Resiliency looks different to everyone and manifests differently in all of us. We often focus on physical, emotional, & social areas but often neglect the spiritual. People try to have a cookie-cutter approach and that doesn’t work on individuals with diverse perspectives. Neglecting any pillar can cause the foundation to come crashing down. We’ll explore what spiritual resilience looks like in our guests who are first responders, military, pastors, athletes, and many, many more. We will tackle the difficult questions and better define what spiritual resiliency can look like in our lives. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wartime-leadership/support

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of divorced, but not denied, dad Dwight Scott! Dwight is a retired US Air Force Security Forces member AND a former teamie of mine when we served as Military Training Instructors together. Dwight retired from the military to focus on his growing family and to allow the dust of the battle rhythm to settle, only to find himself struggling alongside his wife. Separated and living apart, Dwight was taken to court for child support, unknowingly having to represent himself against a well-educated attorney his estranged wife had hired. The attorney questioned his character, the quality of service to our country and his role as a father. Life became overly complicated quickly, but foundational things remained constant… Dwight’s dedication to God and God’s love for Dwight.
Always focused on personally developing those around him, Dwight put pen to paper to write some of the most amazing, heartfelt words I have ever read. In his book The Armed Forces Devotional Guide to a Fulfilling Career Dwight wrote: “A military career is about sacrificing and protecting the freedom and liberties of those around you. How can you continue the drive to accomplish the mission while having an internal force that can prevent burnout? The answer is this: by renewing your spirit and allowing God's power in all aspects of your life. Many military members understand how to improve their physical fitness or gain education through classes, but how do we gain spiritual fitness...The uniform we wear is indeed the fabric of our nation; however, we neglect the stitching that holds it all together--our heavenly Father.” Dwight is turning his pain into God’s glory by writing a currently untitled devotional for divorcees...till then you can find his current books at the links provided below:

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of “We Don’t Want You, Uncle Sam” author Matthew Weiss!! Matthew went from Defense Contractor to an Intelligence Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He holds a BS and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Most importantly, he is a member of Generation Z who cares deeply about solving this issue of service.
Recently his first book was released called “WevDon’t Want YOU, Uncle Sam” and sits as a best-seller on Amazon (www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDF7Z32K/). The all-volunteer force that has served our country well for more than 50 years is at a critical inflection point. Today, recruiters are struggling to bring enough Zoomers into the armed services. Mismatched fundamental ideals, divergent beliefs about the workplace, and other sociocultural influences have contributed to the United States military scrambling to get a grasp on how to appeal to Gen Z.
Through the use of personal life stories and macro analysis, this book explains why military recruiting in the United States is at an all-time low in order to suggest ways that American society and its leaders can fix this issue. We must rebuild the value proposition of military service by demonstrating the benefits of the world’s greatest physical social network.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Mic Drop’s Darius West! DARIUS WEST is the owner of West Creative Arts & Media, LLC and has produced, directed, and edited the music documentary, “MIC DROP: The Culture of Christian Hip Hop,” the first documentary highlighting the origins of Christian Hip Hop (CHH). This film is being distributed by Warner Music Group and is set for release this year
West is a hard-working, persistent, and deadline-oriented individual who takes great pride in his passion for writing, production, and post-production. Darius has a tremendous passion for ministry and entertainment for the millennial generation to help guide them into understanding the importance of having a vision in order to grasp the purpose and destiny for their lives. His charisma and dynamic teaching gift captivates audiences as he speaks about the relevance of the Kingdom of God for this generation. Due to the call upon his life, God has given him the ability to connect and network with key individuals in the entertainment industry to further the gospel of the Kingdom through his life of integrity and collective body of work. His company has produced the first mainstream distributed Christian Hip Hop Documentary being released in the winter of 2021 by Warner Music Group — MIC DROP: The Culture of Christian Hip Hop.
The film chronicles the history and culture of Christian Hip Hop in the 1980s/1990s and how it has affected the culture of today’s millennial Christian Hip Hop movement. The foundational word that he carries with him as a reminder of his call to the millennial generation is for them to “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come. And the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). He has lived this passage as a young man in ministry and entertainment, which placed him on some of the largest platforms in the Christian music industry as a dancer/choreographer for Carman, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond and Tonex. So, he understands what it takes to get a vision from God as a young person in order to seek after the purpose and destiny for his life.

It says Episode 77, but we wanted to get it out sooner
The Resiliency of Prison Artist Elizabeth Mikotowicz!! In her 20's she barely survived a very violent relationship; she was assaulted with a wooden dowel so bad you could see her skull. Drs gave her opioids, but when she refused, they threatened her w/child protective services because she was unknowingly pregnant and refusing medical advice. She was told she was on too small a dose to get addicted. Eventually she went to a shelter but was turned away, because her injury was too severe. She survived only because drug dealers helped her. Eventually, she went to federal prison for a nonviolent drug charge where she endured and witnessed so much institutional abuse, corruption, systemic racism, and cruelty; sometimes waking up screaming. But, she turned it all around and launched an environmentally friendly clothing brand.
She has advocated and fought for legislation to be passed for the good of the people. She's letting the world know what America "land of the free" is doing to its incarcerated population, the highest in the world. She's exposing other systemic abuse and corruption effecting Americans every day. She's sharing her healing journey and what she's learned about her own trauma and mental health.
5 years ago she was painting murals as a federal inmate, now Elizabeth has her own art shows. Prison opened her eyes to the systemic racism, cruelty, corruption, and inequality in this country. Now she exposes what she witnessed and endured to advocate legislation. Her women's clothing brand has helped her healing journey, and wants to help people from all walks of life do the same. Check out her website for her clothing: http://www.legaleriste.com/en/Elizabeth.mikotowicz

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of UPS Management Team Member Steve Turner!! Steve is COO of Beyond Resilience LLC and President of Flow Business Solution. He joined ‘Beyond Resilience’ because his values and approaches to leading employees resonate with their objectives. “We have an opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of business leadership throughout any organization.” Steve graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Business Administration. This, along with his appreciation and respect for UPS, where he was on the management team while attending college, launched his business career on a leadership journey of success.
Steve has a proven 35-year career with UPS. He provided leadership in the diverse environments of Operations, Finance & Accounting, and Technology at District, Region, and Corporate levels. This included five years in Europe at the beginning of UPS’ global expansion, where he was a Finance Director with responsibilities in 10 countries. Upon his return to the USA, he moved into UPS Information Services leading groups that designed, built, and deployed UPS financial systems for worldwide use.
His responsibilities in the countries he covered globally solidified an important fact... cultures change, hearts do not. No matter where he went, he experienced the same reality. Employees will follow those who care about them, train them for success and appreciate who they are as individuals. His dedication to the individual lives of his employees and the value they provided in his business groups yielded him success in every position he held. He demonstrated the value of leading employees as opposed to managing them. “Systems, processes, and procedures should be managed. Employees should be led.”

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: Adopted, Addicted, and Absolved The Resiliency of Dallas Goodlet. At the age of 19 years old, Dallas was told by his parents he was adopted… at age 5. He had lived his whole life as a lie, thinking he knew who his biological parents/family were. Dallas developed anger problems stemming from shame and abandonment. His whole life and identity crumbled and that led to years of reckless behavior with drugs and alcohol abuse, attempted suicides, feelings of being totally worthless. In that time, he never gave up though and developed a “never quit” resilient war cry. Unknown adoption had created a hole in his heart and soul that had to be healed.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of EveryWarrior.org’s Trey McGuire!! Prior to 2014, Trey began noticing a trend, and that trend was unacceptable to him. Serving in a local church, Trey worked hand in hand with young adults of our area. The more service members he met, the more he noticed that our Warriors were alone, isolated, and, sometimes, forgotten. That hole was something that he set out to fill.
Over the years, a tight knit group of Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines alongside Trey set their sights on filling what was missing with a makeshift extended "family". Out of that small "family" of brothers, the first Warrior's Thanksgiving Feast was born, as a way to make sure our local Warriors were not alone at Thanksgiving. From that November 2014 night, the idea of a non-profit organization was born.

Special 4th of July Edition
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of IED Survivor Shane Vincent! May 24th, 2007, former BMX Olympic superstar, Shane Vincent’s Cavalry troop was headed back from a seemingly routine mission in Iraq when his Humvee tripped a wire which was connected to a roadside improvised explosive device. The IED was built to eliminate a tank but flipped his Humvee over 100 feet into the air, flipping countless times before finally crashing into the ground. As the twisted heap of metal smoldered, Shane was thought dead with a broken neck, back, jaw, and pelvis. Placed into a medically-induced coma, Shane had no memory of the explosion. He woke several weeks later stuttering, confused, and disoriented.
This 4th of July edition finds us looking at the resilience of a true American hero as we discuss the fight and battle after “the battle”. Inspiring does NOT start to describe this conversation and the courage of Shane and his family. Shane’s fight back embodies The Warrior Ethos: “I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit!”

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Lt Col (Ret) Jason Pike!! The Army investigated him, arrested him, and tried to break him. LT. Col. Jason Pike is undoubtedly A Soldier Against All Odds. National Best Selling Author and Book. A decorated combat veteran with multiple deployments, Jason Pike shares in this inspiring memoir and through storytelling in speaking events how he survived 31 years in the service on sacred secrets. A genuine and frank account—the good, the very bad, and the very ugly—of his years in uniform.
Starting from the bottom, as a private, and working his way through the ranks, Pike tells his story with wicked whit and shows us the price he paid for his service - as well as a glimpse into the adventure of life in the Army, including 9 years of living overseas.
Diagnosed at age seven with an acute learning disability and failing first grade that year, Jason Pike was sent back to repeat it. At age nine, he was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, a crippling bone disease dissolving the bone of his knee that added to his academic challenges and a significant physical disadvantage.
With more than three decades of national guard and active service, after starting his military career at seventeen and retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was told that none of it would be possible. For that advice, there were indeed excellent grounds. His story, therefore, is one of survival, perseverance, and a refusal to quit, no matter what, a characteristic gifted to him by his father. Once he did it, everyone asked, "how the hell did you do it?" And many times, he had asked himself the same question…
In A Soldier Against All Odds, Jason Pile shows that It is possible, through determination, careful application, and bold strategy, to overcome or compensate for personal humiliation brought about primarily by his own mistakes, being haunted by investigations, academic difficulty, arrests, many ass-chewings, and physical frailty. He did pay the price for being himself. This is how he did it, but most importantly, how he survived it.
Despite these facts, Jason refuses to brag, refuses to portray any sort of pretentiousness, and refuses to call himself a hero. “The heroes are the ones, who didn’t come home,” he says. “Now, let me tell you about another time I managed not to die by doing something stupid.” Indeed, the mental image of Jason attempting to escape from a hole filled with animal feces in South Korea, his electrocution in the doorway of an airplane, running from a police helicopter after burning trash illegally, nearly breaking his legs after faulty parachute jump, and being stabbed in ROTC are just a few Pike stories that are listed in the book.
Regardless of what he has experienced for good or ill, Jason’s jovial sense of humor and desire to teach others to believe in oneself persists.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Chicago Firefighter Traci Hill. While finishing up her master’s degree in Kinesiology she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Being a self-described "health freak", this news struck her as scary. Doctors told her she would be in a wheelchair the rest of her life if she didn't take medication. The diagnosis came on the heels of having become a Chicago Firefighter. Now she felt the pressure to not only put out fires at work but also the fires raging inside her own body. She chose to figure out how to heal myself through food, exercise and eventually dealing with the emotions that were driving so many problems within. She learned that emotions create blockages in the body on a subtle level. The more negative emotions we stuff down, the deeper the wounds go. Now using several techniques, she has learned how to allow healing to anyone as long as they are ready. The physical body is the result of vibrations that are inherent within each of us but also picked up from people and the environment around us.Changes have led to a life of love, peace, joy and abundance. To connect with Traci head over to https://consciousevolution.coach/Connect with us at: https://linktr.ee/WartimeLeadership Be sure to like / follow / share / review us on:Instagram: Wartime_LeadershipTwitter: @WartimeLdrshpYouTube: Wartime LeadershipFacebook: Wartime LeadershipAll episodes are available at http://www.thewartimeleadershippodcast.com and http://www.wartime-leadership.com Be sure to rate and review each episode.A special thanks to the second half of the show's talent, the show's producer G. THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Second Generation Holocaust Survivor Max Friedman! This is the #1 most impactful episode thus far in 2023! This interview changed my perspective in so many ways. Max realized early in life that the world he lived in was very different from most others his age would ever experience. He was born in Sweden in 1950 to Sam and Frieda, Polish Jews who met and married there after their liberation from the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp and losing everyone they ever knew, including their first spouses and children. The family later emigrated to the U.S. in 1952, I grew up in Coney Island, across the street from the Ferris Wheel and Cyclone, but was never allowed on any rides.
As for journalism, Max attended Berkeley and got a master’s, but became impatient with journalism as a profession. He turned in his press pass while freelancing features and book reviews and sampling other writing jobs. Max worked for five years at WNET/13 (PBS) as a publicist for Bill Moyers' Journal and other programs, and then was responsible for editorial projects at the station. He spent the next 20 years learning about pharmaceuticals and writing about patients and scientists as head of communications at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Corporate life can have its ups and downs. So, when they told him to fire half his staff, he asked to be put on the list as well.
Most recently, Max spent five years researching and writing "Painful Joy", part memoir, part biography, part genealogical mystery, a story focused primarily on his parents, who somehow survived the camps and tried to restart their lives. It was a difficult and painful journey till the end. Like so many other survivors, they spoke very little about their past, though the horrors they survived were always apparent. So, he decided to finally find out more, about who they once were and what they might have become, and about their survival and its aftereffects. It turned out that their story was more complicated, more compelling, more heartwarming and heartbreaking than anyone could ever imagine. And as to the little they did tell their children, Max discovered that they were mostlyreimaginings of some complicated realities. He came to understand better the effects of their survival on his very own existence - and indeed on broaderthemes that their lives and journeys reflected.

Episode 50... wow!!!!
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Vin Infante, COVID era FDNY firefighter, mental health worker, and a master mindset coach (or I prefer mindset ‘Ninja’). His skillset helps people achieve mastery over their mindsets to live a more aligned and powerful life.
During this episode, Vin and I have an amazingly uncharacteristically hilarious conversation covering resilience in many facets of his life. From suffering crippling anxiety, panic attacks and suicidal depression while studying mental health in college to gaining experience as a licensed psychotherapist. He chose to stop practicing and instead pursue a life-long dream by becoming a firefighter with the city of New York. But, fulfillment had not been achieved and was still an arm’s length away. Vin’s Mindset Coaching business, (www.vincentinfante.life), was born. Certified under Tony Robbins’ RMT training program, Vin now has been featured in Forbes, NY Weekly, International Business Times and Entrepreneur Magazine.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Matthew Brackett with the Brackett Alliance: where leaders dare. He is a certified coach, Resilience Educator/Advisor, and Maxwell Leadership Speaker. Matthew’s diverse background includes time as a Catholic Priest (and educator) and choosing to serve full-time with the US Navy as a special Staff officer and Chaplain, even at an “older than normal” age. These experiences make him the perfect partner to help close the gap, find clarity, and balance the ebb and flow of life and business.During this episode, Matthew and I have a brilliant conversation looking at his spiritual resilience and how it manifested as a Priest serving the Catholic communities he served throughout his years of service. We discuss the impact his service with the Navy had on him and his view of assisting people through tragic events of training, war, and everyday life. We dig deep into his global, ministry and military service as a collective of unique educational experiences that have helped him start the Brackett Alliance as an executive coach. For more information or to connect with Matthew reach out via www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-brackett/This show's episode is brought to you by SuccessDraft.com where we help turn your dreams into drafted plans.Be sure to like / follow / share / review us on:Instagram: Wartime_LeadershipYouTube: Wartime LeadershipTwitter: @WLeadershopFacebook: Wartime LeadershipAll episodes are available at http://www.thewartimeleadershippodcast.com and http://www.wartime-leadership.com Be sure to rate and review each episode.A special thanks to the second half of the show's talent, the show's producer G. THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of BRiX HQ founder and CEO Julio Caceres. Julio and his team discovered that over 11 million American owned 1 to 2 rental properties, but do not have the right insurance in place and force them into 2 choices; continue on their own or they can sell the entire property and get out. But there is another way…using equity from investors to fund properties and remain as part-owners. Brix allows investors to buy and/or sell a fraction of a property. The fractionalization of real estate is a newly crafted investment opportunity for new or seasoned investors.
Julio and I sit down for an amazing conversation about his definition of spiritual resilience and how it manifests through him as he builds his company. As BRiX continues navigating the capital formation stage of business, he must maintain a high level of resilience with heavy weight upon his shoulders. This episode concludes our series called “New Year, New Money.”

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Suicide Survivor Caryn Braham. Caryn is a musician, writer, wife, mother (of 4), dog mom, cat mom, customer service professional, and low-key lover of mystery podcasts. She loves to pray, to sing, and focus on family development. Till recently she has not had a major desire to have a social media presence. Recently, she has begun dabbling with building a community and platform centered around readers. As she says, “I am always a work in progress.”During this episode, Caryn and I discuss her definition of resilience as suicide survivor. “If I’m honest, resilience, at times, looks like finding reasons not to stay socially isolated and in bed for most of the day (work, husband, kids…). Other days I could jump out of bed and wrestle a lion and someone else’s wild animal of adversity (for them). I love people, and I love to help people. So if my life could resemble more of that, I’d find that resilient Caryn more often!”Go to www.coveredbygrace.blog/home/for her daily blogs, detailed testimony and a personalized message for you. This show's episode is brought to you by SuccessDraft.com where we help turn your dreams into drafted plans.Be sure to like / follow / share / review us on:Instagram: Wartime_LeadershipYouTube: Wartime LeadershipTwitter: @WLeadershopFacebook: Wartime LeadershipAll episodes are available at http://www.thewartimeleadershippodcast.com and http://www.wartime-leadership.com Be sure to rate and review each episode.A special thanks to the second half of the show's talent, the show's producer G. THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Invasion Ministries International. During a revival service in 2017, Murad Muhammad was called out in the meeting and fell out under the power of God, and as he fell to the ground, he heard the Spirit of the Lord say “Your ministry shall be called Invasion, the Church shall be called Invade and the Youth shall be called Impact” and part of the blueprint for how the ministry would launch was downloaded! The vision came in November 2018 when he was traveling with a Man of God named Paul Aloo, Founder of GloriousDestiny.org, he said “Murad it’s time for you to go downstairs and get your vision”. Murad then went downstairs of a church prayed, worshipped, and read the story of Nehemiah, how God told Nehemiah to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. After reading these scriptures he knew the mission of what God was calling him to do, Invasion was fully birthed. Throughout time the ministry has seen over 500,000 decisions for Christ, as God began to download the vision more and more, now we have launched Invasion School of Missions, an Evangelism School to train believers on Ministerial Excellence, their authority in Christ, how to lead people to Christ, Crusades and Outreach and Christian Leadership!During this episode, I speak with 4 members of the ministry team. We discuss the events of life that brought them to the team and what they were searching for. These young missionaries travel the world learning how to share their testimony, market their story, and how to draw crowds to share with them the hope they found in Jesus.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Dr. Vic Manzo. Before going into Business and Mindset Coaching, Dr. Vic was a Chiropractor for the past 11 years and within the last 5 years, he was a specializing as a Pediatric Chiropractor. Like many others, he was taught to work hard, grind, hustle, put in the sweat equity, sacrificing time, money health and family and just continue doing, chasing dreams and eventually, one day, it will all be worth it. But, there came a moment in life where he realized this was not the only way to a desired life, nor to achieving success and so much more.
Dr. Vic was tired from being burnt out every 4-6 months. He was tired of not feeling satisfied with my success and the massive impact in his community. Dr. Vic felt unfulfilled. He decided to stop DOING and start focusing on the BEING side of things.
Dr. Vic had studied 10-12 different techniques on energy healing which taught him more than just the healing arts. It taught him spirituality, studying Universal Laws, while learning more on how quantum physics is showing how consciousness affects physical matter. He started to look into his own limiting beliefs, the power of the subconscious, how his mind was programmed from an early age and understand the power of reframing one’s mind.
Dr. Vic ended up working less, making more, leading a more fulfilled and soul-filled life. Every aspect of life transformed to higher and higher levels.
He has now learned how to construct the ‘future self’ and utilize the science and ancient wisdom to achieve that. Now Dr. Vic has taught this process to 100s of business owners in 22 different professions and 4 different countries.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Amanda Kate. The podcast goes international but this time we are located waaaayyyy down under in Melbourne, Australia. Amanda grew up in Adelaide but spent some formidable years in London where she found herself working in Event Management and Shell International Petroleum Company. The corporate game fed her need for success yet there was so much missing in her life, and marriage. She needed to prioritize motherhood and her children. During this episode, Kate and I have a rather humorous and compelling conversation about her take on spiritual resilience. She explains her journey in seeking to regain the missing portions of ‘self’ and what that looked like. Kate takes us on the journey to healing she endured from naturopaths, Chinese doctors, chiropractors and psychologists. Her emotionally abusive marriage had damaged her, and she wasn’t ready to let it beat her anymore. Additionally, Kate explains to us her training as a kinesiologist, and no, it doesn’t mean the same thing in every country…she’ll explain it better. (lol) She is a Spiritual Seeker, a truth teller, and her inner Sage has an insatiable quest for knowledge, wisdom, and new ways of becoming. THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of ‘Possibility in Action’ Coach Robert Pardi. Robert’s journey started during his childhood and the complicated relationship he had with his alcoholic father. This relationship provided him with invaluable skillsets that included resilience, determination, imagination, flexibility and insightfulness. These skillsets were blended to form his life philosophy of “Possibility in Action" and drove him to author three books.
During this episode, Robert and I discuss how he defines Spiritual Resilience in all aspects of his life. Additionally, he introduces us to the love of his life, The woman who would become his wife, Desiree. Roberts navigates us through how two different paths: his finance journey in Abu Dhabu and how Desiree excelled in the MD/Ph.D program at Mt. Sinai of New York City. These two paths eventually formed into one cohesive trail. That’s when the couple was hit with some of the most difficult news a married couple can endure. That news, and the aftereffects led Robert down a path of rediscovery and purpose.

During his illness and after his death, she was amazed by the helpful ways their coworkers, bosses, friends, and family supported them. She started calling their kind actions "acts of love." After his death, Kim, noticed that managers received no guidance when navigating cancer or death on their teams. She saw how their lack of helpful tools and guidance was costly. It negatively affected employee engagement, increased turnover rates, and lowered productivity. Kim set out to change that. Combining her personal experience with her professional knowledge/leadership skills, Kim launched 100 Acts of Love, a consultancy that provides tools to help leaders increase team productivity, trust, and engagement when cancer affects the whole team member. She is the author of 100 Acts of Love: A Girlfriend's Guide to Loving Your Friend through Cancer or Loss (https://amzn.to/3z8isxH), which is filled with effective ways to support an employee, friend, or coworker. She's an HR consultant and sought-after public speaker.
During this episode, Kim helps us define spiritual resilience as she lives it out daily in her life. We have a truly amazing and lighthearted conversation centered around cancer and the untimely death of her best friend, her husband and how she led her family through the hardest periods of their lives.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Harriet Tubman’s 3rd cousin, David Alston. David’s story reads like a true Hollywood script. David was born Edward Bright. He was adopted at 7 months only to discover, as an adult, that he was not adopted but was abducted by his “adoptive” mother. David knew he was adopted but struggled with his true identity. THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Gold Star Brother Scott Deluzio.
Scott is an Army infantry veteran who served in Afghanistan in 2010 at the same time as his younger brother, Steven…who was killed in action just miles away. Although his company hadn’t lost a single soldier in battle, upon returning home he started losing soldiers, team members, and friends to the battle within…suicide. His mission became clear. Connect Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Guardians with the sources they need to battle the war within. This is the reason, and mission, behind his podcast ‘Drive On with Scott Deluzio. Drive on is when someone is facing an impossible task in front of them and they choose to push through the suck to overcome what is in front of them. The same idea is in front of the veterans and they must drive on through the suck. Drive On talks about the challenges soldiers face when coming back home: reacquainting with loved ones, finding a purpose outside the military, and the struggles that come with it all.
During this episode, Scott walks us through his definition of Spiritual Resilience and how it helped navigate the tragic loss of his brother. From the battlefield to the journey of healing he has struggled along since returning home Scott has crafted a beautiful story about the most terrible moments of his life. His book is called ‘Surviving Son: An Afghanistan War Veteran Reveals His Nightmare of Becoming A Gold Star Brother’. Steven’s legacy lives on with the family and in the podcast Scott produces each week. The mission is to save another 1 without ceasing.

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Vietnam War veteran, my hero, my father…Howard Coy. This special Father’s Day edition is an interview 42 years in the making, literally. Growing up the son of a traveling Assembly of God minister was never easy. Many times, the food choices were limited and the pay was never very much yet the family thrived at taking care of each other. At a moment’s notice, the family would pick up and move to another location After graduating high school my dad sought stability during a time of war. He voluntarily joined the Air Force not wanting to take a chance of being drafted into another “less desirable” branch.
During this episode, Howard walks us through his definition of Spiritual Resilience and how it got him through 2 back-to-back tours in Vietnam. He navigates us through daily life while serving and the level of decision making, he was forced to make while feeding information directly to the White House. He covers a very low point that continues to affect him to this day and shaped his ‘why’ in helping veterans receive the full amount of benefits due to them. From coming home to a mostly ungrateful country to solidifying his legacy as my brother, Christian, and I both entered and serve(d) in the United States Air Force, this episode is the most meaningful one for me. Welcome home dad, welcome home.

After almost 30 years in law enforcement, Craig is transitioning into the mental health field. His passion is in dealing with first responders and their families as they navigate the stigma of mental health. Craig has been working for years to normalize things like de-stress briefings. He continues leading change as he transitions out of the first responder community, not just for the responders but the families they go home to. He discusses with us how normalizing mental health awareness is vital within the community. Craig discusses the “moment” he realized he was suffering and was not maintaining the spiritual pillar and sought fulfillment of that need.
