Self-care is more than just getting a massage, mani/pedi, it’s listening to those whispers of what you need to change in your life.
This is a replay of my talk from the Women Leading Travel Forum in New Orleans with top female leaders from travel and hospitality, where I was leading a leadership workshop on how to handle difficult conversations at work; plus a live self-defense demo I brought onto the main stage. Whether it’s in the board room or in the real world, it’s the same strategy.

This episode is the replay of my biggest talk to 10,000+ AI founders and engineers at /function1 Dubai.
I spoke about Emotional Intelligence (EI) at an AI conference, and they listened.
I broke EI down in a way technical audiences understand:
patterns → systems → data → small improvements.
Because no matter how advanced AI becomes, the most complex system I’ll ever work with is a human.
In this conversation, I share how EI shapes leadership, communication, and opportunities — and I also learned so much from my fellow panelists.
In a world moving at the speed of algorithms, staying human is your unfair advantage.

I always get asked, ““Elaine, how are you even getting all these speaking gigs and clients when you don’t even have 5,000 followers on IG or LinkedIn!?”
Great question. And the truth is... I don’t. 😅
But what I do have are real relationships and a strategy that works offline.
I’m headed to the B3 Conference for Minority Business Ownersnext week in LA—where I’ll be speaking, pitching (as a finalist!), and meeting with procurement officers from companies that are actually hiring. There’ll also be corporate matchmaking tables to help you land real contracts, not just another stack of business cards.
And before you ask I know you're nosy, but I can’t name-drop because, you know... NDAs.
Let’s just say... you definitely know this company 😜

“Ugh that generation is so entitled!” But are they really? As Jackie Dacanay shares, “The problem isn’t Gen Z asking so much, it’s not having the conversation early enough.”
So how do you lead a team made up of Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers especially when there are unspoken biases, stereotypes, and different values at play?
In this fireside chat I had at HR Retail, I talk with Jackie Dacanay, Northern California Regional Director of Service Culture & Engagement at Fairmont Hotels, about how to build inclusive, values-aligned workplaces that actually support multi-generational teams—and boost retention while doing it.
Also: Did you know Jackie’s a hula champion and motorcyclist? And I’ve been doing Muay Thai (yes, Thai kickboxing—the art of 8 limbs, punching, kicking, knees and elbows!) for 21 years. So, we know a thing or two about discipline and collaboration 👊🏽

Last month, I did 3 speaking gigs back-to-back with different audiences:
And guess what? No matter the industry or leadership level, the same question kept coming up:
How do I communicate with people who just don’t think like me?

“My job as a therapist is to get fired by you.”
When my EMDR therapist said that, I was like, “Wait, what!?” 😳
I’ve been going to therapy since college because it was “free” with my tuition.
But after almost a decade of talking about the same stuff without much change, I started noticing how my body reacted whenever I got triggered—tightness in my chest and throat, that fight-or-flight mode kicking in.
That’s when my therapist shared how EMDR can heal my trauma and triggers. And I responded --
“Sign me up!”
In this episode, I’m diving in deep with my client, Jennifer Oh, LCSW, who is a Licensed EMDR Therapist about:
I got into EMDR back in 2014, way before Prince Harry, Sandra Bullock and all the celebrities hopped on the bandwagon.
And let me tell you, it changed everything.
Now, as a trauma-informed coach, I make sure to create safe spaces for my clients—and I’ve referred so many of my clients to EMDR therapy when they’ve felt stuck.
The glow-up I’ve witnessed for me and my clients who have done EMDR? Complete magic. We’re embracing who we are, flaws and all.

Between news, notifications and nonstop content…
Thinking about a personal brand isn’t top of mind.
BUT how do we get our personal brand to stand out, while being empathetic with the chaos?
This is exactly what we tackled at my Soho Works Personal Branding Panel last week.
Fun fact: I got invited to this panel 6 days before the event, and invited my friend, Bernadette, to join the panel the day after and we still packed the room with 35 powerhouse leaders who showed up ready to learn and support one another in community. I shared the stage with:
The energy was so good that people stayed for 3 extra hours just vibing and networking. As much as I love networking (especially as an extrovert), by the time I got home, I was READY TO HIBERNATE -- but my heart? SO FULL.

If you’re from California, last week was an endless cycle of FIGHT OR FLIGHT. And even if you’re not in LA, moments of crises affect us all -- it’s part of being human, we don't live in LA, we are human and unfortunately face moments of crises.
This past Monday, I had a therapy session to process everything. It was ironincally perfect timing.
We talked about how important it is to protect our peace and prioritize our nneeds. She shared that many clients are navigating the same themes as well as her, and it was validating to know I wasn’t alone.
After the session, I felt the pull to share so I hit record.
Whether you’re navigating a crisis or just feeling overwhelmed, I hope this episodes brings you some comfort and practical support.

I’ll be honest: This episode feels more personal than others. Recording it helped me process my own feelings while sharing what’s been helpful for me.
And I want to remind you that I am not a licensed therapist, and I know that my own experience can be unique to me and not you.

I know that “New Year, New You” energy is coming in strong. The social media algorithm just wants us to dive straight into goal setting, and getting cute planners.

Because let’s be real, 2024 came with lessons and a whole lotta plot twists.
And I got receipts from my own messy, beautiful 2024 to share.
So before you unpack your lessons, why not sip on some tea and listen to mine first #sharingiscaring
In this episode, I spill:
I know it’s easy for us to start wanting to set goals for 2025, but before we go there it’s important to reflect on lessons learned.
And let me tell you -- I got my fair share of mistakes and lessons learned from 2024.
As you plan for the new year, I want to make sure you take time to feel uncomfortable to reflect on your own mistakes and lessons learned.
And what better way then to listen to my mistakes first before you listen to yours… #yourewelcome
So, take a moment to reflect. Because if you don’t the universe/God/Beyonce (pick your higher power 🐝) will keep sending that same lesson your way.

“I’m NOT an influencer. I don’t have a million followers.”
That’s exactly how I started my talk at the Rize Credit Union Event on, “How to Get Consistent Customers.”
“I don’t have a million followers. Actually, majority of you didn’t know who I was before this event. And you know what? That’s GREAT NEWS for you, because building a sustainable business doesn’t require a massive following -- and I’ll coach you through you.”
Good news for you, the replay of this talk is on Apple and Spotify.
Despite not having a million followers, here’s what I’ve accomplished:
What You’ll Learn in Episode 103:
This episode isn’t just theory—it’s packed with practical advice and real talk.
My Rize Credit Union talk turned into a group coaching session, giving entrepreneurs actionable strategies in real time and you can listen to this on Apple or Spotify.
So, if you’re curious about my coaching style or simply want to stop following "guru" advice and start building a business that works for YOU, this episode is a must-listen.

It’s that time of year -- where we reflect and tell ourselves, “Okay, how’d we do in our goals?”
And if you aren’t Beyonce or Taylor Swift your response to this question is, “Damn…I didn’t…”
Then anxiety settles in, and that big booming voice comes in, “What do I do now?”
Don’t worry, I get it. To be transparent, I didn’t hit my November revenue numbers I wanted last month but I am also not surprised considering it was an Election month and no one was thinking about it, plus I was on vacation for 2 weeks to Australia and New Zealand.
I DID hit my goal of skydiving 2 weeks ago! You can watch the full skydiving video on my IG @elainelou_

Let’s be real whether it is election season or not, we often want to AVOID touchy topics with family members during this time of year.
My solution for myself?
I’m leaving the country for a 2-week vacation to Australia and New Zealand this Saturday lol.Alright back to you, how can I help you lol…
Well, I know a thing or two about protecting your peace post-elections as a former grassroots organizer, and I share 3 steps to protect your peace this holiday season in my recent podcast episode. For me, elections have always felt challenging (regardless of the outcome), and that’s because my very first job out of college was in political campaigns. I spent my entire twenties in that space, so I’m all too familiar with this whirlwind of emotions.
The goal of this episode is simple: I want to share some strategies that might help you keep your mental and emotional balance steady during this time.

We’re celebrating 100 episodes for the WOC & Allies: Business & Career Realtalk Podcast.
And since this podcast has the word “realtalk” in the title -- just wanted to share I was not looking cute recording this episode. I was wearing a Dodgers snuggie (a snuggie is a blanket with arm holes), a bun and PJs.
This podcast has absolutely evolved from 2 years ago when I first launched it in March 2022. I thought i had to follow what everyone was doing:
2 years and 100 episodes later:
My recent podcast episode, My Mistakes & Triumphs from 100 Episodes, is a quick 22-minute podcast episode where I shared my evolution of how I learned to embrace being myself and how I’ve stayed focused to my 2 goals of this podcast:

This was my biggest talk to date to 200+ leaders and executives in-person. It’s interesting because attendees expected an exact formula for executive presence—like you need a certain percentage of extroversion or charisma (by the way you do NOT need both). Executive presence can be learned.
In this replay I share tools and frameworks on how to create your own executive presence.
In this talk I remind you to see your colleagues with curiosity vs. judgment, and to treat each interaction as a data point to understand someone else’s goals and perspectives.
I shared personal stories, and I threw in some jokes because, honestly, I secretly dream of being a comedian ;)
My favorite part of the talk? The beautiful coaching and support at the end.

I had the honor of speaking to over 200 leaders & executives on the topic of Executive Presence, and I had the pressure to also navigate tech sound issues...
The room was packed – standing room only, with people sitting on the floor and lining the walls. At one point, the event staff had to close the doors and turn people away due to fire safety concerns.
I shared more on how I prepared for this talk in my recent podcast episode. You can listen to this x-minute podcast episode on Apple or Spotify.
I’m still reflecting on the energy and impact of that session. It was truly a powerful experience.
During the talk, I shared an important reminder: executive presence isn’t about being the loudest and extroverted in the room. It’s about showing up authentically and confidently – and yes, that’s a skill anyone can LEARN.

so i had a concussion 3 months ago
dont worry im perfectly fine now
I wanted to wait a couple of months before sharing the details.
And if you think I’m going to share in this email, I won’t-- you’ll just have to listen to the episode (I know I’m a tease…)
We all know that whenever post Labor Day hits everyone is always feeling SO overwhelmed.
We think we can be superheroes and do everything, when the reality is that we can’t and we have to be realistic and honest with ourselves, our bodies and the people we love.
Getting the concussion I had to readjust to my expectations in body, mind and health, and maybe you also have to readjust to realistic expectations as well.
Like you, I often think, “I miss being in my 20s, I was able to do everything.”
But now that I’m older the reality is, “I was able to LIE to myself in my 20s, and do everything when the reality is that I didn’t know how to hold boundaries, and didn’t listen to my body to identify what is my realistic energetic capacity.
This episode is different—I'm being interviewed by Keeley Antonio for her Feelswell Experiences podcast.
Honestly, I was going to record a separate solo episode about what happened, but since I talked to Keeley about it first, I figured:
Let's work smarter, not harder, and just reshare it.
OR maybe I’m just lazy? lol

The beginning of the year, it was tough. I wasn’t hitting the revenue I needed, and my profit margins weren’t sexy at all. I had to put my ego in check and make some hard decisions and conversations.
The result → I reduced 50% of my expenses and now this year I am projected to have the highest revenue, and more importantly PROFIT MARGINS!
How am I celebrating this? Well, I was just with my dad for a week where I was able to help him with recovery after his 2nd knee surgery.
His recovery is going so well especially with the love surrounding him. We even got my nephew to be his physical therapist lol.
This past year, I've talked to more people—myself included—about how tight money has been cause of:
We were taught to hustle, work a lot, THEN the money will come.
But I want to challenge you -- hard work doesn't mean working more hours.
The REAL hard work is building a better relationship with money.
In my 95th podcast episode, I talk about, “How I reduced 50% of my expenses, how keeping up with the Jones’ was affecting me and business updates”
So you might be wondering what has been the results of reducing my expenses by 50% and simplifying my business?
This past week while I was with my dad in surgery without even promoting anything on social media or emails I had 8 sales calls scheduled.
Here's the receipts so you know I ain’t lyin.
Also, don’t get it twisted despite getting all these sales calls in, we are selective with who we work with. We take great care in selecting clients who are genuinely committed to their results, and our reputation depends on the success of our clients. So if you are committed you can apply to work with me and my team by scheduling a call here.

I’ve been noticing my clients, community and myself including feeling anxious maybe cause it’s August and the end of the year is creeping up.
I’ve challenged my clients and myself -- what if anxiety can be good for us? What if we can embrace it.
See…anxiety gets a bad rap.
But this past summer, we’ve seen how anxiety can be(not always) good for us.
So how can anxiety help you -- what if I told you to stop ignoring it.
That whenever anxiety shows up:
What if anxiety is helping us uncover what we need to work and improve on?
In this episode, I want to discuss how anxiety can be embraced. Not all aspects of anxiety are great; that's when you seek a therapist. But let's see what we can do about it. I have five tips, and five questions you can use when anxiety creeps up.

I was coaching a doctor last week who wants to open up a bigger office.
I asked why this was important.
She shared,
“When you stop growing, you start dying.”
Then she sighed, and cried saying,
“But at what expense to my husband, kids and my health?”
I challenged her and asked,
“What if growth doesn’t mean more and bigger, externally? What if growth means changing your business to work for you internally, so you can be a more present spouse and mother, and take care of your health?”
The lightbulb sparked for her and we created a gameplan to create a more sustainable business AND life for herself, husband and kids.
We unfortunately live in a society that tells us - more, bigger and better will guarantee success and happiness.
IT’S A LIE.
What if growth is taking time to pause and asking ourselves what is “enough”? I delve deeper in my most recent podcast episode.

About 7 years ago (2017), I graduated from my Masters in Leadership and Management cause I was getting ready to be an Executive Director for a nonprofit.
The day I graduated for some reason I wasn’t happy or excited. It finally dawned on me,
I’ve been listening to what everyone else wants, and not what I want. I’ve been people pleasing doing what others want for me, but what do I want?! And I realize, “I want a business where I can actually serve other women of color AND make a living from it.”Here’s a graduation pic of me with my two queens, my grandmothers.
I knew I wanted to start a Career Coaching business for women of color cause of my own personal experiences.
A reason why clients love working with me is cause I’ve done ALL the failures, and overcame them.
I also noticed friends and family members constantly asking me for advice so the day I graduated from my Masters I realized I wanted to do my own thing.
I started my career coaching business one month later and landed my first 3 paying clients.
How did I do it? I used my experience as a former fundraiser in political campaigns and the nonprofit sector and I share all my secrets.

Remember when millennials were called, “Lazy and entitled”?
With the new “Quiet Quitting” and “Lazy Girl Job” trends, Gen Z is now getting stereotyped with the new, “Lazy and Entitled” title.
I have clients who are Millennials and Gen Xers who always ask, “How do I work with Gen Z?”
And I also have clients who are Gen Z who ask, “How do I communicate and work with these old paradigms of work?
In my recent WOC & Allies: Business & Career Realtalk Podcast episode, I'm joined by my friend Keely Antonio, co-founder of FeelSwell Experiences, is an expert in Gen Z workforce integration and future of work innovation. Her work has been featured in CNBC and the Today Show.
Shocking fact about Keely who is a Gen Zer herself, she doesn’t have TikTok and Instagram on her phone.

Being a leader isn’t just about creating strategic decisions and hitting goals.
It’s also about leading and managing your team, and learning how to manage up.
It’s about the “soft skills” like teamwork, communication and conflict resolution. (On a side note, I hate that it’s called “soft skills” cause it’s these skills that are actually hard). This past month, I’ve been hearing from all my clients who are finding working in a team to be challenging.
For example, the other day one client said, “Elaine, my boss just gave me 3 more projects to work on when I barely have capacity to work on my current projects. I also don’t have the resources, manpower and budget to do what they want me and my department to do. What should I do!?”
Good thing for you, I share all my secrets on, “Episode 88. How to Manage Your Boss and Team as a WOC Leader.”
Regardless if you are a Middle-Manager, Director, VP, C-Suite, Fortune 500 C-Suite Leader or Small Business Owner (I’ve worked with all levels), it is important to learn how to deal with different stakeholders -- whether it’s with your team, clients, or board.
I often hear from gurus that “leaders are born.”
I disagree -- I think leadership can be taught.
I remember when I was young people called me a pushover. Thankfully, I hired my own therapist, coach and even learned Muay Thai (Thai Kickboxing) to gain my confidence and voice ;)
If you listen till the end of the podcast —I'll be sharing more word-to-word scripts you can download straight from your inbox to help you handle challenging conversations with your boss and team.

In 2017, I “failed.”
I got let go from my dream job working as a Fundraiser at Pasadena City College where I raised $1.1 million in student scholarships.
I was lying on my bedroom floor crying like a starfish.
Unfortunately, I didn’t look as cute like Patrick from Spongebob…
Despite getting let go from my dream job, it motivated me to take my part-time coaching business to full-time.
To date, I’ve now worked with 2,000+ clients in 58 different countries :)
I’m sure you can think of all your past failures and how it’s worked towards your favor when looking at it 20/20.
My other “career failures” include:
Despite these failures, it’s helped me coach my clients when they go through a tough time.
In my 87th WOC & Allies: Business & Career Realtalk Podcast Episode I’m in the hot seat this time reflecting on all my failures, and interviewed by Lisa Gillette.

So get this, I am watching The View on ABC, and I see my ex-boss, Mark Daley, talking about his book, Safe, a book about his experience becoming a foster care parent.
Mark was my first boss right after college. He was a Campaign Manager for a candidate in Iowa. And I got a fellowship from Yale to work on the campaign he was managing as a Field Organizer. Mark was the former Communications Director for Hillary Clinton in her 2008 elections, has worked with 30 members of Congress, owned and sold a digital agency here in LA, and worked with various celebrities like Bradley Cooper and John Legend. I’ve always known him as always focused on his career.
And when Mark turned 40, Mark and his husband knew they wanted to be parents. I loved seeing this side of him come out. They considered IVF, private adoption and ultimately decided to become a Foster Care parent. In my most recent podcast episode, Mark shares his journey.
In today's episode we will be talking about his new book; "Safe" where he shares his journey about foster care and how regardless if you want to be a foster care parent or not, the foster care system does impact us.
Mark has shared with me that everyday, 700 children enter the foster care system. That’s 1 child every 2 minutes. And most children are from Indigenous, and Black families.

Some anxiety is survival, but most of my anxiety isn’t that. I have the most anxiety when I’m living a life that doesn’t align with my goals, hopes, and energy. It isn’t about what I’m doing. It’s about what I’m NOT doing.
“Do you like anxiety? Cause I don’t…”
I shared this with Matt Story, Visa VP when he interviewed me about how I’m always brave enough to ask for help and make tough decisions.
I feel like once a decade, I go through an “identity crisis” of wanting to change my definition of success and saying…BYE BYE BYE to others expectations.
You too?
After graduating college during the recession, I became the youngest director for an organization at the age of 22.
Not only was I the youngest, but I was also the ONLY person of color at the decision-making table.
Eventually, I transitioned from working in politics to the nonprofit sector, with the goal of leading a nonprofit organization. That's why I pursued my Master’s in Leadership and Management. However, on the day I graduated, I realized that I actually wanted to start my own coaching business to support women of color and allies.
Even in the past few years, my definition of success and happiness has continued to evolve. I've come to understand that my current definition of “success” is more than just work.
Even on Monday, I went over my numbers (which I do weekly), and I got more clarity on how I just want to bring in 2-4 new clients per month.
This episode is slightly different because I'm being interviewed for my friend's podcast, Matt Story. Matt is the VP of Visa, and his podcast is called "What's Your Story?" It would be a great opportunity to showcase myself and share my story in this interview.

I had my first business from 2012 to 2016 as a Fundraising Consultant. I ended it after 4 years because I was done with the ups and downs of owning a business.
Sure, there was shame, BUT my nervous system was so calm that I manifested my dream job and dream boss, with whom I am still good friends to this day.
**Maybe YOU are also thinking of ending your business or doing it on the side, and as someone who ended their first business, there’s NO shame in it. It’s about honoring where you’re at.
I’ve been talking to more people who are getting frustrated with their business right now. And there can be different reasons:**
Here’s the reality no one is talking about: 2020 and 2021 were an anomaly. Many businesses grew, but it was because we were stuck at home from the pandemic, including mine, that doubled.
But many of us are reevaluating. I want to emphasize that if you feel like it’s only you feeling this way, it’s not. It's rough out here now, and shifting feels like a must.
Even for me, here are some shifts I’m doing:
Whether you're thinking of closing your business, simplifying it, pivoting, or having it on the side, remember, we're all evolving. Life is more than work; it's about experiences and making memories.
This is why my friend and Marketing Strategist Monica Schrock and I had a vulnerable talk about why there were times when we went back to the workforce.
We discuss the impacts of the economy, personal well-being, shifting personal priorities, and honoring each stage of life.

What do people say about you when you leave a Zoom call or physical room?
Why should you even care?
First, you shouldn’t care what other people think.
I’m not talking about being liked. I’m talking about your personal brand. And you might be thinking… Elaine, I have (or want) a full-time job. Why do I need a personal brand?
Personal brands aren’t necessarily social media lifestyle shots and brand partnerships. Although, you know I would take a Target partnership in a heartbeat ;)
A personal brand is the intersection of your skills, your values, and the impression you leave on people everywhere you go. When you have a strong personal brand, your name comes up when you aren’t in the room, and the opportunities start stacking up.
When it comes to your career, a personal brand makes an impact when you’re:
For example, personal branding has led to:
I recently interviewed my friend, #GIRLDAD, and Visa's Vice President of Global Brand Partnerships and Advocacy, Matt Story.
Matt is a dedicated husband to an entrepreneur, father, podcast host, investor, and marketer. He is a sneakerhead and loves Peloton and basketball.
In this podcast, Matt shares how:

I had just got a Director position at 24. I was doing 2 jobs and increased fundraising numbers by 500%... I knew I deserved a raise.
I asked my immigrant parents, “How do you ask for a raise?”
They responded, “Just work hard. You’ll get a raise.”
I knew that was not how it worked, so I learned to ask for a raise using these 7 steps.
And guess what!? I got my $12k raise!
Even better, these steps have helped clients land anywhere from $25k salaries to a $300k job!
Asking for a raise is like the DTR talk (Define the Relationship) talk with your employer.
Do they see your worth and value?
And if you don't receive the raise, it will empower you to realize it’s time to leave.

“Elaine, back in the Philippines, as a family of 6, we had to share 1 fish.”
As a first-gen immigrant, my parents always reminded me of the privilege I have to be born and raised in this country.
And I agree, what a privilege it is to type on my laptop right now and email you!
This privilege almost feels like a buffet - OVERWHELMING!
In the past, I’ve ended up doing the most and feeling like asking for help would equal “failure.”I used to find it hard to ask for help, but when I did, great things happened. Like when I got support on…
In my most recent podcast episode, my client, Dominick Morales, and I discuss how to build up the courage to ask for help, like how the Power Rangers had each other, lol.
Dominick owns Pamana Plantas, a plant shop in Berkeley, California, that honors her Uncle who passed away.

As the only daughter (I have 2 brothers), I find myself doing a lot of the caretaking for my parents.
I’m getting ready for my dad’s knee replacement surgery next month where I’ll be with him for the first 10-days of his recovery. And I’m attending all the doctors appointments with them.
I also want to share, I am choosing to do this and understand I have agency.
But what’s frustrating is that THIS is the SILENT role that a lot of women take on by default -- being the “caregiver” for others whether it’s our kids, parents, partner and friends.
While at the same time as women we also have:
We're often expected to be SUPERHEROES -- when sometimes every day we feel like this.
My former client, now neighbor living only a 1-mile away, Danielle Kitzes, is a living example. She's a powerhouse – a 9-figure entrepreneur, a mother of three, and a spiritual mentor.
We get together and dive into everything. We share real-life stories and the struggles we're facing right now, embracing the chaos and the triumphs of our daily lives.
Danielle Kitzes is a transformative guide with a diverse background as a Medical Intuitive, Medium, Psychic & Empath Healer, Reiki Master Teacher, and a successful Multi-Entrepreneur. Danielle co-owned an escrow company for 15 years where she oversaw 9-figure deposits. She’s also a survivor of intergenerational trauma, anxiety, PTSD and depression.

Two years ago, in episode nine, I shared why I decided to end my mastermind and simplify my business.
This episode was one of my top-rated podcast episodes where I shared how I was managing:
Here we are 2 years later, and I’m bringing back the mastermind (but different AND better).
Last month, all of January, I dedicated time to deleting and simplifying more of my business and, more importantly, figuring out how I can ensure BETTER client results.
The big news?
I'm bringing my mastermind back but BETTER on all accounts:
Here's a secret: I've been quietly testing this comeback for the last 6 months. While it might seem new, it's been part of my business under the radar.
In my latest podcast episode, I share all the behind-the-scenes of WHY I’m bringing back my mastermind with my team member, Monica Schrock.

According to the Federal Reserve, we have hit our highest inflation since 1982. big collective sigh That's more than 40 years ago!
Time is wild, and so is this economy, so it was fitting to do a podcast on making money during times like these.
Side note: Anyone still feel like 1999 was just 5 years ago?
Because of inflation, it has affected consumer spending habits to be more conscious spenders.
And for you, maybe like me -- I’m being more conscious of ALL my spending.
What do I think about all this? I think it’s great!
This means all businesses NEED to focus on improving their client services and experience. Including me and my team!
For example, I’ve been updating my services to ensure that what we create for our clients makes betterclient results.
I spoke with sales strategist Jamie Gulino Davis, my former mentor and friend, to navigate these economic changes. We explored effective sales strategies during these economic times.
With nearly two decades of experience in sales, leadership, and team management, Jamie has led companies to hit multi-million dollar revenues.

Are you a parent? If so, you may have heard of the term gentle parenting. It's a different approach from how many of us millennials were raised, including myself.
Instead of shaming, blaming, and punishing. Gentle parenting emphasizes empathy and communication.
However, some parents take it too far and don't set boundaries for their child's behavior. So, how can we balance gentle parenting and setting boundaries? This discussion isn't limited to just parents; it applies to everyone in romantic relationships and relationships with our family and friends.
Today’s guest is my client and friend, Justine David, OTR/L, founder and clinical director of The Sensory Brain, Justine specializes in treating individuals of all ages with various challenges, including Sensory Processing Disorder, Tic Disorder, Tourette's syndrome, Autism, ADHD/ADD, and motor skills difficulties.
A USC occupational therapy alumna, she educates professionals about neurodiversity and sensory behaviors through workshops and presentations. Additionally, she serves as a parenting coach and trained birth doula, advocating for client empowerment and education.
Outside work, Justine enjoys hot yoga, cooking from scratch, and adventures with her dog, Bowie.

I hated my business in 2022.
You may have had a similar feeling, but haven’t felt comfortable saying it. So let me tell you a story…
When I started my business in 2017, I wanted time and freedom. That was my number one goal.
What happened? My business SCALED AND BLEW UP FAST in 2020 & 2021 (yes, during the pandemic). That goal of “time and freedom” turned into just doing the most:
And, of course, after 2 years of doing all the things, I burned out. I was SO burned out that I would cry randomly throughout the day.
I’m not here to call you out, I’m here to call you into yourself so you can stop using the addiction of working all the time to acknowledge and start taking steps to create a more aligned LIFE.
To put your life first and figure out how to realign your business around it.

What you “name” something is everything.
For example, when you’re looking for a plumber.
You look for a “plumber” on Yelp and Google and have some options.
Even though it has been a big part of my brand since the beginning, I realized the phrase “Color Your Dreams,” the former title of my podcast, doesn’t mean anything to someone searching for podcasts.
My conclusion: I need to change the title to grow my podcast, and continue to provide accessible education for women of color and allies.
SO…we have changed our name to “WOC and Allies Business & Career Real Talk.”
I know it’s a mouthful, BUT search on Spotify for “WOC Business” or “WOC Career” under “Podcasts & Shows.” I’m #1.
That’s the power of a name AND search engine.
In this episode, we dive into our podcast's evolution from "Color Your Dreams" to "WOC and Allies Business & Career Real Talk." We focus on the power of SEO and its role in connecting with our audience.

We need more people telling us that we, exactly as we are, are enough. More importantly, we need to say it to ourselves. Instead, we live in a society that makes living the greatest game. Like we win at life somehow by achieving what we’ve been told we need to be happy. MORE!
Open up your phone, turn on your laptop, and we are constantly sold this “need” for MORE:
With all this, we are also having:
And here's the kicker - humans in this modern age are never satisfied.
We reach one goal, like buying a fancy house or hitting a certain income level, and immediately we're asking ourselves:
"What's next? How can we get even more?"
But here's the real question we should be asking ourselves:
Does having more actually bring us more happiness?

Do you have an intuitive feeling and can tell by your bank account that things need to change in your business?
So, how can you make sure you both thrive or at the least survive in 2024?
Today, I have a special guest with me, my fellow-boxer, friend, and brand strategist, Tiffany Newman, who spent 15 years branding for Fortune 500 companies, and now she does branding for small businesses like you and me.
Fun fact: Tiffany and I used to box and play violin when we were younger, and have both been in business for 6 years. And we’ve only known each other for 5 years! It was meant to be :)

Money. How does that word make you feel?
With inflation and the holiday season, it might bring up some fear and anxiety. Even when we’re in the giving spirit, we all know this is the time when our wallets take the biggest hit.
But don’t worry! I've got someone here who can show you the way out of this financial frenzy.

She has been able to help seven-figure businesses reach their financial goals, while also helping business owners have a life outside of their work.
In this episode, we focus on how to hold a bold business vision to life without sacrificing self-care or what truly matters to you.

I still want to party like it’s 1999, which means listening to NSYNC’s albums all day while thinking of the most clever away messages for AIM.

It's the holiday season and all the new products and ads are popping up left and right.
You know the ones! They’re designed to make us think we’ll never have this life-changing opportunity again.
And those Playstation and Nintendo “launches” were successful because Mario Kart 64 was EVERYTHING!
And now, small businesses launch using money and time to promote one thing. I used to be a launcher myself, promoting retreats and masterminds six times a year.
I had spreadsheets and copy of emails, social media posts. I was constantly sharing my life online. It was exhausting.
In this podcast episode, I’m joined by my marketing strategist, friend and client, Monica Schrock, on how we moved away from launching and towards a more sustainable life where we get consistent clients.
For example, I’m not promoting anything but I:
More important than these professional wins, personally:

Did you know before I turned 28, I’d been fired three times and quit two jobs? I’ve changed careers a few times, actually! Sometimes by choice and sometimes… not (lol).
Right after college, I worked in campaigns -- working as a grassroots organizer and fundraiser living in 6 different states: California, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, Massachusetts, and New Mexico.
I was on a weekly flight to big cities like DC, NYC, and Chicago.
I made a name for myself, then realized the career I built -- I just hated it. It didn’t align with my values, me, and the work-life balance I wanted. I was missing out on family birthday parties and being with friends.
I found and figured out how to find a new career -- working as a fundraiser at Pasadena City College. I found my dream job with the corner office, 6-figures, and a dream team. I didn’t have the “I hated my job before I started my coaching business.”
In my most recent episode, I spoke with my client, Ava, who also successfully found a new career path at the Department of Justice, a move that aligned with her values and renewed her joy.
We discussed her challenges during the process, the steps she took to find the right job for her, and how you can do this process yourself!
So, if you're feeling lost and need guidance, this episode is for you.
Ava and I share our journey of finding a career path that perfectly aligns with our values and work-life balance.

I’m #1 on Google. Go search for yourself in the search bar with the following keywords:
Yep, I’m #1 on Google search after the ads.
I decided to delve into the world of Google SEO because I was burned out from creating content on social media every day. I just wanted to serve. After asking clients how they found me and how they looked for a coach, I understood that my ideal clients were actively searching for specific keywords like “women of color business coach,” and I wanted to make sure more people found me.
I followed the data!
Then, my team member and retreat manager, Kat Magsaysay, introduced me to Andres Agüero. The result? I got 13 sales calls this past week.
Now, in 2023, I no longer feel the need to post daily.
And this is my FIRST podcast episode I’m recording in a new home I bought with my boyfriend.
Google SEO has been a game-changer for my business, as 23% of our income now comes from SEO.
The rest of our income still comes from… Referrals and renewals. And likely always will!
Even though referrals and renewals still significantly contribute to my income, I understood the importance of diversification. That's why I wanted to share this episode with you - it's not just about my success but about helping you also become #1 on Google.
So, stay tuned and take notes so that more of your ideal clients will come to you without you having to create content every single day…that sounds exhausting!

Is it me? But where did summer go? The 1st month of the 4th quarter is practically done. And I’ve been hearing from all my clients and my own body -- WE ARE TIRED.
I’ll be honest: I am burned out in a good way cause SO MANY opportunities have been coming.
There are so many that it’s been NECESSARY to navigate saying NO and establishing boundaries for self-care (aka taking breaks from humans) lol.
As we approach the holiday season, it is important to find a balance between work and personal life to avoid burnout.
How do we navigate the hustle around the holidays to achieve this?
Don’t worry, I got’chu! I have an early holiday present with this episode on how to sleigh the Q4 burnout so you can actually enjoy the holidays.

Is Terminator happening in real life right now? With AI becoming a part of our every day, it seems like it’s a machine vs. human world.
For example, remember the early days of social media? Now, social media is an integral part of life.
And AI is already part of our daily lives as we open up our phone, which uses face ID, or when we write an email or text, and AI suggests phrases or words to use.
The important question is… how do we maintain our humanity in a world of AI and technology?
And as technology develops, one thing is for sure -- our relationships, both personally and professionally, will be more important.
In this episode, I am pleased to be joined by John Gauntt, the founder of Culture & Code, a B2B podcast and newsletter that focuses on generative AI for creative professionals. I had the privilege of meeting John and collaborating with him at Podcast Movement, where I attended his enlightening AI-focused event.
What sets John's work apart is its holistic approach, which is not solely focused on harnessing AI for financial gain. Instead, it delves into the human aspect. This approach has earned his work recognition in esteemed publications such as The Economist and South by Southwest.
This episode is not just about crafting the best prompts; it is a discussion on how we, as humans, can preserve our essence in a world increasingly dominated by AI technology and automation.

Have you ever attended an event, retreat, or conference that left you feeling overwhelmed?
There were so many guest speakers, and the information was thrown at you, and none of it was individualized or even felt applicable to your business.
Often, I found myself at industry conferences, completely exhausted and inundated with information.
On the other hand, what truly stood out for me during these events were the invaluable connections and relationships I had the opportunity to establish.
In this episode, we'll go over my evolution of how I’ve changed my events and retreats from what everyone is doing to ensuring I’m creating an experience that is intentional and individualized to what my clients need. I’ll also share how I create the agenda and structure, the results of my retreats, and the mistakes I’ve made.
Whether you are a career leader or business owner, my intention is for you to learn from my mistakes, ensure you don’t just copy what everyone else is doing, and create your own client and team-centered retreats that align with your unique objectives.

Do you or a friend have ADHD, Bipolar, Anxiety or you’re neurodivergent? Or experience any of these yourself?
Not sure how to express and share how to best work with you? Or if you work with someone who has shared these things with you, do you want to know how you can better support them?
Today, I am joined by my client, friend and marketing strategist, Monica Schrock (she/they), who has ADHD, Bipolar and General Anxiety Disorder.
We’ll be sharing tips, scripts and tools you can use to work with others who are neurodivergent, or if you are neurodivergent yourself -- what you can do.
We live in a world of capitalism and productivity, the reality is that not all brains work the way capitalism wants them to. That’s the only reason they’re termed “disorders.” We have diverse brains and that’s a beautiful thing, but it means there needs to be more understanding of what that means and how it impacts us.
And instead of being judgmental, be curious. Monica and I share what scripts and tools you can do so we can all understand and work together.
We also talk about our own grandmothers. I share how my grandmother had schizophrenia and bipolar, and how Monica’s grandmother was Bipolar 1.
Please note Monica and I are not mental health professionals and therapists, please seek a therapist or mental health if you need support.

PSA: this is a public apology to my exes and old friends.
I used to be SO BAD at giving and receiving feedback. I was emotional and reactive because I didn’t have the right skills, tools, and scripts to allow me to give and receive feedback in a healthy and productive way. The only good thing to come out of that? I learned from my mistakes, so now I do have those skills, tools, and scripts, and I can share them with you.
When you have the right communication tools, skills, and scripts, your relationships will deepen, you will move up faster in your job or business, and you will learn how to advocate for yourself.
Topics covered in this episode include:
Communication is a skill. It’s time to unlearn the bad habits and learn some new ones because it turns out, it’s not about who’s right or wrong. If you want to know what it is about, grab your coffee, tea, or boba and tune in.

Communication in the workplace can be fraught.
Bringing together groups of people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that shape how they communicate in a single workplace culture can create situations ripe for conflict and miscommunication.
When we approach each other with curiosity and obtain consent before giving feedback, we can shape workplace cultures where people feel witnessed, appreciated, and respected.
Erica Courdae and India Jackson are joining me for a discussion about creating space for difficult conversations in the workplace, the importance of behavior modeling from leaders, and how conscious communication deepens our relationships.
In 2018, Erica and India co-founded Pause on the Play: a community, podcast, and consultancy committed to guiding individuals in the process of defining their values, diversifying their networks, and disrupting systems of oppression. Combined they have provided training and consulting applied in businesses ranging from Christian Dior and Paul Mitchell School to Martha Beck Incorporated and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Their voices have been featured on podcasts, workshops, and online communities with a combined reach of over twenty thousand people.

You don’t need a coach to tell you what to do.
Does that sound weird coming from me?
It probably does, but here’s the thing: coaching shouldn’t be codependent. Your coach should be a partner who helps and supports you as you work towards your goals, not someone you rely on to tell you what to do. The beauty of doing this work to create the life you want is that you get to choose what that looks like, so don’t let someone else define it for you.
Do you know what has to happen for you to stop being dependent on your coach? You have to trust yourself. It’s scary, I know.
In this episode, I’m talking about how to be less dependent on your coach, and then I’m sharing 6 tips to help you start trusting yourself.
It’s time to stop depending on professionals to tell you what to do. Tune in to get started.

Back in 2021, I started feeling burnt out from social media. I was looking at my phone all the time and felt the need to post everything on social media. I had to stop and ask myself how I could get clients a different way so that I could be more present in my life.
This episode is part 2 to episode 4 of the podcast on how to be less dependent on social media. My marketing strategist, Monica Schrock, and I are taking a look behind the scenes one year later at the strategies I’ve implemented to become more present and less dependent on social media.
In 2005, Monica was going to college and playing basketball and the time came to choose a career. They chose marketing because it sounded fun, having no idea that it would stick! After college, Monica moved to Los Angeles and hit the ground running to start the next chapter of their life. It was 2008, smack dab in the middle of an economic crisis. They couldn’t find work, so they served tables and took the projects that came their way. To this day, they’ve never worked in marketing for a big corporation and they love that. For 13 years, they’ve been able to contract for and work with large and small nonprofits and businesses, learning so much about marketing and copywriting and how to do both with less manipulation.
Monica has run a vegan body care line, a lifestyle blog, and a personal brand. They’ve worked with global nonprofits, small businesses, marketing agencies, and people paving their own way. They’ve helped over 200 people, brands, and organizations craft their brand message and increase their sales or donations from double to over ten times.
If you’re also feeling ready to take a step back from social media, this episode is packed with practical advice and strategies for you to try.

Do you give yourself permission to rest or are you always trying to do more?
Capitalism teaches us that we should be in perpetual summer, constantly doing and producing, but Mother Nature teaches us something different: the importance of honoring our seasons of rest.
Join me and Brenda Moreno as we reflect on getting in tune with our bodies and honoring our need to rest. As the trees let go of their dead leaves, think about what you might need to let go of before you can move forward into your spring and summer.
Brenda identifies as an anti-oppression practitioner. She was born in Mexico City but was partially raised in India. She’s traveled the world, attending middle school in South Carolina, high school in Wales, and college in Massachusetts. After Hampshire College, Brenda experienced diverse roles in advocacy as a youth program coordinator at a refugee resettlement organization, later as a bilingual counselor for survivors and victims of intimate partner violence, and finally as a peer recovery coach.
Resting is a revolution. Tune in to join us in it!

Are you making the most of your life by your own definition?
In this episode, dedicated to both my grandmother and my partner’s dad, I’m sharing 14 reflections on my 35th birthday on life and grief.
It’s so strange to experience death and life at the same time, but experiencing the death of someone close to you can remind you how short life is and how important it is to make the most of it.
It’s so common to find ourselves living by other people’s rules and letting them tell us what is right or wrong, but how often do you stop to ask yourself what your own rules are? What you value and want for your life is more important than anyone else’s opinion. I hope this episode helps you get back to that.
Tune in to hear my reflections on life and grief.

I’m celebrating my best month in business (based on revenue) in the last 5 years!
But this is not an overnight success story! So I’m sharing a look behind the scenes at the hard work that led me here: the lessons, mistakes, and what you can do to learn from my journey to take your own aligned action.
The most important thing about this successful month isn’t the revenue, it’s that I was able to do business my own way without following anyone else’s rulebook.
Over here on the Color Your Dreams podcast, we’re all about doing things in a way that’s aligned, so this is something that I’m very proud of and excited to share with you.
Tune in to find out how I had my best month in business and how you can too!

We heal in community.
I was born into a community as a woman of color, and I love to continue that legacy by hosting events and retreats for my clients to help them find a community too.
I recently hosted a retreat for established business owners, and in this episode, I’m sharing 5 reflections from the retreat for your life and business.
These reflections came not only from me but from the other business owners at the retreat. We all learned from each other, and I want to continue that in this episode.
I’m talking about the importance of taking time to reflect and sharing some prompts for you to reflect on in your life, so listen closely to catch all of the reflections and the action items that I’m suggesting too.
If you have FOMO because you couldn’t attend the retreat, this is for you.

As we enter into PSL season, what are you doing to plan for the rest of the year?
Before you try to make a plan to finish out the year, I want you to take a moment to reflect on what has and hasn’t been working this year so far. We’re always so quick to move on to the next big thing that we often forget to take time to pause, celebrate, and reflect.
I’m sharing four questions for you to reflect on before you set goals moving forward. I want you to be intentional about making time to answer these questions for yourself.
No matter what time of year you listen to this episode, it will help you create a plan that is aligned with you.
This isn’t another cookie-cutter approach. If you like actionable steps, grab a pen and paper because this episode is for you.

Are you holding a safe and transformative space for both yourself and others?
These are known as trauma-informed spaces. Our special guest for this episode, Adria Moses, has taught me so much about creating safe spaces, so I knew I had to get her on the podcast to share her knowledge with you.
Aria Moses is an entrepreneur, coach, and writer who helps powerful women tap into their intuition, overcome fear, and build confidence by connecting deeply to themselves.
If you’ve ever found yourself in a space where you’re the only woman, person of color, or minority, this episode will resonate with you. And if you’re an ally, I’m so happy that you’re here and ready to learn with us!
Throughout our conversation, Adria is sharing her experience as a biracial Black woman with an autoimmune disease, and I’m sharing mine as a first-gen immigrant and Asian American.
If you want to learn how to be more trauma-informed and be a better coach, human, and mentor, you’re in the right place.

Coaching and therapy have both become more accepted in our society over recent years, but do you know how they differ? And do you know which one you need?
In this episode, we’re getting into the difference between therapy and coaching, how to hold ethical space as a service provider (while acknowledging that you’re not a therapist), and I’m sharing why I think therapy is more important than coaching—and that’s coming from a coach!
I’m not a licensed therapist, but I’m joined in this episode by my friend Dr. Nazanin Moali, a licensed psychologist and sex therapist, so I know we’re in good hands.
Dr. Nazanin Moali (she/her) is an internationally-recognized psychologist, educator, sex therapist, and podcaster. Her private practice is located in Los Angeles, and she specializes in working with couples and individuals struggling with issues of sex and intimacy. She hosts a weekly podcast called Sexology, introducing the most intriguing findings in the psychology of sex and intimacy.
If you’ve been thinking about getting help, but you’re not sure if you need a coach or a therapist, we’ve got you covered in this episode!

Do you know where most of your referrals come from?
Referrals and renewals make up the backbone of my entire professional career. If you don’t know where your referrals are coming from, it’s probably time to sit down and figure it out so that you can send them a thank you note.
Building relationships is the key to getting more referrals and renewals. We live in an increasingly online world where we think we need to have a certain number of followers and perfect pictures, but what’s really important is the substance of our relationships.
Human beings are social. We crave connections with other people. You need connection and so do your clients, so reaching out to them to build relationships is a win-win.
In this episode, I’m sharing some questions for you to ask your clients about their experience with you and six tips on how to get great referrals.
If you want to get clients and make sales while you sleep, this is for you.

It can be stress-inducing, especially when we’re dealing with inflation, a rise in the housing market, and a recession.

What would a sustainable summer look like to you?
Last year was all about “hot girl summer”, but this year I feel like we all want a sustainable summer.
Here’s what I mean by sustainable summer: being able to be present on vacation, take days off, spend time with loved ones, serve your clients, and get more ideal clients. A sustainable summer is knowing that you can do what you want when you want and know that your business is still running.
In this episode, I’m taking a deeper look at what a sustainable summer (and business) looks like and sharing my 7 tips for sustainable revenue this summer.
If you need help clocking out this summer, this is for you.

Are you performing or are you being intentional about how you show up?
Throughout our lives, society has been rewarding us for being performative. As a student, you got an award for perfect attendance, and as an employee, you got a raise for working around the clock. It’s not surprising that we bring these habits into our businesses, but it’s time to unlearn these behaviors.
I’m joined by Paula Shepherd to talk about unlearning the need to be performative. We both learned the hard way that trying to be everywhere and do everything will only lead to burnout. We’re sitting down together to talk about how to identify what you need to change, show up more meaningfully, and avoid burnout.
Paula Shepherd is a certified and credentialed business communication coach, leadership mentor, and host of the highly-rated podcast, “The Confidence Sessions.” She helps high-achieving business owners across the globe develop value-driven businesses that scale their impact by simply using their voice. Paula believes that success is simple when you learn to boldly communicate and prioritize powerful, lasting connections.
If you’re ready to unlearn the need to be performative, just tune in.

Are you staying true to yourself?
If that’s hard for you to answer, don’t worry. In this episode, I’m sharing the Color Your Dreams® approach to staying true to you.
The pandemic has prompted us to take a look at our lives and ask ourselves if we’re staying true to ourselves at a societal level and an individual level. If you’ve been here before, you know that I believe in honoring my ancestors through how I live my life, and being true to myself is a big part of that.
There are four pillars to this approach that you can prioritize according to your own situation, lived experience, and what makes sense for you. This episode is here to serve you, so I want you to use it however it works best for you.
If you feel out of alignment with your life and business, this is for you.

Do two years of a pandemic have you feeling burnt out?
I know that I’ve been feeling burnt out, and I’ve also had to grieve the loss of someone close to me during the pandemic, which I know so many of you have too. The loss of a loved one often causes us to realign and reevaluate what’s really important in life, so let’s do a little bit of that realigning and reevaluating together.
In this episode, my guest, Tricia Chinnici, and I are getting real and raw. We’re sharing our experiences with grief as well as burnout, transitions, and seasons of life. Grief and burnout don’t come with handbooks on how to deal with them, so we want to share some of what we’ve learned with the hope that it could help you too.
Tricia Chinnici is a coach for sensitive and creative small business owners, and also the host of the podcast "It's Not Business, It's Personal." She was a creative director for 7 years before deciding to lean into her Highly Sensitive superpowers and leave the burnout behind. Now as a successful business coach, her goal is to flip the script on how we talk about business by removing the toxic hustle culture and one-size-fits-all mentality and adding more focus on creativity, fulfillment, authenticity, empathy, and mental health. As an artist, HSP, and Enneagram 4 she truly believes that you don't have to change who you are to be successful and that your business should work for you.
If you’re struggling to get through your grief or burnout, this is for you.

Did you know there’s free money available to you?
There are options like funding, grants, and loans for BIPOC business owners and allies like you and me.
You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. If there are resources available to you, you should be leveraging them to grow your business and give back to your community. Big corporations do this all the time!
I've partnered up with Luis Ramos and Desha Elliott of the Accion Opportunity Fund to share some resources and tips to grow your mission-driven business.
Luis Ramos joined Accion Opportunity Fund as the Director of Business Advising in 2020. Throughout his career, Ramos has helped individuals in the United States and Central America build and grow their businesses by providing direct mentoring opportunities and educational resources.
Desha is a business advisor for Accion Opportunity Fund (AOF), the largest CDFI to provide a financial support system for small businesses that advance racial, gender, and economic justice for all.

Numbers don't define you, but they do tell you where you’re at and what you can do to change the future.

If you’re trying to add more to your business and life, what are you deleting?
Saying yes to everything comes at a price. You might not realize it, but every time you say yes to something, you’re saying no to something else in your life. Are you prioritizing what to say yes to?
This episode is about how to simplify your business so that you can live the life you really want. The truth is, when you focus on less, you get to have more, and trying to do all the things leads to burnout.
I’m teaching you why you should be focusing on one thing at a time and sharing 5 ways that you can do more with less.
Are you ready? Tune in to get started.

Jenny is one of my Color Your Dreams Inner Circle clients and owns a marketing agency and restaurant.

Are you going through an identity crisis in your career, business, or life?
Are you feeling like you want to either quit or burn everything to the ground but that’s not realistic because you have bills to pay? I’ve been there. And I want to tell you what I’ve learned.
This episode is all about how to end or realign something. I’m sharing some powerful reflective questions to ask yourself to start feeling more aligned with yourself and happier with your life.
I’ve made a lot of career changes in my life. I’ve quit jobs, I’ve been fired, and I’ve switched career paths entirely. Some might say I have commitment issues because of all the changes I’ve made to my career, but I don’t think so. I know that I’m committed to myself and my happiness, and you should be too.
If you tell yourself things like “if only I had quit my job sooner,” or “if only I had started my business sooner,” I am helping you reframe those thoughts in this episode.
If you’re not feeling like the best version of yourself right now, this episode will help you get there. Tune in to get started.

Are you going through an identity crisis in your business?
I recently decided to end my Aligned Legacy Mastermind, a group program for beginner entrepreneurs, which has been my signature offer for more than four years. Making that decision wasn't easy, so I want to show you how and why I made it.
When you scroll on social media, everything looks so perfect, so I think it’s valuable for you to see the messy imperfection behind the scenes of my decision-making process. Change doesn't happen overnight, it takes a lot of thoughtful reflection, planning, and implementation.
Your journey won't look the same as mine, but I hope this episode reminds you that I’m human too, and we’re all just trying to find our way to create an aligned legacy.
This is a vulnerable episode where I’m sharing what’s been going on over the last few months that led me to end my mastermind, and what I’m focusing on now instead. I want to share my mistakes so you can learn from them and maybe also relate to them.
Stick around until the end because I’m also sharing the seven questions you should ask yourself as you think about changing your business. I also share reflective questions throughout the episode.
If you want to simplify your business, I made this episode for you.

Are you exhausted by cancel culture? Me too.
We need to move from cancel culture to conscious conversations in business and life because when we have conscious conversations, we can grow and learn from one another. Cancel culture doesn’t leave room for us to learn from our mistakes and grow and improve. Isn’t that what being human is all about?
This isn’t just about business, it’s about life, so whether or not you own a business, the message in this episode is for you.
I’m sharing some personal stories, examples from my career, and conscious conversations I’ve had with people in my life.
Grab a pen and paper, because at the end of this episode I’m going to ask you some questions that I want you to take time to answer.
Are you ready to have a conscious conversation? Tune in.

What does it mean to charge your worth as a woman of color?
We’re joined in this episode by two amazing guests, Erica Courdae and India Jackson, to unpack the term “charge your worth” and the weight that it can carry for women of color.
Erica and India are also reflecting on the significance of women of color and allies working together and the importance of being an imperfect ally to yourself and others. This episode will change the way you think about values, allyship, cancel culture, and so much more.
In 2018, Erica and India co-founded Pause on the Play: a community, podcast, and consultancy committed to guiding individuals in the process of defining their values, diversifying their networks, and disrupting systems of oppression. Combined, they have provided training and consulting applied in businesses ranging from Christian Dior and Paul Mitchell School to Martha Beck Incorporated and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Their voices have been featured on podcasts, workshops, and online communities with a combined reach of over twenty thousand people.
If you feel like you’re not charging your worth or being a perfect ally, this is for you.

What could you do if you had more time—not just in your business, but in your life?
In this episode, we’re talking about time and energy management. I want you to notice that I’m including energy in this because your energy is just as important as your time.
We’re talking about how to define success and happiness, how I stay grounded in my goals for the year, and what I do to reflect on what is and isn’t working. I’m also sharing a behind-the-scenes look at how I figure out and schedule my work-life balance and how I help my clients do the same.
This episode will show you what works for me, but you can adapt and adjust what you hear to make it work for you. Our lives and businesses don’t look the same, but we can use the same principles to get the most out of them.

Do you rely on social media for most of your marketing?
It can feel like social media is the only way to grow your business, but Monica Schrock is here to tell us why that’s just not true.
In this episode, Monica is sharing five ways to be less dependent on social media including relationship marketing, email marketing, creating marketing goals, brand messaging, and creating a website. Monica is also sharing a prediction for marketing in 2022.
Get ready to take some notes and you’ll walk away from this episode with a whole bunch of actionable steps that you can take to expand your marketing.
They couldn't find work, so they served tables and took the projects that came their way. To this day, they’ve never worked in marketing for a big corporation and they love that. For 13 years, they’ve been able to contract for and work with large and small nonprofits and businesses, learning so much about marketing and copywriting and how to do both with less manipulation.
If you’ve been wanting to learn more about marketing but you don’t know where to start, this episode is perfect for you.

Are you constantly putting other people’s needs before your own?
Our first guest on the podcast is life coach Nicole Cruz, and she is talking about why you need to selfishly put yourself first as a woman of color and ally.
I knew that I wanted one of the first episodes of Color Your Dreams to be about mindset, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to speak to us about that than Nicole.
She’s sharing her take on how putting yourself first honors your ancestors, improves your relationships, and enables you to serve others. She’s here to remind you that your worthiness is innate, and you don't have to prove yourself to others to be valuable.
Nicole Cruz believes in the amazing potential in people to grow, evolve, and have an impact on the world. She believes that playing a bigger role in our own lives elevates everyone around us. Nicole also believes in abundance, love, and connection.
Nicole is on a mission to help others move from fear and self-doubt to clarity and joy. She loves being able to help others make their own transformations to love themselves, believe in themselves, and take action towards their dreams.
If you want to go from supporting role to leading lady in your life, tune in.
