[8] And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods. [13] But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them. [7] Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel, [8] And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes; [9] But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back: [10] Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone. [11] Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the Lord hath spoken it. [12] Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die. [13] And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam. [14] Moreover the Lord shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.

And the man of God besought the Lord, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before. Note: Jesus came to reveal the Father’s love to a world that knew Him not. As His children, we are called to be representatives of Christ, doing the same work He did in revealing the true character of God’s tender, pitying love for fallen human beings.
As representatives of the Lord Jesus, what picture should we give of life in God’s service? Psalms 5:11 1 Peter 1:8.
Note: Christians, who gather up gloom and sadness to their souls, murmuring and complaining, are giving others a false representation of God and the Christian life. They give the impression that God is not pleased to have His people happy, and thus they bear false witness concerning God.
What is the work of Satan in regard to the character of God? John 8:44.
Note: It is Satan’s studied purpose to misrepresent the character of God as One who lacks compassion and pity. He loves to lead men and women to mistrust God and look upon Him as harsh and unforgiving. Satan tries to make the Christian life appear to be one of gloom, difficulty and toil. If this is the attitude we project to others, we are supporting Satan’s misrepresentations.

Note: It is not wise, nor beneficial to gather to mind all the unpleasant recollections of the past- its sins and disappointments- to talk of them and mourn over them until life is filled with gloom and discouragement. Thank God for the bright pictures of His care and solicitude for you. Group together the blessed assurance of His love and look upon them often.
Is there any logical reason for us to doubt the Father’s love? Romans 8:31, 32

Note: When Satan attempts to discourage you, breathe not a word of doubt or darkness. Every expression of doubt strengthens Satan’s temptation and separates you from the angels of God assigned to minister to you. If you talk out your gloomy feelings, every word expressed will not only react upon yourself, but will act as seed to germinate and bear fruits in our lives. When you take the hand of a friend, let praise to God be on your lips and joy be in your heart. Angels are listening to hear what report you give to the world regarding your heavenly Master.
Can we avoid influencing others whether for good or evil? Romans 14:7
Note: By our unconscious influence others may be encouraged and strengthened or they may be discouraged and repelled from Jesus and His truth.
What was Jesus’ personality like when He was on earth? Isaiah 53:3, 4
Note: It is often said that Jesus wept but was never known to smile. He is spoken of as a “man of sorrows and acquainted with grief”. And this is true, for He opened His heart to all of human woe. But though His life was shadowed with care and pain and self-denial, He was neither gloomy nor discouraged. His face did not wear an expression of grief or dissatisfaction, but always showed peaceful serenity. Wherever He went, He carried with Him rest and peace, joy and gladness.
If we are like Jesus, will our lives mirror His in this regard? Isaiah 26:3 Psalms 119:165
Note: The religion of Jesus gives peace like a river. It does not quench the light of joy; it does not restrain cheerfulness nor cloud the sunny, smiling face. Christ came not to be ministered to, but to minister in joy; and when His love reigns in the heart, we shall be like Him.

What problem did certain early followers of Jesus experience shortly after the resurrection? Matthew 28:16, 17. Note: Many Christians, especially those who are new in following Christ, are at times troubled by doubts. There is much in the Bible that they cannot explain or even understand, and Satan seizes on these questions to try to shake their faith in God and His Word.
In this life, will we ever have all possibility for doubt removed? Hebrews 11:6.
Note: God never asks us to believe without giving us sufficient evidence on which to base our faith. However, all possibility of doubt will never be removed. Our faith must rest on evidence, not demonstrated fact, for then it would no longer be faith. Those who want to doubt will always find reasons to do so. Those who want to believe will always have ample evidence for their faith.
Can our finite minds ever fully comprehend God? Job 11:7, 8 Romans 11:33
Note: God will forever remain clothed in mystery even to the most educated mind and keenest intellect.
Can we know enough about God, however, to trust Him? Deuteronomy 29:29 Psalms 97:2
Can we understand all there is to know about the Bible- God’s word? 2 Peter 3:16
Note: Like its author, God’s Word presents mysteries that human beings will never fully comprehend. But this is no reason to doubt. We deal with many things in the natural world that we cannot explain, yet, we believe and benefit from them. Should we be surprised, then, to find mysteries we cannot explain in spiritual things? God has given us sufficient evidence of the divine nature of the Bible for us to believe if we choose to do so.
What dual aspect does scripture present? 2 Peter 1:19-21
Note: Christ is the living Word; the Bible is His written Word. Like Him, it is a mysterious blend of the divine and the human that man’s mind cannot explain nor comprehend. The very difficulties in Scripture that skeptics point to as reasons for disbelief are in fact a strong evidence for its divine inspiration. If it were a merely human document, it would contain nothing but that which man could easily understand. The very grandeur and majesty of the Bible’s themes should inspire faith in it as God’s Word to us.
If Scripture is so filled with mysteries beyond man’s understanding, can we hope to hear God speaking to us in it? Psalms 119:105 Psalms 119:130
Note: The Bible, though inspired by the divine mind of God, unfolds truth with a simplicity that is perfectly adapted to the needs and longings of the human heart. It charms and astonishes the most intellectual and cultivated, while at the same time it opens the way of salvation to the humble and unlearned. The Bible presents the plan of salvation so clearly that every soul may plainly see the way to God.
What is one of the chief causes of doubt in the human heart? Obadiah 3

Note: If we would avoid having the Bible clouded to our understanding so that its plainest truth become impossible to comprehend, we must have the faith and simplicity of a little child, ready to learn, asking for the aid of the Holy Spirit and willing to follow that what we discover to be God’s will. When God’s Word is opened without reverence or prayer, when the thoughts and affections are not fixed upon God or in harmony with Him, the mind is confused with doubt and unbelief is actually strengthened through study of the Word. With distorted vision, such individuals will see many causes for doubt and unbelief in matters that are really plain and simple.

Why is prayer important to the healthy Christian life? 1 Peter 3:12
What is prayer? Psalms 5:1, 3 Psalms 61:1-3. Note: Prayer is opening our heart to God as we would to a friend. This is not necessary, of course, to make known to God what we are, but such communion enables us to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us; It brings us up to Him.
What request did the disciples make of Jesus? Luke 11:1.
What was Jesus’ response to this request? Luke 11:2-4. Note: He directed them to present their daily needs before God in prayer and to cast all their care upon Him. The assurance He gave them that God would here their prayers is our assurance as well.
What additional counsel regarding prayer did Jesus give? Matthew 6:5,6. What about the wording we use in our prayers? Matthew 6:7,8. What example did Jesus give us regarding the importance of prayer? Luke 6:12 Mark 6:46 Luke 5:16. Is God really willing to listen to our prayers? Job 22:27 Psalms 34:15. Note: Our Heavenly Father waits to bestow upon us the fullness of His blessings. What a wonder that we pray so little! God is ready and willing to hear the sincere prayer of His humblest child, yet we are so often reluctant to make our wants and needs known to Him. The angels love to bow before Him; they regard communion with Him as their highest joy. And yet we on earth seem satisfied to walk without the light of His spirit or the companionship of His presence. What must the angels think when we pray so little and have such little faith in spite of the fact that God’s heart yearns to give us more than we can ask or think. How anxious is God to answer our prayers with those things that are good for us? Matthew 7:7-11. Romans 8:32
What effect does prayer have on temptation? Mark 14:38. Note: The darkness of the evil one encloses those who neglect to pray. The whispered temptations of Satan entice them to sin and it is all because they do not make us of the privilege of prayer.
What are some conditions to having God hear and answer our prayers? Matthew 5:6, Matthew 7:7, Proverbs 15:29, Proverbs 28:9, Psalms 66:18, Mark 11:24, Matthew 6:12, Philippians 4:6, Colossians 4:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:17. As important as prayer is, should we withdraw from the world to spend all our time in prayer? John 17:15. What are we to think when it appears that our prayers have not been answered? James 4:3 Romans 8:26
Can we weary God with our prayers? James 5:11 1 Peter 5:7 Note: keep all your wants, your joys, your sorrows before God. You cannot burden or weary Him. He who has all your hairs numbered is not indifferent to your needs.
In whose name should we pray and what does this mean? John 16:23, John 15:16. Note: To pray in the name of Jesus means more than a mere mention of His name at the beginning and end of our prayers. It means to pray in the mind and spirit of Jesus, believing His promises, relying upon His grace and working His works.

Note: God cares for and sustains everything He has created. Wherever we are, whatever we do, we are tenderly watched by a loving heavenly Father. When we lie down, when we rise up, when we work, when we eat, God’s care is over us. Not a tear is shed that He does not notice; not a smile given that He does not mark. If we truly believe this, all undue anxiety would be banished. Our lives would not be filled with disappointment- for we would leave everything, large or small, in God’s hands. We would enjoy a peace of mind that few understand.

Note: If our hearts and minds are open to understand them, we may see precious lessons of God’s love and care through the circumstances of our daily lives and surroundings.

How intense should be our study of God’s word for us? John 6:53, 52, 63 Note: as our physical bodies are strengthened by the food we eat, so our spiritual lives depend on filling our hearts and minds with the word of God.
What will a sincere study of God’s Word do for us? Romans 10:17
Note: As we dwell upon the character of our Redeemer- given to us in the Word of God- our faith and love will grow stronger, our prayers will become more acceptable because they will be mixed more and more with faith. We will have a more constant confidence in Jesus as we daily experience His power to save us from sin. The more we see Jesus in the Bible, the more we will want to talk of Him to others.
What will the study of the Scriptures do for our minds? Psalms 119:130
Note: Nothing will strengthen the intellect more than the earnest study of the Word of God. Note: The person who is truly a disciple of Jesus will see a change taking place in his life. Old ways of living are disappearing; the new is taking its place.
Does this mean that a genuine Christian will never sin, but keep all of God’s commandments perfectly? 1 John 2:1 Note: Even committed, genius Christians will find that temptation continues to trip them into sin at times. God’s will for us is that we never sin. But if we do, Jesus will forgive us if we ask Him to. We don’t have to be perfectly sinless to be a true follower of Lord Jesus.

Note: it is true that we are not able to change our own heart or bring it into harmony with God. It is also true that we must not trust to good works to save us from our sins. He willed to walk, and he did walk. As he acted on the word of Christ, God gave the power. He was made whole. To what greater blessing did Jesus hope to direct the attention of those whom He healed of disease? Matthew 9:5, 6 Note: Physical healing was designed to draw the sufferers’ attention to the spiritual healing Jesus provides.

If we are to find God and His peace for our sin-stained souls, how intense must be our search for Him? He invites us to give ourselves to Him so that He can make this amazing transformation possible. But the choice is ours. In the Old Testament sacrificial ritual what was the sinner to do when he brought a sacrifice for his sin? Leviticus 5:5, 6. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Note. It is our acknowledgement that we recognize the hideousness of our sin and that we need and desire the forgiveness that God has already offered and longs to give us.

But those sins or faults which have injured or given offense to a friend or neighbor should be freely confessed to that individual as well as to God. Note: In spite of the many evidences of God's love for us that we can see in the things of nature and understand by the tenderest and closest earthly relationships, all these represent His love only imperfectly. Jesus came to live among us in order to reveal to us the infinite love of God in its fullest manifestation. All that we need to know, or can know, about God is seen in the life of his Son, Jesus Christ. How did Jesus describe his work here on earth - the work that was to demonstrate to men what God is like?
(Luke 4:18). What do we see of the love of God in the earthly life of Jesus?

Note: Whole villages were left without a moan of sickness anywhere in them, for he had passed through and healed all the sick. Love, mercy, and compassion were revealed in every action of his life. His heart went out in sympathy to the children of men.

Note: The poorest and humblest of men were not afraid to approach him. Even little children were attracted to him. They loved to climb upon his knees and gaze into his face filled with love.

Note: Jesus did not censure human weakness. He did not treat sin lightly, nor excuse it, but he was always quick to forgive and encourage a sensitive, sin-stricken soul. Everyone was precious in his sight, and in all men he saw fallen souls whom it was his mission to save.

Note: Jesus spoke the truth, but always in love. He denounced hypocrisy, unbelief, and sin, but tears were in his his voice as he uttered his scathing rebukes. He wept over Jerusalem, the people he loved, although they had refused to receive him. They rejected him, but he regarded them with pitying tenderness. Such is the character of Jesus as revealed in his life here on earth. This is also the character of God. What is the greatest evidence of God's love as revealed in the life of Jesus?

Note: In other words God loves us so much, that he even loves Jesus more for giving his life to redeem us. By becoming our substitute and dying for us on the cross, Jesus endeared himself to his father because of the intense love God has for fallen men and women. How do we know that the death of Jesus was not made in order to create a love for us in the father's heart - to make him willing to save us?
