In this episode I discuss the lack of care provided from men when their female partners are unwell and need care. As the care giver I find that when one is ill you just get on with it but when the person is extremely ill and can't care for themselves if they don't have a network of sisterhood they could end up neglected and in come cases it could be fatal.

WHERE ARE YOUR PEOPLE FROM?
This week Buckingham Palace is being exposed again for claims of racism. Brown skin- by India Arie is a song that celebrates and appreciates people from the black community. I made a connection to it because within black and brown communities when we ask the question "where are your people from?" it is to build connections and a form of bounding and understanding. When this same question is asked by somebody outside of the melanated community it is a form of othering and indirectly letting the person know that you don't belong here. In the UK we still can't seem to talk about race without tiptoeing around the matter.
NICE WHITE PARENTS
I talk about a podcast that I recently listened to based on an experience of a white middle class parent documenting her experience in New York Brooklyn, the gentrification of inner city school and how it effects families from black and brown communities and those of lower income. I was not surprised by some of their actions and responses because it's always from a well meaning place but it ends up harming marginalised communities.

This situation had me thinking about real life situations of friends and friends of friends who were heartbroken when they found out that their father was unfaithful.

In this episode I discuss what it is to do water activities (SWIMMING) when you have black hair. What that means for treatments, styling and trying to keep your hair is good condition even with wigs, weaves and braids. When you don't have type 4c hair you just don't get it!

The down side of being a nice person is that people take liberties and believe that you are stupid. Kindness is always taken as a weakness. With that said; in this episode, I go on to discuss childcare, the ups and downs of it all. The sacrifices that parents make when making career choices and choosing (if you can afford to have) a nanny. If not most people rely on their family network for support if they have it. I touch on issues surrounding being the first daughter/first child in a west African household the impact it has on all children involved.
The morel of this story is that people should look after their CHILDREN where they can and not make excuses.

I think what people are referring to when they talk about the soft life is financial freedom. Not having to worry about money. Being comfortable with your finances so that one can spend more time in leisure. I'm concerned that some people will get a rude awakening if they that that they can take short cuts by become a house wife because then you don't have to go out and work. Unfortunately the duties that come with caring for the home is LOOONNNGGG and there is nothing soft about it.

Peter Mudahy the owner of the Pak's beauty supply store has recent come out and said that he is BLACK?! In an interview on the coiled podcast (linked below). When asked his ethnicity he claimed the he is Jamaican. I found this very interesting because this is the first time that it has come to light in public. I am not disputing his ethnicity although by my passion it sounds as though I am.
Just for context Pak's is known to be a Pakistani Family run business which dominates the hair industry here in London.UK.
I find it interesting that one can pick and choice when they want to be black in public, its a great marketing tactic and he is not the first person to use it.
Not only that he made a very questionable comment in the interview which was flag up by Leanne Alie:
CEO of Pak's: 'to me there is no value in buying Black owned and supporting Black owned businesses'Yet he still tried to position Pak's as part Black owned.
