In previous episodes, we talked about how the traditional sports business model is outdated. Broadcasting rights will not increase forever, commercial partnerships are looking into maximizing the ROI of every penny they invest, and matchday revenue has its limits because of capacity constraints.
In addition, there is always the lingering topic of monetizing the international fan.
How do you solve this?
Technology can definitely help and our two guests today, Robert Rice, Founder & CEO at Transmira & Founder & Michal Glijer CEO at Zetly, are gonna open our eyes to new possibilities.
Both organizations are focused on bringing Digital Twin Technology and the Metaverse to the world of football. During the conversation, we talk about:
This was a blast and I got a whole new understanding of digital twin technology. Hopefully, you will as well!
Remember, WFS Europe is approaching (September 20-21), and we're excited to announce that both Robert and Mike will go into full detail on the WFS stage!

Today, we are very proud to kick off a new series in the World Football Summit podcast aimed at celebrating and encouraging female leadership in football. And to celebrate this, we are doing things a bit differently on this episode. Rather than having one guest to kick it off, we have gone into the vault and rescued some of the best quotes from female speakers at different World Football Summits events of 2022 on what it takes to lead, challenges, mindset…and so much more.
The speakers you will hear from in this episode include, among many others, Cindy Parlow-Cone, Maggie Murphy, Susan Destombes, Danita Johnson, Lina SouLouKou, or Ebru Koksal, among many others.
Then, throughout the year, we will speak with different female trailblazers who are helping shape the future of football and we will continue to bring in remarkable female leaders on an ongoing basis.

You can read the article HERE
You can also see his participation in the WFS Europe stage on this VIDEO
If you are a regular follower of the industry you know this is one of the key priorities for sports properties worldwide. What are the main conclusions of the study?

On November 16th-17th, the global football industry gathered in Durban (South Africa) for the first-ever World Football Summit Africa. If there was one common theme we took away from it is that “there is massive untapped potential in the African football industry” but it needs to address the challenges that are blocking growth, one of the main ones being finding new sources of revenue.
There are three pillars within the commercial marketing model of football clubs: Merchandising, Matchday, and Sponsorships.
And it was precisely on this last one that there was an amazing panel on the live stage of WFS Africa where Kike Levy, Southern Sports Lead at Meta - Victor Williams, CEO at NBA Africa, and Kabelo Bosilong, Founder at SportSense gave a true masterclass on sponsorship and how African football clubs can address these challenges. Anybody can learn from this session, so we encourage you to listen in. You will learn about the importance of focusing on the fundamentals, the role that digital can play in gathering customer data while also amplifying digital activations, or how the player empowerment era is changing the traditional commercial marketing model.

The start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is just 10 days away now and it seems like a perfect time to talk about the tournament from “the business” side. A few weeks ago in WFS Europe, we welcomed Khaled Al- Suwaidi, Director of Stakeholder Relations at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the live stage in Sevilla.
The masterful David Garrido carries out this interview with Khaled; no stone is left unturned. They look at the objectives they have for the region after the World Cup, expectations on the pitch and off it, and the elements that define the fan experience but they also have time to tackle some of the most controversial issues that include safety, sustainability or equality and inclusion among others.
Our recommendation is for you to listen to the entire interview trying to be as objective as possible to understand the “rationale” behind some of the decisions. Then you may find yourself changing your mind once you listen to it, or maybe not! But at least you made sure you listened to both arguments and concerns!
The World Cup is not the only major global football industry event taking place next week. On November 16-17 World Football Summit will be in Durban for the first-ever WFS Africa. Some of the top sports industry leaders like Mr. Danny Joordaan (SAFA), Victor Williams (NBA), or Marcos Pelegrin (LaLiga) who we welcomed to the show for Episode 11 will join close to 80 speakers to help shape the future of African football

Last week, during WFS Europe, Sevilla became the capital of the global football industry for two days. This week we wanted to bring you a special episode, taken from an amazing panel out of the 50+ that were available at the event.
As technology evolves, the partnership model between brands and football clubs needs to keep pace, as it has evolved from "the brand" perspective, to the digital activation phase and the formation of communities in web 2, and we are now entering the era of web 3.
To understand this landscape, three fantastic experts join Fabien Arneodo (from eShot Labs) to shed some light on where and how the space will evolve in the new era:
This is a true masterclass for anybody in the industry as it provides a perspective from top-class clubs, brands, and sports properties. Enjoy!

If there is one thing that defines sports is the set of "emotions" it is able to create during live matches. Football fans around the globe can remember when, where or who they were with when a unique moment of a game took place.
What if football clubs or broadcasters could capture such moments in real time and use them as a fantastic tool for fan engagement?
eShot Labs is a business doing just that and today, we welcome their co-founder & CEO, Fergus Leleu, and their CMO, Fabien Arneodo to explain why they believe that NFT technology enables football clubs and sports properties around the world to connect with their fans at a much deeper level leveraging from the power of emotions. In a world of fragmented attention, especially among the younger fans, and where reaching them is something that must be done almost instantly, eShot Labs offers sports brands the opportunity to create video NFTs in real time.
They also share examples of teams who are "playing" best in the NFT space, how they add the lever of emotion to an industry that so far has been about ego and speculation, why they are "platform-agnostic," and much more.
Enjoy!

We are living through a transformational era in which the transition from web2 to web3 promises to open a wide array of revenue opportunities for football clubs, whether it's through merchandise, sponsorship, or media rights. At the same time though, the need for sports properties to protect their intellectual properties is more crucial than ever.
To get more clarity on the matter, we invited Etienne Sanz de Acedo, CEO of the International Trademark Association.
This was a true masterclass for any sports industry leader as he explains:
IP is definitely one of the topics of the future. So much so, that there soon will be initiatives of teams protecting games on the moon!
We also touch upon some of the most relevant topics for football properties from an IP perspective such as counterfeit merchandise items, piracy, and broadcasting and what the future of IP may look like.

This year at WFS Europe we are launching a new track specifically on understanding all the elements that maximize player performance. The industry has evolved from focusing on the physical component to doing so on realms like mental awareness, nutrition, and sleep, which is precisely the topic of this episode
World Football Summit sits down with one of the biggest experts in the world on the science of sleep, Dr. Meeta Singh MD, Performance Sleep Medicine Consultant, Founder & CEO at Performance Delta LLC.
Dr. Singh is a board-certified physician and psychiatrist concentrated in the applied science of sleep to help optimize athletic performance. Her expertise in the sports industry is remarkable as she has worked with organisations from the NFL, NBA, MLB, the US Olympic Team, and even football properties in Europe and Asia.
Find out more about Dr. Singh:
The conversation covers general aspects like circadian rhythms, the latest research around the science of sleep, the factors that influence sleep (including nutrition, light, or napping), and how all of this is applied to the realm of player performance. Dr. Singh also shares "best-in-class" examples and practical advice from the sports industry that athletes, coaches, or any executive in the football ecosystem can learn from.
The best thing is that Dr. Singh is a confirmed speaker for WFS Europe, so you can expect to hear more insights from her on the live stage!

Magnifi Co-founder & CEO, Vinayak Shrivastav, talks to us about how Artificial Intelligence can influence the football industry at a time when fans are changing the way they consume sports due to the vast amount of content and stimuli they are receiving from social media and other platforms.
This was something that our partners for WFS Europe, LaLiga, and Nielsen published in this report. The main conclusion of the study is that people are consuming more sports-related content, although they are doing so across more platforms.
The challenge arises when having to gather all of the resources to create content at scale that will help tackle the problem of "fragmented attention." After all, and as we discussed during the conversation, the average attention span has decreased to 8 seconds...
To that extent, a solution that has become extremely effective in recent years is short-form video content, and AI has emerged as the perfect tool to battle against this loss of engagement that many sports brands are experiencing. As Vinayak explains, Artificial Intelligence technology helps create personalised content at scale and Magnifi specializes in doing just that.
Other topics that are covered during the interview include why we should be excited about the rollout of AI, the realms of the sports industry that will benefit from it our the lessons that Magnifi has learned from working with other sports properties that can be applied to football.
Feel free to learn more about Magnifi on their website.

World Football Summit speaks exclusively to Jordan Gardner, an American sports executive who is Former Chairman of the Board, Managing Partner, and Co-Owner at FC Helsingør, a football team from Denmark.
Three years after his group acquired the Danish soccer club, he shares with us many valuable lessons about culture, leadership, and much more, which help prove why he was a worthy finalist for the Best Executive Award at World Football Summit.
Before FC Helsingør, Gardner held minority stakes in Swansea City AFC in Wales and Dundalk FC in the Republic of Ireland. His approach, which is contrary to that of other North American investors, is to start small and learn the business from the base. You can find more about him on:
