Welcome to our podcast series 'Wearing the Red & Green'. This series features in-depth interviews with former players, managers, officials and supporters of Windsor & Eton FC on their time wearing the red and green.
Eton. A career that saw him spend over 20 years as player and manager at Met Police, together with a recent spell in charge of Enfield Town.
Green' I speak to our former forward Keith Beckett. Keith joined the club back in the late 1970s, and we discuss his time Stag Meadow - including those Athenian League wins, cup and Vase runs, the filming of Yesterday's Hero and him tripping up Ian McShane, and just why he preferred training to playing.
Green' I speak to our former reserve team manager Steve Roberts. Robbo was arguably our most successful ever reserve team manager, not only because of his Suburban League Cup win, but with the number of young players who progressed on up into the 1st team. We discuss life as a reserve team manager, that League Cup winning squad, and just why he switched around the complete team, including playing goalkeeper Paul Frame up front, in a league game against Basingstoke Town!
Green' I speak to our former striker Stuart Walsh. Walshy was a prolific goalscorer for our successful reserve side of the early 90s and we discuss his years at Windsor, from signing as a 16 year old, the high and lows of reserve team football, his frustration at fewer first team opportunities that many felt he deserved, through to his wider career at Marlow, Egham and others.
In this special Boxing Day episode of ‘Wearing the Red and Green’ I’ve posed another question for a group of supporters: “If you could share Christmas dinner with any three former players or managers, who would it be, and what would you ask them?” Enjoy the responses!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I caught up with former midfielder Terry Merriman. Terry was a combative midfielder under Alf Coulton in the late 80s and early 90s. We chat through his time at Stag Meadow, that FA Cup free kick against Dover Athletic, his time at Coventry City where he enjoyed some great tussles with Paul Gascoinge in the FA Youth Cup, and much, much more.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to Kieren Adams, a former midfielder from the early 2000s. Shaggy, as he was affectionately known, was a pivotal member of Dennis Greene's successful squad and we chat through his time at Stag Meadow, his memories, the strength of that squad, and his footballing journey both pre (including coming up against the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard) and post Windsor.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red and Green' I speak to our former physio Angela Di Benedetto. Ange was a physio at the club for 8 seasons and we discuss what life was like as physio at Stag Meadow, who were some of her favourite players to treat, and of course, who were the sick notes!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to Mr Windsor & Eton, Malcolm Williams. Aside from chairman, there’s probably not one single role at the club he hasn’t undertaken! We discuss, all those roles, which was his favourite, who his favourite manager was as kitman, which player was the highest maintenance, and who makes his all time favourite Windsor & Eton XI?

John, our second member of the BBC to join the show, was a regular at Stag Meadow before his career took off behind the mic. We discuss, his time watching Windsor in the early 80s, his time joint editing the matchday programme, his time as kitman, and his reporting days today for the BBC!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to our former chairman Steve Gillham. Steve had been a supporter of Windsor & Eton from his childhood back in the 1950s, and we discuss his journey from supporter through to becoming chairman in the early 1990s. We discuss the dark times of those relegations and the hard work undertaken to save the club when it encountered those financial challenges back in 1992. We also talk managers and his reappointment of the great Alf Coulton, the appointment of Alan Davies and the manager that was so close to taking over, but sadly got away…
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to our former goalkeeper Kieron Drake. Drakey played a season at Stag Meadow in the mid 2000s, and we discuss a number of brilliant stories from that season - yes we do talk through the borrowing of Ralph Little's car, and of course THAT goal! - and we chat through his long career at a number of local clubs.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to former midfielder Keith White. Chalky enjoyed four seasons at Stag Meadow in the late 80s and early 90s. We discuss his time at Stag Meadow, plus his 10+ years at Slough Town, where he played in a number of their big FA Cup runs and managed to score a hat-trick of free kicks in a league game at Dulwich Hamlet!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to our former defender Jason Cousins. Jason, spent over 10 years at Wycombe Wanderers, before embarking on a second stint in non-league football. We discuss his time at Adams Park, including that goal at Wembley, that FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool and yes, that tackle! And of course, we chat through his season at Stag Meadow, a season (2003/04) that promised so much.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to former sports reporter of the Windsor Observer, Ron Chakraborty. Ron covered the Royalists in the mid 1990s. We discuss our famous 1995/96 promotion run, life as a sports reporter pre-internet, smart phone and email as we know it today, through to his current role as Head of Major Events & General Sport at BBC Sport - a role that over the years has seen Windsor & Eton often discussed in the halls of the BBC!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I’m joined by former players Micky Barnes and Steve Baynes to look back at our famous FA Trophy run in the 1988/89 season. It was a run that saw us knock out holders Enfield at Stag Meadow and exit in a replay to Manchester-based Hyde United on a plastic pitch in the last 16.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to our former manager Simon Lane. Simon took over as manager following the club’s relegation from the Premier Division in 2006. We discuss his time in charge at Stag Meadow, the impressive squad he built up, his departure and his journey since then up to his present role joint managing Hayes and Yeading.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to former manager Alan Davies. Alan was at the helm at Stag Meadow from 1994 through to 2000 - a period where he turned the fortunes of the club around after that spell of 3 successive relegations in the early 90s. The highlight of Alan's time in charge was of course that brilliant 1995/96 promotion season. We discuss not only his years at Windsor but also his playing days and life in the dugout pre-Windsor at local rivals Slough Town, who he of course, took in to the Vauxhall Conference for the first time in their history.

In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to former defender Jamie Furmage. 'Shimmer' enjoyed three spells at Stag Meadow and was an important member of the squad that enjoyed our famous FA Trophy run back in the 2002/03 season. We discuss each of those spells at Windsor and what it was like to represent your home town club.

Wallo shares some great stories from not only his time at Stag Meadow, but also his journey from a youth team player at Southampton, and cleaning the boots of the likes Glenn Hoddle and David Hurst, to trying to secure a contract at other League clubs, to the highs and lows of transitioning into non-league football.

In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' we look back at our FA Cup 1st Round Proper tie against Neil Warnock's Burton Albion back in the 1983/84 season, a game which to many was our best ever victory in the FA Cup. Joe, was one of the first names on Keith & Jim's team sheet in the early 2000s, as the side went on to win the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup and promotion back to the Premier Division. We will of course discuss those successes, but we also chat through his favourite Jim Melvin bollockings and find out how, if at all, he rated Scotty's pin-stripe suits!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to Rob Lippiatt, son of the late Colin Lippiatt and nephew, of our former manager Brian Caterer. Rob shares some brilliant stories about his Dad and Uncle - from their time at Stag Meadow and their deep affection of Windsor & Eton, to, in Colin's case, becoming one of the most successful managers and coaches in non-league football.

John was between the posts at Stag Meadow for the 1978/79 season, the season before the great Kevin Mitchell, and although his time at Windsor was only ever going to be for one season (ahead of him going to university), what a season it was... A League Cup final, an FA Vase run, an FA Cup run, and off the pitch - a season full of great stories! We discuss, what life was like under manager Brian Caterer - from letting the previous goalkeeper leave, to contract negotiations, FA Cup final tickets, to movie stardom! We cover it all. Oh and also, Italian shoes on sale in the back of the chairman's Rolls Royce and throwing up in training!
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to our former striker from the early 80s Steve Butler. Steve only spent a season at Stag Meadow, but post his career at Windsor he went on to make over 450 appearances in the Football League, representing the likes of Maidstone, Cambridge, Gillingham and Watford. We discuss that season at Windsor, life in the Army and memories from his impressive professional career.
In this episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' it was an absolute privilege to speak with our former striker Simon Garner. Simon is best known for being Blackburn Rovers’ all time record goal scorer, where In over 500 games for the Lancashire club, he scored just shy of 200 goals. In week’s episode of 'Wearing the Red & Green' I speak to Mike Warth, brother of former striker Terry Warth, who was a prolific goal scorer at Stag Meadow in the 1960s. Terry sadly passed away last year, but Mike and I discuss Terry’ career at Stag Meadow, what he loved about Windsor, his spells at Maidenhead and Slough, and his youth team years at Reading - where he once played against the likes of Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst!

We discuss their periods at Stag Meadow, their careers in professional football, how Gary got to play against the full England side at Wembley Stadium and how Phil eventually got to play for his beloved Newcastle United.

Kevin’s various spells at Windsor spanned from the late 1970s through to that winning FA Vase goal away at Folkestone Invicta in 1995. We discuss League titles, FA Cup runs, his disappointment at being suspended for the FA Vase semi-final at Whickham, together with his trial up at Newcastle United.

We discuss his time at Stag Meadow, that famous 6-2 win against Slough, and his belief that he really is taller than 5ft3!

Barry, spent over 35 years on Match of the Day, he commentated on 10 World Cups and 17 Olympic Games. This episode was a real privilege to record and we discuss countless stories from Barry’s life behind the microphone, his time as president of Windsor & Eton and how his appreciation of non-league football began, while following Finchley, back in their Athenian League days.

Fergie, was a real favourite at Stag Meadow, and we discuss his appreciation of the Windsor faithful, chanting ‘you’ll never beat the Fergie’, to his memories of that memorable promotion season under Byron Walton, that fabulous FA Trophy campaign under Dennis Greene and some stories from his days pre-Windsor, where he enjoyed some incredible FA Cup runs.

Pitch, was a fans favourite at Stag Meadow and I suspect, the only Windsor & Eton player to have ever had a t-shirt produced to celebrate a goal he’d scored. To be fair, it was his only goal in the 118 we scored in the league that season! We discuss, that goal, the famous promotion season of 1995/96, and what it meant to him, to pull on the Red and green.

Jeff, was a mainstay of our midfield in the 1980s, and we discuss all of those big FA Cup games, his encounter with Graham Rix and Arsenal, his huge admiration and respect for Alf Coulton and just why he believes, Windsor & Eton, was a truly magical club.

Barts joined the club as a 15 year old and went on to spend over 10 years at Stag Meadow, progressing through the reserves and into the first team. We discuss the grounding he had in that successful reserve team under Steve Roberts and Derek Sweetman, his time as one of the first names on the team sheet under Alan Davies, that memorable 1995/96 promotion season and what made that squad so special.

Christened the Colonel by supporters, Keith guided the club to its last ever Berks & Bucks Senior Cup and League title winning season. We discuss, his professional career - including that goal at Anfield, his time at Stag Meadow where we reminisce on those successes, the off-field challenges he had to incur as manager, and we lay to rest some of the unsubstantiated myths that have wrongly been thrown in his direction, over the years. In this episode of Wearing the Red Green I speak to Damian Spencer and Morgaro Gomis, two players who begun their careers at Stag Meadow. We discuss their journey into professional football, that hat trick away at Edgware, that 30 yard screamer away at Staines Town, through to games against Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Alan Shearer. Oh, and an infamous dog toy!
In the latest episode of wearing the 'Red & Green' I speak to former midfielder Micky Hill. Micky was a brilliant midfielder at Stag Meadow throughout the 1960s and 70s and we discuss some of the great stories from his playing days including, the story of when a then Windsor manager didn't follow up the chance of signing Peter Osgood, and a youth team game against the mighty Ajax, which may or not of have featured, the great Johan Cruyff!

Tilbs, was a stalwart at Stag Meadow throughout the 2000s and we discuss how he learnt some of those dark arts of defending, that tackle on Jon Case, together with a number of his favourite memories wearing the Red & Green.
In this episode of Wearing the Red & Green, I speak to former defender Ian 'Knocker' Richards. Knocker was a firm fans favourite. He was a Windsor lad who supported from the terraces in the 70s and early 80s, played in the youth team, reserves, before going on to play over 300 times for the first team. We recount some great stories from his playing days, and discuss why one local newspaper dubbed him, Michel Platini!

In his time at Stag Meadow, Chenns scored over 120 goals and we discuss a number of those goals, a number of his most memorable games, the team's infamous night out in Truro, his trial at Brentford, and the injustice, of the only red card of his career.

We discuss his memories of playing at Stag Meadow, those FA Cup runs of the early 80s, marking Tony Woodcock in those games against Arsenal and what made that back four at Windsor, so special.

During the late 2000s, the brothers helped us to Berks & Bucks Cup success and promotion back to the Premier Division. We discuss their time at Stag Meadow and I ask Jake what it was like to play in, what was to become, our final ever fixture.
In this week's episode I speak to our record goalscorer Chris Yates. In 8 years at Stag Meadow Chris scored over 190 goals for Windsor. We discuss a number of those goals, his love for Windsor & Eton, his dual with the legendary Chopper Harris and why he turned down that offer from Harry Redknapp's AFC Bournemouth.

Woodsy was everything you want in a captain and it was little surprise that he was once named players' player of the year 5 years in a row.
