Every day, thousands of patients find themselves in orthopedic clinics searching for answers to alleviate their pain and restore their function. And they rely on the doctor they have chosen to offer them the best solutions available. For some, that could mean an injection, oral medication and other non-operative treatments. For others, it could mean surgery. So, how do orthopedic surgeons practice the art of skillful neglect? In this episode, expect to learn more about how orthopedic surgeons decide which treatments to offer, how they handle setting expectations for outcomes, and much more.
The vast abyss of social media circulates tons of great information on fitness and sports performance, but also circulates an even greater amount of fads and advice that is not founded in research or science. In this episode you’ll learn how to determine who is a good source for fitness and sports performance information, the biggest red flags when it comes to consuming this type of content on social media, and much more.

On this episode with Dr. Richard Berger, you’ll learn more about both hip and knee replacement, including common questions that patients have about the procedure, how to know when it might be the right time to decide to have a joint replacement, and much more.
Dr. Richard Berger is a pioneer in minimally invasive joint replacement. Dr. Berger’s technique involves no cutting of any muscle, ligaments, or tendons, on the patient. These advances allow most of Dr. Berger’s patients to walk independently and leave the hospital on the same day of surgery. His mechanical engineering background has also helped him design gender-specific implants that fit and perform better for active patients.
Dr. Berger is an assistant professor at RUSH University Medical Center where he was fellowship-trained in adult reconstruction, and he continues to research hip and knee replacements today.
