In this episode, I talk about my ideas connecting breath to the realm of possibility & improvisation. I draw parallels between the state of readiness that a solid, full breath provides and the state of readiness that thankfulness similarly provides in life outside the lesson room. Grounding oneself to the goal of a healthy performance every time can mean connecting to breath more deeply both physically and spiritually. With deep intention, we build better technique and more fulfilling lives!

In this episode, I share how students watching themselves perform on screen during virtual lessons have been able to hold themselves accountable to their best posture and significantly improve their performance experience. There's nothing like arriving to the end of a performance feeling comfortable and sounding as close to how you want to sound along the way without slipping into unnecessary contortions that only make performing uncomfortable and less effective. Zoom became a conscious accountability partner to bring the best performer forward and , similarly, setting up opportunities for accountability in life help bring the best YOU forward. Let's think about it!

In this episode , I expound on the usefulness of returning to old repertoire later on in one's journey with their instrument. Experiencing old challenges with new skills can be restorative & confidence-boosting. Understanding life as a cycle and relationships as cyclical can be a similarly encouraging when the current skillset to navigate is under-developed. Listen to how I tie it all together!

In this episode, I ponder the concept of how often I encourage my students to 'be at home in their bodies' first before each phrase of music they wish to perform. Understanding how this idea of a 'body home' expands into every day conscious choices and patterns of living makes for an excellent pondering point & for deeper personal alignment.

I can't tell you how many relatively stable performances have been derailed, not by a mistake or accident, but by the spiral of negative self talk that immediately follows after. Listen to my thoughts on how that impacts learning in music and in life both from my perspective as a music teacher & as an eternal student.

This episode explores more deeply what lies at the root of pitch issues in a singer's voice & how it often has nothing to do with sound.

After teaching all day, I spent an evening pondering the impact of how feeling affects execution & realization in singing & in life. What feelings are YOU focusing on in your practice? In your sacred path in life?
