Hola chicos y bienvenidos a mi podcast. Si quieres leer en ingles, tengo subtitulos en the "show notes". Vamos a empezar y gracias otro vez.

Hello guys and welcome to my podcast. It has been a long time since I spoke Spanish and I want to create a safe space to learn, to make mistakes, and to feel good and comfortable. This episode of my podcast is about my adventure learning Spanish and my tips for improving your fluency. I feel very fortunate to have a system to support my goals in my life. Thank you very much to my family for helping me and supporting me. If you want to listen in Spanish and read in English, I have subtitles in the "show notes". We’re going to begin and thank you again.

When I was little, I didn’t learn Spanish much. It is my mother’s second language and because our Latino family doesn’t live near us, it was very difficult to learn Spanish. My mom was very busy, she studied in college and then for her Masters and works in school as a teacher.

In high school, they cut budgets for learning Spanish. This situation made it very difficult to learn when I was little. I even told my mom to stop teaching me Spanish, which I regret very much. Many years later, when I was fourteen, my family traveled to Ecuador to visit our family.

I was embarrassed because my whole family depended on my mother to communicate with our family. I wanted to learn Spanish and I downloaded the Duolingo app to help me. After a few days, I stopped learning because I did not feel motivated. Looking back, I am very proud to be able to speak Spanish. Although it is not perfect, I practice and try a lot to improve.

4 Mini Stories & Inspiration to JUST BOOK ITBefore I jump into the Best Just Book It stories of 2023, let’s first ask ourselves, "What is the Just Book It Lifestyle?” Hi everyone, it’s The Brooklynite Abroad & welcome to another fabulous episode of The Just Book It Podcast. If you like what you hear, be sure to follow the Just Book It Podcast for more travel-related stories, news, tips & inspiration you need to jet-set! All right, let’s get into it!

Just Book It to me is defined as spontaneously embarking on an adventure; after doing it so many times, it truly becomes a lifestyle. Instead of waiting for others to plan the trip, to say yes, to purchase the flights, Just Book It & the rest will come as it pleases. There have been way too many instances where I would hesitate to go somewhere because the timing didn’t work or the friends weren’t too interested. At the end of the day, there is a reason why YOU wanted to go on this trip so Just Book It! We have so much to see of this beautiful earth so why are we going to put matters in someone else’s hands? This is the JUST BOOK IT community. A community filled with like-minded travelers that are just looking for adventure & to experience new cultures firsthand. I have Just Book It Stories of 2023 and I am going to say them all in this podcast and rank them based on three things. How spontaneous, was the turnout of the trip & overall if it encouraged us to do more spontaneous trips?

Just Book It Story Number OneThis is the second time my boyfriend and I weren’t to the Adirondacks. We decided to hike Indian Head in the Adirondacks because we really enjoyed our last hike to this mountain range and wanted to do this bucket-list hike. This hike was on my list for over 2 years so, to say the least, I was so excited. We ended up staying in my boyfriend’s car for both nights at the rest stop in Albany which was an adventure in itself. I never did that before so cheers to new adventures and trying new things. Since we went at the end of September, the weather was nice enough to not get too cold or too hot. We brought comfortable sweatpants & a sweatshirt. We ventured off to the hike, got a late start, but saw some pretty spectacular views! I drove all the way up which was pretty exciting since it's four hours from NYC & certainly a trip for the books. Now for the rating...

  • How spontaneous: 6/10: We were wishy-washy. Some hesitation but I ultimately decided to go after like 3 hours of relaxing at the apartment.
  • The turnout of the Trip: 9/10: We got to see the fantastic Indian Head hike just before sundown! The reservations were all booked but we still managed to get in thanks to a couple who were members of the ADK mountain club~I gave a 9/10 versus a 10/10 because we started the hike a little bit late and didn't get to fully enjoy the scenery.
  • Overall if it encouraged us to make more spontaneous trips: 10/10: hard yes. It showed us that we could spontaneously embark on a 5-hour road trip even at midnight and have a great time. It also shows that even though you do need a reservation for certain places and am really fortunate that the couple was able to help us out.
  • Total Score of 25/30 = 83% on the Just Book It Meter

Just Book It Story Number TwoThis is another Adirondack adventure and actually the first one we went on which makes the spontaneity that much greater (which is the difference between the 1st story). It was for my boyfriend’s birthday and he wasn’t sure what we wanted to do to celebrate. Maybe go out, get dinner & mentioned hiking maybe twice. I really like a plan so it was killing me to now know what he wanted to do but again, he’s the birthday boy so gotta have some patience. This is kind of ironic because the podcast is called Just Book It and I like to have a plan. I'm using this podcast to help me relax a little bit when it comes to being Type-A. Eventually, he was like okay let’s just go hiking. It’d be so much fun!! He mentioned that we could have a long weekend if I took off on Monday. So there I was on a Friday afternoon taking Monday off. Thank luckily I work with the nicest people & my boss is truly amazing and was like no problem at all! In my head, I was like, “Okay are we actually doing this? Like, is this really happening?”. I packed my bag within 20 minutes and after Ino had finished work, we headed out on the road to the Adirondacks. I forgot to mention that our dates were perfectly aligned with one of the most spectacular tiny homes ever!!! I never stayed in a tiny home so cheers to new adventures. To top it off we slept in the tiny home so peacefully which resulted in starting our day later and while it was thundering out which is super dangerous, to begin with. After a long hike to the top, we finally got to see some amazing views. For us, the rain stopped and I got to fly the drone around for a bit. The hike up was very hard. The last mile I felt like when on for twenty hours, but nonetheless, the views at the top were amazing. When it was time for us to go down, it was a reminder for us not to have started so late as the sun was starting to set. Eventually, we hiked AN HOUR in the COMPLETE PITCH BLACK. I was so afraid but led us out to tell the tale. The workers at the mountain encouraged us to get headlamps and thank luckily we did. The dinner & shower after were so rewarding. A trip for the books!

  • How spontaneous: 10/10: In the span of 5 hours, we were heading up to the mountains with basically nothing planned. One of my favorite JUST BOOK IT stories! I booked the tiny home about six hours before we arrived so that's an all-time record for the latest time to book an Airbnb.
  • The turnout of the Trip: 10/10: This trip really showed that we had everything against us and still managed to have a great time. From not planning the trip at all to starting the day late, having sucky weather, not being prepared (had to buy a rain jacket and headlamps) & being told multiple times to just go home it’s not worth it, end the hike. But we ended up having an amazing story to tell! It’s worth more than a thousand words in my book so yes. I am super excited to have more trips like this in the future.
  • Overall if it encouraged us to do more spontaneous trips: 10/10: Hard yes. The more we were told no, the more we wanted to continue and finish the hike!
  • Total Score of 30/30:= 100% on the Just Book It Meter

Just Book It Story Number ThreeThis story is very interested because we had gone to Salem two weeks prior and I had this debilitating migraine and didn't end up going to Salem which prevented me from hanging out with everyone. We decided to plan a trip down the line when we had a chance. Now after going on the trip, spontaneously going to Salem AFTER Halloween is just as fun! We decided to drive around 10 pm so not as late as the last story to the Adirondacks, aha! I really had a great time exploring around and it reminded me of when I traveled to Ireland and didn’t do everything on a limb. We didn’t have too much planned and had the best time. Ino’s cousins hosted us and they live a few minutes outside of Salem which made it super easy to get around. It’s a 10-minute drive to be precise, but we decided to walk which took around 45 minutes. This getaway was a real treat and relaxation!

  • How spontaneous: 6/10: We had planned on going to Salem again since the last trip I didn’t get to go since I had a headache so it was always on our minds & leading up to it we were like, okay yeah let’s just book it!!
  • The turnout of the Trip: 10/10: We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to visit other New England cities. I love Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Rhode Island, Maine, you’re next baby!! This trip was really special because I love Halloween and going to the Salem Witch Museum was for sure a highlight. The museum was really unique in that everyone sat in the middle and while we were glancing at the dioramas, the timeline was narrated to us! Later, we went into a more museum-like area with more information on the walls. The tickets start at midnight of that day so it's perfect for the Just Book It traveler!
  • Overall if it encouraged us to do more spontaneous trips: 10/10: Most of these are getting a 10/10 because at the end of the day, traveling near or far warms my heart!
  • Total Score of 26/30:= on the Just Book It Meter

Just Book It Story Number FourThis is up there as my top JUST BOOK IT story. It's when Ino surprised me and flew to the Bahamas to see me! I had booked this trip back in December with my family & I truly had no idea that he was going to do this. He was texting me like, “you’re the Just Book It Queen right?” & I was like yes, & ye’s like “well that makes me the Just Book it King right?” In my head I was like, “what is going on here” & before I knew it, I was in Ino’s sweet arms enjoying his company! He booked his flight 2 HOURS before departing.

  • How spontaneous: 10/10: Considering he bought the flight 2 hours before departing, that’s some new level JUST BOOK IT experience.
  • The turnout of the Trip: 10/10: The whole trip was an absolute dream with him around & I loved it so much! We went during Bahamian Independence Day & the streets were filled with families & friends celebrating. The parade was magnificent with some of the most beautiful costumes I have ever seen. I love a good performance and the dancer's instrumentalists were outstanding 1000/10!!
  • Overall if it encouraged us to do more spontaneous trips: 10/10: Honestly, this is the catalyst to some of our other Just Book It Adventures because, well hear us out. Most cancellations are allowed if it is within 24 hours in advance & since it’s freshly booked, in case something goes wrong, you can always cancel and not even have to worry about flight credit. We definitely plan to have a fully spontaneous trip in the future. Only time will tell where we’ll go!
  • Total Score of 31/30: = > 100% on the Just Book It Meter

There You Have It!Do you think you have a better idea of The Just Book It lifestyle? Over here at The Brooklynite Abroad, we’ll be taking it to the next level and booking some serious spontaneous trips that’ll become great memories & stories for years to come. that Well that’s all for now, thanks for tuning in, and be sure to follow the Just Book It podcast and The Brooklynite Abroad to stay up-to-date on places to venture off to next! Hi travel besties and welcome to another episode of The Just Book It. It has been sometime since I recorded a podcast and I want to apologize but at the same time, I think it’s healthy and normal to take a step back sometimes. I left off with wanting to go on a trip to Finland and Sweden and unfortunately given everything going on in the world that seemed pretty impossible to do. I had mentioned in my podcast prior to this that this was of course first world problems but overall, it took a toll on my mental health in a way because I was just really wanted to travel somewhere and just felt like nothing was working out. As we know, life goes on right and I’m so excited to announce that I have just got back from my solo trip in Ireland and have the perfect podcast for you guys!! Yes you heard that right, I embarked on a solo trip to Ireland and I had the best time.

If you have been keeping up with my Instagram stories, you guys are real ones & if you are new- check out my Instagram stories. I have a highlight up about all the things I did in Ireland so you won’t miss a beat! On the last day of my trip I got super emotional because this trip meant so much to me. I used to be pretty codependent and to be able to do a solo trip just really proved to myself that I can do anything I set our mind to. I know that sounds super cliché but it is so true. The only thing that’s stopping us is us and when I tell you the sky is the limit the sky is the limit. I hope that this story and my journey helps you guys in a way and maybe motivates you guys to go on a solo trip.

Now I highly recommend that everyone does it at least once in their life because I know for a fact that one time or another you’ve missed out on an experience on a trip, destination, event, or whatever that you really wanted to go but didn’t because you couldn’t find people that you wanted to go with.

We all hate that feeling when we wanna do something and the people that you’re with your friends your family might not want to do the same things and it’s a sucky feeling because you’re so enthusiastic about it and you’re not getting that same energy back. Whenever this happens to you just go by yourself. This podcast is going to be my 8 tips for preparing for a seamless solo trip so without further ado, let’s get started

8 Tips For Preparing For a Seamless Solo Trip 1.Practice Going On Solo Dates So we have to start out with this one because you don’t need to spend a fortune on a trip to prove that you could do things by yourself. Start by going on solo dates. Whether that is going to the library by yourself, a city excursion or whatever you are feeling and just go for it! The best part is that if you feel uncomfortable you can always go back home! After said trip, reflect and see how you feel. Now keep in mind this isn’t for everybody so you might feel a little shy at first and say that is totally OK. After a few times you if you really don’t feel like this is for you, there’s no pressure because you saved yourself the stress and all that money!

I went on a solo date March 2021 and it was amazing. I was so nervous at first and that day just really proved that I can be alone and happy with my own company. Quick story so I went to The Edge in New York City it is beautiful sky deck that overlooks the New York City skyline and it’s absolutely breathtaking. When I went there I was so nervous because I had to ask strangers to take photos of me but once I got the hang of it and once I felt comfortable it was so much fun. I then went to El Mercado Spain in the Hudson Yards and

Hello, travel besties! I am Veronica, the woman behind The Brooklynite Abroad. If you’re new to my website, Instagram, and podcast too, welcome. I can’t wait to share my experiences, adventures, trips, and stories with you.

Today is 15th March of 2022 and it is not a regular day for me. Two years ago, I realized that I needed to return to the United States after only eight weeks during my semester abroad in Europe. Coronavirus has affected Europe and Spain specifically. It was spreading rapidly around the world and it was necessary to leave.

I liked everything about España, especially where I studied, Seville. Because I’ve experienced living in big cities, NYC, for example, I want to experience other small cities. It is the reason for studying in a small city in New York, New Paltz, and also in a small city in Andalusia, Seville.

The town of Seville was magical. Pretty with rich stories and experiences. When I realized I needed to go back to the US and I felt very sad. I planned this semester for YEARS and needed to leave. Nobody could predict coronavirus and it is a lesson that life does not stop for anyone. Events just like these, even in the worst moments. For me, I feel robbed of traveling experiences in Europe. It was a disaster to leave Spain because there were no flights and the dates to leave had changed quickly.

The transition after I arrived in the United States was difficult and especially for my mental health. At this time, I was exploring my new home, neighborhood, and other parts of Seville and two days later, I was bored in my room in New York for four months.

Hi travel besties and welcome to another episode of The Just Book It Podcast. Today we are diving headfirst and talking about how to cancel a flight without losing any money! This is one of those episodes that listening now doesn’t apply to your life but it’s going to save you down the line. You are not going to want to miss my 5 lessons for canceling a flight without losing money. I mean take it from the travel queen THAT KEEPS NEEDING TO CANCEL TRIPS. I’m high-key over it, but I learned a lot along the way. Since we hate gatekeeping, I’m spilling all of the tea. Now obviously we don’t book trips with the intention of canceling them, but, if the pandemic, its other variants, and this current war in Ukraine has taught us anything, it’s that nothing is guaranteed. Ultimately, when it’s not safe to travel, it’s not worth putting your life at risk, point-blank.

Now airlines, I hate to say it, do not care about your situation.

Now airlines, I hate to say it, do not care about your situation. They don’t care if someone in your family got sick, they don’t care if you broke your leg and can’t walk, and unfortunately, they didn’t sympathize with my reasoning for canceling my trip to Finland and Sweden due to ww3. To emphasize how airline workers are emotionally numb, let’s go back to when I was 8 years old. We’re going on a tangent but trust me, it’s worth it.

Airline Workers Are Emotionally Numb: Missing Flights Edition When I was eight years old, my family and I went to Disney World. We had such a fun trip and yada yada, now it’s time to go back home. My family likes to plan pretty much every second of the day so in the rental car back to the airport, we all slept except for my Grandma who was driving. We wake up about thirty minutes later and we are driving I kid you not through orange groves. We go, “Grandma are you sure this is the right way to the airport”. Reluctant to respond, she dismisses us saying, “Oh yes, everything is fine, go back to sleep”. Let the record be clear that everything was not fine. To say the least, the next 10 minutes were pivotal in our journey back to NYC. Unfortunately, nothing about airport security is easy and we ended up missing our flight. My grandma made up this whole sob story and the workers looked at her dead in the eye and said “you missed your flight”. It’s definitely something to laugh at years later, but at the moment we were so annoyed!! For the cherry on top of it all, when we went to Hawaii, we almost missed our flight again buying all of the pineapples at the airport store. I mean a flight from Florida to NYC is pretty easy to get, but could you imagine if we missed the flight to Hawaii? I literally cannot imagine how that would have gone down. The airline workers definitely would have had no sympathy for us.

Bottom line, airline workers face these sob stories every day and they don’t buy them so we need to make sure that we aren’t put in a situation where we have to depend on someone’s kindness. At the end of the day, it’s a business and if they let everyone book and cancel as they please, they wouldn’t be in business. Each time I called the airline companies, they said that they do not have a refund policy and that there was no way to give a refund. So the lesson here is to always have a Plan B because flights no matter how much you pay for them, are still hard-earned money and it’s not worth losing.

“Let this be my formal statement that moving forward I will not continue to make the same mistake time and

Hi travel besties and welcome to another episode of the Just Book It Podcast. This episode isn’t going to be your typical travel conversation, but instead a way to talk about methods to cope with everything going on right now. As I reflect from not only last year but in 2020 as well, it almost seems as though so much has been happening ever since the first wave of covid. I have attached a comprehensive list of some significant events that have affected the lives of many. I haven’t included everything, so if you are curious about other events, please check out the links right here. Just to start out, if any of you guys have been deeply affected by any events in the past two years, I am so so so sorry and cannot imagine the pain you are going through. My heart goes out to you all and I wish I could give everyone a big hug.

I was particularly motivated to create this podcast with the recent events between Ukraine and Russia. It has been nothing short of devastating to read about, watch, and listen to. I’ve cried, in fact, cried a lot about this because these are innocent lives and a peaceful country that wants nothing to with war. It’s disappointing to see people continue to go about their everyday lives; posting, promoting their brands, experiences, etc when we have a huge global issue going on that affects E V E R Y O N E.

Since the Ukraine is not a part of NATO (an agreement the previous president of Ukraine had with Putin that wouldn’t hinder the relationship with Russia), “We do not have any plans [to deploy] NATO troops to Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said at a press briefing on Feb. 24. “We have already increased and we are increasing the presence of NATO troops in the eastern part of the alliance on NATO territory.” Source

Ways to Cope When There is So Much Going On Right Now Since these are of course unprecedented times, it’s time for us to unite and help each other. That is why I decided to create this podcast on methods that you can incorporate to cope with everything going on right now because you are N O T A L O N E, I promise you. Ready to get into it, let’s do this.

  1. Check In On Loved Ones: We take this one for granted because sometimes we get caught up with our lives, but reach out to your loved ones and say that you appreciate them and love them. We need to show support to our families and even reach out to individuals you know in particular that are struggling and personally affected. Do me a favor and make sure you give your family member, friend, anyone you love a call or text today. – xoxo, Vee

2. Donate: If you’re feeling like I am right now, helpless and unsure of how to make an impact and help the people of Ukraine, giving back is one of the most effective ways. There are many legit organizations that you can donate to at the link here. My grandma has a close friend whose family is currently in Ukraine so if you don’t feel comfortable donating to those accounts, you can Venmo me, and I’ll send it over to my grandma who will send it over to her friend.

3. Spread the Word: We need to keep the conversation going and continue to talk about ways to support Ukraine. It seems like a small task, but you never know who you might b

My favorite parts of traveling could be described into two words, immersion & vulnerability and I go into depth on how those have had an impact on me and my travel experiences.

It’s really crazy how I went from being a lazy child whose favorite part of her family’s Disney trip was the carriage (I am so embarrassed that I had this phase in my life) but it couldn’t be any more different than how I am now- thank god!

The Brooklynite Abroad has SOO much to share so without further ado, cheers this to new venture and spreading the joy of traveling and cultural appreciation!
