The caretaker and the beast. How a little humor helped through some challenging times. Continuing out "soft open" for this podcast of mine. Let's revisit something I said from Episode 1. Topics that may be a bit more serious and how I will handle that.
Welcome to the Functional Middle where I talk about what is on my mind. Light topics or serious. Please give my podcast a listen. This premiere episode is longer as I attempt to explain myself. :) After this, episodes will be closer to 8 minutes, but just as random. Listen and see what you think. What is the Functional Middle? Can I be a member? Is this guy going to just talk about ketchup? What is happening? Why does he seem happy and inviting? I should give this podcast a try.
Games and Ads. I never thought I would have to police the ads in my son's games. I think their algorithms are a little off. I am talking to you misleading cartoon sexualized ad during a 4+ age game. Some games like Roblox have parental controls, but once outside of the official Roblox universe, content gets adult pretty quick. Kids think they are still playing the game, but a few clicks have them exposed.
How I got here. Podcasting and junk.
Today I will focus this short on content creators who have influenced me. I will kick this off with 2 Youtube channels. First is FLuffeeTalks with 1.4 mil subscribers and joined Youtube in 2007 http://youtube.com/user/FLuffeeTalks
The second is Doug DeMuro with 4.43 mil subscribers. His channel is http://www. youtube.com/c/DougDemuro
Riffing on cars and fitting into them. This will be a topic I revisit for sure. Also how my son and I would explore car dealership lots during the pandemic.
Tall Dad, Tall Son. This is pilot episode is an introduction to me and why I have created a podcast. Little lessons for my son, Cassel, age 7. My parents passed over a decade ago from cancer. Six months apart. After the dust settled a bit I thought, "I hope I was paying attention cause the lessons are over." I was only 36. I still think of the lessons they instilled in me through compassion, toughness, humor and by example. Even now I can hear their voices when I am talking to much and not letting my wife get a word in. "You need to take a breath and give Heather a chance to jump in."
With all of this said, they were not perfect. There are things I do better now since they passed. Behavior I no longer mimic like getting mad every time someone tailgates my car as if it WWIII.
I add this point to show my son that making mistakes is necessary, I am not always going to be right and some of these topics may be heavier than others.
I have strong convictions on certain things, but I also able to talk your head off about absolutely nothing.
So get ready to drink from the firehose cause each week I will be sharing whatever is on my mind. Good or bad. Cassel get ready to get to know your father. Maybe you will even learning something that you will hear in your head decades from now.
