It's been 2 weeks ~ so quick catch up to where I've been, how I've been doing, and this fear setting exercise that I wanted to share with y'all 2 weeks ago. I know that it'll be a lot more helpful for people who frequently lose sight of their goals and resolutions (that's me). I'm going to schedule another fear setting session with myself before 2021 is over. How about you?

My next guest for Off the Rails is my friend Ivanna Slim! I am excited to share bits of our conversation because she is an eloquent speaker, a super thoughtful person, and has a very strong and grounded energy about her that I love to be around.

In this episode, we talk a little bit about our own personal finance journey and I ask her how she would teach young kids about money. Ivanna is a first-grade teacher.

— about this episode — This episode is a continuation of the series “What makes a strong relationship?” Part 2 is titled "All Relationships are Different, and That Is Okay". I talk about the 3 truths in relationships, and share a couple of Instagram posts that really hit home for me. My YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/3cYmqya +++ @nedratawwab A little secret from a therapist: Relationships introduce you to yourself. Everyone you choose to be in a relationship with reflects who you believe you are, what you need to learn about yourself or resolve. In relationships, you can learn what you want more or less of. If you are aware, you can learn to overcome, shift, and become more of yourself. Repeat after me: Relationships teach me about myself. With each moment, I have a choice in who I am and who I want to become.

Signs that you might be ready to end a friendship:

You died spending time with your friend You constantly feel annoyed with your friend You’ve changed, and the relationship doesn’t fit who you are You avoid your friend’s calls/texts You’re reluctant to share any good news (or any news in general) with them You no longer have anything in common You’re tired of setting boundaries and not having them honored You’re no longer getting what you need

A little secret from a therapist: It hurts when the people you want to be seen by are your friends or family. No matter how hard you ry to show them who you are or how you’ve changed, some will see you based on what they want to perceive. Your job is to stop trying to convince people to see you differently. Accept that they are unwilling to shift their perspective. They have all the information they need to change their minds about who they think you are. Repeat after me: I know who I am. I can stop trying to convince others to see me differently. +++

— about this episode — This is a 3-episode series on what I think makes a strong relationship. In part 1, I talk about focusing on myself and my identity (and you should focus on yourself) and why I really do not care what people (including my friends) think about me.

THE TWEET THAT STARTED IT ALL @TaariqIsmail In Arabic, there are 12 levels of friendship. Most of our 'friends' are level 5 or below, and many of us don't have a single level 12 friend. Here are the levels: 1. Zameel - someone you have a nodding acquaintance with 2. Jalees - someone you’re comfortable sitting with for a period of time 3. Sameer - you have good conversation with them …this is where things get serious 4. Nadeem - a drinking companion (just tea) that you might call when you’re free 5. Sahib - someone who’s concerned for your wellbeing … now we’re in the real ranks of friendship 6. Rafeeq - someone you can depend upon. You’d probably go on holiday with them 7. Sadeeq - a true friend, someone who doesn’t befriend you for an ulterior motive 8. Khaleel - an intimate friend, someone whose presence makes you happy 9. Anees - someone with whom you’re really comfortable and familiar 10. Najiyy - a confidant, someone you trust deeply 11. Safiyy - your best friend, someone you’ve chosen over other friends 12. Qareen - someone who’s inseparable from you. You know how they think (and vice versa)

Welcome to Nuggets of Life with Juliet! That's me - I'm Juliet.

This podcast is filed under the "Personal Journals" category cause that's exactly what it will be. I imagine this to be a safe and comforting place where you can catch a breath or feel less alone in this crazy world and whatever it is going on in your life.

You can expect each episode to be less than 15 minutes long and cover a wide range of topics - this IS called Nuggets of Life after all. I already see myself recording on my travels like I am right now, through big life moments like deciding where to move next, and other things that are on my mind like personal finance, dating, cool product packaging. This podcast is like a microscope into my brain on the daily and it is wild in there.

My one ask for you who is listening: send me audio messages! It could be in response to something I am talking about, or some random thing that you're thinking about - I welcome the interaction and randomness. There will be a link to send these audio messages in each episode's show notes.

So if this is the kind of vibe you wanna roll with, please subscribe to wherever you are finding this podcast!
