Words & Work English -- Communication Skills in the Healthcare Setting

Hi and welcome to the Words & Work English podcast! This podcast's aim is to be an educational resource for students and medical professionals who want to improve their clinical communication skills in English. Perhaps you speak English as an additional language, or perhaps you’re a novice in your profession. The Words & Work English podcast is different from other language-focused podcasts, as the insight and advice comes directly from a fellow healthcare professional -- a native English speaker who understands how important clinical communication is and who loves teaching. In this weekly podcast I share helpful information, tips, tricks, and communication strategies gained from 18 years working as a US physical therapist and from a lifetime as a language enthusiast. I am currently a full-time P.T. and a part-time English tutor online. I have a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science in Communication. As you know, healthcare is a high-stakes environment with many communication challenges. Effective communication is a prerequisite to providing good patient care, as well as creating and maintaining productive relationships with coworkers and caregivers.
