Israelites rather than living by faith in God, established customs and traditions (in addition to God’s law) to try to make themselves acceptable in God’s sight; ignoring that this is not what God wants. Human effort, no matter how sincere can never substitute for the righteousness God offers us by faith. If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. Events in the Old Testament underscore the profound relationship between God and His people, emphasizing His presence, majesty, and holiness. But you know what happened; as time passes the new generations forgot and as often happens even today, they want to do things their own way, even though they have God’s commands and laws they became unfaithful and greedy. They began to worship other gods, and doing evil in the eyes of the Lord. God didn’t fail us, we failed God.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. The book of Romans is more than a theological explanation of God’s redeeming grace; it is a letter of comfort and confidence addressed to us. We learn there that God overcomes the powers of sin and death through God’s self-giving love.38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Let us always remember, that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God and while we can be confident of our salvation, we still look ahead with hope and trust toward that complete change of body and personality that lies beyond this life, when we will be like Christ. The law of sin and death refers to the Mosaic Law. The law revealed God’s standard, it revealed our shortcomings, it revealed the consequences of falling short, and it even revealed our innate proclivity or inclination to reject God and defy His standard. The law's purpose was to expose our moral failure and lead us to Christ, who fulfilled its requirements and offered life through His sacrifice. We all face challenges and burdens in life, they can feel overwhelming. These feelings of weight are not uncommon as we navigate through our daily lives. When we talk about putting our burdens on God, it means acknowledging that we cannot carry them alone, and realizing that we don’t have to.When our burdens cause us to stop thanking God, it often reflects a heart that has forgotten His goodness, a heart that is taking His gifts for granted, or a heart that is resisting His helpThe same Lord who parted seas, toppled Jericho’s walls, and raised His Son from the grave still works mightily today. Keep your eyes open, your heart grateful, and your lips ready; the world needs to hear that you have seen what the Lord can do. How often have you heard this sentence: "I have some good news and some bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”God, too, has good and bad news for us. We are eager to hear the good news, but shudder at the idea of hearing bad news. Often, we display “Selective hearing”, because we only want to hear the good news. Now we are reminded that God’s judgment is coming to a world that forsakes God; it comes to individual persons who forsake God and live contrary to divine rules. No one can promise you that your life will be pleasant, comfortable, free from stress and from aches and pains all the way through. No one can guarantee that your life will be happy, successful or that it will fulfill your dreams. There is an inherent risk in simply being born and living. With all that Jeremiah 20:13 tells us to praise the Lord: 13 Sing to the Lord! Praise the Lord! For though I was poor and needy, he rescued me from my oppressors”. This isn’t just about physical salvation from danger, but also the spiritual deliverance from sin, despair, and hopelessness. God is keenly interested in our well-being and provides a safe haven for those who seek Him.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. I’ve often heard the phrase: life is complicated, and of course, it can be, at work, at your community, often it’s a competition to win, it’s testing our belief, it’s living on the edge. We compete about who has the best idea, who has the best answer, who has the best solution at the table in a meeting. But then there’s Jesus, his reason to come to earth was for us to let go of all the worries of the world and put our trust in God alone. Hosea was a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel during the 8th century BC. He was the last great prophet that God sent to the northern Kingdom of Israel before they were destroyed and exiled by Assyria. In chapter 5 we hear a tone of exasperation and desperation. Even God seems to look at humankind and ask Himself, "What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? Your love for me is as short-lived as the dew on the morning grass.God is saying: You refuse to acknowledge your sin and do not come to me for forgiveness. You make a pretense of having religion by offering sacrifices. The psalm is a hymn of praise that reflects on the grandeur of creation and the insignificance of humanity in comparison to God's glory. The greatness of God assures the worth of mankind. God, the all -powerful Creator, cares for his most valuable creation: people, Us!People in the Old Testament, worshipped the Lord in an open field, surrounded by nature, with birds singing, during the warm breeze of the day. There are times and occasions when a religious person must shout hallelujah. No question about it, the religion of the psalmist who wrote Psalm 8 is a religion that sings. The word “Pentecost” comes from a Greek word meaning “fiftieth.” It appeared first during a Jewish festival called the Feast of Weeks, or Shavuot. Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Christian Church.” Before this day, Jesus’ followers were hiding, scared after Jesus’ crucifixion. As they were gathered and prayed, on the day of Pentecost, “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven. Friends, this shows how God used powerful signs—wind and fire—to show that something big was happening. The new Christians Peter wrote to had been surprised by having to face persecution for their faith. These Christians Peter wrote to were Gentiles and they were shocked, because they became Christians just in time to be persecuted. Into this Peter breaks the news that persecution is ordinary for Christians. Jesus said that if they persecuted him, they'll persecute his followers. Peter knew he needed to admonish; he needed to encourage that even in suffering they should keep firm in their faith in the Lord God. Peter felt he needed to encourage those of the new early church, he needed to encourage Christians, he needed to encourage us.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. Stay Humble, with a good Attitude”. Try it. Keep your composure, avoid engaging in emotional reactions. In your day-to-day actions, avoid conflict and remain unimpressed by the intimidation tactics others might bring against you, and be aware of any insecurities that could affect you. “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit”. These were the last words of the apostle Stephen just before he died.In ancient times, many middle eastern religions employed rock piles as altars, but none as prolific as the Semitic faiths. Homes and Jewish gathering spaces built in Capernaum too, were made of small blackish stones of basalt. We are God-made, not crafted by human hand, but designed by our World-Maker God and blessed by His holy touch. In this, we are transfigured from mere stone into Living Stones of God, able to be altars, ladders, and bridges to God from anywhere in the world, for everyone in the world. Today I’d like to take you with me to look at a 4th admonition and that is looking at Christian behavior while we walk this world as temporary sojourners in this world. I know many of you have family members who don’t know Jesus yet, and if you’re honest, it sits heavy on your heart. I want to speak into that place right now and bring you peace. Because their salvation is not resting on your shoulders. It never was. Jesus already paid for them. The cross included them. Every sin, every mistake, every moment that feels like it’s keeping them far has already been dealt with. Which means Jesus does not desire half-hearted discipleship. Following Jesus must be all or nothing. He wants us to be all in. Not 50 %, not 95%, but 100 percent. He desires all there is of us. Body and soul. Heart and mind. Peter told us, we are to be set apart, for we are different, not blending in with the crowd, yet we’re not to be different just for the sake of being different. God’s qualities in our lives makes us different. We must admit that we all desperately need the gift of holiness, a holiness that we cannot manufacture or attain for ourselves. We cannot become holy on our own, but God has given us his Holy Spirit to help us obey and He gives us power to overcome sin. At the same time, we should fear His discipline and therefore seek to live our lives in a way that pleases Him. Reverence ought to be evident in the way believers conduct themselves in God's presence. After all we are all sojourners on this world, wanderers, visiting for a short time on our way to God’s eternal kingdom. God is present in your Suffering – 1 Peter 1:3-9Jesus is risen! Indeed, he is Risen, Alleluia! and we shout it with joy. After encountering this reality, how do you feel? During Jesus’ trial Peter denied knowing Jesus. Soon after Jesus died and rose again, Peter repented and became a great apostle and preacher. Nearly everywhere, when I talk to people some are troubled because they do not know that they are secure. They think that because of their sins, their negligence, their failing to endure to the end, or that for some other reason, they may lose their salvation. Many do not realize that God has determined that all who repent and believe in Him have everlasting life and will go to Heaven when they die. When we believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, the Holy Spirit immediately enters our lives. We are sealed for eternity and brought under God’s spiritual protection from that moment on.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. The cross represents the ultimate sacrifice, offering hope and forgiveness for humanity's sins, and is a reminder of God's love and grace. No one took Jesus’ life from Him. God had given him a specific task. That task was to lay down his life on behalf of the world. We’ve arrived at Easter Sunday. Throughout the world the light is back, no more darkness. Churches are filled with Christians shouting back and forth “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” Christ rolled the tombstone away from people's lives to let them be free. Christ sends us, into the very spaces and places we would rather forget. Christ sends us into the very households of people who look, think, and act differently. Praise God in highest heaven!” … Hosanna! Why were people shouting Hosanna? The Hebrew word yasha means “deliver or save” and anna means “beg or beseech”. Let me give you two words: Two words: “Not guilty” With and through Jesus Christ we are FREE! The fact is that the whole human race is on death row. Justly condemned for repeatedly breaking God’s holy law. Without Jesus we would have no hope at all. But thank God! He has declared us not guilty and has offered us freedom from sin.The “power within”, this power is not derived from human strength or religious effort but is sustained by the Holy Spirit dwelling within the believer, you!If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. Ultimately, Saul’s story is a cautionary tale about the consequences of turning away from God’s guidance and the tragic results that can ensue when one seeks to fulfill their own will above the will of God.The way we choose people or things is different from how God does it. God chooses us for servanthood, not based on other people’s ideas, but rather based on His.True inner power might be observed by listening to our instincts about a person and remembering that we tend to look at the outward appearance and that at best gives us a maybe. The Bible teaches that we Christians are not immune to suffering. Instead, it emphasizes that trials and tribulations are part of the process of sanctification and are designed to enable believers to grow into the image of Christ. The message for us, if we believe in Him, is thisThrough Jesus, we are justified, which means He set us into a right relationship with God. As Paul puts it, we have "access to this grace." Everything's ready for us to live with God again. We enjoy access to God's graceThe pursuit of peace apart from God is portrayed as fruitless. The Bible warns that the wicked cannot experience the peace that comes from God, and the superficial promises of peace given by human leaders are exposed as inadequate. When some people learn that they are saved by God through faith, they start to worry. “Do I have enough faith? Is my faith strong enough to save me? Don’t miss the point, it is Jesus Christ who saves us. Not our feeling or actions, and he is strong enough to save us no matter how strong or weak our faith is. The Christian church began the season of Lent last Wednesday on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a 40-day period of penitential preparation for Easter, involving fasting, abstinence, and almsgiving.Someone who spent time on the space station said this: From orbit, that Earth doesn’t look like a collection of countries, borders, or competing interests. It appears as a single, radiant blue sphere suspended in darkness. No lines divide continents. No flags mark territory. From 250 miles above the surface, every human conflict suddenly looks small — and every human connection looks unavoidable. The “overview effect” is a profound cognitive shift reported by many who see Earth from space. It’s the sudden realization that humanity shares a single, closed system. No backups. No escape route. No second home. Now just imagine how God thinks of us disobedient sinners. Yet still, he loves us. He sent his son to die on the cross for all us sinners. The Bible is filled with stories of remarkable leaders who transformed nations and shaped history. While qualities like courage, wisdom, and charisma are often attributed to their success, one aspect that often goes unnoticed is their exceptional listening skill. Like Moses, his obedience to God's voice was crucial in leading his people to freedom and establishing a covenant with God. Then there’s John the Baptist. His ability to hear God's voice and proclaim His message was a significant part of his ministry. There’s Samuel, he listened, as a young boy and later as priest and prophet. Samuel’s story illustrates the importance of listening to God's voice and obeying it at all costs. Then there’s Elijah, his mission was to summon the people to conversion and denounce idolatry and social injustices. They all excelled at listening to God!If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. We need to realize that God’s hatred was real-burning, consuming and destroying... He hates sin, and he stands as the righteous Judge, ready to mete out justice; punishment to all who defy his rule. If we carry a heavy burden, then sadly our life may feel heavy and dark and then what should we do?The world these days is very noisy, instead of having peace, we find just the opposite, in our gloom and despair, we fear that our sorrow and troubles will never end. But we can take comfort in this certainty, that although the Lord may not always spare us from troubles, he will lead us safely through them If we follow him wholeheartedly. John proclaims Jesus as the Son of God and Savior, emphasizing belief in Him as necessary for salvation. How do you know what your mission in life is? John the Baptist knew. He knew that he came to prepare the way for Jesus. But what about us? How do we know? No matter how young or old we might be, at some point we need to begin to ask questions of ourselves or maybe of others and we might begin to wonder what our mission is. God loves us, but we need to remember, God’s will never changes. God says: I am the Lord that is my name. God is firm in what he says. If we will not listen and obey God, He will discipline us through consequences. God’s goal is that we learn to trust in Him. How many times have we said that we need to trust Him and even memorized it, yet still so often we don’t seem to learn. As Matthew tells us about the birth of Jesus, we learn more about Joseph than at any other point in scripture. We learn the kind of person he was and most of all, we learn about who Jesus will be. Both Mary and Joseph were visited by angels of God. Angel visitations, and dreams are God’s way of saying. Just keep the faith. Advent and Christmas means celebrating the birth of a baby. Babies make no demands on anyone other than their parents or those caring for them. While we may enjoy holding babies, the moment they start fussing we quickly hand them back to their mother or father. If we forever view Jesus as an infant perhaps like our own children, we miss out on much of his life and teachings. It is so important that we be an example and share all we know of our Lord Jesus Christ. Judah was characterized by rugged terrain, rolling hills, and fertile valleys and this region, known as the Hill Country of Judah, played a crucial role in the life and history of the Israelite tribes, particularly the tribe of Judah. It is often described as a land flowing with milk and honey, reflecting its agricultural richness and strategic importance for settlement and agriculture. Overall, the desert in the Bible is a powerful metaphor for the trials and growth that come with faith and trust in God. In our wilderness, it seems that there is never enough time, never enough money, never enough understanding, and never enough love… Our hands are weak. Our knees grow feeble. Our hearts become oh so fearful. So, let me ask: Where are those scary, wilderness spaces deep inside our souls? The Bible emphasizes the importance of wisdom and understanding as essential gifts from God. Spiritual wisdom is rooted in the fear of the Lord and is characterized by a deep reverence for God and His commandments. Isaiah was a prophet during a tumultuous time in Israel’s history. One of the hardest lessons we need to learn is that not many worthwhile things in life are ever given, most have to be earned. It appears that work is part of the plan of God for our lives. The apostle Paul believed this. Work is seen as part of God's perfect creation. Work is not merely as a means of survival, but as a way to participate in God's creative order. 2 Timothy 2:2 tells us: Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others”. This is what Paul told TImothy, but it’s for any leader. Just imagine, if the church were to consistently follow this advice from 2 Timothy 2:2, it would expand geometrically as every well taught believer would teach others and commission them, in turn, to teach still others. As we live our lives of faith, we may be surrounded by a large crowd or a small group of trusted companions. Whatever the size of our community, we are born with a need to walk this road of life with fellow travelers. We need to “go with” others on the path we have been set upon by what we had learned. We are empowered by those who walk with us, be it family, or close sincere friends. Paul had left Timothy in Ephesus to help the church there. I understand that the idea was to help the church… but I think Timothy ended up being the main leader of the church in Ephesus. Why is it so difficult to have true contentment? It’s difficult to have true contentment due to several factors. One might be our mindset and our behavior, which can often lead us to feel unfulfilled despite our achievements. Another could be the constant reminders (the marketing) of things we are missing out on, which can hinder our ability to find contentment. But then when is enough… enough? There is a difference between what we need and what we want. If we have all we need to live, that means we have enough, and that’s different from letting ourselves become anxious and discontent over things what we merely want.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. Jesus is the sole mediator, acting as the bridge between humanity and God. No one else can mediate our relationship with God! "Godliness" and "Dignity" emphasize the importance of a life that is both spiritually mature and morally upright. Godliness refers to a devoted life, it is a discipline that requires intentional effort and training, much like physical exercise, and that exercise is what daily prayer is.And then, there are differing views on the effectiveness of intercessory prayer and its role in spiritual life. Some may believe that intercessory prayer is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and connection, while others may see it as a distraction from the focus on God's supremacy. We’ll look at how important it is to live according to what the Bible (the Word inspired from God) teaches us, acknowledging the Bible’s ultimate authority. Paul probably wrote this letter during the year 60 A.D. while he was under house arrest. Onesimus was a domestic slave who belonged to Philemon, a wealthy man and a member of the church in Colosse. Onesimus had run away from Philemon and had made his way to Rome, where he met Paul, who apparently led him to Christ. How might we improve our relationship with God? If our minds are occupied with the problems of the day. It’s like we lose our focus on God. There is a massive disconnect between what the people have been doing for God and what God wants. Perhaps we even hate how our sin has separated us from God, and we want that relationship mended. This text teaches that human opinions are subject to change, but God's truth remains constant. We tend to form opinions on all matters in life, as Christians in today’s world, we might consider that even though Jeremiah got his message from God, he was unpopular, because his message showed the people how bad they were. As for us? Well, we don’t want to lose friends or family, so it’s more comfortable to shrug our shoulders and just go along. But that is not what God wants, he didn’t want that from Jeremiah and He doesn’t want that from us.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com If you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com or use the QR Code provided. Practical matters refer to actions and decisions that are directly related to everyday life and can be applied in real-world situations. In Luke 12, Jesus, the Son of God, was teaching his disciples, the crowds gathered to hear him, they were eager to listen. Keep in mind, that although it was not mentioned, Jesus was not teaching men only, he was teaching women and children too. Christian faith provides a growth track into knowledge of the truth; but along the way, how do we guard against being deceived by lies masquerading as “well crafted arguments"? Consider, if your growth track is too narrow, you might become thick-headed and insular. No one can teach you a thing, and love, love disappears from your life. Today’s Scripture richly distinguishes between our will and God’s will. And some questions came up: Are we planning on deciding to obey God using our own will or are we planning to decide with the help of God’s divine Will?Even way back when the message was in our hearts. During Moses’ time most things are learned by heart. Information about watering holes, after all, in Israel, watering holes were significant because that information served as a vital resource in arid landscapes, they were important for survival, as well containing spiritual symbolism then there were agricultural practices, weaving cloth, making food. Even learning the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. The Way emphasized a lifestyle of love, compassion, and obedience to Jesus, rather than merely adhering to a set of beliefs. It was a journey that involved living out the teachings of Jesus and embodying His example in daily life.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. Today we’ll look at fishing. I’m thinking about how Jesus saw how the disciples were fishing, thinking about it I realize that fishing must have been more then a job, there must have been a love for what they were doing. Jesus said he’ll make some fishermen fishers of men. Peter was a fisherman who had denied Jesus. But Jesus had other plans for Peter. Three times Peter denied Jesus, but after His resurrection Jesus asked Peter three times: Do you love me? This sequence leads me to ask: Do you love Jesus? If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. In Luke:23:42-43 When the thief asks a favor of Jesus, Jesus kind of tells us where he's going to be between death and resurrection. Doesn't He?42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” 43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. With that Jesus was condemned and crucified, and he died on that cross, everything went dark; all were scared; the world trembled; and maybe for short time all believed he was the King. Maybe they thought He was who He said he was. Then the next day there was a quiet day, a day to meditate, a Sabbath, a day to reflect. We are walking thru the season of Lent and today we arrive at Palm Sunday, where we will study several parts of Scripture that show the ups and downs Jesus traversed on his way to the cross. This Sunday we will look at his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. If you are willing to trust a plane or car to get you to your destination, are you willing to trust God to guide you here on earth and to your eternal destination? When you don’t feel like rejoicing, tell God how you truly feel. Many times, we forget that when we are in the midst of a trial, that when God brings us through, we often find ourselves in better condition than before the trial began. Fear of God and knowledge of sin is essential, but that is not the essence of repentance. Repentance is not remorse. It is not just enough to be broken. It is not just enough to be contrite. It is not just enough to turn over a new leaf to mess up a clean page. True repentance is revealed by changing our actions. Repentance it is more than turning over our lives. It is more than just feeling sorry for our sins. Repentance means to change the direction of our lives completely. It means to stop walking toward selfishness or self-centeredness or a life that is centered upon what the self desires. It means to make a 180-degree turn, to start walking toward God, toward his vision, toward His aim and goals for our lives. Paul indicates Christian maturity involves acting on the guidance that we have already received. We can always make excuses that we still have so much to learn, but the truth is that the instructions for us are to live up to what we already know and live out what we have already learned. Following Ash Wednesday, on the first Sunday of Lent, the scriptures take us to another down-to-earth ritual. Each year, when the harvest begins, the Israelite farmers are told to gather a basket full of the first fruits of the harvest to present to God at the place of worship. Christians ought to mark the season of Lent, as a time to redouble a commitment, to care for the most vulnerable in our communities, especially those without the privilege of generational wealth, those considered aliens and those considered outsiders in our communities. Paul expressed his humility before God - No one can claim to be adequate without God’s help. No one is competent to carry out the responsibilities of God’s calling with human strength alone. Based on his own experience Paul knew that without the Holy Spirit’s enabling, our natural talents can carry us only so far. As Christ’s witnesses, we need the character and special strength that only God can give.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. For some of us, when one bad thing happens, we are done, finished. But not Joseph. He kept his head up. He kept his values. He kept his faith in God and he succeeded at everything he did. In Josiah’s day, boys were considered men at age of 12, by 16 Josiah understood the responsibility of his office. He showed greater wisdom than many of the older kings who came before him, because he had decided to seek the Lord God and his wisdom. Jeremiah was called by God to be a prophet to Judah, a job he held for the next 70 years until their return from captivity in Babylon. He lived through the period of the disintegration of the kingdom, witnessed the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, and spent the remaining years of his life in Egypt. We need to realize that God has a purpose for each Christian, but some people are appointed by God for specific kinds of work and whatever work He has appointed you to do should be done for the glory of God. And if you are still wondering what that work is, then seek to fulfill the mission common to all believers: to love, to obey, and to serve God, until his guidance or your life becomes clear. Much confusion in Christian life comes from ignoring the simple truth that God is more interested in developing our character… than in anything else. We worry when God seems to be silent about specific issues such as "Which career should I choose?". The truth is there are many careers or paths that would be right in God's eyes for you. God is primarily interested in who you are, more than in what you do so that you come to realize that the joy of the Lord is our strength.Much confusion in Christian life comes from ignoring the simple truth that God is more interested in developing our character… than in anything else. Paul told the Corinthians of the importance of the correct understanding about the Spirit, he goes on to talk about the work of the Spirit. Paul's assessment of the church in Corinth does not focus on how many members they have on their average attendance, or their total or per capita giving. Instead, Paul focuses on their actions, and the choices they made in their lives as Christians; on their gifts. When “God said”. (Genesis 1:2-3) That means when he spoke; when He said the word. "Let there be light." And behold there was light. The voice of God- is mighty beyond our comprehension. The voice of God is powerful enough to bring creation into existence and yet soft enough to comfort an aching heart. As He comforted a despondent Elijah in 1 Kings 19:9-13. We're awaiting Jesus! Merry Christmas! It’s incredible… Salvation came… when Jesus came… A little baby was born a little more than 2,000 years ago under very unimpressive circumstances… He was born to poor working people… living in an oppressed country… He was born while the parents were on a journey that was required… involuntary… and they had to stay in a stable instead of in a home. The baby was laid to sleep in a trough from which cattle usually ate. And yet, Christians down through all these years have believed that there was something very special about that birth. If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. In Isaiah 12:1-6 we find a message of joy. If we compare Isaiah 12, this song of Joy, with Psalm 30 where we find a psalm of trust and then if we compare those songs to John the Baptist's message, we realize that to have JOY, that profound abundant JOY that only comes from God, we come to realize that it all starts with repentance. For us to follow Jesus means more than saying the right words; it means acting on what he says. Many of John the Baptist's hearers were shocked when he said that being Abraham’s descendants was not enough to ensure salvation. In today’s world, in our world that means that we cannot rely on someone else’s faith for our salvation. What changes can you make during this time of waiting and what might you share? If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. I know that during the summer many of us like to go camping into the middle of the forest, just to get away from it all. Many people do, some almost every week. So, you know the ropes, there’s no great risk in doing that. But at some point, you likely had to stop and listen to advice, to hear what you should do, right? So, why is it so hard for us to listen? From the very first page of the Scriptures, we learn that our God is a God who speaks. It’s our responsibility to listen to our Lord speaking. What’s stopping us?If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. The Bible Story about Philip and the eunuch is an example that transcends time and space, ethnicities, races, gender, skin color, and all the other “differences” we tend to put up as barriers, creating “us” versus “them” scenarios. It breaks down the barriers we put up to shield ourselves from differences. God gave us a rule book. It’s called the Bible. God gave us a command that is the first of all commands. You may find it in Matthew 22:37-40 37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. Jesus identified Himself as “I AM” just as God the Father did when He first spoke to Moses and gave him his mission. Jesus makes 7 “I AM” statements in the Gospel of John. While these statements are all important, the one that stands out to me is John 14:6 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. Let us be bold, let us be united, let us worship the Lord with one heart, one soul, one mind. Historians agree that most people in the first-century Roman Empire lived at or below subsistence level; their lives required a literal sharing of material resources. Are we too rich to do that today? Or should we take this passage as instructions for how Christian communities ought to relate to each other even today? I invite you to comment on Why or why not? Happy Easter! The Lord is Risen! He is risen indeed! That is the greeting we used to hear in one denomination. And that is the reason for rejoicing! They took palm branches and ran out to meet Jesus. After all, this was the traditional way of greeting a conquering king. Waving palm branches was a visual and spectacular way to give him thanks and praise. But why were they there? Why did so many people come out to see Jesus come into Jerusalem? What were they expecting? Then this day became a historical event that we commemorate year after year. Why? When we follow a leader what’s on our minds? Do we follow for the right reason? I have to wonder, what is it in human nature that makes us turn away from God? – Sin and rebellion come to mind, then Ignoring God, self-deception, self-deceit, disobeying, and worldly influences. In the realm of human nature, these are some of the common factors that can lead individuals to turn away from God. If you look at the Old Testament, you will find covenant after covenant broken. Joshua, Judges, 1st and 2nd Samuel, and 1st and 2nd Kings are full of stories of the people collectively and individually breaking their covenant with God. So, what's the answer? Many times, people try to protect themselves from their fears by putting their faith in something or other. But in John 3 we learn that only God can save us from the one thing that we really need to fear and that is eternal condemnation. We need to believe in God by recognizing the insufficiency of our own efforts to find salvation, and by asking Him to do his work in us. After all, when Jesus talks about unbelievers. He means those who reject or ignore him completely. He’s not talking about those who have momentary doubts. When we talk about the Gospel, we need to realize that the persuasive power is in the story - not in the storyteller. It’s a simple statement, if there’s no law, you can’t break it, if there is, you will. And so we are asked to place all our faith in God. It can be a scary feeling, placing all our faith in God – But why is it, that we have that scary feeling? I think that’s mostly because placing faith in God seems so inadequate, because we have absolutely no control over the Lord’s response… If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.comIf you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.comWe feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. But if you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com(please note that no tax receipts will be issued)

Dirt is usually something unclean, especially when it’s in contact with a person's clothes, skin, or possessions and almost nobody wants to be seen with dirt on their cloths, or you run the risk of being called dirty. It's Paul who reminds us that while we may feel we're at the end of our rope, we are really never at the end of our hope. After all, our perishable bodies are subject to sin and suffering, but God never abandons us. In this letter Paul condemned those who twist God’s Word, be they preachers, teachers, and anyone else who talks about Jesus Christ. If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who don’t want to believe. We need to remember that all of us ultimately stand in God’s presence, and He hears every word we speak. Paul was concerned about those who change the Gospel to suit their audience. If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.comIf you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.comWe feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. But if you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com(please note that no tax receipts will be issued)

Remember, Saul had that conversion experience on the road to Damascus? He actually saw, talked and was in the presence of the resurrected Christ, who declared him to be an apostle. Shortly after Saul traveled back to Jerusalem and changed his name to Paul, but the first thing he did was tell his story, we would say give his testimony. He didn't wait until he was fully educated with a diploma in hand to start his ministry. He started then and there. Paul agreed that food offered to idols was not contaminated, but he wanted to be sure that the “knowledgeable Christians” would not flaunt their enlightened point of view. Let me put it this way: “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.”Paul recognised this as a crisis in the church and highlights that charity for one another is the way great and powerful congregations are built. It is also the way we as individuals become more than private disciples because this doesn’t happen in conflict, nor in challenging others, nor in ministering mostly to ourselves. Christianity is not expressed in isolation; it is meant to be with others. Where is your Temple? - 1 Corinthians 6:12-20The idea of complete freedom and being allowed to do anything has been debated by philosophers, political scientists, and sociologists for centuries. But if you think about it, if you were allowed to do anything, then you’ve given up all freedom, because you’re really enslaved to your own desires. God’s Power on the Journey - Ephesians 1:15-23 One question I need to ask is: why do people lose power? – And I found several examples in Scripture... I was recently reading 2nd Chronicles 24 and 2 kings 13 and there you can find several kings who reigned in Israel and Judea between 840 BC to 760 BC. Those Kings were Jehoiada, Joash, Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash. There seemed to be a pattern there. These kings for the most part started out doing well. Hope on the Journey! - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18Sometimes we hope for things where there is no hope. A car can’t bring true hope; it can bring a feeling of contentment and exhilaration, but it can’t bring real hope. Financial stability can not bring true hope; it can bring security and a level of ease, but not true hope. A spouse can’t bring true hope either because a spouse’s abilities are limited to what he or she can control. True hope comes from the One who created hope: From God! Never bow to Peer Pressure! - Exodus 32:1-14If, just like Aaron was, you are experiencing peer pressure, I think it's important to understand that you are not alone. Dealing with peer pressure can be difficult, but there are some ways to help address this pressure:First take Your Time - Instead of quickly agreeing to do something you'd rather not do, pause, and take a few deep breaths. It's easier to resist the pressure when you put some time and space between yourself and the situation.Second, consider Your Reasons - When you're faced with a choice, ask yourself what your reasons are for doing something. If it's because you're afraid your peers might exclude you if you don't do what they ask, then you may want to reconsider. Eating with Urgency – Exodus 12:1-14Passover was a holiday designed to celebrate Israel’s deliverance from Egypt and to remind the people of what God had done.In killing the lamb, the Israelites shed innocent blood. From this point on, the Hebrew people would clearly understand that for them to be spared from death, an innocent life had to be sacrificed in their place. And so, in a sense the first Passover resembles Jesus’ Last Supper. For us as Christians, the occasion of the Passover meal naturally reminds us of Jesus' Last Supper. Even in New Testament times, the earliest Christians had already begun to identify Jesus as "our paschal lamb."If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.comIf you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.comWe feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. But if you would like to be a part of this ministry and support the creation of these videos with a gift, please e-transfer your gift to: giving@ustepin.com(please note that no tax receipts will be issued)

This week we're following Moses as he encounters a burning bush. Moses fled Egypt when he was about 40 years old... Moses eventually lands in Midian where he settles down as son-in-law to a priest named Jethro, he was married and had two sons and he began a new career as a shepherd… this lasted another 40 years. By the time Moses met that burning bush he must have been about 80 years old. At this point Moses had spent half of his life as a prince and half of his life as a shepherd. What a contrast!

Come close to me! - Genesis 45:1-15 When Joseph said:"Come close to me!" he was opening his arms for reconciliation with his brothers, after all Judah, one of Joseph’s brothers, had accepted full responsibility for Benjamin’s safety... Judah had courageously defended himself and his brothers and pleaded for mercy. He even offered to put himself in Benjamin’s place… He had proved that the brothers had changed. There are times when we should be silent… but there are also times when we need to speak up, even if there is a chance of serious repercussions… When we are faced with a situation that requires a strong voice… and courageous action… remember Judah… and speak up

God’s Will moves the heart - Genesis 37:1-4,12-28

How and why does jealousy start? - Jealousy falls under the tenth commandment to not covet. Jealousy is the noun that relates to the state of being jealous: “feeling resentment against someone because of that person's rivalry, success, or advantages.

While it may seem trivial to be worried about an emotion like jealousy, it often leads people to act out in ways that are harmful to themselves or others. Understanding what jealousy is, and recognizing it, can help shape the way believers respond to it, and thereby strengthening their walk with God.

What is your Name? - Genesis 32:22-31 In this passage Jacob is on his way to try to be reconciled with Esau. One of the hardest things for people to do is to reconcile with each other, whether trivial molehills, or serous mountains have torn them apart. Far too often, either one side or both, will try to keep the upper hand over the other. In all our relations with each other, humility is needed, humility is essential; because even on those rare days when we might not be in the “wrong”, we are still in need of the same loving mercy that only comes through submitting ourselves to Christ.

Esau swore an oath, thereby selling all his rights as the firstborn to his brother, Jacob. Genesis 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew. Esau ate the meal, then got up and left”. … So, what is the lesson here? … Well, we can easily fall into the same trap, when we see something, we want, our first impulse seems to always be… to get it… and get it NOW! You might call this freedom of will… but, that is not necessarily God’s will. At first, we feel intensely satisfied and sometimes even powerful because we have obtained what we set out to get… But here regret might set in quickly, because: as it says: immediate pleasure often loses sight of the future…

The problem with promises is that you have to trust them. You have to believe that they will be fulfilled and live as if you believe that they will be fulfilled, before they can do you any good. But we don't like to do that. We are cautious people. We want something to be thoroughly proven before we will believe that it is true

A Triumphal entry: God’s Way - Matthew 21:1-16Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Jesus’ entry reflects the roman practice of welcoming a king or general. A crowd hails Jesus as king. They spread cloaks on the ground and wave branches. They chant Psalm 118:25 which praises God for victory over the nations. Yet there are significant differences. Jesus rides not a war horse but an everyday beast of burden, a donkey. Crowds of common folks welcome him. There were no speeches of welcome from the leaders of Jerusalem. Jesus does not portray a high-class figure. He is not authorized by the dominant ruling power. Today's message is titled: "The Key"Scripture Deuteronomy 30:15-20 (NLT)Deuteronomy takes us to a very challenging truth: Our world favors and rewards individualism, autonomy, and independence. So much so, that we often don’t see the necessity of connectedness, community, and dependence on God. God talks to us about this not only in the Old Testament, but we also see a resistance, even a flat rejection of Jesus’ teachings in the New Testament and that got me thinking about how we live in our culture, in our society today. You will bring Glory to His Name! - Romans 1:1-7The apostle Paul knew how important it was to write a letter to the Jews in Rome, for them to learn of the centrality of faith, of becoming a Christian and of living the Christian life. Welcome One Another - Romans 15:1-13During this season of Advent, do we expectantly wait for the visit of baby Jesus? Do we open the door wide? Or do we carefully close it because we feel our home is not ready to accept him? Or do we just sit there doing nothing and still expect to be welcomed into the house of the Lord? Come, let us Go! - Isaiah 2:1-5 The first Sunday of Advent, the Sunday of Peace, the Candle of Hope. It's a time not of getting into a frenzied rush to gather presents for a single day of gift opening. Rather Advent is a time to slow down, to reflect, to allow our anticipation for the coming of the Lord to grow. The first 5 verses of Isaiah chapter 2 are a ray of hope during a desperate time, surrounded by dire warnings of things to come.

In today's Scripture the disciples comment on the magnificence of the temple in Jerusalem. In total that building project lasted around 83 years. Apparently only the best available materials were used. Gold plating everywhere, huge marble slabs, intricate design work. I'd love to have seen what that looked like, don't you? But all that description and detail about the temple in Luke only served to highlight those two minims a widow dropped in the offering box. Be Happy! Yes, leap for Joy! - Luke 6:20-31 Luke provides us with an astonishing idea, it’s simply this: the value of your life will not be determined by how many years you live. It will be determined by how you used the years you were fortunate to live. Did you know that the average life expectancy during Jesus' time wasn't much more than 35 years?

Today's message is titled: Learn To Do Good - Isaiah 1:10-18 As I read this passage, I was amazed how harshly Isaiah was blasting both the Northern and the Southern Kingdoms. It got me thinking and asking about how we might compare with them, as people, as churches, as nations today? And then there's Zacchaeus, did you notice Jesus "looked up" at him, said: "come down" and finally Zacchaeus "stood before" the Lord? I thought that really taught me something.

I'm thinking that in a 1-way mirror we see ourselves as we want others to see us, but in a 3-way mirror we might get to see ourselves as others see us.

Where is your Attitude? - Jeremiah 31:27-34 Did you know, that God promises to write His law on the hearts of the people. This It offers all of us a unique personal relationship with God himself, with His laws written on individual’s hearts instead of on stone as in the old covenant. To take the covenant and have it inscribed on your heart represents an act of willing acceptance rather than an imposition. All this requires that we check our attitudes.

One thing that stood out for me in this passage (among other things) was that there's indication of an argument going on between two believers. Paul is pushing for them to resolve their differences. There's a sense of urgency in this. After all, if they are both listed in The Book of Life. We need to consider, if we have an argument with someone who is also a believer...we will be spending a long time together with them in eternity. Better to find reconciliation sooner rather than too late.

Don’t let your hearts be troubled - 2 Timothy 1:1-14 There are two things that stand out for me today: The first: God answers all prayer, but sometimes God answers our "NO" with a "YES" to give us what we really need. and the second: When you use the gifts, God has given you, you will find that God will give you the power you need to accomplish whatever task He gives you and never doubt that God gives all Christians gifts to use to build up the body of Christ.

A Spoon Or a Ladle - Matthew 25:40-46 I have to admit that parts of today's message are part of a sermon that I gave about 9 years ago in a small inner-city, high-needs church. Some parts of this sermon just seemed to stick with me, and I felt the Lord prompting me to tell this story again. So I wonder. Have you ever had a spoon and a ladle in your hands at the same time? Have you noticed how you use the spoon to feed yourself and how you use the ladle to serve? Well, that's what today's message is about. Serving ourselves versus serving others. Hope And Dignity - Philemon 1-21 Have you ever watched yourself when you received a letter? OK, so admittedly some of us don’t receive letters anymore, it’s all digital… but for those of us who do receive letters, how do you react, what do you do? Especially a handwritten letter. What comes to mind first? Well, here’s what I most often do: first I check who sent it. Then I check if it really is addressed to me. Then I open it and quickly scroll through the content, just to catch a phrase or key words, that give me a clue, of what the content of the letter might be about. But, every once in a while, when I actually read such a letter carefully and in detail, I find that it contains a different story than I first assumed when I scanned it. I wonder how Philemon felt when he received his letter?

I’ve found that hospitality doesn't always need to be as extravagant as a gourmet meal. Sometimes you see hospitality in a simple smile, or lingering for a few minutes with a friend to catch up, or helping someone in need. These are all simple ways we can show hospitality. Don't Refuse To Listen - Hebrews 12:18-29 Today's message is really all about listening. In particular as I focus on Hebrews 12:25 where it says: 25 Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. That sounds like a warning if I’ve ever heard one. Of course if you look closely, you can see, that when you shorten "don't refuse to listen" and take out the implied double negative, you get: "LISTEN!" and grammatically it seems to be in the imperative!

What is faith? Well: First, faith provides a guarantee, the peg on which we hang our hopes and second faith is that it moves us forward. Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. DO you agree?

Learn To Know Your Creator - Colossians 3:1-11 Maybe these 11 verses are not what you would have expected of Paul? Maybe you didn’t expect Paul to say something like this? Maybe you didn’t expect Paul to be so harsh? Maybe it makes you uncomfortable and maybe that is just exactly what you needed to hear. A few days ago we looked up and took in the immensity of the sky, then when you look down and you see what is in front of you, when you see a beautiful view, a cliff with a green carpet full of trees, and the river beneath, the lake in the distance, a bridge crossing the river. That moment became a time stop, to pause, to breath and to pray. It became a moment to remember to be thankful to our Lord for all He has made. I was tempted to re-post a number of photos from the James Webb telescope, just looking at them puts me in awe at what our Lord has made!

Often the Lord will take us in directions we don’t expect. Today’s message really represents such an occurrence. I didn’t think to go in this direction at all:

Let me ask you: Have you known a special person, mentor, guide at some point in your life? Someone who impacted your life, being a good example, someone who impacted you by loving others, serving others with a smile and kindness, with compassion, and love? If you have memories of such a person, are you grateful for what they taught you? And do you now still remember to pray for them?

Today's message takes us back to Galatians again. The title: We Harvest What We Plant - Galatians 6:1-10 and also 11-18 Everyone needs a certain amount of approval from another. But those who go out of their way to secure honors or to win popularity for themselves often become conceited and show that they are not following the Holy Spirit’s leading. After all, those who look to God for approval won’t need to envy others. Some things Paul reminds us of are: 4 Pay careful attention to your own work... 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct. 8b ...but those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. When we believers lose the motivation to love, we so very easily become critical of others. We stop looking for the good in them and do our best to only see their faults. Then, and soon, we lose our unity. So, when you begin to feel critical about someone - just stop yourself and instead make an effort, maybe even make a list of that person’s positive qualities and focus your attention on those. Maybe even make an effort to pray earnestly for them…

Keeping the law should not be a mere intellectual formality. We are to obey God's law, not to obtain salvation, but to live in ways pleasing to God. Just to be clear, if you are looking for salvation, there is only one way to find it and John quotes what Jesus said about that in John 14:6: 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. " That, is the way of salvation and I believe that this fact needs to be firmly anchored in our hearts.

Almost 33 years ago we as a family were driving around for days looking for a church that suited us. We had just moved into a new area… We were asking the Lord to guide us where to worship Him. And one day as we were driving, all of a sudden, we all said and agreed, yes, this is the church. This is the church where the Lord wants us to worship Him... So, on Sunday we went to that church and as the service started this song is what they sang: “How Majestic Is Your Name O Lord, our Lord. How majestic is Your Name in all the earth" The lyrics of that song really moved our hearts and with tears of adoration we sang, my wife and I looked at each other and said: “This is home!”

Our culture more than any other before seems to insist: “Be gracious to me.” We need to get out of the idolatry of “me”, we need to get to the point, to move to the point of caring enough for the other that we instead say : “Be gracious to you.” But even better than that, would be to simply go and join hands and together ask: “Be gracious to us.” So, remember, God's blessings, God's plans are for and include all of us!

But, I believe that for all of us, this is a time to strengthen our endurance and maybe strengthen our faith. Today's message is titled: Believe And Trust - John 20:19-31 I don’t know about you, but I feel we often associate believing with our “heads” and trusting with our “hearts”. Here is where you come to realize, that to experience Belief or Trust” is not enough. The most important thing that Christian Faith says is that the Cross and the Resurrection were one event. This means, while you may not have chosen your suffering, but you don't have to stay there. God sent his Son into our suffering, so that we would not have to stay there. God resurrected Jesus because he wants us to live again. He wants us to get out of whatever depths of despair we might find ourselves in. This is how Christian Faith says it: “You cannot endure the cross without expecting a resurrection”

May our Lord bless you abundantly on this day! - Today's message is titled: Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands! - from Luke 22:14-71 and Luke 23:1-56, The message is a bit different in that I will spend most of the time today simply reading from God‘s Word, from the Bible. Normally I would take a small section of Scripture and speak about that, but today the Lord seems to have told me to simply read His Word and this starts us at Palm Sunday, and quickly takes us right past that to all the happenings afterwards... One week after Palm Sunday, after all those “Hosannas”, Jesus, the son of God would be dead, and his death would be the result of the demands of his own people, many of whom were probably right there among the crowd shouting “Hosanna” on Palm Sunday… After all that Jesus had done, some of the religious leaders were scared, envious, or maybe, just maybe Jesus had disrupted their security blankets, revealed their sham, and worst of all - opposed their authority, hurt their egos. So, they started preparing a new plan.

In Ephesians 2:4 I found two words, two beautiful words where we see the grace of God, where we see His love, where we realize, He didn’t make us so that we would perish. Psalm 32, a song full of joy, but it also points out an issue many of us need to deal with. we need to decide. Today's message is titled: "I have decided" . I think the best example for "I have decided" is in Luke 15 where Jesus tells the parable of the prodigal son. You remember, right? Youngest son gets dad to give him his inheritance and then takes off into a foreign land and parties until money runs out and a famine comes. He hires out to earn food, working with pigs. Even their food looks good to him... Then he makes a decision, admits his shame and guilt and sin, returns to dad looking to be a servant, but dad receives him with open arms. He decided.

Repent - Clean The Stain - 1 Corinthians 10: 1-13 While we are looking at Cleansing and Stain as key words relating to repentance today, there's something I learned again today and that is that the Lord is faithful. He will not allow temptation to be more than we can stand. When we are tempted, He will show us a way out so that we can endure. We do our best to provide a new message every week. Repentance, The Turning Point! - Philippians 3:17 - 4:1 In everyone’s life there is a turning point. A crucial moment that defines our existence. If you have lived that experience… Do you remember when and where this happened? Did you kind of retreat into a secluded place and reflect on your own life and ask questions? Before Exodus 34, when I look at Exodus 32, it reminds me a bit of our current: “instant gratification” culture. When the people had to wait, and not all THAT long, coupled with uncertainty, (after all they didn’t know what had happened to Moses on the mountain). Well, what would we do? We’d likely lose patience and go our own way most times, right? Well, the Israelites lost patience and they committed their infamous folly of making a golden calf. Moses smashes the tablets God had given him, and then did a repeat on the mountain, then he came down again and... shone.

Reconciliation between Joseph and his brothers? - Genesis 45:3-11,15 In a matter of hours, God brought Joseph from prison rags to the glorious outfit of a high government official. But his training for this important position involved being first a slave and then also a prisoner... And then after many years his brothers stand before him... Like a tree’s roots reaching living water - Jeremiah 17:5-10 Over the last few messages, I’ve talked about reconciliation three different ways First with God, second with others, third with ourselves and now it’s not only reconciliation with God, reconciliation with people, reconciliation with yourself, that I’m talking about, now comes the thought, that we might need reconciliation with God's creation, the land, the earth. God offers his friendship freely to all, … but incredible as it is… many people reject God’s friendship because they think it means "religion"… “Religion” is man-made, I’m not talking about that… I’m talking about having a relationship with God… which is simple… just as any friendship should be. Word Of The LORD - Jeremiah 1:4-10 -19C and -28C windchill... That was Saturday where we live. I pray that everyone was and is able to stay warm. Have you ever wondered why I use the phrase: "Word of the LORD" after I read Scripture? Well, the title for today's message is: Word Of The LORD and I'm looking at: Jeremiah 1:4-10 In the NIV Bible you will find that often the statement used to title a prophecy is the phrase: "the Word of the LORD." and you will find that this phrase was used 4 times in the first chapter of Jeremiah. This statement was used and is used to confirm something as absolutely the truth. As I'm preparing this message, I'm looking outside and thank God, that I don't have to travel far these days. It's so cold that our dog doesn't even feel like walking too much. Today's message is titled: "Tears Of Joy" and I'm looking at Nehemiah 7:73b, 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10 You know, so often when we talk, when we read the Bible, when we try to interpret what we've read, we try to insert our own human interpretations into the Bible according to what we think is right. But, I think most times we just simply miss the mark...

A New Name - Isaiah 62:1-5 Maybe in this passage we are reminded that God created the earth and everything in it and that God said it was good. Maybe, just maybe, He’s reminding us that He made us stewards to look after the land, to care for it, to protect it and to treat it well. But since it’s us: there is abuse in the land, there is injustice, war, there are machines that destroy what God had created. Happy New Year! May the Lord bless you richly with love, hope, peace and joy this year! Let me ask you about the cross: It is made up of 2 pieces of wood. One vertical and one horizontal. In my eyes our reconciliation with God is vertical… it’s our intimate and direct relationship with Him… right? But what about that other piece of wood? Should we ignore it? Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad! Frohe Weihnachten! May the best of Christmases be yours today, may the Lord our Savior surround you with family and friends, with joy, fellowship, peace, hope and love. May He be present at your table and in your hearts and wherever you gather!

The title: Jesus Is Here - A collage of John, Matthew and Luke. Just imagine: Mary and Joseph make their way through the crush of people seeking a place in Bethlehem to stay for the night. Mary was definitely showing. She’s well advanced in her pregnancy and there are those Jewish laws about being clean or unclean. Those laws kind of eliminated any Inn as a place that would allow Mary lodging. After all, pretty well everyone in the Inn would be considered unclean if she stayed there.

It's the 3rd of Advent. The Sunday of Joy! And here we are in Luke chapter 3. Right in the middle of a harangue... And to think: We are so taken with the image of Jesus' compassion. After all, that is what we want to hear in this “no-fault” society we live in.. But make no mistake: Everyone, everyone has to make a personal decision of whether or not to trust Christ! Everyone and I really mean everyone will at some point stand before God the Father for an accounting... It's the second Advent already. I'm constantly amazed at how fast time flies. Next thing you know and it's Christmas. I pray that today's message helps get us on the track. A Message - Luke 3:1-6 Today we lit the peace candle. I hope you might remember this: that the peace we talk about is not necessarily peace here on earth, of course it’s what we hope for… but it’s the peace that we have within ourselves, the peace that can only come from knowing our Lord, the peace that passes all understanding, the peace we can feel because we have Jesus, we belong to Him! Will we follow a thread of longing, the hint of an alternative pathway? Sisters and brothers in Christ, Advent awaits us! Let us place our feet on the road and begin the journey.

He Opened the Way into the Presence of God! Hebrews 9:1, 10-14 The place of worship for many today will be a new place, a virtual place... But, for many others, it remains a place rooted in the center of a community, hemmed in by its neighbors, bearing witness to the vitality of town centers and city streets that once were vital centers of urban life. In some cases it's indistinguishable from homes... or tents.

Many times, I’ve asked those with me to bow down their heads, and with hands clasped, eyes closed and with words spoken softly and gently, lifting a prayer, lifted up for this need, or for that person, or for those in trouble or with an affliction. I would ask for a need, a want, for those in despair… sometimes for some-one or for some-many. I’d voice a hope that God will intervene, help, safeguard, or assist. Then, with these needs and wants laid before God, the prayer ends with: "In Jesus' name I pray. Amen." That's it; that's the Invisible Assurance we have that God will hear us, for this prayer is being offered in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is the one interceding for us before the throne of God.

I've spoken about prayer a number of times and today God prompted me to go there again and so the title of the sermon is:You should Pray! and I'm focusing on James 5:13-20. In James 5, the author says: “you should Pray!” I don’t see those words either as a suggestion or a maybe… but I see these words as an exhortation with divine authority. This is something we should be doing! Prayer should happen every day, and as many times as needed, which really is all the time!

Today's message takes us back into the book or epistle of James. I find a lot of encouragement, but also a lot of admonition in these chapters, so I hope you find the same in today's message: Plant Seeds Of Peace And Purify Your Hearts - James 3:13-18, 4:1-3,7-8 What you say and what you don’t say are both important. You must not only say the right words at the right time… but also not say what you shouldn’t. Wisdom dictates that before you speak you remember, that words are like a fire that you can neither control - nor reverse the damage they can do. https://youtu.be/OjI9Ng7ibnM

Today's message is titled: "Where, Why, And How We Praise The Lord". We live in His invisible assurance that all of creation is secured by His eternal truth.

His Prized Possession - James 1:17-27 Martin Luther made critical remarks about this book, calling it an “epistle of straw” Luther’s critique was born because he distinguishes between two very different kinds of divine authority, between, law and gospel, the authority of Moses versus the authority of Christ.

A thought really hit me as I was preparing for this sermon: Here's the thought: That we should not ask God to do for us what he wants to do through us? Think about it. Today's message is titled: To be filled! and I'm looking at 1st Kings 19:4-8 Often discouragement sets in after great spiritual experiences, especially those requiring physical effort or involving great emotion. Today's message asks a question. It's the question the crowd asked Jesus when they found Him again after He had fed them. What should we do? – that was the question they asked Jesus. They wanted to do exciting things! But, were their hearts in the right place? Jesus replied quite clearly what God wants from them and that is the key, that goes for us too. Jesus said: "Believe in the one he has sent.” And that is it! That's all God requires of us to be with Him in eternal life.

After all, Sheep are relatively defenseless animals… and I guess, from that point of view… so are we.

You’ve probably read it or heard it many times: “For when I am weak, then I am strong” to me this sounds so much like a taste of God’s Grace. "Just have faith!" and I'm looking at Mark 5:21-25 and 30-43. One of the reasons people tend to see faith as a religion about God, instead of a relationship with God, is because they have the sense that they are not worthy of the attention of an Almighty God... Many say: "My problems are too small for God to care about." - But Jesus says: “don’t be afraid… just have faith.”
