Struggling at school when you have a disability can impact your grades, stress levels, and overall experience. Knowing what types of accommodations are available and having the confidence to ask for what you need will set you up for academic success. In this episode, I sit down with Royal Roads University’s access advisor, Alexandra Kovic-Bodiroza to discuss the topic of accommodations. Navi holds a Bachelor of technology Degree from India and completed her Leadership Diploma from BCIT. She is currently enrolled in the PFP Designation with CSI. As a Branch Manager with over 13 years of financial experience, Navi is one of the highly trusted leaders at Coast Capital Savings. Navi actively volunteers 

within her community and is currently a member of the Business Women’s Network at Coast Capital.

In this episode, we speak with former paralympian and founder of Blind Beginnings, Shawn Marsolais, about her journey and passion for changing the perceptions of what it means to be blind. 

Blind Beginnings’ founder and Director of Programs and Community Engagement, Shawn Marsolais, has had less than 2% of her vision since she was 18, yet she lives a very full life. A former Paralympian, and multiple Canadian record holder in swimming, Shawn went on to obtain her Masters Degree, and in 2014 she became a parent.

In 2008, she founded Blind Beginnings with the vision of helping blind or partially sighted children reach their full potential. Since then,

hundreds of  children and their families have been inspired by Shawn’s vision of limitless potential and have benefited from the organization’s services, support and programs.

Zafira Nanji Scott is an experienced Human Resources professional, having led Global HR Advisory and Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development & People Leadership at multiple Crowns and within the private sector.   In her current role with BC Financial Services Authority, Zafira is recognized as a resourceful coach, and advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion with a focus on business readiness, mindful and impactful leadership.  Zafira lives in a world of intentional inclusion, intersecting multiple diversities through her personal and professional worlds.  Outside of her day job, Zafira is the founder of Zari HR Consulting, volunteers as an advisor to the Immigrant Employment Council of British Columbia, at the Community of Practice with the President’s Group, co-hosts the Human Resources Podcast – The Vault, and firmly in the sandwich generation.  Zafira has an MBA in Human Resources Management, holds the CPHR and SHRM-SCP designations and is working on her ICF designation.  Most recently, Zafira was nominated for a Diversity Leadership UnTapped Award by the Open Door Group.
