spiritual deliverance from sin, despair, and hopelessness. I’ve often heard the phrase: life is complicated, and of course, it can be, at work, at your community, often it’s a competition to win, it’s testing our belief, it’s living on the edge. We compete about who has the best idea, who has the best answer, who has the best solution at the table in a meeting. But then there’s Jesus, his reason to come to earth was for us to let go of all the worries of the world and put our trust in God alone. Hosea was a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel during the 8th century BC. He was the last great prophet that God sent to the northern Kingdom of Israel before they were destroyed and exiled by Assyria. In chapter 5 we hear a tone of exasperation and desperation. Even God seems to look at humankind and ask Himself, "What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? Your love for me is as short-lived as the dew on the morning grass.God is saying: You refuse to acknowledge your sin and do not come to me for forgiveness. You make a pretense of having religion by offering sacrifices. The psalm is a hymn of praise that reflects on the grandeur of creation and the insignificance of humanity in comparison to God's glory. The greatness of God assures the worth of mankind. God, the all -powerful Creator, cares for his most valuable creation: people, Us!People in the Old Testament, worshipped the Lord in an open field, surrounded by nature, with birds singing, during the warm breeze of the day. The word “Pentecost” comes from a Greek word meaning “fiftieth.” It appeared first during a Jewish festival called the Feast of Weeks, or Shavuot. Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Christian Church.” Before this day, Jesus’ followers were hiding, scared after Jesus’ crucifixion. As they were gathered and prayed, on the day of Pentecost, “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven. The new Christians Peter wrote to had been surprised by having to face persecution for their faith. These Christians Peter wrote to were Gentiles and they were shocked, because they became Christians just in time to be persecuted. Into this Peter breaks the news that persecution is ordinary for Christians. Jesus said that if they persecuted him, they'll persecute his followers. Peter knew he needed to admonish; he needed to encourage that even in suffering they should keep firm in their faith in the Lord God. These were the last words of the apostle Stephen just before he died.In ancient times, many middle eastern religions employed rock piles as altars, but none as prolific as the Semitic faiths. Homes and Jewish gathering spaces built in Capernaum too, were made of small blackish stones of basalt. We are God-made, not crafted by human hand, but designed by our World-Maker God and blessed by His holy touch. Today I’d like to take you with me to look at a 4th admonition and that is looking at Christian behavior while we walk this world as temporary sojourners in this world. I know many of you have family members who don’t know Jesus yet, and if you’re honest, it sits heavy on your heart. I want to speak into that place right now and bring you peace. Because their salvation is not resting on your shoulders. It never was. Jesus already paid for them. The cross included them. Every sin, every mistake, every moment that feels like it’s keeping them far has already been dealt with. Which means Jesus does not desire half-hearted discipleship. Following Jesus must be all or nothing. He wants us to be all in. Not 50 %, not 95%, but 100 percent. He desires all there is of us. Body and soul. Heart and mind. Peter told us, we are to be set apart, for we are different, not blending in with the crowd, yet we’re not to be different just for the sake of being different. God’s qualities in our lives makes us different. We must admit that we all desperately need the gift of holiness, a holiness that we cannot manufacture or attain for ourselves. We cannot become holy on our own, but God has given us his Holy Spirit to help us obey and He gives us power to overcome sin. At the same time, we should fear His discipline and therefore seek to live our lives in a way that pleases Him. Reverence ought to be evident in the way believers conduct themselves in God's presence. God is present in your Suffering – 1 Peter 1:3-9Jesus is risen! Indeed, he is Risen, Alleluia! and we shout it with joy. After encountering this reality, how do you feel? During Jesus’ trial Peter denied knowing Jesus. Soon after Jesus died and rose again, Peter repented and became a great apostle and preacher. Nearly everywhere, when I talk to people some are troubled because they do not know that they are secure. They think that because of their sins, their negligence, their failing to endure to the end, or that for some other reason, they may lose their salvation.Many do not realize that God has determined that all who repent and believe in Him have everlasting life and will go to Heaven when they die.When we believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, the Holy Spirit immediately enters our lives. The cross represents the ultimate sacrifice, offering hope and forgiveness for humanity's sins, and is a reminder of God's love and grace.No one took Jesus’ life from Him. God had given him a specific task. That task was to lay down his life on behalf of the world.We’ve arrived at Easter Sunday. Throughout the world the light is back, no more darkness. Churches are filled with Christians shouting back and forth “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” Christ rolled the tombstone away from people's lives to let them be free. The Bible teaches that we Christians are not immune to suffering. Instead, it emphasizes that trials and tribulations are part of the process of sanctification and are designed to enable believers to grow into the image of Christ. The message for us, if we believe in Him, is thisThrough Jesus, we are justified, which means He set us into a right relationship with God. As Paul puts it, we have "access to this grace." The Christian church began the season of Lent last Wednesday on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a 40-day period of penitential preparation for Easter, involving fasting, abstinence, and almsgiving.Someone who spent time on the space station said this: From orbit, that Earth doesn’t look like a collection of countries, borders, or competing interests. As we live our lives of faith, we may be surrounded by a large crowd or a small group of trusted companions. Whatever the size of our community, we are born with a need to walk this road of life with fellow travelers. We need to “go with” others on the path we have been set upon by what we had learned. Why is it so difficult to have true contentment? It’s difficult to have true contentment due to several factors. One might be our mindset and our behavior, which can often lead us to feel unfulfilled despite our achievements. Another could be the constant reminders (the marketing) of things we are missing out on, which can hinder our ability to find contentment. But then when is enough… enough? There is a difference between what we need and what we want. Paul probably wrote this letter during the year 60 A.D. while he was under house arrest. Onesimus was a domestic slave who belonged to Philemon, a wealthy man and a member of the church in Colosse. Onesimus had run away from Philemon and had made his way to Rome, where he met Paul, who apparently led him to Christ. Fear of God and knowledge of sin is essential, but that is not the essence of repentance. Repentance is not remorse. It is not just enough to be broken. It is not just enough to be contrite. It is not just enough to turn over a new leaf to mess up a clean page. True repentance is revealed by changing our actions. Repentance it is more than turning over our lives. It is more than just feeling sorry for our sins. Repentance means to change the direction of our lives completely. It means to stop walking toward selfishness or self-centeredness or a life that is centered upon what the self desires. It means to make a 180-degree turn, to start walking toward God, toward his vision, toward His aim and goals for our lives. In Josiah’s day, boys were considered men at age of 12, by 16 Josiah understood the responsibility of his office. He showed greater wisdom than many of the older kings who came before him, because he had decided to seek the Lord God and his wisdom. Jeremiah was called by God to be a prophet to Judah, a job he held for the next 70 years until their return from captivity in Babylon. He lived through the period of the disintegration of the kingdom, witnessed the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, and spent the remaining years of his life in Egypt. We need to realize that God has a purpose for each Christian, but some people are appointed by God for specific kinds of work and whatever work He has appointed you to do should be done for the glory of God. And if you are still wondering what that work is, then seek to fulfill the mission common to all believers: to love, to obey, and to serve God, until his guidance or your life becomes clear. In Isaiah 12:1-6 we find a message of joy. If we compare Isaiah 12, this song of Joy, with Psalm 30 where we find a psalm of trust and then if we compare those songs to John the Baptist's message, we realize that to have JOY, that profound abundant JOY that only comes from God, we come to realize that it all starts with repentance. For us to follow Jesus means more than saying the right words; it means acting on what he says. Many of John the Baptist's hearers were shocked when he said that being Abraham’s descendants was not enough to ensure salvation. In today’s world, in our world that means that we cannot rely on someone else’s faith for our salvation. Have you ever been so thirsty that even the thought of a cup of water seemed like paradise? The Bible Story about Philip and the eunuch is an example that transcends time and space, ethnicities, races, gender, skin color, and all the other “differences” we tend to put up as barriers, creating “us” versus “them” scenarios. It breaks down the barriers we put up to shield ourselves from differences. God gave us a rule book. It’s called the Bible. God gave us a command that is the first of all commands. They took palm branches and ran out to meet Jesus. After all, this was the traditional way of greeting a conquering king. Waving palm branches was a visual and spectacular way to give him thanks and praise. But why were they there? Why did so many people come out to see Jesus come into Jerusalem? What were they expecting? Then this day became a historical event that we commemorate year after year. Why? When we follow a leader what’s on our minds? Do we follow for the right reason? I have to wonder, what is it in human nature that makes us turn away from God? – Sin and rebellion come to mind, then Ignoring God, self-deception, self-deceit, disobeying, and worldly influences. In the realm of human nature, these are some of the common factors that can lead individuals to turn away from God. If you look at the Old Testament, you will find covenant after covenant broken. Joshua, Judges, 1st and 2nd Samuel, and 1st and 2nd Kings are full of stories of the people collectively and individually breaking their covenant with God. So, what's the answer? Many times, people try to protect themselves from their fears by putting their faith in something or other. But in John 3 we learn that only God can save us from the one thing that we really need to fear and that is eternal condemnation. We need to believe in God by recognizing the insufficiency of our own efforts to find salvation, and by asking Him to do his work in us. After all, when Jesus talks about unbelievers. He means those who reject or ignore him completely. He’s not talking about those who have momentary doubts. It’s a simple statement, if there’s no law, you can’t break it, if there is, you will. And so we are asked to place all our faith in God. Dirt is usually something unclean, especially when it’s in contact with a person's clothes, skin, or possessions and almost nobody wants to be seen with dirt on their cloths, or you run the risk of being called dirty. Now consider this: when we are covered with sin, we are dirty. Even if we don’t want to admit it. So what do we do about this? It's Paul who reminds us that while we may feel we're at the end of our rope, we are really never at the end of our hope. After all, our perishable bodies are subject to sin and suffering, but God never abandons us. In this letter Paul condemned those who twist God’s Word, be they preachers, teachers, and anyone else who talks about Jesus Christ. If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who don’t want to believe. We need to remember that all of us ultimately stand in God’s presence, and He hears every word we speak. Remember, Saul had that conversion experience on the road to Damascus? He actually saw, talked and was in the presence of the resurrected Christ, who declared him to be an apostle. Shortly after Saul traveled back to Jerusalem and changed his name to Paul, but the first thing he did was tell his story, we would say give his testimony. He didn't wait until he was fully educated with a diploma in hand to start his ministry. He started then and there. Paul agreed that food offered to idols was not contaminated, but he wanted to be sure that the “knowledgeable Christians” would not flaunt their enlightened point of view. Let me put it this way: “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.”Paul recognised this as a crisis in the church and highlights that charity for one another is the way great and powerful congregations are built. It is also the way we as individuals become more than private disciples because this doesn’t happen in conflict, nor in challenging others, nor in ministering mostly to ourselves. I was recently reading 2nd Chronicles 24 and 2 kings 13 and there you can find several kings who reigned in Israel and Judea between 840 BC to 760 BC. Those Kings were Jehoiada, Joash, Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash. There seemed to be a pattern there. These kings for the most part started out doing well. Eating with Urgency – Exodus 12:1-14Passover was a holiday designed to celebrate Israel’s deliverance from Egypt and to remind the people of what God had done.In killing the lamb, the Israelites shed innocent blood. From this point on, the Hebrew people would clearly understand that for them to be spared from death, an innocent life had to be sacrificed in their place. And so, in a sense the first Passover resembles Jesus’ Last Supper. For us as Christians, the occasion of the Passover meal naturally reminds us of Jesus' Last Supper. This week we're following Moses as he encounters a burning bush. Moses fled Egypt when he was about 40 years old... Moses eventually lands in Midian where he settles down as son-in-law to a priest named Jethro, he was married and had two sons and he began a new career as a shepherd… this lasted another 40 years. By the time Moses met that burning bush he must have been about 80 years old. At this point Moses had spent half of his life as a prince and half of his life as a shepherd. How and why does jealousy start? - Jealousy falls under the tenth commandment to not covet. Jealousy is the noun that relates to the state of being jealous: “feeling resentment against someone because of that person's rivalry, success, or advantages.
While it may seem trivial to be worried about an emotion like jealousy, it often leads people to act out in ways that are harmful to themselves or others. Understanding what jealousy is, and recognizing it, can help shape the way believers respond to it, and thereby strengthening their walk with God.

What is your Name? - Genesis 32:22-31 In this passage Jacob is on his way to try to be reconciled with Esau. One of the hardest things for people to do is to reconcile with each other, whether trivial molehills, or serous mountains have torn them apart. Far too often, either one side or both, will try to keep the upper hand over the other. In all our relations with each other, humility is needed, humility is essential; because even on those rare days when we might not be in the “wrong”, we are still in need of the same loving mercy that only comes through submitting ourselves to Christ.

Esau swore an oath, thereby selling all his rights as the firstborn to his brother, Jacob. Genesis 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew. Esau ate the meal, then got up and left”. … So, what is the lesson here? … Well, we can easily fall into the same trap, when we see something, we want, our first impulse seems to always be… to get it… and get it NOW! You might call this freedom of will… but, that is not necessarily God’s will. At first, we feel intensely satisfied and sometimes even powerful because we have obtained what we set out to get… But here regret might set in quickly, because: as it says: immediate pleasure often loses sight of the future…

God’s will in a marriage - Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-61 Seeking God’s will and trusting His timing is always best. For those out there searching for a spouse, like Abraham for his son Isaac, we need to have God as part of the equation… as part of the dating process… we need to place our faith in Him along with waiting, praying, and obeying and you know something… from personal experience… it’s all worth it.

I had to wonder this week: Is God testing us right now? Did He test us 20 years ago, or three years ago or is He testing us with Covid? And then: was the test for me? Or for the world? And finally: how did we do? Then comes the realization: God is testing us, not to trip us up, but to deepen our capacity to obey Him.

A Triumphal entry: God’s Way - Matthew 21:1-16Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Jesus’ entry reflects the roman practice of welcoming a king or general. A crowd hails Jesus as king. They spread cloaks on the ground and wave branches. They chant Psalm 118:25 which praises God for victory over the nations. Yet there are significant differences. Jesus rides not a war horse but an everyday beast of burden, a donkey. Crowds of common folks welcome him. There were no speeches of welcome from the leaders of Jerusalem. Jesus does not portray a high-class figure. He is not authorized by the dominant ruling power. In today's Scripture the disciples comment on the magnificence of the temple in Jerusalem. In total that building project lasted around 83 years. Apparently only the best available materials were used. Gold plating everywhere, huge marble slabs, intricate design work. I'd love to have seen what that looked like, don't you? But all that description and detail about the temple in Luke only served to highlight those two minims a widow dropped in the offering box. And then there's Zacchaeus, did you notice Jesus "looked up" at him, said: "come down" and finally Zacchaeus "stood before" the Lord? I thought that really taught me something.

Where is your Attitude? - Jeremiah 31:27-34 Did you know, that God promises to write His law on the hearts of the people. This It offers all of us a unique personal relationship with God himself, with His laws written on individual’s hearts instead of on stone as in the old covenant. To take the covenant and have it inscribed on your heart represents an act of willing acceptance rather than an imposition. All this requires that we check our attitudes.

One thing that stood out for me in this passage (among other things) was that there's indication of an argument going on between two believers. Paul is pushing for them to resolve their differences. There's a sense of urgency in this. After all, if they are both listed in The Book of Life. We need to consider, if we have an argument with someone who is also a believer...we will be spending a long time together with them in eternity. Better to find reconciliation sooner rather than too late.

Hope And Dignity - Philemon 1-21 Have you ever watched yourself when you received a letter? OK, so admittedly some of us don’t receive letters anymore, it’s all digital… but for those of us who do receive letters, how do you react, what do you do? Especially a handwritten letter. What comes to mind first? Well, here’s what I most often do: first I check who sent it. Then I check if it really is addressed to me. Then I open it and quickly scroll through the content, just to catch a phrase or key words, that give me a clue, of what the content of the letter might be about. But, every once in a while, when I actually read such a letter carefully and in detail, I find that it contains a different story than I first assumed when I scanned it. I wonder how Philemon felt when he received his letter?

I’ve found that hospitality doesn't always need to be as extravagant as a gourmet meal. Don't Refuse To Listen - Hebrews 12:18-29 Today's message is really all about listening. In particular as I focus on Hebrews 12:25 where it says: 25 Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. That sounds like a warning if I’ve ever heard one. Of course if you look closely, you can see, that when you shorten "don't refuse to listen" and take out the implied double negative, you get: "LISTEN!" and grammatically it seems to be in the imperative!

A few days ago we looked up and took in the immensity of the sky, then when you look down and you see what is in front of you, when you see a beautiful view, a cliff with a green carpet full of trees, and the river beneath, the lake in the distance, a bridge crossing the river. That moment became a time stop, to pause, to breath and to pray. It became a moment to remember to be thankful to our Lord for all He has made. I was tempted to re-post a number of photos from the James Webb telescope, just looking at them puts me in awe at what our Lord has made!

When we believers lose the motivation to love, we so very easily become critical of others. We stop looking for the good in them and do our best to only see their faults. Then, and soon, we lose our unity. So, when you begin to feel critical about someone - just stop yourself and instead make an effort, maybe even make a list of that person’s positive qualities and focus your attention on those. Maybe even make an effort to pray earnestly for them…

Keeping the law should not be a mere intellectual formality. We are to obey God's law, not to obtain salvation, but to live in ways pleasing to God. Just to be clear, if you are looking for salvation, there is only one way to find it and John quotes what Jesus said about that in John 14:6: 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. " That, is the way of salvation and I believe that this fact needs to be firmly anchored in our hearts.

Almost 33 years ago we as a family were driving around for days looking for a church that suited us. We had just moved into a new area… We were asking the Lord to guide us where to worship Him. And one day as we were driving, all of a sudden, we all said and agreed, yes, this is the church. This is the church where the Lord wants us to worship Him... So, on Sunday we went to that church and as the service started this song is what they sang: “How Majestic Is Your Name O Lord, our Lord. How majestic is Your Name in all the earth" The lyrics of that song really moved our hearts and with tears of adoration we sang, my wife and I looked at each other and said: “This is home!”

Our culture more than any other before seems to insist: “Be gracious to me.” We need to get out of the idolatry of “me”, we need to get to the point, to move to the point of caring enough for the other that we instead say : “Be gracious to you.” But even better than that, would be to simply go and join hands and together ask: “Be gracious to us.” So, remember, God's blessings, God's plans are for and include all of us!

Peter had denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed. And now on the beach, after His resurrection, Jesus appears to His disciples for a third time and here Jesus asks Peter three times if he loved him. When Peter answered yes, Jesus told him to feed his sheep. It is one thing to say you love Jesus, but the real test; the real test, is willingness to serve him no matter what.

Well, a whole week has gone by... since Easter. I imagine that many of you had the opportunity to meet with family and share a special meal, others will have had a time to meditate on Jesus’ death and resurrection and still others may have had to face persecution, difficulties or pressures of many kinds. But, I believe that for all of us, this is a time to strengthen our endurance and maybe strengthen our faith. Today's message is titled: Believe And Trust - John 20:19-31 I don’t know about you, but I feel we often associate believing with our “heads” and trusting with our “hearts”. Here is where you come to realize, that to experience Belief or Trust” is not enough. We need both, we need to trust in God, by believing and trusting that even now he is with you - and with me - in the form of the Holy Spirit.

The most important thing that Christian Faith says is that the Cross and the Resurrection were one event. This means, while you may not have chosen your suffering, but you don't have to stay there. God sent his Son into our suffering, so that we would not have to stay there. God resurrected Jesus because he wants us to live again. He wants us to get out of whatever depths of despair we might find ourselves in. This is how Christian Faith says it: “You cannot endure the cross without expecting a resurrection”

We are in the crucial days of the Holy Week. It's Friday, Good Friday and the question today is: What does the cross mean to you?
May our Lord bless you abundantly on this day! - Today's message is titled: Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands! - from Luke 22:14-71 and Luke 23:1-56, The message is a bit different in that I will spend most of the time today simply reading from God‘s Word, from the Bible. Normally I would take a small section of Scripture and speak about that, but today the Lord seems to have told me to simply read His Word and this starts us at Palm Sunday, and quickly takes us right past that to all the happenings afterwards... One week after Palm Sunday, after all those “Hosannas”, Jesus, the son of God would be dead, and his death would be the result of the demands of his own people, many of whom were probably right there among the crowd shouting “Hosanna” on Palm Sunday… After all that Jesus had done, some of the religious leaders were scared, envious, or maybe, just maybe Jesus had disrupted their security blankets, revealed their sham, and worst of all - opposed their authority, hurt their egos. So, they started preparing a new plan.

Alive with Christ - Psalm 126 As I looked at Psalm 126 I found it leading me to Ephesians 2. In Ephesians 2:4 I found two words, two beautiful words where we see the grace of God, where we see His love, where we realize, He didn’t make us so that we would perish. Psalm 32, a song full of joy, but it also points out an issue many of us need to deal with. we need to decide. Today's message is titled: "I have decided" . I think the best example for "I have decided" is in Luke 15 where Jesus tells the parable of the prodigal son. You remember, right? Youngest son gets dad to give him his inheritance and then takes off into a foreign land and parties until money runs out and a famine comes. He hires out to earn food, working with pigs. Even their food looks good to him... Then he makes a decision, admits his shame and guilt and sin, returns to dad looking to be a servant, but dad receives him with open arms. He decided.

Before Exodus 34, when I look at Exodus 32, it reminds me a bit of our current: “instant gratification” culture. When the people had to wait, and not all THAT long, coupled with uncertainty, (after all they didn’t know what had happened to Moses on the mountain). Well, what would we do? We’d likely lose patience and go our own way most times, right? Well, the Israelites lost patience and they committed their infamous folly of making a golden calf. Moses smashes the tablets God had given him, and then did a repeat on the mountain, then he came down again and... shone.

A New Name - Isaiah 62:1-5 Maybe in this passage we are reminded that God created the earth and everything in it and that God said it was good. Maybe, just maybe, He’s reminding us that He made us stewards to look after the land, to care for it, to protect it and to treat it well. But since it’s us: there is abuse in the land, there is injustice, war, there are machines that destroy what God had created. The title: Jesus Is Here - A collage of John, Matthew and Luke. Just imagine: Mary and Joseph make their way through the crush of people seeking a place in Bethlehem to stay for the night. Mary was definitely showing. She’s well advanced in her pregnancy and there are those Jewish laws about being clean or unclean. Those laws kind of eliminated any Inn as a place that would allow Mary lodging. After all, pretty well everyone in the Inn would be considered unclean if she stayed there.

Today's message is called: A Body Offered In Obedience and I'm looking at: Hebrews 10: 1,12-14, 19-25 Moving from arguments to instruction, the author of Hebrews shares many examples of those who have demonstrated faith throughout history and he let's us realize that living by faith is far better than merely fulfilling rituals and rules.
Today we're looking at the story of Lazarus. Where Jesus raised him from the dead. For anybody who is wrapped in the shroud of the world, you have the Invisible assurance that God wants you. He wants to set you free. Through Jesus God calls your close friends, family, maybe a pastor, social workers, or caring professionals, who are willing to listen and help… help you to “Unbind the hands; unbind the feet; unwrap the face.”
He Opened the Way into the Presence of God! Hebrews 9:1, 10-14 The place of worship for many today will be a new place, a virtual place... But, for many others, it remains a place rooted in the center of a community, hemmed in by its neighbors, bearing witness to the vitality of town centers and city streets that once were vital centers of urban life. In some cases it's indistinguishable from homes... or tents.
Many times, I’ve asked those with me to bow down their heads, and with hands clasped, eyes closed and with words spoken softly and gently, lifting a prayer, lifted up for this need, or for that person, or for those in trouble or with an affliction. I would ask for a need, a want, for those in despair… sometimes for some-one or for some-many. I’d voice a hope that God will intervene, help, safeguard, or assist. Then, with these needs and wants laid before God, the prayer ends with: "In Jesus' name I pray. Amen." That's it; that's the Invisible Assurance we have that God will hear us, for this prayer is being offered in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is the one interceding for us before the throne of God.

Through His Son - Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:5-12 And after reading this Scripture I had to ask myself: So, was Jesus there when heaven and earth were created? And if you answered as I did: Yes!... why do we have such a hard time acting as if it’s true? We so often act… and I mean we do this each day… as if our finances, our family, and our health issues are far beyond His reach...
I've spoken about prayer a number of times and today God prompted me to go there again and so the title of the sermon is:You should Pray! and I'm focusing on James 5:13-20. In James 5, the author says: “you should Pray!” I don’t see those words either as a suggestion or a maybe… but I see these words as an exhortation with divine authority. This is something we should be doing! Prayer should happen every day, and as many times as needed, which really is all the time!

Proverbs was written primarily by King Solomon. It appears though, that others before and after him had also contributed to this book... Proverbs includes: truisms, pithy sayings, folk wisdom, and advice… it was primarily written as a guide, to help the reader choose right behavior.
Today's message is titled: "Where, Why, And How We Praise The Lord". Psalm 146 is a Psalm that begins and ends with: "Praise the LORD" The scope of God’s creative action is as large as the heavens, the earth, and the sea, as well as everything that inhabits them. We live in His invisible assurance that all of creation is secured by His eternal truth.
His Prized Possession - James 1:17-27 Martin Luther made critical remarks about this book, calling it an “epistle of straw” Luther’s critique was born because he distinguishes between two very different kinds of divine authority, between, law and gospel, the authority of Moses versus the authority of Christ.
So many of us think we have God in our pocket today, meaning that we can do whatever we want, but you as well as I know this is not true! … When we ask for God’s direction and we know he is answering our prayer… Well then, don't you agree that it's very important to obey and follow his instructions.
A thought really hit me as I was preparing for this sermon: Here's the thought: That we should not ask God to do for us what he wants to do through us? Think about it. Instead, don’t you agree that we should ask God to give us the wisdom to know what to do and the courage to follow through with it?
Today's message is titled: To be filled! and I'm looking at 1st Kings 19:4-8 Often discouragement sets in after great spiritual experiences, especially those requiring physical effort or involving great emotion. To lead him out of depression, God first let Elijah rest and eat. Then God confronted him with the need to return to his mission.
Today's message asks a question. It's the question the crowd asked Jesus when they found Him again after He had fed them. What should we do? – that was the question they asked Jesus. They wanted to do exciting things! But, were their hearts in the right place? Jesus replied quite clearly what God wants from them and that is the key, that goes for us too. Jesus said: "Believe in the one he has sent.” And that is it! That's all God requires of us to be with Him in eternal life.

Today's message is titled: The Lord is our Righteousness and I'm focusing on Jeremiah 23:1-6 There are a number of examples of shepherds and sheep in the Bible and that brings me to a question: What of those who know no shepherd? Without a shepherd, it may be hard for sheep to find pasture and water which they require for survival. Also sheep without a shepherd may get attacked by predators. After all, Sheep are relatively defenseless animals… and I guess, from that point of view… so are we.
Today's message is titled: Blessed before He made the World - Ephesians 1:3-14 In that passage Paul starts out as he identifies himself out of the depths of his most vivid self-consciousness and sense of call, as an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God. Paul knew who he was. He was an Apostle, and for Paul, that did not signify a class or an office. It was a calling, a vocation. Paul was convinced that God had a plan for his life.
You’ve probably read it or heard it many times: “For when I am weak, then I am strong” to me this sounds so much like a taste of God’s Grace. When the power of Christ combines with our belief, unrestrained by our fear of rejection, then extraordinary things might happen that astound the world and us.
"Just have faith!" and I'm looking at Mark 5:21-25 and 30-43. One of the reasons people tend to see faith as a religion about God, instead of a relationship with God, is because they have the sense that they are not worthy of the attention of an Almighty God... Many say: "My problems are too small for God to care about." - But Jesus says: “don’t be afraid… just have faith.”
