Today, I start my career as account executive!
I will immerse myself in the fundamentals
I will listen to feedback and act on it
I will become the best AE I’m capable of becoming
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear a word you are saying.
So excited, let’s go!
Instead of stressing about missing your quota due to a lack of pipelineWhy not pick up the phone right now to solve itInstead of just hoping to get promoted to the team you really want to join nextWhy not set up time with the leader who can influence your careerInstead of worrying about whether you'll ask the right discovery questions and appear knowledgeableWhy not spend 15 minutes researching before your meetingProactive daily urgency is greater than reactive passive assumptions.#sales Would you agree with me if I said that salespeople are just a number?Imagine this situation..You absolutely love the work you are doingYou are well liked internallyYou have been grinding in your AE position for 18 monthsYou are 80% of the way to hitting your promotion target to senior account executiveYou go your boss and asking for the promotion only for them to tell you that you did not hit the agreed upon number you need to hit to promoteYou feel discouragedThe next day a private equity company buys your company and fires 10% of the workforce, you are part of the unlucky bunch who got cutI describe this scenario in detail because this is the reality of salesThat you control your destiny entirely by your performance, anything less than hitting your quota is not good enoughYou may have the worst territory, you have never get inbounds, you may have no resources or supportThere are no excuses, no explanations, just production“Your actions speak so loudly, I can not hear what you are saying”The beautiful thing about sales is that the result is binary, either you hit quota or you don’t hit quota. If you hit quota, you are celebratedIf you don’t hit quota, you are at risk of losing your job.I hit my quota in my first 6 for 6 quarters as an account executive, thought I was the greatest. And then all of a sudden I missed my quota. All of the past success did not matter anymore because all that counts is WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME RECENTLY.The lesson here is that you are valued in proportion to your contributions. As soon as your production falters, there is a course correction that must be done. You get put on a performance plan and depart 90 days laterOr you decide to do whatever it takes to winI started my career in software sales without any connections or experience at a leading software company, and it changed my life. I started out making $50,000/yr as a sales development rep, and in under 4 years by the age of 26, I was promoted 6 times, made +60,000 cold calls, and earned $302,000 as a senior account executive. I've created over 1,000 YouTube videos helping teach more people about tech sales as I'm on a mission to instill my years of industry expertise into others, allowing this amazing career to change their lives just like it changed mine.Disclaimer: This account serves my personal purpose to establish effective social interaction with professionals throughout the industry, all my statements are purely based on my personal experience and not indicating any individual, or team. Would you belive me if I said that a cold call on a Friday counts more than a cold call on a Tuesday?I’m going to talk about why cold calling is necessary and how to actually do it.I have made 70,000 outbound cold calls.. making me the most qualified person you know to discuss cold call scripts and how to overcome objections.Prospects will accept calls during “business hours” M-F10 call blocks over the course of a weekMorning 8am-10am, & afternoon 3pm-5pmAnytime a call block is missed10% of your total output capacity is lostIf the average sales rep thinks, “it’s Friday afternoon, prospects don’t want to be bothered”)Prospects are receiving less calls on Friday afternoonsWhich presents the best opportunity for live convos all weekOne call away from changing your week, month, quarter!Never underestimate the power of a Friday afternoon cold call
I believe a tech sales job is the best career path to achieving financial freedom, let me show you the tech sales salaries and then talk about my ideal tech sales career path.A recent comment asked my opinion on, “how to determine if it makes sense to reach the pinnacle of sales leadership (Manager/Director/VP) or as an individual contributor (Enterprise AE)”I am more curious about sales mastery than people leadership mastery at this point. Becoming a great account executive will enable you to become a leader later on. I think the best leaders don’t want to be the leader, but rather the people elect the people they want to be the leader.
I got rejected by 11 of the 24 software companies on this list
Luckily, I ended up landing an account executive job after 2 weeks of truly committing to my job search
This is my comprehensive list of the best 24 Best Software Companies To Work For in 2024

A High Ticket Closer is someone who is responsible for facilitating a purchasing decision for a higher priced item. Now there is lots of debate around what classifies as High Ticket pricing, some say $1000, some say $3000, some say $5000. Based on my 5 years of B2B sales experience, remote closing is usually inbound sales where you are closing a prospect on buying a course, mentorship, or consulting program.Usually you're making 10-15% commission and doing 4-6 calls per day. Income potential is 8-10K/month if you're average but I've had months where I've done $20K or more. But there are 2 specific opportunities, where most of the jobs are coming from at this time.Agencies and Coaches.Well, there's been two very specific disruptions that have created major opportunities in our industry.1. The way people are choosing to learn: EDUCATION2. The way people are marketed to: DIGITAL*Let's connect on LinkedIn 🤝→https://www.linkedin.com/in/trentdresselMost people have no idea what it takes to break into tech sales and waste countless hours & tons of money trying to do it by themselves, or enrolling in expensive bootcamps. Now that’s exactly why I put together an entire free course explaining everything you need to do to land your first tech sales position with no degree or experience required. This free course breaks down what you need to learn, the skills you need to master, & how you can prepare so you can actually land that first tech sales position. Now click the link below and sign up for the free intro course so you can break into tech sales and start making over $70k per year!Sign up for CourseCareers now so you can break into tech sales and start making over $70k per year!: https://coursecareers.com/a/tech**What is Remote Closing | High Ticket Closing (and Is It Legit?)remote closing, remote closing for beginners, what is remote closing, what is remote high ticket closing, high ticket closing,is remote closing legit,is high ticket sales legit,is high ticket closing legit, what is high ticket closing, remote closer, remote jobs 2022,how to make money online, how to make money remotely, remote work,High Ticket Sales,Remote closing high ticket closing near me,high ticket remote closing jobs,Remote Closer,Entrepreneur
I used to wear t-shirt & shorts into the office everyday
Cared more about being comfortable than how I looked.
I'm working on leveling up my dress in 2024
So I spent $3,500 ordering 6 of the exact same white dress shirt to wear everyday.
I feel better about myself when I’m wearing nicer clothes
Especially important WFH on days with no meetings, gotta show up no matter what.
Too much swag is never a bag thing.

I have worked in sales for 5 years, I sold software for the first few years at a large tech company, and now I lead sales for my family business selling medical supplies. Early on in my career, I went into the office 5 days a week and made 100 cold calls a day. Now, I work fully remote and focus chasing big deals. I want to talk to you about some of the lessons I have learned that might help you think differently about your sales career.

My favorite cold call story involves calling a VP at a massive credit union 46 times over 2 years to get a meeting
He included his director on the first meeting (I only had called her 34 times)
They ended up buying a $60k license, we were on a texting basis, & he retired right before implementation lol
Two lessons here:
In my 28 years on earth - I don’t have many regrets, and that has to count for something, right?
I’ve compiled a list of direct actions and processes that can help you build confidence, progress further in life, and make you feel better about yourself and who you are becoming.
I am far from a guru or expert in this space - but I feel I have some valuable lessons to share that I have learned in my first 5 years in sales, building a personal brand of 80k followers across LinkedIn & YouTube, & progressing in life.

Today marks 5 months since joining my family business
Made over 800 cold calls (no CRM/website & built my own account/contact lists)
Sent so many auto emails my gmail almost got banned lol
Acquired 5 new customers resulting in +$50k new revenue
Negotiated a warehouse lease, freight contract, & manufacturing supply chain agreement
I have had a tough time giving up the “software sales AE” self-identity that I found so much confidence in
Trying to reinvent myself by sharing more about what I actually do for work nowadays
We are just getting started

For the last 6 months after losing my corporate software sales job, I have not had a salary, no manager, no quota, & complete control of my calendar & time. I consider myself to be entrepreneurial so I always dreamed what it would be like on the other side, & it’s much different than I imagined. This is what life is like after my corporate job, with no salary for the past 6 months. The good, the bad, & the ugly.

A cold call on Friday counts more than any other day of the week
Every prospect agrees it’s fair game to call them during “business hours” M-F
10 call blocks over the course of a week (morning 8am-10am & afternoon 3pm-5pm)
Anytime a call block is missed, 10% of your total output capacity is lost
If reps think, “it’s Friday afternoon, prospects don’t want to be bothered, let me log off early to hit happy hour”
Prospects are receiving less calls, which presents the best opportunity all week to reach impossible to reach contacts
One call away at any moment from changing your week, month, quarter
Never underestimate the power of a Friday afternoon cold call!
Ps. I now offer individual sales coaching if you need help reworking your script, approach, or someone to role-play with.

I spent the last two months working with a developer to build a fancy new website
The objective was to launch an online sales training platform for SDRs
It’s easier to achieve unrealistic goals than realistic goals
There is less competition for seemingly unrealistic goals than realistically difficult things
Despite investing meaningful time & money into the project
I shut it down on Monday due to technical limitations of my partner (tough conversation to have)
The site I built on my own is not perfect
The timing to go ALL-IN on myself during my move to Denver is not perfect
Having an unusually large goal provides much stronger motivation than a small goal does
I am personally meeting with each of the first 35 SDRs who purchase my new offering (27 spots left)
The SDR accelerator teaches all the secrets & tricks I used to promote 6 times from SDR1 to AE5

Research the tech sales industry: As a result of researching companies & roles, he stumbled across a leader of SDRs LinkedIn post saying they were hiring2. Network: Rather than applying through the company website or LinkedIn & leaving it to chance, he researched the leaders Twitter to uncover his passion for collecting sports cards3. Creatively apply for entry-level sales roles: He bought a $2 LaDainian Tomlinson card (in-part bc it's a unique name and he wanted the subject line to JUMP off the page), he sent the card in mail, messaged the leader on LinkedIn & email comparing himself to LT's football career, "I won't win all the awards but I will show up everyday"4. Prepare for interviews: After he was invited for an interview, he did his homework on the company and the products they offer. He was prepared to talk about why his skills would translate, & share his plan to selling their product.5. Accept a position and continue learning: "My plan over the next 3 months is to do whatever it takes to hit quota"0:00 Kingston’s WHY0:38 Kingston’s Story5:13 Tech Sales Salary is LIFE CHANGING7:42 How Kingston got into Tech Sales11:04 Getting Tech Job in One Month13:03 Tech Interview Process18:09 Kingston’s ALL-IN Mentality20:15 What is Sales Development21:26 What’s next for Kingston’s career23:02 CourseCareers Tech Sales#salesdevelopmentrepresentative

Sales Development in Tech Sales is responsible for identifying and qualifying potential new customers for a company's technology products or services. This typically includes tasks such as researching potential leads, reaching out to those leads through cold email or cold call, and setting up meetings or demos for the sales team to close the deal. The goal of a Sales Development representative is to generate a pipeline of potential customers for the sales team to pursue, and to help move those potential customers through the sales process.

Sales development is an important aspect of business as it helps to generate revenue for the company. Sales development representatives (SDRs) are responsible for identifying and qualifying potential customers, and then passing them on to the sales team (account executives) for further follow-up and discovery.
This sales process helps to ensure that the sales team is only spending time on leads that are likely to convert into paying customers, which can help to increase the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the sales process.
Additionally, sales development (sales development representatives) can help to build relationships with potential customers and establish trust, which can lead to repeat business and long-term customer loyalty. SDRs accomplished these outcomes by cold calling, sending cold emails, and additional prospecting techniques to find success.

Hey there, and welcome to the top 10 mistakes to avoid in software sales. If you're in the business of selling software, you know that it can be a tough market out there. There are plenty of competitors, and it's important to stand out in order to make a sale. But even the best salespeople can make mistakes that cost them a sale. In this video, we'll be discussing the top 10 mistakes to avoid when selling software, so you can close more deals and grow your business.
Mistake #1: Not understanding your product. It's important to have a deep understanding of the software you're selling, including its features, benefits, and limitations. This will not only help you answer questions from potential customers, but it will also give you the confidence you need to sell the product effectively.
Mistake #2: Not understanding your customer. Before you start selling, it's important to understand who your target customer is and what their needs and pain points are. This will help you tailor your sales pitch and show how your software can solve their specific problems.
Mistake #3: Not having a clear value proposition. Your value proposition is a statement that explains why your software is the best solution for your customer. It should be clear, concise, and compelling. Without a strong value proposition, it will be difficult to convince potential customers to choose your product.
Mistake #4: Not building trust with the customer. Trust is a crucial component of any sales process, and it's important to establish it early on in the sales cycle. This can be done through transparency, honesty, and by demonstrating your expertise and knowledge of the software you're selling.
Mistake #5: Not handling objections effectively. Objections are a natural part of the sales process, and it's important to have a plan in place for how to handle them. This might include addressing concerns, offering a solution, or simply listening and understanding where the customer is coming from.
Mistake #6: Not following up with leads. It's important to follow up with leads, even if they're not ready to make a purchase right away. By staying in touch and offering value, you can keep your product top of mind and increase the chances of making a sale down the line.
Mistake #7: Not offering a clear call to action. Your call to action is what you want the customer to do next, whether it's scheduling a demo, signing up for a free trial, or making a purchase. It's important to make this clear and easy for the customer to follow through on.
Mistake #8: Not setting realistic expectations. Setting realistic expectations is key to keeping customers happy and ensuring long-term success. This means being honest about what your software can and can't do, and setting clear timelines for deliverables.
Mistake #9: Not closing the sale. Closing the sale is the final step in the process, and it's important to have a plan in place for how to do it effectively. This might include asking for the sale directly, offering a limited-time discount, or simply summarizing the benefits of your product.
Mistake #10: Not following up after the sale. The sales process doesn't end after the sale is made. It's important to follow up with customers to ensure they're satisfied with their purchase and to identify any areas where they might need additional support.
So there you have it – the top 10 mistakes to avoid in software sales. By avoiding these pitfalls, you can increase your chances of making successful sales and growing your business. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your sales efforts!

Hey everyone, it's Trent here and today we're going to be talking about whether tech sales bootcamps are worth it in 2023.
Now, if you're not familiar with tech sales bootcamps, they are training programs that are designed to teach you the skills you need to succeed in a career in tech sales. These programs can range in length from a few weeks to a few months. But are they worth it? That's the question we're going to be answering today.
On the last tech sales bootcamp video I made, someone commented, “I applied to a tech sales Bootcamp a few months ago. They asked for mandatory attendance on 5pm to 8pm classes and they take 10% of my salary for 3 years. Those 2 conditions made it a no-no for me.”
First, let's talk about the pros of tech sales bootcamps. One major benefit is that they can provide you with a crash course in the skills you need to succeed in tech sales. This can be especially useful if you're transitioning from a different career or if you're just starting out in the tech industry. Tech sales bootcamps can also be a great way to network with other professionals in the field. Many programs offer opportunities for students to connect with industry experts and potential employers, which can be incredibly valuable as you begin your career.
Now, let's talk about the cons. One potential downside of tech sales bootcamps is the cost. These programs can be expensive, and there's no guarantee that you'll land a job after completing the program.
Another potential issue is that tech sales is a competitive field, and having a tech sales bootcamp on your resume may not be enough to set you apart from other candidates. You'll still need to have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the technology you'll be selling. So, is a tech sales bootcamp worth it in 2023?
It really depends on your individual circumstances and goals. If you're committed to pursuing a career in tech sales and you're willing to put in the time and effort to learn the necessary skills, a tech sales bootcamp could be a great investment.
In conclusion, tech sales bootcamps can be a valuable resource for those looking to start a career in the field, but they're not right for everyone. It's important to carefully consider your goals and resources before making a decision.

Salesforce just announced their second round of layoffs (over 10k employees). They said they grew too fast by overanticapming demand, the main way these companies cut cost is reducing marketing spend & firing recruiting & salespeople. I was one of the first people talking about tech layoffs as I predicated in late September, right after twillio & DocuSign laid off 10% of workforce, that many more layoffs were coming. What has me worried this time around is that interest rates are still high, inflation hasn’t really moved, & February is when most layoffs happen anyways because it’s the final opportunity to do so while planning for the year ahead.
None of us are safe right now, this should serve as maximum motivation to build your personal brand, diversify your income streams, & get your money right. Personal brand: you need to be known outside your organization, pick one channel to build on, my recommendation would be linkedin, connect with me now if you haven’t, Diversify your income streams, after you build the personal brand, find a way to monetize it. What seems obvious to you can be gold to others. Get your money right: Reduce your expenses: I deleted door dash, you should be investing in yourself & your business

The Ultimate 5 Step Cold Calling Strategy & Script for B2B Saleshttps://softwaresalesguide.com/software-sales-guide/p/the-ultimate-cold-calling-strategy-script-for-b2b-salesImagine being on the phone all day talking to strangers trying to set meetings with them. In this video I will share why cold calling will is the most important sales skill you will ever learn and explain how it’s still the most effective way to set meetings with poetical customers.Cold Calling is like playing a slot machine where you never lose your money. If you call a prospect out of the blue, interrupting their day, you are taking a risk. You are risking being told no but have the opportunity to be told yes and set the meeting. If you set the meeting that directly leads to more money in your pocket, like winning a jackpot. Gambling is addictive because you want to keep pulling the slot machine, because you can win money, but you risk losing money. If you can re-wire your brain to become addicted to cold calling, similar to a gambling addict, you will become rich.Once you get past the fear of rejection, there is no downside to cold calling too much, the upside is unlimited once you learn how to call & what to say. If you want to know exactly what my B2B cold calling script is visit my website https://softwaresalesguide.com/Cold calling not only makes you money, but it improves your ability to communicate, which is the most important contributing factor to your success.Imagine DMing girls on instagram, I have never had much luck because it doesn’t matter what I say, all that matters is if they like my pics of not. With cold calling, you can pick up the phone as a 23 year old recent grad, you don’t have anything going for you in life, you can call a 55 year old senior executive and convince they to agree to a meeting with you, because you were able to convince them that they could benefit from your product of solution, that’s pretty cool to me.There are so many brilliant people who will never make it because they don’t know how to communicate their ideas. In order to be successful with cold calling, you must be able to explain your value prop (what’s in it for the customer), in 15 seconds or less, otherwise you lose their attention. Take some time after this video to look into your eyes in the mirror & sell yourself on why you are going to be successful, this will increase your confidence. The most important strategy to improving your skill & confidence on the phone is to talk in a way with full conviction. Whenever you jump off a diving board into a pool, you are certain in the moment you will be getting wet. Whenever you are a meeting or a call, talk with absolute belief that what you are saying is a matter of fact. You will come across as someone who knows what they are talking about, more importantly this style of execution will trump any strategy, so what you are actually saying matter less than how you are saying it.I have made over 60,000 cold calls in my sales career and I’m better off because of the work. Picking up the phone is the most direct path to getting what you want in life. Nobody is going to give you meetings, pipeline, or a big commission check, you must go take it. I prepared a cold calling guide that will teach you everything I have learned in less than 2 hours, exactly what scripts I use, live calls to listen to, & the daily strategy I use, visit https://softwaresalesguide.com/ to learn more.

Are you looking for a high paying career that allows you to use your communication skills while also offering endless opportunities for growth and advancement? If so, a career in tech sales might be the perfect fit for you!
In tech sales, the average starting salary is $60k and you don’t even need a degree or experience to get started. Many tech sales professionals enjoy lucrative salaries, flexible work schedules, and the opportunity to work remotely.
Plus, as the technology industry continues to grow and evolve, the demand for skilled tech sales professionals only increases, providing you with a stable and rewarding career path.
Starting a career in tech sales can be a rewarding and challenging experience. Here are some steps you can take to get started:
Research the industry and understand the different types of tech sales roles. Some roles may focus on selling hardware and software products to businesses, while others may involve selling cloud-based services or technical support.
Build your knowledge of the products and services you will be selling. This may involve taking training courses or learning on the job.
Develop your sales skills. This includes things like understanding customer needs, building rapport, and persuading people to make a purchase.
Network and make connections in the tech industry. Attend industry events, join relevant online groups, and connect with people on LinkedIn to find opportunities and learn about new trends and products.
Find a company that aligns with your values and goals. Look for companies that offer training and support for new sales reps, and consider reaching out to recruiters or hiring managers directly to inquire about open positions.
Be persistent and keep learning. Tech sales can be competitive, so be prepared to face rejection and setbacks. Stay positive and focus on continuously learning and improving your skills to increase your chances of success.
You have enough to worry about landing your tech sales job, at least you don’t have to worry about losing your job to artificial intelligence (AI) yet, although it (might) be coming considering AI gave us the steps above.. So if you're ready to join a dynamic and exciting industry, we put together a free training for you sharing why tech sales might be right for you, what you would be doing, and how to get started.
