You may have heard that you need systems in place for your business, but what does that even mean? On today’s Create Your Path podcast, I have my friend and systems expert, Diane Lam, break it all down. She defines what a system truly is, how to start if you’re a solopreneur, what is important to focus on first as your build out your system, and how not one system fits all.

I met Diane through a marketing group coaching program that we’re both part of, and we instantly clicked. I always find it fascinating when an expert in the field can break down a buzzword and make it simple.

If you’d like to learn more about Diane and/or are looking to start putting systems in place for your business, definitely give her a follow and check her out!

Can we get really deep for a moment?

Trusting yourself…fully. Are you there yet? Are you not?

I realize, that for me, the ability to start trusting myself had to start with the realization that I had the biggest difficulty doing so because it wasn’t exemplified to me.

”Don’t do that, do this.” “What you’re going to do is…” “bahala ka” (Tagalog for “you take care of it” but in a negative connotation) followed by heated conversations, a series of family blow-ups, unresolved issues rearing their ugly head time and time again.

Yeahhhhh….

Not to bring the vibes down but in order to start creating your path, you have to trust yourself, feel GOOD about that, and you have to know WHY you’re on that path in the first place.

Maybe you can relate to me and maybe we share some analysis paralysis, healing of old wounds, trying our best to find our place in the world kinda vibes….

Maybe following your own path has been the most liberating, scary, exciting and peaceful time of your life! If so, we’re sooooo on the same boat!

New podcast alert!

Man oh man, after taking a bit of a podcast hiatus, I am back! And opening up the podcast more to all creatives who feel a certain calling to do something with their passion but not really sure how to go about it.

In this first episode, I want to talk about releasing the pressure. I think we can get so stuck in this box and timeline of who we need to be and when we need to accomplish things, and life never works out that way, right? So rather than force ourselves to mold into this "ideal" that we've created in our heads....why not release the pressure and play a bit more with what's happening around us so we can fully experience the good, the bad, and all the in between?

Create Your Path is about trusting that inner voice of yours and finding YOUR way on this crazy journey of self-discovery and perhaps, entrepreneurship.

It's the first episode, y'all. So bear with me. More strategy talks, more inspiration and motivation, more guest experts in business, all to come soon!

Thanks for listening!-Tina

PS Helping chocolatiers and creatives with strategy is my superpower. In this podcast episode, I want to talk about trusting your own process, regardless of what anyone else thinks or says, if it seems like things aren't working out, and keeping to what genuinely lights you up.

As I find myself in a bit of a transition phase myself, I recorded this when I was not in the best spirits because oftentimes the discovery process and the creative process has its fair share of frustration and what feels like a bajillion thoughts to sort through.

Alas! One step at a time.

May this podcast give you some encouragement if you're currently going through it!

What makes for a successful business? A phenomenal product, excellent customer relationships, a genuine enjoyment of what you are doing, and an understanding of what people are asking for, therefore offering a solution to their problems.

In this I Heart Chocolate Podcast episode, I am joined by Chef James Parsons, the creator of SoSaSe Chocolat. Chef James has been in the industry since the young age of 16, and today, shares his wealth of knowledge through weekly Chocy Chats (which he
hosts on Fridays through his Instagram) https://www.instagram.com/sosase_chocolat/, online courses, 1:1 hands on classes, and of course, his beautiful line of cocoa butter colors "i shud koko".

The secret to his success is found not only in his viewpoint towards chocolate and business, but in what he believes in general about life and having fun. It was a pleasure to hear his side of how things came together.

his quick podcast episode was inspired by the podcast episode between Jay Shetty and James Corden, in which James talked about letting go of something familiar to be open for something new...wherever life's next great adventure takes him....

I thought it was a very powerful message that can be applied to any entrepreneur, or any person really who is just kind of going through life and finding themselves resisting or feeling scared of what's to come next.

A huge part of everything I ever teach or talk about starts with mindset and self-belief. It is my sincerest hope that this one inspires you.

What is it like running a chocolate business with your spouse? In this week's I Heart Chocolate Podcast, I (Tina) and Bruno share our experience. How we ended up working together, the challenges we faced, the truth of growing and running two businesses at once in the face of all life's challenges, and the ultimate decision to put an indefinite pause on the chocolate side.

I do believe that everything happens for a reason and if you cannot accept or understand that and constantly resist or try to control things to YOUR exact plans, you'll quickly find yourself disappointed.

In hindsight, there were so many learning lessons for us...not just on the business side or what I would want for the business in the future, but even for us as a couple. Note to self: you'll need to have a strong sense of self and good communication and understanding of each other's needs and wants if you intend on keeping your relationship intact whilst working together. Ultimately, you have to be on the same page. And as you'll learn in this candid conversation, behind the scenes, Bruno and I were not always on the same track.

This conversation is raw and real, and as Bruno says, we "don't bullshit." To update: as a whole, as individuals, as a family, as work life balance, and our own goals, we are in a much better place. We're both free to pursue what we enjoy pursuing most, and we have freedom from life's previous stressors.

I hope you enjoy :)

In today's I Heart Chocolate Podcast, I am offering you some solid advice on how you can start to DECIDE what it is that needs to be your TOP priority in your business, so you can stop running around your shop like a mad-man/woman and really start to put your energy + time towards what will really move your business forward.

Over the years, I've learned that business growth is just as much about personal growth and making sure to take the time for my personal life. I know that seems
counterintuitive because business can be so all-consuming, but I came to a
stark realization that the more I "put off" important activities,
people, things in my personal life, the more my business suffered. In this I Heart Chocolate Podcast, I talk about how the personal side of life is so tied into business success, AND another golden nugget of a secret: if you truly want to succeed, you cannot do it alone.

Analysis paralysis is such a common thing for creatives and chocolatiers. That initial decision to get over the "fear hump" is a big one, but once you do, the chocolate journey becomes so much easier. Entrepreneurship, as a whole, becomes so much easier.

That's the experience I've had anyways.

In this "I Heart Chocolate Podcast," I'm reinforcing a very important nugget of wisdom I've learned and was reminded of recently that when we are working towards our goals, there is an undeniable truth that occurs as a result: the deeper you go, the clearer it gets. I share how I've turned around some rather negative assumptions about my journey and why I'm so happy I never stopped going.

Something I've learned over the last 15+ years of doing chocolate, is that similar to chocolate, business can have an exponential curve. As someone who really felt like the BUSINESS side of things was always very daunting, I realized that there is so much to be said by focusing on ONE key thing at a time.

I see chocolatiers all the time struggling in their businesses because they cannot see or refuse to spend the time to focus on the ONE key thing that will actually keep their business afloat: in this example, sales.

By honing in on one key thing at a time, we become laser-focused in our business, and with consistency, the payoff can be tremendous.

In this week's "I Heart Chocolate Podcast", I'm talking product suite, and why planning it out with intention is so important for your business.

Many chocolatiers assume that opening up a chocolate business simply means creating chocolates, BUT what most fail to realize is that by having an actual strategy and thought process behind the very products they make, they can actually make their lives a lot easier, save money, save energy, and increase their brand visibility right from the start.

This episode is just a teaser of what to expect in the upcoming masterclass: Optimized Product Suite. https://www.codinhachocolatementorship.com/offers/PDf2Zhzo/checkout

In this very raw podcast, I'm sharing some insights I gained from watching Season 2 of The Bear, AND some personal things I've realized most certainly this year.

Going after what you want in life is hard enough; it's harder when you don't have the full support that you need and want, especially when it's lacking from the people who are literally family.

I share why I decided to distance myself in some of my own personal relationships, and what I've learned by witnessing other hugely successful entrepreneurs do the same.

This is, in no way, a diss to blood. It's the complicated relationship dynamic and mental health issues that arise when your own personal dreams don't make sense for those close to you. Which is why, again, I made the decision to just let them go.

Always for the pursuit of truth and my best self. I hope this encourages you to do the same.

*Note: for Part 1: https://youtu.be/MEoa4thGo0A

In the second part of this 2-part series, I dive into how I learned the business side of chocolate, which then enabled me to actually have a profitable and successful business.

Learning the business side of things can often times feel
somewhat vague or confusing, and for the longest time, I would say it was my
hugest struggle.

By committing myself to the process, investing in
a business mentor, and really staying consistent to the process, I was able to
truly transform my chocolate passion into my full-time living. In this video, I
share what I learned and how it led up to all of that.

In this week's "I Heart Chocolate Podcast", we're talking objections...SPECIFICALLY the top 3 objections I see chocolatiers telling themselves over and over as to why they CANNOT get ahead: lack of time, lack of money, lack of self-belief.

Funny enough, I have gone through all three of these in my career, and full disclosure: you might get triggered by what this podcast has to say and you might even "hate" me for saying it.

But as always, I always believe everything starts with the mind and if we can get the mindset right and tuned in to what we TRULY and REALLY WANT for ourselves...then the objections are no longer objections.

If you are getting in your own way, this podcast is for you.

In this week's I Heart Chocolate Podcast episode, I'm talking about the seasons of entrepreneurship. I think it's so common as business owners to constantly want success and we constantly add on more and more to our plate for continued growth...BUT I do believe it's important to recognize that there are SEASONS to business, just as there are to life.

I share the current season I'm in (It's SLOW lol), and how I've been using this time to spring back not just recharged, but renewed.

Hey chocolate friends!

I just got back from a girls' trip to NY. Went back to my roots of where the chocolate career all started, and had A LOT of fun soaking up all the art and the culture over there.

In this very raw (and video recorded podcast- head over to the Youtube Channel if you prefer--> "Codinha Chocolate), I talk about the importance of filling up your cup with all the other things in order to be your best CEO self.

This trip was much needed and highly satisfying. I feel like any time you get a chance to get back to where you started and see the progression since, it's eye-opening and humbling.

Anyways, enjoy the podcast!

PS if you do watch the video version, what are we thinking? Yes to more video podcasts? Let me know!

True or false? All art is unoriginal.

In today's podcast, I wanted to dive into the art of authenticity. Are we all just copying each other's work? Is that an actual problem to be concerned about? Does it bother you as a chocolatier or you just think everything is "fair game" in the game of art and chocolate?

Interesting hot topic. I've got an opinion on it, even referencing a most recent "copycat" trend that happened. And it happened BIG time.

Alrighto, for all the tea, tune into today's episode!

In this week's podcast, I dive into the reality of balancing motherhood with being a CEO of a very business. While I wouldn't trade anything for the world, I also don't want social media or the glamorized "mom boss" life to fool anyone.

Codinha Chocolate (its two businesses) came from a lot of work, sacrifice, dedication, and honestly, has been several huge learning lessons. And I think that as a woman, we sometimes take on everything put on us sometimes because of societal expectation or because we feel we simply have to.

In this podcast, I salute you, moms. It has not been an easy road at all, and I just wanted to share that it's okay for you to hang up your CEO pants from time to time to simply just take care of you.

Happy belated Mother's Day <3

We are back, y'all! Yahoo!!

WHAT A WEEKEND last weekend! Had to come back and do a podcast episode with a very special guest, my hubby, my partner, my Portuguese stud, Bruno Codinha!! YAYYYYY.

Anyways, we wanted to share a bit about our experience for our first ever Chocolate Salon. First time as exhibitors anyways (both of us have attended previous salons in general). And have to say, coming back from this weekend just was the kind of positive, awesome experience that just reaffirms everything that we do.

And extra cherry on top? We were featured/pictured in the SF Chronicle Sunday morning. Not too shabby!

So much fun. If ever you are a chocolate lover, go check out the Chocolate Salon. There will be another one happening in LA later this year as well as another one for San Francisco! :) We plan to be there!!

Oh, this one is a bit of a tiffy, folks. It is a personal pet peeve of mine to see false information or incomplete information being shared out there. As a chocolatier who massively respects this industry, and with the rise of social media in general, I have witnessed countless times chocolate knowledge being dropped that isn't 100% accurate. Recipes being shared that aren't balanced (VERY common!). And it disturbs me.

In this " I Heart Chocolate Podcast" episode, I speak on why FREE is not necessarily better when it comes to learning chocolate and how it could effect your future (in a not so great way). Some tough love in this one, but always honest.

What is it really like running Codinha Chocolate, you may wonder? In this podcast episode, I let you in on what it's like. Directly from my eyes and how it runs and why it is set up exactly how it is. For those looking to open up shop, hope you take away the biggest lesson from this: You can do and create anything you want. Question is: What are you doing to get there?

Patience and Ambition. Two things that don't seem to go hand-in-hand, but in hindsight, truthfully, marry so well together.

If you are HUNGRY for success, but you lack patience....you're in for a rude awakening. If you have tenacity to go after what you want and invest in yourself to get yourself ahead in the game, you're gonna go further, faster for sure....but guess what, patience still comes into play.

I emphasize the importance of patience in this episode, because well, I had to be it. I needed to learn it. I realized its value over the last 14 years. And the pay-off is tremendous.

Curious about whether culinary school is necessary to learn chocolate? Are you debating about the pros and cons of making that huge investment (especially if you live in the US, it is a massive investment). In this "I Heart Chocolate Podcast", I break down exactly what I learned about chocolate through school, and where it fell short.

With everything going on in the world today, just had to come on real quick and speak out about how lucky we are for the simple joys of being able to do what we love, have a home to return to, and family to hold.

Count your blessings my friends. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the violence currently going on in the Ukraine. May they get to safety and peace come soon.

Contrary to popular belief, I am all about the "slow and steady" growth path. There's a huge benefit to organic, steady growth versus boom boom kachoo explosion of massive success all in one shot.

Do you ever think to yourself, you can't wait to be successful? Follow-up question: Are you prepared for that success?

Sharing my personal experience with this topic as well as what I've seen working for another chef who dealt with a massive growth business-wise that his business wasn't prepared to handle, and the consequences of it.

That is the tea in today's "I Heart Chocolate Podcast."

Have you ever heard the expression, "You're not a real chef til you've cried in the walk-in?" Ugh. When I polled on Instagram about this topic, there were many of you who resonated. I wanted to dive deeper into why this happens and how it is so NOT okay.

But by going through this myself, it has helped shape what I intend to do with my company and for chocolatiers all around.

You read that title right, my friend. We are all scared. Can't escape it. It's part of life. BUT we all also have a choice on how to deal with that. The chocolate journey can be sooooo beautiful....so if you're feeling freaked out, listen to this episode. It is a good one!

Hey chocolate friends, it finally happened. We received our very first unpleasant customer experience message, and honestly, it sucked. BUT in true Codinha fashion, we took this as a learning lesson and I wanted to share how we were able to rectify the situation and make amends with our customer so we avoided the worst outcome possible---negative reviews, public bashing, etc.

It's impromptu, and pardon the tone (also under the weather), but it's real. We're talking how I dealt with our first unhappy customer in today's I Heart Chocolate Podcast.

Hey chocolate friends, this is a very special podcast episode with my good friend and former mentee, Camilla Groen of Groen & Co. Chocolates. She and I discuss the reality of being a small business and how we went about figuring out our packaging, as well as share some of the lessons we've learned through our mistakes.

If you're new to choc biz, packaging and fulfillment is essential especially as an e-commerce store. Lots of good info in this one. Hope you enjoy :)

"How much?" Have you ever been asked this through the DM, at a Pop-up, in person? No conversation, no "how are you", nada...just a straight up price-ask?

The cold harsh truth is that not every single person out there is going to be YOUR customer. Not every single person is going to understand how amazing your product is. BUT there are some ways to prevent this and to deal with it when it happens.

I discuss that in today's I Heart Chocolate Podcast.

PS if you have been enjoying the content, please leave me a review! It means the world to help spread the chocolate happiness :)

Hey chocolatiers, in today's "I Heart Chocolate" Podcast, just a gentle reminder that it is okay to be exactly as you are. In fact, it opens doors. Doors that may benefit you in chocolate. Doors that may lead to something else huge. Doors that let you shine your light exactly as you are.

It's so easy to get caught up in the hype of appearances or to people-please to keep the peace. I argue that owning your truth is the kindest thing you can do for yourself, not just as a chocolatier, but as a person.

It's a deep one today but it's a much needed reminder :)

Hey chocolate friend, the new year is off to a great start. And it occurred to me that while there's a bunch of new chocolate faces out there in the chocolate world, there's also a lot who are not committing. They're what I refer to as the "wanna-be" chocolatiers-those who consume content and have wishful thinking but aren't actually doing anything to move the needle forward. In this podcast episode, I hope it lights a fire within you to finally realize that the time to start is now. The time to step into this version of yourself that you can't even imagine how awesome and exciting and just dang bad-ass is, until you try and put in the time.
