This conversation is an inspiring, helpful and thoughtful one all about how we can bring attention to and acknowledge how we're all affected by the Climate Crisis. I chatted with Martin Wilks who is a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance, an organisation you really need to check out as they're doing wonderful work to help people just like you and I in living well at this difficult time.

I'm absolutely blown away that I had the opportunity to chat with Rob Hopkins. I greatly admire Rob's work, it offers a positive way ahead considering the dire situation we face. I found his book From What Is to What If to be a brilliant read and often draw inspiration from it in conversation with others. It's an inspiring read, go and buy it from somewhere that isn't Amazon!

Today we talk about the bounty that adorns the English countryside; the unwanted, unpicked fruit, the forgotten orchards and the heritage varities that we just don't see in the supermarket.
Archie Thornycroft is part of Fruits of the Forage, the Macclesfield (UK) based company who seek out forgotten fruits and help keep old orchards productive through their family business.

Terry describes himself as a generalist with a varied background but has published a number of papers on consumer ethics, a co-authored book on the subject in 2005 and holds a doctorate in consumption ethics.
I’ve been looking forward to this episode since Terry and I first discussed recording together a couple of months back. I hope in this episode we overview the subject reasonably well and explain some of the issues with the current approaches to tackling the existential crises that we’re facing.

Mark Cocker is a multi-award winning author and naturalist. He's written extensively for British Newspapers including the Guardian, the Daily Telegraph, The Independent and BBC Wildlife.
Brought up in Buxton in the Peak District, he's returned to live in the area and is bringing his passion for the natural world to local initiatives.
Mark's vast knowledge is obvious when in conversation with him and I was delighted to spend and hour and a bit in his company recording this episode. Please stay tuned in right to the end to hear about his passion for the diversity of life that's on his doorstep and the campaign he's involved in locally to preserve locally important green space.

Small businesses that bring local communities together are a vital part of our future. Chloe Masefield together with her husband Rob own "The Natural Weigh" in Crickhowell, Wales.
This was a great opportunity for me to have a chat with the owners of a lovely business that shares a lot of the values and ethics of my own. Find out why they created their business, and catch up on their personal and business challenges caused by being open during the pandemic.

There's much to be gained from eating good quality food. Human health really benefits when we include organic foods in our diet, as does the planet.

Delighted to come together with these wonderful people for a chat about their campaign to establish a refill economy in the UK. Paul and Rina, based in Oxford run SESI which supplies ethical and environmentally kind cleaning products on through a circular refill system all over the UK. Their years of experience has given them a thorough understanding of many global economic issues and we get into some of those in this conversation.
I particularly appreciated their explanation of how the search for an alternative to palm oil could do even more damage.
Follow everything SESI on Instagram and check out their website for lots more information.

Be inspired by Geraldine Starke's ambition to connect with dairy farmers who are looking for a way out of that industry and to help them transition to a sustainable alternative.
Geraldine is the founder and CEO of Refarm'd who ran a successful pilot scheme with ex-dairy farmers, transitioned them to plant milk production and helped to create sanctuaries for their animals in the process.

This episode is timely as it's released on Clean Air Day. I welcomed a good friend of mine Ryan Procter to the BDZ podcast for this episode. Ryan works with local authorities and schools to drive behaviour change and raise awareness about the serious problem of air pollution.
He's currently also involved in the UK Government e-scooter trials. If the trials that are happening in several areas succeed, then e-scooters could form part of a future transport solution.
Here all about his work in both of these topics along with related issues we got into like climate change and the pressure that the meat and dairy industry puts on the environment.

You might have heard the term 'rewilding' but are unsure what it's all about.
So let's hear all about it from someone who is living it day to day. Together with her husband Geoff, Rachel Evatt recently bought 120 acres of upland on the edge of the Peak District as a rewilding project.
We chatted about how rewilding offers us a real vision of hope for the future.
I learnt what their land was previously used for and the challenge that poses, and what their hopes and ambitions are for it in the future. You can also hear some great ideas for how you can rewild your patch, however small.

This episode was so much fun to record. I chatted with Abbie Sellers who owns Plentiful Wholefoods in Ramsbottom, Bury (UK).
Plentiful is a wholefoods refill shop, and Abbie was an inspiration and a huge help to Holly and I as we opened ours in late 2018.
Abbie has evolved her shop in the 2 1/2 years since she opened and she's created a wonderful community hub with an amazing range of ethical and local foods.
So if you've ever wondered what we do behind the scenes, tune in. We get into some of the issues we face day to day, talk about what owning and running a business has been like in the pandemic and delve into some of the big issues that consumers need to know more about.

We need to be open about mental health and loads more work is needed to eliminate prejudice and stigma that still surrounds it.
So what better time to record an epiosde about mental health that during Mental Health Awareness Week 2021.
I chatted with Phil Thomas who as well as being a close friend, has lived experience of mental health difficulties. He speaks openly about his issues and offers insight into what successfully living alongside these sort of challenges is really like.
He's given a lot back to his local community through charity fundraising and we get into that too, so if you've ever wonderered just what is it's like canoeing the length of the River Trent, tune in!

This first episode of Beyond Day Zero features Russ Hope from eLOV. Russ is a passionate advocate of cycling and runs an electric cargo bike delivery business in Macclesfield, Cheshire, UK. Being well aware of the sheer volume of vans on 'last mile delivery' runs he set out to solve the problem during the pandemic with an environmentally friendly solution. He also makes a compelling case for making stopping using our cars for short journeys.
