AAP new recommendation: Children 6 years or older should be annually tested for obesity through methods like body mass index (BMI) checks and motivational interviews. They then recommend the use of weight loss drugs in children 12 years of age in younger for the sole purpose of weight loss. Children 13 and older should be considered as candidates for weight loss surgery.

The mission of public health might be disease prevention and health for all. The reality is that it’s a world of unpaid internships, preferential hiring practices, and downright racism. In this week’s episode, Stefanie sits down with her fellow Drexel alum to discuss, “Why Is Public Health So Racist?” and just how to navigate all white spaces when you are anything but.
In this episode, we’re going to focus on the Christian Right. While they don’t represent the entirety of the Christian Church they are probably the most visible and hold a heck of a lot of power. In last week’s episode, we discussed the origins of white evangelicals. Both fact and fiction. Fiction: It was a response to Roe v. Wade Fact: It was a response to integration and all-white Christian academies losing their tax-exempt status as well as to throw a monkey wrench in gay rights. We are following up on the last episode where we talked about HIV, monkeypox, and the Christian Right. When researching for that episode I was most shocked by the level of influence the Christian Right, evangelicals, and the moral majority have on public health. Examples include:· Delayed response to HIV Abstinence-only education Bans on gender-affirming care Don’t Say Gay Bills
For that reason, I wanted to bring on a guest with more insight into the inner workings of the Christian church Episode 2's Guest is Eruke Ohwofasa: Eruke is a theologian with a master’s degree in Divinity. She is also a Ph.D. student in religion with a concentration in comparative theology. Her research interests are comparative theology using African, Indigenous, and womanist methods.
