I discuss how Bard helped me to improve the clarity, conciseness, and keyword density of my post, as well as how it helped me to identify new topics to write about.
I also discuss the benefits of using a large language model to help with content creation. Bard is able to access and process vast amounts of information, which allows it to generate high-quality content that is relevant to the topic at hand. Additionally, Bard is able to learn and adapt over time, which means that it can become even more helpful as I continue to use it.

For nearly a year and a half I have been without gainful employment. This is mostly my fault because I have been strictly looking for remote work opportunities and that has turned out to be much harder than the current narrative makes it seem. We're told over and over that "the workforce is going remote", but my experience hasn't born that out. In the past year and a half I've had exactly one job interview, and that clearly didn't go well.

So for many years now, I've had this idea for a personal submarine that could be used for travelling around the world. Yes, I understand how crazy this sounds, especially given the horrible potential for drowning in something like that, but as a person who has always had a strong interest in submarines in general, it's something I've always thought about as an option for travelling in a different sort of way. Ever since I went on a Tiger Cruise with my biological father on the USS Tecumseh as a boy, I've always had submarines in the back of my mind. So I've been doing this rideshare thing for over a month now, and as you might expect I have some gripes about the current status quo. While it's awesome to be able to finally be my own boss and make money on my own, some of that feeling gets taken away by the way the platform I currently use, Lyft, chooses to operate. At first glance the issues seem pretty minor, but when you think about it a little deeper, you start to see the rather extreme manipulation that the people who run the company engage in to try and trick, or even force, their drivers into taking rides that just don't make sense.

One of the more interesting things I've encountered since beginning ride share driving several weeks ago is the apparent desire of both Lyft and Uber to convert their entire driver base to electric vehicles. It would apparently be a great thing for the environment as society in general becomes increasingly concerned about the whole global warming thing. It's no secret that I've been unemployed for quite a long time now. My previous job ran out in February and I was on unemployment for the six months that you get to find a new job. After months of holding out for something that more closely aligned with the kind of work I'd like to be doing, I started getting a bit less selective and began seriously considering going back to in person office jobs as the deadline to stop receiving my biweekly checks got closer. Then the injectors on my truck decided that they were going to fail on me, a nice $1500 or more expense I just don't have the fund for, and any kind of in person gig became once again not an option for me.

As far as we've come as human beings, dominating the world with our technology and ingenuity, it's amazing how simple some of the processes that rule us are. Psychologists and physiologists have demonstrated rather effectively that there are two levels to who we are as people: the well developed cognitive structures of our brains that are used for higher reasoning, and the more primitive basic structures that handle most of our automated bodily functions and our reactions to the world. One of the big things about my life really bothers me is that I'm about to turn forty and I still have absolutely no idea what the hell I'm going to do with my life. I did the military thing for a bit more than a decade, but ultimately the culture and constant demands wore me down. I've tried the office thing, but in the end I just don't have the patience or attention span to sit in an office doing a bunch of meaningless work all day and I end up going home filled with spite. I've been unemployed for six months now and the money is running out, so now I'm turning to doing ridesharing full time in an attempt to make some kind of decent living at something that hopefully doesn't make me crazy. Fortunately, I live in a city where that's something that is actually feasible...I think.

It's hard to know how many people actually follow my blog on a consistent basis. Sometimes I use the phrase "those of you who follow me regularly" with the assumption that a fair portion of the more than 250 listed followers actually read the content I used to put out on a fairly regular basis, but the metrics provided by Wordpress don't support that line of thinking. From the information I have available to me, I have to work based on the assumption that my articles reach not more than ten readers per post, with my videos typically only getting to one or two people.

Perhaps one of the most difficult things about being raised toward the beginning of the millennial generation is that you have two perspectives of the world that are constantly warring with one another. The first is the idea that we live in a world that has realistic limits and you have to learn to live within them. The second is that most of us spent out entire childhoods being told that we could be anything we wanted and have anything we wanted, and moreover we were entitled to having it all. These opposing messages obviously don't mesh very well, and can cause quite a bit of mind numbing contradictions if you try to listen to both sides.

One of the biggest lies that have been perpetrated in our modern culture is the idea that with more progress we end up having more choice. We see it in nearly every aspect of our lives, from clothing to food to entertainment and everything else. If you're talking about the sheer number of individual options available to you, then this is certainly a true statement. However, the reality is that out of the myriad options that might be available to us for one specific need, only two or three of them are actually reasonable and within what we would. This means that the illusion of a vast amount of choice isn't really all it's cracked up to be.

When you don't have a rigid schedule forcing your mind into specific patterns all day, it's much easier to come up with more random ideas and different ways to approach them. While I'm certainly not a fan of living on unemployment, I will say that it certainly helps with creativity. It has certainly unlocked one of the problems I have with the modern business model.

Over the course of the last year and a half or so, I've been trying to establish an online presence in the hope of turning my ability to write into something that can actually provide a sustainable living for the modest lifestyle I've come to enjoy. For the most part, it feels like I've been stymied by the fact that I come from an era where I'm mostly versed with technology and the internet and the daily things that most people my age do online, but there is something in the way of taking what I know is quality writing and getting it out into the world in a way that actually gets noticed. There is a missing ingredient somewhere in the equation that prevents the kind of growth I hope for, and while I'm sure there is some polishing that could be applied to the content itself, I'm more convinced that it is a problem of society rather than my content.

Today my family made one of the hardest decisions we've had to consider in quite a long time. Over the course of my walk as a Christian man, one of the things I've struggled with the most is praying in public. I can wander through the corridors of my mind with God nearly endlessly if I'm passionate enough about something to want to talk to Him about it, but when it comes time for that evening meal or to offer up some little thing to say in some other group setting, I find myself reaching for the words to say to make my prayer meaningful.
Fortunately, one of the greatest gifts of the Bible is the format that Jesus gave us to follow in Matthew 6:9-14. Traditionally known as "The Lord's Prayer", it on the surface appears to be a simple little recitation that we can repeat when we want to offer an honest, genuine prayer to God to remind ourselves of who He is and what He wants from us. If you learn to pray in no other way, you can be sure that at the very least if you say these words with honest conviction, you are saying things that are pleasing to God.

I am very proud to have maintained this blog for more than a year now, and in that time we have grown together to more than 250 followers. As someone who has generally struggled in the job search arena, it never ceases to amaze me how inane the process of looking for a new position truly is. My personal philosophy has always been that I hate looking for work because it generally involved a lot of work that I'm not getting paid to do. There certainly is a lot of time and effort put into finding a quality position for reasonable pay, and while you're taking the time to do that you watch as your bills pile up and your bank account stares back at you with a big set of goose eggs.

So obviously today is one of those days where I have no choice but to take a few minutes to write about something, mostly because there was a huge development yesterday that has sent shockwaves through the country. I think most of us tend to have a relatively negative view of our work life. Perhaps the biggest battleground right now is the fight over the "rights" of the LGBT community. Since the 1980's, we've been watching as the same sex community shouts for equal rights to straight people, demanding access to marriage and myriad other things that have traditionally belonged to normal households. I say normal because despite what some people might try to get you to believe, the entire community makes up less than five percent of the total population, and that's being very generous...in reality it's probably closer to one percent if you take out all the padding from disingenuous studies. But even if you accept the very generous number, the vast majority of American citizens are heterosexual and believe in the kinds of relationships and families that have existed throughout history.

I'm not a very good Christian. My faith is and always has been very weak and I have a couple of bad habits that no amount of praying or study or anything else has been able to break. My antisocial tendencies keep me from forming real relationships with just about anyone, and even the people who are close to me in my life struggle to deal with my constant gravitation to solitude. I'm unemployed with no real prospects for a path forward, and I have absolutely no idea what to do and I can find no peace in asking God what I should be doing. I am completely lost.

Some events bring the emotion deep down inside of me rising to the surface, and it boils over into pure outrage. As we watch leaked video coming out of Shanghai during the course of their oppressive lockdown of the people there, it is incredibly difficult to remain unemotional about the atrocities that are being committed there. One of the biggest things I've struggled with in my life is the idea that I have goals and I want to meet them. When I was young, I had a certain idea of how I wanted my life to be, and in my youthful arrogance I though I would be able to accomplish all of it by the time I was thirty. As I grew older and nothing seemed to be going the way I wanted, I strangely did not become bitter but instead began adjusting my expectations to new goals that seemed more reasonable. As I approach the start of my fifth decade of life next year, my dreams are incredibly humble from a worldly perspective, but because of the decisions and circumstances of my life, they are still very much out of reach.

I haven't written a real article in quite a little while. My life lately has been one of inner turmoil, despite the fact that I've been fairly stable financially since I lost my job a couple of months ago. Since then I've been trying to figure out how to move forward with my life, hoping to avoid the same kind of mindlessly boring jobs I've been stuck with ever since leaving the Marine Corps, but there just doesn't seem to be any pathway out of the career I never wanted. We've been watching this last year as old man Joe Biden continues to participate in this fiction that is his wearing the mantle of President of the United States, and as we shake our heads in disgust the nation continues to spiral down the toilet. So everyone having anything to do with political commentary is going to be talking about the state of the union address last night, and today will be no exception for me. I chose to watch it along with the TimCast IRL channel on YouTube, and there was a lot of funny comments and other things happening as they played a drinking game where they took a swig every time Joe Biden did one of his standard gaffs like slurring his speech or getting lost. Most of them won the Bingo-like game they were playing, and the end result was pretty much what everyone was expecting: avoiding any acknowledgement of the major foul ups of the last year and making promises anyone paying attention knows he isn't going to keep.

I recently posted a message on my social media warning people that it is not outside the realm of possibility that we may end up engaged in a direct conflict with nuclear armed Russia in the near future, and my advice was that anyone living in a major city or near a major military installation should consider how they would evacuate that area if active conflict did break out and nuclear war seemed imminent. This is still good advice, because major cities and military installations will absolutely be prime targets in a mutually assured destruction scenario, and it never hurts to be prepared for the worst, even while you hope for the best. It is still my recommendation that people continue planning and thinking about what to do in the case of nuclear war as long as this conflict with Russia continues to rage.

It is infuriating to watch as the current administration doubles down on these ridiculous ideas that provably aren't viable and aren't capable of working with our current level of technology and our existing infrastructure. The statements made by the airhead Press Secretary Jenn Psaki simply boggles the mind, because if you know just the first thing about how energy is produced and distributed in this country, you understand why renewable energy is NOT ready for prime time, and likely never will be. We have reached a sinister level of ignorance with our leadership today which is going to send us right over the cliff into oblivion if we allow these people to continue making their own policy decisions without serious resistance from the general public.

For weeks now we've been watching as trucker protests started in Canada and have started to spread around the world, a global movement for returning to a time of liberty for all growing rapidly as normal people lose their patience with elitists who believe they have the right to control everyone and everything around them. Unlike many of the protests by more radical elements such as "Black Lives Matter" or "Antifa", this demonstration has been completely peaceful, with no real news about anything violent or destructive happening. The process for finding something to write about generally doesn't take me a lot of time, though some days I have to wade through more material than others. Today, the first thing I found sparked the urge to write because it involves something I believe in very strongly: the right to keep and bear arms. The source in question was a video from the Timcast IRL podcast in which Tim discusses the recent no-knock warrant entry of police into the dwelling of Amir Locke in which he was killed due to being armed and in the wrong place at the wrong time. Tim's position appears to be one of holding back to wait on the facts, because the media lies so much and the information is still too murky to make a call on. However, the aspect of this situation that got my own blood moving was the fact that this happened because the police entered the premises with no warning, and that is the primary reason this incident occurred.

We are seeing today that many of the accusations leveled at the Trump campaign during the 2016 elections were not only completely false, but in a huge twist the opposing team was engaging in exactly the kind of behavior that they were claiming that the Republican candidate was participating in. It is no coincidence tweets by the campaign "proving" that Trump had ties to Russia in an apparent collusion to subvert democracy came in at the eleventh hour in an attempt to swing as many last minute votes as possible toward the Democratic candidate. It is clear today that there was absolutely some level of collusion to subvert our democratic process here, but it was clearly on the side of the political aisle that was crying wolf in the first place.

I don't think many reasonable people will hear the phrase "I'm going to appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court" and think that's a very good way of filling out the upcoming empty seat later this year. A well informed citizen might think that perhaps a long history of making sound, constitutionally consistent decisions might be at the very top of the list when it comes to joining the court that makes decisions based on interpretation of the Constitution, as well as a solid track record of running courts in a neutral and unbiased way. The law is supposed to be blind, after all, and shouldn't that also include color?

Tomorrow begins yet another mask mandate for the state of California in an attempt to "control" the spread of COVID-19 during the winter months when the virus is particularly aggressive. This sounds great in theory, and on some level it makes sense that wearing a mask should help reduce the transmission of the virus amongst the population. However, the problem with that thought process is evident when you look at all the other states that refuse to impose these burdens on their citizens. States with lockdowns and mask mandates have no significant decrease in the number of cases as compared to states that advocate for freedom from these government impositions.

While I don't really understand all of the nuances of how to make a woman happy, I can point out on very large factor that contributes to the happiness, or lack thereof, in a relationship. People jump into serious relationships for a multitude of reasons, and each of us has a different primary goal when we decide to commit ourselves to being with another person. Regardless of what those reasons might be, our ability to be content in any relationship comes down to a single factor: expectations.

Making money is one of the more sad things that we have to deal with in our lives on this little pale blue dot we call Earth. We hear it all the time these days: so many jobs and not enough employees to fill the positions. It seems crazy to think that with so many people out of work, yet so many available jobs, that we are struggling to get people hired. There are a lot of theories as to why this is, and the primary one I've heard is that government handouts are encouraging people not to work because they make more staying home. I'm sure this is the case, but as someone who is in the market for a new job, I have seen a trend in the jobs I've been looking at which and a personal feeling which leads me to two separate conclusions.

It's old news by the time this article goes live, but as many of us expected it turns out that Fauci lied about his connection with the Wuhan lab and the gain of function research related to COVID-19. As far as I know, there has been no conclusive evidence presented that the virus absolutely originated in this laboratory, but it's an awfully suspicious coincidence for a highly transmissible virus to "just happen" to spring up near an institute that studies just such biology. While we can't prove yet that the laboratory was directly responsible for the pandemic, it seems far more likely than any other theory.

Human beings reach for the stars. It's in our nature to be unsatisfied with what we have and constantly strive for something better. I think most people struggle with living with who they are. The internet has become pretty boring, if I'm being perfectly honest. Like most things that have been around for a while, you get to the point where if you've seen one thing, you've seen them all. Part of this is our natural tendency to become desensitized to things over time, but there is another aspect to how it all works that makes this phenomenon even worse. No matter how creative you might be, this thing makes it incredibly difficult to do anything innovative or new because the odds are if you aren't adhering to it you won't get noticed anyway. In a recent post, I discussed how our relationships are starting to fray due to the advent of certain technologies like cell phones, but that isn't the only reason why things are starting to change in the way that we deal with the people in our lives, especially when it comes to romantic relationships. Our newly developed dependence on instant communication and social media are terrible things to be sure, but they are only extensions of a more basic problem that some of us tend to have more than others. Too many people go on and on about following your dreams, but sometimes the dream you have isn't the dream that really works for you. It's nice to fantasize about being someone other than who you are, but it's a dubious proposition to believe that you'll be truly happy living a life that isn't really you. Too many people today base their relationships on how they feel rather than realizing what they really get out of this mutual agreement to be with someone else. When I look at my career, I've shifted away from worrying about how much money I make to really considering my work/life balance. My approach to this is exactly the same as how the employer does it: maximizing the ratio that is important to me. However, instead of worrying about the amount of money versus how much I have to give someone, my primary concern at this stage in life is getting the most amount of money for the least amount of time. For America to remain the dominant nation in the world, we have to get over our petty bickering and start really talking to each other. I'm grateful to live in a place where all I have to worry about is grindy work and that basic survival isn't something I really have to think about much. One of my favorite turns of phrase is the idea that "you can't legislate behavior", the idea being that no matter how many rules you put in place, people are ultimately going to do what they want. The same thing applies to gender roles in that you can try to legislate and propagandize human behavior to shape what people are, but in the end we are going to be what we are and no amount of brainwashing will ever get rid of it. It will always be there under the surface, ready to burst forth and show what we really are.

As I look back on the nineties, it was an era of truly unique and original ideas regarding computer games, not because anyone came up with something that no one else had ever thought of, but because we had a truly revolutionary technology at our disposal that allowed us to branch out into a truly new area of development. I recently watched a questioning of Dr. Fauci by Congressman Jim Jordan in which he grilled the leading infectious disease expert about how much longer he intends to continue recommending the extreme measures we've taken as a nation in response to COVID-19. As usual, the doctor did everything he could to avoid directly answering the question, regardless of the forceful and direct queries being lobbed by the congressman. In the end, the chair of the committee told him to "shut his mouth" because he had gone over time.

We all have dreams that people find unrealistic, and while becoming a professional writer isn't the craziest of goals, it is still one of those things that few enough people do to make it highly unlikely to work out. All I can do is keep plugging away at it and hope that some combination of things I do ends up breaking through that wall that holds most people back and thrusts me forward into the life I always wanted. A lot of my posts recently have focused on trying to stay positive and move toward a goal, but what do you do when it seems like life is just out to get you? Many people in our society struggle with depression specifically because they had dreams and aspirations that just didn't work out and now they are stuck in a situation they never wanted to be in. If we understand that we fundamentally can't trust putting human beings in direct control of things, it seems that the answer truly lies in a heavily capitalist leaning society with minimal controls to reduce corruption. The ideal capitalist system has no face or ideology; it is simply about producing the most stuff at the most profit. With proper controls, everyone wins. As Americans, we need to go back to the very beginning and figure out where our starting point is. Once we do, we'll have a much better understanding of where we're going. As Americans, we live in a country that allows us to make new choices and change our way forward. I truly hope that at some point the people will rise up and stop allowing the government to abuse them the way that it does...not with violence or rioting, but by voting the people who do these things out of office. The unfortunate truth is that the majority group tends to be the more quiet group because they have had things the way they want for a long time and they don't really notice the small changes moving things against what they want until it's too late. Until the oppression truly starts affecting their daily lives, they aren't bothered enough to raise their voices in opposition. I believe that time is coming soon, but not soon enough for me. I will not stay to live under that sort of oppression.

The title of this blog post is "A Life Wasted". It may be more harsh than is warranted, but for a long time now I've felt like I'm just existing. A person needs to feel like they're doing something with their life, and maybe this is something I can do that will take me into the next phase. It is my hope that this will somehow turn into a place where meaningful discussion takes place and perhaps makes a difference in someone's life. At the far end of the journey, perhaps it will grow into something that makes a difference in the country, or even the world. That is the dream, but for now I'll be content with just putting my thoughts into writing and hoping it sparks something in whoever is reading it.
