045 - Welcome to another episode of Quorum, where we glimpse into the future — uncovering the ideas, technologies, and people that are shaping our decentralized world of tomorrow.

In today’s show I spoke with Sascha Kellert, who leads the organizational design at Ownco - which is a platform that help businesses share ownership with their communities (based on contributions - not just investment).

This was a fascinating conversation, where we discussed: how to incentivize contributors for the long term, why ownership is much more than just sharing equity, what nature tells us about decentralization, and much more.

In today’s show I spoke with Tim Cox, who does Biz Dev and Partnerships at PoolTogether (community savings Defi protocol) and ByWassies (NFT project).

This episodes was a deep dive into a word that is such a part of crypto culture that in some ways it's lost some meaning: Partnerships. Tim breaks down how he views them and how to actually do you job in biz dev.

We also discussed: how to be prepared for partnerships using a SWOT analysis, the power of giving to your community, the prevalence of "ghost partnerships" in Web3, and much more.

041 - Welcome to another episode of Quorum, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show, Sam and I spoke with Katy Jeremko, founder of IndieDAO — a network of highly-talented designers and developers who are forging a better way for creatives to work in the music, film, and game industries and beyond.

On today’s show, we discussed:

As a creator, working with IndieDAO means getting to collaborate with like minded people from the DAO, and having a lot of the headaches of working on your own taken care of, like: contracts and legal issues, reputation, and payments.

As a client, IndieDAO has a service arm that provides emerging and value-aligned projects access to their expert design and development teams. If you’re curious about their skills, I recommend you check out their website at IndieDAO.xyz - it’s pretty awesome.

Not only is IndieDAO servicing amazing projects like Pool Suite, Friends with Benefits and more, but they are also working on building their own protocol for companies who want to adopt the same Web3 software that IndieDAO is using to service these clients.

040 - Welcome to another episode of Quorum, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show I spoke with Marcus Aurelius, Contributor at KlimaDAO — which is a DAO with a mission to help combat climate change.

On today’s show, we discussed:

  • The basics of climate change, carbon markets, and how KlimaDAO is helping build a better future
  • The current challenges with today’s antiquated solutions to climate change, and how blockchain solves them
  • And, an inside look at the KlimaDAO culture, including the power of pseudonymity in creating an equal playing field for contributors

⛰️ KlimaDAO: https://twitter.com/KlimaDAO

=======================

More about this episode:

KlimaDAO is an innovative solution using blockchain to make it easier for people who want to reduce the carbon in the environment (to combat climate change) with those on the ground floor who are making the change happen (like people who plant trees for example).

Marcus explained that traditionally, if you’d like to buy a carbon credit (to help offset your carbon emissions) you have to either go to a broker (who might not take you seriously unless you want to buy $100K worth of credits) or you go to a retailer (who can make it more affordable, but come with issues of transparency and trust).

KlimaDAO solves these issues by making it more accessible and transparent to buy carbon credits, and the results is that in only 2 years, they’ve already helped remove over 18 metric tons of carbon from the environment, which is 4% of the overall carbon credits available. That’s crazy!

This was a really exciting conversation. As someone who’s not totally woke to the nuances of climate change, I was so engaged with how KlimaDAO is tackling this problem and also the insane traction they’ve had with their technology.

So it was fun to circle back about a year later and discuss what's happened for everyone, and if you work in Web3, you know a lot can happen in a year.

On this podcast, we talk about how Sam and I got into Web3 and Bankless DAO. We discuss the genesis story for Quorum, and how we collaborated on our podcast mini series (the DAO Contributor Toolkit). We also share why we became a metalabel and our plans to expand it beyond the two of us.

038 - Welcome to another episode of Quorum, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show, Sam and I spoke with Yancey, Cofounder of Metalabel and former Cofounder of Kickstarter. Metalabel is an organization that is building tools and resources to help you be more collaborative with your creative pursuits.

Today’s episode was really a deep dive into the modern creative process. How technology has incentivized us to compete, and alternative paths we can choose as creators to avoid loneliness, have a greater cultural impact on the world, and have more fun while doing it.

More about this episode:

If you’ve been in the game of creating content for any of these big platforms like twitter, youtube, google search, etc, I’m sure you’ve felt the rat race that content marketing can become. Sometimes it just feels like you can’t ever stop making content. You just need to keep making more and more in order to stay relevant, and that kind of sucks the fun out of it.

These platforms have forced us to compete against each other for the attention of searchers. On one hand it’s enabled some amazing content and creators to rise to the top, but on the other hand it’s also led to many creators getting burnt out and quitting the content game altogether.

In this episode, Yancey shares alternative ways of organizing yourself as a creator that make content (and other creative passions) more fun.

Yancey and his team at Metalabel, believe that there is a better way for us to work, and they are building the tools and resources needed for this change to become a reality. Strap in for a look into what the future of the creator economy might become and how YOU can be a part of the change.

More about this episode:

In working on this podcast it’s been really fun to tease out the backgrounds, expertise and knowledge from some of our amazing guests from Web3. And in today’s episode, Sam thought it would be fun to switch roles and hear more about my background and journey from Web2 to Web3.

We discussed my first business (Healthy Hemp Oil), which was in the Cannabis space. It was an online ecommerce brand helping educate people on the power of CBD and it also curated and sold my favorite products in the space.

These days you may get some eye rolls when talking about CBD because it seems that everyone and their grandma knows about it — and perhaps even uses it. But back when I started it in 2014, I used to get a lot of puzzled and confusing looks when I told people what I did.

We dive into my entrepreneurial journey of quitting my job, moving to Thailand and building this business to over $12M+ of total revenue and over 20K+ customers in our 9 year span as a company.

We also discuss how I pivoted into Web3, got involved in BanklessDAO and launched the Bounty Hunter podcast (now Quorum) with Sam.

Buckle up for a raw look at entrepreneurship, lifestyle design and trying to figure out life.

More about this episode:

Yury is such a wealth of knowledge. He’s particularly well known in Web3 for his expertise around DAOs. In the first interview I did with Yury back in April, we dove into his background, we teased apart the  Superdao platform and how it helps builders start DAOs.

In this follow up episode, we go deep into how to build great products and communities that people will love. Yury shares his experience building Superdao, how he used the startup playbook to validate his hypothesis about how to add value to his potential customers.

In this bear market, finding your true product market fit is what is separating really strong communities and products from the ones that are losing ground and contributors.

Yury’s not afraid to tell it like it is, and explains why he thinks that just putting your head down and building is terrible advice for leaders and builders in this space. In this episode, he offers sound advice for builders and contributors on what to focus on instead.

More about Logos DAO:

One of the challenges with the explosion of activity in Web3 is that there are so many projects vying for your attention. As a contributor it’s hard to know where to go and how to spend your time.

There’s a big role here for platforms that can help curate and match the DAO curious and DAO veterans to their favorite communities. That’s exactly how I see Logos DAO adding value to this ecosystem.

Isaac from Logos DAO has an interesting history. Classically trained in electrical engineering he accrued some early career experience working for a company that makes lasers. Yes, high-powered lights that cut things. Just wait till you hear him describe this laser. It’s so crazy.

When Issac pivoted to Web3 he wanted to find a way to help others discover where they fit in this new economy — and Logos DAO is an opportunity to do just that.

=======================

More about twoplus:

Sadly, burnout in Web3 is incredibly common. There’s something about the always on, always connected nature of the internet that is leading more and more people to become overworked and mentally exhausted.

In this episode Louis shares his personal history working in the Web3 space through a bull market and experiencing burnout himself. He shares his struggles with anxiety, insomnia and other issues that affected his work and personal life.

Louis tried psychoanalysis therapy and other tools, but ultimately found that they didn't help him that much. So he committed to diving deeper into the world of mental health, and he ended up discovering many alternative modalities that have since helped him get a better grip on his own wellbeing.

We talk a lot about Mental Fitness — which is a way to reframe mental health to be more tangible and accessible for people.

At a basic level it’s the idea that you can work out your mind just like you can work out your body. It’s about being proactive, finding tools and resources that can help you become resilient and taking positive steps towards integrating them into healthy daily habits.

That’s exactly why twoplus was built. At twoplus’s cohort based learning program, you join other DAO contributors, builders and employees who all are working through the same challenges in this industry. You’ll learn from various experts, build new habits and set goals to improve your own personal mental fitness.

By the way, if this sounds interesting to you, a new 8 week course starts in November and is now taking applications.

032 - Welcome to another episode of Quorum, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show, I spoke with Pablo Mocada-Larrotiz, Cofounder of MoonDAO — which is a DAO with a mission to democratize access to space exploration.

We discussed: the importance of decentralizing access to space exploration, becoming the first DAO to send someone to space, the current state of space travel today, and how to get involved in the MoonDAO community.

=======================

More about MoonDAO:

Historically, space exploration was mainly controlled by governments, and more recently by private companies as well like: SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic... But MoonDAO aims to change that.

MoonDAO has kind of a funny history — they initially had the idea of buying a moon rock together, more as a PR stunt, but pivoted into sending someone into space, when one of their DAO members had a connection to Blue Origin (the private space company founded by Jeff Bezos).

So around December 2021, in order to fund this idea, they set up a crowdfund on Juicebox for $450K (which is roughly the cost of a ticket to send someone to space).

They not only hit that goal, but ended up raising over $8 million dollars worth of ETH in the end. This is so cool, and it shows you just how passionate people on the internet are about space.

Now since that historic raise, they became the first DAO to send someone to space via Blue Origin (which we talk about in this episode), and they also have a decent sized treasury in order to fund the rest of their roadmap.

MoonDAO is just a really exciting project to be watching because they go big with their ambitions, and it’s inspiring to see just how much traction they’ve gotten already. It really shows the power of collective action when funneled around a common purpose and goal.

Also, Pablo from MoonDAO is incredibly humble despite these ambitious plans. I really enjoyed speaking to him and hearing the current state of space exploration today and how MoonDAO is working towards being a big part of this frontier industry.

People are gaining and losing millions of dollars, new technologies are being built (and dying), sometimes in a matter of months. It’s an emerging space that is incredibly exciting, but also kind of scary.

The thesis for why the Rug exists is simple: Let’s make fun of this craziness. The Rug offers a break from the gravity of “trying to build the next internet”, to remind you to take a break and to laugh at yourself or at least this industry for a little while.

💼 Gateway: https://twitter.com/Gateway_xyz

=======================

More about Gateway:

Web3 reputation is so hot these days, and there's a good reason. Most traditional Web2 companies evolved to have a bit of a perverse business model where they have access to the data about us and are able to share it at will to the highest bidder.

The promise of Web3 reputation is that we should own our data, and that we should control who gets to see our data. Not proud of your contributions at a particular NFT project? You should be able to set that aside, and showcase the work that you are actually proud of.

These Web2 platforms are also mostly built on self attested data. Which means that anyone can claim that they are the CEO of Twitter, or have created a dozen companies — even if this is completely false. But that’s about to change.

Using technology like verified credentials, Gateway allows you to issue digital badges on the blockchain that can attest to the work that you’ve done in DAOs and other Web3 projects. The magic here is that they will be issued by the DAOs themselves and other trusted organizations.

This has huge ramifications into DAO onboarding and hiring — as you’ll see on this show.

=======================

More about Poko:

In the US, it’s easy to take for granted that we have a court system that works fairly well. If someone wrongs you, you can take them to court and try to make it right. This allows entrepreneurs to take risks because they know they won’t get screwed (as much) by unscrupulous people.

In developing markets this usually isn't the case. The lack of a legal court and legal system that they can trust leads many would-be entrepreneurs to skip starting a business altogether because the risk is too great.

Poko alleviates this pain point by helping entrepreneurs create DAOs with a legal wrapper in their local jurisdiction to help them with things like: contracts, asset ownership, dispute resolution, limited liability, tax certainty, and more.

015 - Welcome to another episode of Bounty Hunter, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show I spoke with Evin McMullen — CEO of Disco, which is a tool bringing the future of decentralized identities and reputations to our everyday lives.

Imagine a world where you hop into a new DAO and they instantly know who you are, projects you’ve worked on, and your accomplishments (not just how much money is in your wallet).

That’s the vision for Disco. They help you build your Web3 reputation and identity by giving you a “data backpack” that travels with you everywhere you go online, and helps you collect data.

With Disco, you own and control the data you collect, so you can choose whom you want to share it with and what specifically you want to share (or keep private).

This dramatically impacts the speed that we can trust each other online, and the amount of things we can collaborate on — and that’s why I’m so excited to share this episode with you.

On today’s show, we discussed:

  • The difference between decentralized identity and reputation
  • Our current state of “surveillance capitalism” and what we can do about it
  • What taking back control of your data actually looks like
  • and how have more fun in Web3

All of that and more in today’s episode.

014 - Welcome to another episode of Bounty Hunter, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show I spoke with Dan Wu — Governance expert and Product Manager at Orca Protocol, which is a tool that helps DAO working groups (or as they call them - Pods) improve their ability to collaborate.

Essentially, Orca wraps around your Gnosis safe (which is the most trusted multi-sig wallet right now), and it adds additional functionality like user permissions and role management.

Orca wants to help DAOs find the shape and structure that works best for them by starting with working groups aka “Pods", and moving their way up to localized points of hierarchy.

On today’s show, we discussed:

  • Why “Pods” are the most efficient way to get work done
  • The difference between product management in Web3 vs Web3
  • Dan’s hilarious TikTok account
  • And how to avoid burnout

All of that and more in today’s episode.

013 - Welcome to another episode of Bounty Hunter, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show I spoke with Yury Lifshits — CEO of Superdao, which is a platform that makes it incredibly easy to start, manage, and grow a DAO with just a few simple clicks. It’s basically Shopify for DAOs.

Recently, Superdao raised $11.5 Million to become the one-stop-shop for all your DAO tooling needs, including things like: giving equity to contributors, raising funds with tokens & NFTs, making decisions with your community, and operating on a global scale.

I’ve personally used Superdao to play around with creating a DAO for Bounty Hunter and it was ridiculously easy. It’s as simple as setting up your twitter account.

In addition, Yury is super knowledgeable about how to build a DAO in a smart, thoughtful way -- without wasting time. He’s my go-to resource for how to think about creating a DAO, so I think you’ll really have a lot of takeaways from this interview.

On today’s show, we discussed:

  • Yury’s best insights from talking to over 1000 DAO operators
  • His playbook for creating a DAO from scratch
  • The issue with creating tokens too early

All of that and more in today’s episode.

012 - Welcome to another episode of Bounty Hunter, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show Brandon speaks with Andros Wong, Co-Founder of Wonder, which is a best-in-class community management tool for DAOs and Web3 communities.

Wonder helps DAO operators manage projects and teams, and it helps contributors build their on-chain resumes and receive payment directly in crypto.

The Wonder team raised $2.5 Million last November to make this dream a reality, and we dove deep into Andros’ vision for how to improve community management in Web3 and DAOs.

On today’s show, we discussed:

  • Superfluid teams, pods, and the future of coordination
  • Building a Web3 Identity and reputation
  • Increasing transparency of DAO compensation
  • How to start using Wonder with your DAO

All of that and more in today’s episode.

011 - Welcome to another episode of Bounty Hunter, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show Brandon speaks with Anubhav, founder of Parcel, which is building “PaymentOS” — a trustless and fair payments system for the Contributor Economy.

Since launching their Beta in June 2021, Parcel has helped DAOs send over $120 million worth of payments to DAO contributors — and they are just getting started.

We discuss the difficulties of being paid as a contributor in the Web3 space, how to empower disadvantaged people in Web3, and the future of Parcel and DAO contributor payments.

In today’s show Brandon speaks with Kairon -- who is a pathfinder at Rabbit Hole, and a nomadic contributor to a handful of other DAOs.

Kairon is a humble leader, whose primary focus is helping contributors get into the right mindset, so they can be as effective and impactful as possible within the Web3 space.

008 - Welcome to another episode of Bounty Hunter, where we believe that contributing to a DAO is the best way to find engaging and rewarding work in the new Web3 economy.

In today’s show Brandon speaks with Zach Anderson, a cofounder of both Converge and Coordinape – the latter of which is one of the best ways for DAOs to distribute earnings amongst a team of contributors.

We discuss how Coordinape can help DAOs reflect on what they are prioritizing by looking at where allocations are going -- and how this can help facilitate difficult conversations when that compensation isn’t in line with the goals of the DAO.
