“The danger of artificial intelligence isn't that it's going to rebel against us, but that it's going to do exactly what we ask it to do”
~ AI researcher Janelle Shane via TED.
I must admit, I’m a bit of a skeptic when it comes to AI. Perhaps my skepticism is unfounded because I lack the knowledge necessary to understand AI. But in the back of my mind I’m always thinking about how ultimately AI is programmed by humans, and that can easily lead to bias and abuse.
In this interview with Triveni Gandhi, we talked about:
Triveni is a Jill-of-all-trades data scientist, thought leader, and advocate for the responsible use of AI who likes to find simple solutions to complicated problems. As Responsible AI Lead at Dataiku, she builds and implements custom solutions to support the responsible and safe scaling of AI. Raya Usher is an Ironman certified coach and trains triathletes that have gone on to compete in Ironman European and World Championships. She’s also my coach.
Raya is a former Canadian International Alpine ski racer. She has an incredible knack for knowing when to push me and when I need a break. So much of that is data driven, and that’s what we’re going to talk about.
And so much more.

Kim Rees is a frequent keynote speaker and design executive. On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I'll be talking to Kim about her work in making data work for people instead of people work for data.
I first met Kim in 2014 at the Tapestry conference. Back then, Kim was the Co-founder and Head of Visualization at Periscopic. In 2018, Kim started the data experience team at Capital One.
Kim has a keen interest in using data to make a social impact. At Periscopic, her work was used to promote data transparency and public awareness and deliver messages of action. Education, government, gun violence, politics, tech, she’s done it all.
In this episode we cover:
Building team
Politics
As well as some fun questions.

On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I am joined by Elissa Fink. Elissa was the Chief Marketing Officer at Tableau for nearly 12 years. Since retiring from Tableau, Elissa has been a board member for many companies, always looking for a reason to keep herself busy.
Elissa is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. I want to know why she is so generous, gracious, and intentional about helping others. We’re going to explore what it means to be kind, how we can be kinder to ourselves and to other people. I want to know what makes Elissa tick and how I can learn from her to be more kind and helpful to others.
I first met Elissa in April 2007, only a couple of days after I first downloaded Tableau. She has been a close friend, confidant, and ally ever since. She had an incredible career helping Tableau grow.
If you want to learn what it means to be kind, how you can be kind to others and how you can be kind to yourself, then this episode is for you.

To have a winning mindset you have to have enough belief in your own abilities to know that you can win – which is what you’ve set out to achieve in the first place. Developing a winning mindset doesn’t come easily; it is possible to change your mindset to ensure you can get to a more positive place over time.
On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I am joined by Will Sutton. Will is a consultant at The Information Lab. The first time I saw Will Sutton he was on stage performing magic in front of thousands at the 2022 Tableau Conference. Will was the winner of IronViz and shortly after joined our team at The Information Lab.
Will has done lots of interviews about how he created what he did for IronViz, but in this chat we’re going to focus on how he developed his winning mentality.
We’re going to discuss:
- How to look at the past to develop a more positive mindset
- How to overcome struggles to build positivity
- How to handle adversity in the moment
- How to find those moments when things are going in your favor and how to take advantage of them
A winning mindset doesn’t have to be complex. Instead, it’s a fairly simple notion that could really change how you deal with small failures in difficult situations.

“Marketing is really just about sharing your passion.” — Michael Hyatt, NY Times Best Selling Author
The first moment I used Tableau, I knew I was using a revolutionary product. There was something different about it. It didn’t take me long to realize the differentiator was the passion of the people behind the product. That’s where today’s guest comes in.
On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I am joined by Ellie Fields. She is the Chief Product & Engineering Officer at Salesloft. Prior to joining Salesloft, Ellie was the first product marketer at Tableau and eventually grew that team to more than 30 people.
We’re going to discuss:
- The core principles of product marketing
- Starting product marketing from scratch
- Being part of a team creating revolutionary product
- Her impact on the lives and careers of so many people
- How product management & product marketing intersect
- Why you should closely align product marketing with your community
Product marketing is about bringing a product to market, promoting it, and selling it to a customer. At its core, product marketing is about positioning, differentiation, and value proposition. Product marketing involves understanding the product’s target audience, the competition, the unique value the product brings and using strategic messaging to boost awareness and demand for the product.
Where do you start if you’re the first person marketing a new product? What do you do when you realize how revolutionary that product is?
You need to leverage the skills, creativity, and enthusiasm of the team around you to create and market a great product. Everyone must believe in the same set of shared values, thoughts and beliefs. And this needs to be communicated to potential customers.

“Starting and growing a business is as much about the innovation, drive and determination of the people who do it as it is about the product they sell.” — Elon Musk
When people develop this entrepreneurial mindset, they empower themselves to be successful in whatever they choose. Whether they own a business or work for someone else, people need the skills and confidence to identify opportunities, solve problems and sell their skills.
On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I am joined by Ann Jackson, Head Coach of The Data School New York. Before joining us in January 2022, Ann was the founder of Jackson Two, a boutique data analytics consulting firm.
We’re going to discuss two main topics:
- The challenges women face in the workplace
- What it’s like to be a female entrepreneur

People lie with charts, maybe intentionally, maybe not. Learning how to interpret and understand charts will help you differentiate between truth and lies. Despite the proliferation of more and more tools, the ability of people to understand data and charts hasn’t improved much.

Getting more women into tech is one of the greatest challenges companies are facing. Despite conversations about gender diversity in tech, women are still underrepresented. Women face obstacles and discrimination that men don't, and that's not acceptable. Change is happening, but we need to make it happen faster.
On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I am joined by Larissa Amoroso, Vice President, Tableau Community. We talk about her experience being a woman in tech, the challenges she has faced, how to attract more women into tech jobs, and more.
If you are interested in helping to bring more women into tech and want to educate yourself on what's actually happening, this episode is for you.
