Women can get very stressed and manic over Christmas believing the fun is in their hands. Christmas is not your responsibility.
In the spirit of having a fair play Christmas, I recommend pouring a glass of wine, sitting down with your partner/ family and making intentional choices about how you want to spend the holiday together as a couple, or as a family.
The past few years have been absolutely brutal for so many. I’m exhausted absorbing the bullshit put on all the women to do all the things to make the end of this hard year “magical” and be solely responsible for “making memories”
Let’s revolt! (whilst in pyjamas)
We’re here to tell you that Christmas is NOT your responsibility.

Did you know that a staggering 90% of people have a negativity bias towards women
(UN report). But what does this really mean? Ruchika Tulshyan explains it perfectly:
"The same systems that reward confidence in male leaders, even if they're incompetent, punish white women for lacking confidence, women of colour for showing too much of it, and all women for demonstrating it in a way that's deemed unacceptable."
The problem isn’t that women aren’t confident but that confidence in women is not rewarded in the world.

Meet The Trick. A way to talk to your children about the patriarchy. To help them understand we’re all being tricked into thinking particular things about boys and girls, women and men.
I learned about the trick from Robert Webb - his six year old daughter describes the trick as “the thing that makes women get rubbish jobs and makes men sad”
My little boy is 5 and this has become our family code word for gender nonsense and you can use it too! We have introduced the idea to his grandparents too. Giving language to complex ideas is powerful.
Without much conversation at all my little boy could tell me all the ways he sees the Trick tricking him and his friends.
❌ womens are beautiful and men are not
❌ mens drives cars and womens don’t
❌ boys can’t wear colourful nail varnish
❌ only boys can play football
❌ boys can’t have long hair
❌ boys don’t like acting, only girls
He’s FIVE, lives in a country where gender equality is priority and well, I’m his mum! This stuff runs so deep - we have to listen, be pro-active and role model our asses off. Has your child ever noticed the Trick?
Will you try it?

When Dania al-Obeid went to the protest on Clapham Common in London, she was handcuffed and charged. Now she is suing the police – and on a mission to ensure women like her get justice.
”At the time, I didn’t feel like I could fight it, I felt like shrinking and taking up less space. I started to blame myself for ever speaking up. It brought back some of the terrible experiences in my past, and took me to a dark place, where I didn’t think my voice mattered, or that I even had a right to speak.
However, I’m extremely lucky to have a legal team of amazing women who told me my rights and said what was happening was unlawful. That’s why I eventually got the strength to push back.
I want every person in the same boat to know their rights and have the ability to push back and claim their space.
Today, I stand tall as a survivor and say yes, I am a victim of abuse, Sarah Everard is a victim of abuse, along with so many others who are victims of abuse. We demand the space to be angry, sad, devastated. We demand the space to call for change. We will not back down in asserting and protecting our human rights and we will hold those abusing their power accountable.”

This week’s UPFRONT Moment is the second in our three part mini series “Voices exposing misogyny in the system”. I’m in conversation with Dr Jessica Taylor. Jess is the author of 'Why Women Are Blamed for Everything', and the newly released 'Sexy But Psycho'. She has a PhD in Forensic Psychology, and is Director of VictimFocus.
We dig into Jess’s work challenging the victim blaming and pathologisation of women and girls subjected to violence and abuse.

Laura Bates is a feminist writer, columnist, speaker and activist. She is the founder of Every Day Sexism - an ever-increasing collection of more than 100,000 testimonies of gender inequality, which has been described as “one of the biggest social media success stories on the internet”.
”Fix the System, Not the Women” is an attempt to highlight “the interlocking systems of domination that define our reality” – and to pull apart the myth that women are complicit in our own oppression. Laura is exposing the systemic prejudice at the heart of five of our key institutions. Let’s join her.

Why is it so hard to celebrate yourself?
How do you learn to trust that good things will stay and last?
How do you trust your success is real and it was you who made it that way?
How do you give yourself the thrill you would give someone else who was showing up in the world the way you are?
It’s time to learn to celebrate yourself.

Do you struggle to enjoy alone time?
Or do you love taking yourself off for alone time, but struggle to justify it to your partner or family?
Does your fear of time alone drive you to unhealthy levels of busy-ness?
Or are you desperate to find just five minutes for yourself?
Is the idea of ‘needing space’ from someone a foreign concept?
Or else, do you struggle to maintain your independence in your relationships?
Do you want to celebrate and benefit from your alone time – however much, or little, of it you get?
Francesca Specter is the woman for you. She’s written a best selling book Alonement, and in this podcast we dig into themes around embracing being alone, whatever your age, life stage or relationship status.

What does it mean to challenge the status quo? Why should you encourage your employees to challenge the status quo?
Last November we invited our clients and business friends to have this conversation with UK Doctor Meenal Viz. This episode is a recording of this event. Meenal became a global figure after her one-woman protest outside Downing Street in 2020 following the death of a fellow health care worker just days before.
Meenal reflects on her decision to protest against the systemic issues health care workers are facing - and what organisations can learn from her approach.

Public service announcement 🔔 TIS' THE SEASON OF THE MENTAL LOAD. Women can get very stressed over Christmas believing the fun is in their hands. Christmas is not your responsibility.
In the spirit of having a fair play Christmas, I recommend pouring a glass of wine, sitting down with your partner/ family and making intentional choices about how you want to spend the holiday together as a couple, or as a family.
The past 3 years have been absolutely brutal for so many. I’m exhausted absorbing the bullshit put on all the women to do all the things to make the end of this hard year “magical”
Let’s revolt! (whilst in pyjamas)
Will you join me and share a list of all the thing you are not doing this December?

It's an honour to introduce you to Kasey Robinson UPFRONT’s anti-racism coach in residence. When Kasey is not sharing her wisdom and insights on Newsround her work focuses on women’s rights, anti-racism, intersectional feminism, LGBTQIA visibility and rights, masculinities and sexual harassment prevention and period equity. She has an MSc in Gender from the London School of Economics and Political Science and she's ACE. I have learned so much from Kasey and know you will too. Kasey is here because we cannot talk about confidence, about our struggles as women and non-binary people under patriarchy without talking openly, honestly and even if be the case, uncomfortably about whiteness and the role that that plays in setting our intentions for doing work with an anti racist lens.

Do you know how to rest? Did anyone ever teach you? I wish! Rest is political. Many of us have been taught to believe that taking time off isn’t possible. And for many of you, it'll be more difficult than others. Sometimes it feels impossible for me. I hope my experience helps you reflect on your relationship with time off.
In this episode I’m giving you permission to stop. I’m sharing my reflections and details from taking January off and my plan to take August off this year.
I answer all your questions;
How will you manage the fear of missed opportunities?
How will you switch off mentally?
Will you delete apps from your phone?
How will you keep work thoughts/stress to just the once week answering emails?
Often December is considered the rest period, why did you extend it?
How will you manage your income by taking a long time off?
How will you prepare for this and what is the knock-on impact?
Are you taking a full-on social media break? What will you spend time off doing?
As always, thank you for listening 👋

Have you ever been told you need to 'be more confident' at work?
This week we're talking about encouraging confidence in your team. I explain why simply TELLING your employees to be more confident not only doesn't work - it can have a negative impact on confidence.
But there is a way to talk about confidence with your team that DOES work. In this episode, I share my tips for building a culture of confidence in your workplace.

The glimmer and promise strategy is one that is used by bosses, leaders, and managers all over the world. It’s what they do when they want to keep people, but can't be assed doing the work. They cant be assed to create a process to help their employees develop, or at the very least get what they were promised.
I'm here today to help you identify where you are, so you can do something about it. I hope this episode can help you find a process, or if a process ain't coming, help you get the hell out of the place that has no intention of ever walking its talk.

I am a mother and in April, I spent three days on my own in Barcelona. I stayed in a fancy hotel, drank Cava with every meal, napped in the afternoon and didn’t do very much else. Is this radical? Maybe. You told me I was brave. The neighbours thought it unusual. At times, I even wondered… Am I odd?
In this episode I talk about this experience and the questions that have come up for me and for you. I share three regrets, three recommendations, 12 questions to ask yourself - and I set you your UPFRONT challenge.

“As a woman, how do I avoid being seen as ‘bossy’ or 'difficult' because I speak out about the changes our organisation needs?”
I know many of you will balk at this question; dismissing it as sexist, patriarchal, out of date, or the ‘wrong’ question. I urge you to consider that even though we desperately wish questions like this were a thing of the past they are not. They are a daily reality for many many different kinds of women. I ask you to empathise and listen to women who are filled with this fear every day because they work in a system that is nowhere near ready to explore leading differently.
My answer is this. You can’t avoid it. In this episode I introduce three steps for you to take when faced with this question.

This week we’re talking about three ideas that influence how I lead.
What happens when leaders find the courage to distribute rather than hoard power? Creativity multiplies, trust deepens, and inclusivity expands… and a new kind of order emerges.

This week we’re talking about POSITIVITY because I believe that finding positivity in hard circumstances is a skill we can learn and I believe that positivity and power are inherently linked.
I see positivity as part of my job, my service to others and my responsibility.
When positivity holds hands with your anger and frustration it gives you more power to take action.
Let's get to work.

How do we learn to get good at being uncomfortable?
Most people will go to any length to avoid failure. I think we should seek out situations to help us stretch our comfort zone. Imagine we looked at failure the way one ought to see learning - like when we learn to ride a bike or learn public speaking; endeavours practically impossible to master without falling and stumbling first.
Let's learn how fail.

Money is political. I believe that no matter your race, gender, geographic location or the systemic injustices that are racked up against you, you CAN make more money. You deserve to make more money.
If we want the world to be more UPFRONT - where kind leadership and gentle, imperfect activism is the norm - you NEED to make more money.
