I hope you'll enjoy this special guest episode from our friends at Storypillar. Storypillar is a podcast for kids and their grownups that tackles the sticky situations kids face while growing up. It features a story-loving caterpillar named Sneak, Sneak’s older sister, a butterfly named Bean, and Meg, a human person who writes and produces the podcast. This guest mini-episode features Bean the butterfly doing a mindful check-in, which she calls a Bean-o-meter check. We all know that mindfulness is about slowing down and paying attention to the things that are happening inside you and around you. So I thought it would be fun for you to hear how Bean checks in with her own feelings. Bean will also say a few affirmations, which listeners of Like You are very familiar with.

Encore: Today we’ll learn some ways to practice mindfulness any time, anywhere, inside your own mind. This episode is inspired by all you kids who are heading back to school. When you can't stop in the middle of the day to listen to a podcast, remember that you have everything you need inside yourself to find your calm and control your own feelings.
It's a mindfulness mashup featuring Like You and Best Day Yet! This is a special episode of the podcast Mashups from Kids Listen.
From the Mashups episode description: Meet two mindfulness podcasts. Our friends Noah of Like You and Marjorie of Best Day Yet, along with her kids North and Amelie join us. What kind of game do you think we could play with two mindfulness podcasts? We start off with a highlight they each share showcasing their mash-up partner’s pod, and end with a personal contribution created just for you listeners.
Special notes for this episode:
And as always here's where to find Like You:
Summer Encore: On this episode we'll learn how to use the acronym RAIN to manage our difficult, stormy emotions. Then we'll make our own rainstorm, before finally finding our own rainbow. 🌈
This episode features a process for regulating emotions using the acronym "RAIN," which I've summarized below.
R - Recognize the feeling and give it a name.
A - Allow yourself to feel the feeling.
I - Investigate the feeling with kindness.
N - Not me - because the feeling is not who you are. Feelings come and go but you're always you.
I did not create the RAIN acronym. It is commonly used in practices of mindfulness as a way to regulate difficult emotions. I adapted the acronym to make the N easier to understand for kids - other versions of the acronym usually use "Non-identification," "Not-identify," or occasionally "Natural awareness." They all mean the same thing. If you encounter the acronym elsewhere, you may sometimes see the A as "Accept" or "Acknowledge." Again these are essentially the same, but I chose the word I thought best for kids to grasp. If you want to learn more about the RAIN method, you might want to start here or here.
