Mateo Gutiérrez is an Austin Texas based artist and beginning in 2023 he will be traveling throughout Texas and self-exhibiting his work, and this podcast will capture those conversations. The guiding theme of the podcast is the democratization of art along with the empowerment of ordinary people to talk about and solve the problems faced in American society through the lens of art.
Mateo talks with retired public school teacher of 25+ years (and his brother) Stephen Gutiérrez about his life as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in the Ann Arbor Public School system. Where did it all go wrong? What were some of the causes and effects of mass shootings on your life as a teacher? Where do we go from here and how does this all relate to art and the purpose of art today?
