In the latest installment of the Allison Interviews Podcast, journalist and host Allison Kugel talks with NBA legend Muggsy Bogues. With his unique ball handling skills and 44-inch vertical, while he never dunked in an NBA game, Muggsy could dunk a ball. After initially playing for the then Washington Bullets, the expansion draft that occurred when the NBA added teams for the 1988-89 season put Bogues where he belonged, with the Charlotte Hornets.
He quickly became a fan favorite in Charlotte, North Carolina, especially with younger fans. He raised his points-per game average to ten in the 1992-93 season and helped lead the Hornets to their first ever appearance in the NBA playoffs. They made the playoffs again in 1995. In 1997 Muggsy Bogues led with an assist per turnover ratio of 4.34. He was traded to the Golden State Warriors early in the 1997-98 season, but not before becoming the Charlotte Hornets’ all-time leader in both steals and assists, which he still holds today.
Muggsy Bogues’ storied career with the NBA lasted fourteen years, and to this day, he remains the shortest player to ever make it into the NBA. In 2014, Bogues was named as the Hornets Ambassador and Special Projects Advisor, a position he still serves today. Muggsy Bogues currently travels around the U.S. doing speaking engagements, and he and his daughter Brittney Bogues run the Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation. The Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation works to empower underserved youth and families to improve their quality of life through food security, access to education, and workforce development. The Foundation envisions equitable, thriving communities where everyone has a shot at a better life. Tova Friedman was one of the youngest people to emerge from Auschwitz. After surviving the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto in Central Poland where she lived as a toddler, Tova was four when she and her parents were sent to a Nazi labor camp, and almost six when she and her mother were forced into a packed cattle truck and sent to Auschwitz II, also known as the Birkenau extermination camp, while her father was transported to Dachau.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy talks with Allison about his childhood experience in Ukraine when it was under communist rule as part of the former USSR or Soviet Union during the 1980s, emigrating with his younger brother Val and his parents to Brooklyn, New York as a teenager, acclimating with American life, finding fame on Dancing with the Stars, being in Ukraine when Vladimir Putin invaded the country, and making his way back to the United States safely.

Actor Peter Facinelli is best known for his role as Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the blockbuster Twilight Saga films, and his role as Dr. Fitch Cooper on the hit Showtime series, Nurse Jackie, which aired from 2009 - 2015. The Unbreakable Boy is the true story of Austin LeRette (played by Jacob Laval), a boy born with a rare genetic brittle bone disease, autism, and an unbreakable spirit that makes the people around him better for having him in their lives. Randy Spelling grew up in a 56,000 square foot Holmby Hills mansion, listed at the time as the largest home of record in Los Angeles County. The son of Hollywood royalty, late mega-television producer Aaron Spelling and his wife Candy, and younger brother of 1990s 90210 television star, Tori Spelling, Randy struggled to find his own path and identity within a matrix of excess.
Falling prey to young Hollywood trappings, Spelling began going to clubs at age 13 and soon began using recreational substances as a substitute for self-confidence. It wasn’t until his father, Aaron’s, 2006 passing that Randy Spelling made some bold moves to remake his mind and his life. He got into therapy, got clean, settled down with wife, Leah, and relocated to Oregon where he has spent the last decade and a half helping people around the world identify their life’s purpose and push past limitations as an author, speaker, successful life coach and spiritual facilitator.

Dianna Agron took television fans on a multi-layered emotional ride playing complex popular girl, Quinn Fabray, on the hit television series Glee, which ran for seven seasons on FOX, and was nominated for and won multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, People’s Choice and Teen Choice Awards during its tenure. Singer-songwriter Skip Marley, born to the late Bob Marley’s daughter, Cedella Marley and David Minto, was thrown into the deep end of the Marley music legacy when his Uncle Stephen Marley brought him on stage a decade ago to sing one of his grandfather’s iconic hits, One Love in front of thousands of fans. Kadeem Hardison is an actor and director known for his iconic role as Dwayne Wayne on the NBC sitcom A Different World which aired from 1987 through 1993 and highlighted the lives and relationships of Black college students attending a fictional HBCU – Historically Black College and University, Hillman College. The show co-starred Lisa Bonet, Marisa Tomei, Jasmine Guy, Sinbad, Jada Pinkett Smith. Darryl M. Bell, Dawnn Lewis, Charnele Brown, Glynn Turman, and Cree Summer among others. During the show’s run, many famous guest stars appeared in episodes, including: Tupac Shakur, Tisha Campbell, Patti LaBelle and Heavy D among others.
Kadeem Hardison went on to star in movies and television shows including: White Men Can’t Jump, Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, K.C. Undercover, Black Monday and Teenage Bounty Hunters. Hardison can be seen next in the new upcoming AMC television series, Moonhaven, which also stars Joe Manganiello and takes place 100 years in the future in a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon. The plot centers around finding solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth.

As a racecar driver, Danica Patrick broke barriers and set records with her on-track performance. Danica joined the mainstream ranks by succeeding in the male-dominated world of professional motorsports. Danica was named to TIME’s “100 Most Influential People” list, has graced the cover of many prestigious publications and was featured in pictorials in the 2008 and 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 2005, Danica stunned the world by leading 19 laps and finishing fourth in her first Indianapolis 500. She became the first woman to lead laps and score a top-five finish in the historic race. In 2008, Danica made history again becoming the first woman to win a major-league open-wheel race in a North American series with her victory in the IndyCar Series Indy Japan 300 race.
In 2013, as Danica transitioned to the NASCAR Cup Series, she made headlines around the world with her record-setting performance in the 55th Daytona 500 race. She became the first woman to win a NASCAR Cup Series pole when she set the fastest time in qualifying 500 and then finished in eighth place, the highest finishing position ever for a woman in the “Great American Race.”
