Freedom of Food Or "How I took control of my life." How many of us can say that we do not rely on vast networks, many cavernous facilities, and endless hands merely to eat?
Very few of us, indeed.
What I’ve been working on for the last 4 years- 6 days a week- is the solution to this most troublesome reality; we do not really control where our food comes from and how it gets to our plates. Nor could we easily or completely do this if we wanted to.
Yet did you know- that right now- there exists all of the necessary parts and pieces to assemble a device that will forever change the world?
From just a few stores, found across the internet, you can build and operate the greatest invention of our generation.
I call it the FarmTower Renegade.
It’s a biological computer. It uses living bacteria cultures to produce the most effective fertilizer ever to grow more nutritious food. And it can do it every day of the year.
No more questionable methods, processing, or any other shady practices that lower quality just to maximize profits. This is our food, we’re talking about, but it might as well be plastic widgets as far as some are concerned...
Now, like I said, it’s really a computer. So you can do a bunch of cool stuff with it. And I’m discovering more every day- but I’ll get to that another time.
Today is what I want to focus on. Today, you and I can harness some of the most advanced technology on Earth: the humble bacteria cell. Molecule-by-molecule, living cultures of nitrifying bacteria can transform fish waste into a fertilizer so amazing, it seems to work like “magic.
This fertilizer is so magical because it’s more bioavailable than anything else you can buy.
I call this quality “hyperavailability.
The fertilizer molecules are so ideally shaped that they require less effort to pass through the cell membrane of root cells.
That’s getting into some deep science, which I’ll break down later. But for now, I want to focus on what this means for you and I- today.
Today, we can control where are our food comes from and its quality. And that- is something we can celebrate.

Compromising to Eat Or "How I drew a line in the sand." Some of the greatest inventions in history have been built in the same place the first FarmTower was built: a garage. Back at my parent’s house, with my most lovely fiancé Anna Frient, we had come onto troubled times. Both she and I found ourselves with a lack of employment within the same week, then ALL of my tires were slashed by a local punk.
Deflated and unable to get a job that satisfied and aided in my professional development I founded FarmTower Co- simply to survive. People were still asking me about aquaponics services, and I had designs I was sketching, so I took some odd jobs. Next, I sold my car to pay for some marketing material and very basic legal services.
Though I had started FTC with a nextgen indoor farming system designed, I was not able to build the system I wanted- instead I had to build what people would pay me for,what they thought they needed. Never again. Never again will I compromise the performance of a FarmTower solely for aesthetic reasons.
This is about food- everything else is secondary.
Now, after making less than minimum wage for 4 years while working 60 hours a week, I finally get to build the system that I think is best. Yet, what I’ve learned since founding FTC in April 2013, is how to balance perfection and costs. And since food is so unbelievably cheap in the US, growing it indoors seems unprofitable.
Unless…
Unless you figure how to grow plants faster, with as little lighting a possible, and be able to grow valuable crops as densely as possible.
Basically, how to maximize the savings/square foot, or ultimately how to payback a system as quickly as possible in savings.
Theses are the key metrics an indoor farm must be measured by. These are the thoughts that have driven my work for the last year with FTC. And these figures are what distinguish a FarmTower from all the rest.
