Shifting our perspective, we'll examine whether writing is genuinely impossible or simply uncomfortable in the moment. And finally, we'll chat about the art of release, learning to let go of the barriers that hold us back from the page.
Wrapping up this heart-to-heart, I'm reaching out to all the fellow writer-parents to join the ongoing conversation where encouragement flows like ink at momwritesfirst on Instagram. Are you a people pleaser? Do you say, "Yes," even when it means sacrificing what you want? People pleasing can derail health and fitness goals and prevent you from reaching your goals.
But you can stop people pleasing.
Try these two little hacks:
1) Build your capacity for self-love, so that you make yourself a priority. Jen's trick is to picture yourself as a child and make a promise to take care of yourself.
2) Build better boundaries by practicing say, "no," using a game based on the day of the month.

Are you a stressed-out lawyer and burned-out mom? MOM FIRST helps smart, compassionate lawyer moms break the golden handcuffs and finally get "unstuck" so that they create wholehearted & aligned businesses that work for them, their families, and their communities.
You can ditch the overwhelm, the mom guilt, the worry, and the anxiety, that comes with law firm life, and instead, create a business that works for you, your family, and your community.
BUT, here's the Catch! No one is going to do it for you. Not the law partners. Not the clients. Not your spouse. Not your kids. Not your friends. Not even the other moms on the PTA (though, dang, are they organized). No. YOU have to go FIRST. You have to take the Leap!
If you want a life where you go from frazzled and barely surviving to fulfilled, joyful, and thriving, then you have to go FIRST.
Let's go FIRST, Together, and be an example of what is possible in this world.

Want to learn how to stop avoiding your workouts so you FINALLY move forward on your fitness goals
• Recognize avoidance for what it is - not laziness or weakness but rather a desire for harmony and to avoid uncomfortable situations.
• Identify patterns of behavior in order to counteract them, such as procrastination or cramming too much into too little time.
• Create a Procrastination Workout List by listing out desired activities for the week in priority order and then asking the brain if it is willing to do each one; if no, just move on down the list until something can be done.

Looking for a way to feel better? Try using the power of resonance. By tuning in to what feels good and right in our body, we get out of our minds. It helps us defeat analysis paralysis and move towards what is really in alignment with who we want to be. Tune in to what you want, just like a tuning fork.
On this episode, Jen gets vulnerable and shares how she is working with her coach to figure out how to get out of her head and tune in to what she really wants by learning to follow the feeling of resonance.

Time Audit & Time Optimization to Reach Goals
Who wishes there were more hours in a day? Wanna get more time in your day? Don't we all!
Try a Time Audit!
Auditing your time raises your awareness and can help you identify how to better align actions with goals.
Conducting a Time Audit can help assess how are using the 168 hours that you have each week and make sure that you are using your time in a way that aligns with your values.
Learn 5 tips for conducting time audits:
1) Let go of judgment around how you are actually using your time so that you can assess it and reflect and adjust.
2) Track with a method that works for you
3) Track as accurately as you can without obsessing and drowning in perfectionism.
4) Track every day for a week but do not review the data until the end of the week.
5) Repeat! Make small tweaks and figure out what works for you.
Remember this should be a tool that serves you and improves your life--not one that stresses you out more.

Lacking motivation? Do you keep giving up on your goals? Do you lack consistency?
On this episode, Jen shares how she is using microhabits and stacking to bust through the the hard times and stay consistent and motivated to reach her goals.
If you want to stay consistent, you need to understand the process of change, which includes ebbs and flows in motivation and discipline. Knowing that feeling like you aren't making progress is PART of the progress. You can stay consistent and move forward with your goals by stacking tiny habits (microhabits) that will help you to keep moving forward on your goals. Doing a little bit every day really does help! It makes your success inevitable.

In this episode of Fittest Year Ever on Mom First, learn how to use the Thought Bridge tool to help manage your thoughts and stay focused on your goals. Using the Thought Bridge does not involve positive affirmations; rather, it involves finding thoughts that feel true to you and gradually working up toward your goal thought.
Use the Thought Bridge to bridge the gap between where you are now and the goal thought that will serve you better.
• Start by doing a mind dump and identifying where you are in relation to a specific topic and then identify what you would like to achieve in your goal thought.
• Pick thoughts one by one, that feel like they could be true for you and get closer to your goal thought.
• Each thought is like a step in a bridge that can help you get from one point to another, such as from a negative body image to genuinely loving your body.
• A coach can offer personalized help with this process.
• Doing this type of work can have transformative effects on achieving the results we want in life.

How would you show up differently if your belief and confidence in yourself was absolutely unshakeable?
You can build your confidence. You can be more self-confident. And you don't have to wait until you achieve your goals to have that self-confidence.
The truest and highest form of self-confidence comes from living in integrity with who you are.
•Knowing yourself and living in integrity with your values gives you the confidence to stand up for yourself, your dreams, your desires, and your boundaries.
• When you are aware of what is happening within your heart, it allows you to make intentional decisions that create the life that truly want.
• This self-knowledge leads to an unshakeable belief in oneself, which makes one unstoppable no matter what life throws at them.
• Coaching can help develop this knowledge and provide support when facing difficult situations or saboteurs who judge or diminish others for their own gain.
• Doing this work provides huge payoffs as it helps build true confidence by discovering who we really are and how best to use our unique gifts. When you get to that spot, nothing can make you inferior. Nothing can shake your ultimate confidence in yourself!

Do you love your body? Do you appreciate it?
In this Fittest Year Ever episode, let’s talk about how we feel about our bodies. Did you know that you can feel more confident in your body? Did you know you can love your body right now, just as it is, without changing it?
A whopping 91% of women are dissatisfied with our bodies. It is possible though to improve our body image and body appreciation.
Here’s what helps:
•Journal and examine your thoughts in order to change their perspective on their body.
• Begin to question where the negative thoughts come from and realize that the negative thoughts are actually programming and conditioning you’ve received from others.
• Notice and appreciate the differences and appreciate body diversity.
• Stop using your body to judge your morality.
• Practice loving and appreciating your body everyday using mindfulness, gratitude, and self-compassion.

Before you hit “GO” on 2023, take some time to pause and reflect on 2022 using the 5R Framework, plus an added twist of “wonderment” to take your mindset to the next level.
In this episode, Jen shares with you how you can use a reflection framework from adult learning, called the 5R framework, to reflect on what the past year was like for you and help you make decisions about where to go from here.
This 5R framework can be used to reflect on what this past year was like for you and help make decisions about where you go from here. The 5Rs stand for 1) Reporting, 2) Responding, 3) Relating, 4) Reasoning, and 5) Constructing.
But you can next level this framework and your own reflection, by adding wonderment to the mix. Wonderment is a state of awe and admiration that can be used to empower oneself. Use powerful and insightful questions to create the feeling of wonderment for yourself.
The 5R framework is from Bain, et al., and more information can be found here: https://www.ed.ac.uk/reflection/reflectors-toolkit/reflecting-on-experience

Gratitude, Thankfulness, Appreciation!
We've all been told to be grateful, and the literature on gratitude's correlation to happiness is well-documented.
• However, often times people use gratitude as a way to self-sabotage or make excuses for not going after what they really want.
• This is because they think that being grateful for what they have should mean that they don't want anything more.
• However, this isn't true! We can be grateful for everything we have AND still want more out of life.
• Wanting more doesn't mean we're ungrateful - it just means that we are ambitious and striving for a joyful life!
• Switching from “gratitude” to “appreciation” can help shift your perspective and make space for more positive emotions.

Creating your Own Version of Success with Dr. Johanna B. Moore
Episode 55
In the past, society has defined success in such a rigid way, and we all followed suit thinking it would fulfill something in us but more often than not, it has left many of us questioning our decision.
**You have three choices: doctor, lawyer, engineer. Not everyone is suited to these professions, then why have these been the pinnacle of success in our society’s eyes for so long?
This is not the case now. Newer generations have understood that happiness comes from finding out who you are and what you truly want, not what society tells you.**
**Especially for mothers. The role of the working or non-working mom has been switched up so much, it's time for us to take control of what is best for us when it comes to reaching our goals in our personal, professional, and private lives.
On today's episode, we are talking about growth and finding our own version of success and we have invited a very special guest who is an incredible woman.**
Dr. Joanna B Moore is a triple board certified physician and a local leader in her community, as well as a mother of twins. Dr. Moore has a company called She Is Money**, a success strategy platform for education and coaching.
Join us for an inspirational conversation about how we can redefine success for ourselves and society using Dr. Moore’s strategies to goal plan.**

Episode 52: How to Handle Being Misunderstood when Pursuing a Goal or Passion
Check out this episode for 5 tips on how to handle being misunderstood!
Have you been misunderstood? Has someone questioned your values because you have the audacity to go after a goal? Have they criticized your parenting or your commitment to work? Have you ever felt judged by others for deciding to make your goal--be it a business goal, a monetary goal, a fitness achievement, or a creative work (like a book, or a piece of art)--a priority?
No matter how big or small your goal is, reaching it means that you will have to create something new in your life. You will have to become someone new. You will have to become the person that can attain that goal. When you do that, there may be people who misunderstand you. They may ridicule you, call you names, think you are wasting your time, or shun you. But ultimately, in order to reach your goal, you are going to need to allow them to misunderstand you.
In this episode, Jen shares 5 new ways to handle being misunderstood. And none of them include arguing with them or defending yourself. Check out this episode for a new way to handle being misunderstood--from a place of peace, compassion, and integrity.

Episode 38--What to Ask Yourself about Work-Life Balance
We’ve been lied to! As mothers, we are taught to achieve some sort of balance between all the hats we wear, but what exactly is balance, and has it EVER been achieved? If so, that person needs a Nobel Prize because from my experience and mothers I’ve spoken to, this unattainable utopia has remained elusive. Telling a mother she just needs work-life balance can be harmful, because it sounds like a normal part of life, but it doesn’t actually exist. Also, when referring to work-life balance, it almost always leaves the needs of the person trying to achieve that balance out of the equation. It’s a common theme in our society to just keep working harder, and to do better, but at what cost?
What if we changed our perspective of what work-life balance means to mothers in society and create a new narrative? Like going after your dreams after having children and setting a positive example for them to not let anything get in the way of their dreams. Or to be able to be fully present for your children because you yourself are fulfilled by the way you’ve structured your life for YOU, and not society’s expectations. The positive outcomes from making this switch can be exponential, but we have to change how we approach what it is to be a mother who is also a lot of other things.
Join us in today’s podcast to learn why work-life balance is a hoax and what we can do to change it. Let’s take our power back together!

Come with me on this very personal episode where I discuss what to do if you are frustrated with your body image. In this episode, we move beyond body positivity, body love, and body image, to provide a practical way that you can improve the relationship with your body. You can be in harmony with your body. That is available to you.
Discussed in this episode:
I will also share with you my personal journey with a diagnosis of Premature Ovarian Failure (aka Primary Ovarian Insufficiency), and how I’ve worked to overcome the frustration, grief, and betrayal that that diagnosis brought. I felt incredibly alone when I received my diagnosis. I promised myself that if I came through that diagnosis to a better place, that I would talk about it so that others who have this condition would not feel so alone. So while this is an intensely personal subject and very difficult for me to talk about, I have decided to put it out there, in case it helps another woman feel less alone. If you are struggling with Premature Ovarian Failure (Primary Ovarian Insufficiency), or other concerns like early menopause, infertility, or pregnancy loss, please know that I see you. You are strong. You are beautiful. You are not alone.

Come with me on this episode where I share with you why radical self-acceptance is the foundation for growing your own self-confidence.
Radical self-acceptance is about embracing everything about ourselves–the joys, the foibles, the good, the bad, the past and the present. It is about accepting where we are, and believing that wherever we are, that is okay.
**You can increase your self-acceptance, and then start growing your self-confidence. I’ll show you how to do just that, with two simple practical tools. First, I’ll help you understand where all of that negative thinking and negative self-talk is coming from. Second, I’ll share you with you the mind hack for rising above the negative self-talk, and using the power of our minds to not just accept, but also love ourselves where we are right now.
You can accept yourself, even the imperfections. You can even learn to love them and become more confident. Let me show you how I did that. Please listen in.**

Do you struggle with guilt? Are you plagued by the dreaded "mom guilt?" Or do you feel guilt for not being a good enough daughter, friend, or father? Maybe you feel like you are not a good enough provider for your family or you aren't there enough for your friends? This kind of guilt often does not serve us well. Did you know that most guilt is unnecessary and just a product of social conditioning and thought errors or cognitive biases? When guilt is helpful, its only because it helps us realign to our values, and then its important that we move past the guilt and transform our lives. In this episode, I explain how to overcome guilt in just four steps. You can do this.
On this episode, we take on guilt, examine guilt, and learn how to move past guilt so that it does not stand in the way of our joy, dreams, or goals.
Come with me, as I share with you a simple, four-step process that you can use today to overcome guilt. I’ll show you how to recognize when guilt is unnecessary and even toxic and when you can use guilt as a guidepost to reconnect to your deepest values.
Here is the four-step process for overcoming guilt:
I’ll even share with you my own journey in overcoming and ending Mom Guilt. I successfully gave up Mom Guilt in 2016, and when it reared its head in 2020, when my world was turned upside down, I used this process to overcome it again, recalibrate, and move forward with intention. If you are a mom dealing with mom guilt, you can move past guilt, too. Let me show you how. If you aren’t a mom, you might still struggle with guilt! Whether you are struggling with guilt as a daughter, a friend, a provider, a father, a teacher, or just generally feeling too much guilt, please know that it is possible to feel better. Give this process a try and let me know what you think.
Please share this episode with a friend, and tag me! So i can personally say, “Thank you.”

Today I share with you why you don’t need any resolutions other than to Manage Your Own Mind! This is the secret sauce. Managing your own mind means that you don’t need any more accountability partners or systems. All you need is to manage your own mind to get the results that you want.
You can manage your mind to create the results and outcomes that you want in your life.
Learn about a super practical tool, called the "Thought Ring," which I use to manage my mind. This tool, the "Thought Ring" harnesses the power of metacognition to help us understand how our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and outcomes are connected and influenced by each other.
With the Thought Ring, you will become more mindful and gain awareness of our thoughts and emotions. And you can use the Thought Ring to see how your thoughts and emotions lead to the behaviors that are creating the outcomes in your life. The AWESOME news is that you can control all of this. You have the power to change it. That means you can use the Thought Ring to create any outcome that you want in your life.
Make mindfulness your super power to overcome anxiety, confusion, stress, lack of confidence, suffering associated with health conditions, and lack of motivation/will power
Use it. Manage your mind. Create your own spectacle in your life. And then tell me about it. I can’t wait to hear from you. Go out there and do it.
