Listen in on Heidi's powerful conversation with Stefanie Faye all about the science behind changing and replacing habits that no longer serve us.

About Stefanie Faye:

Stefanie is a former researcher and has spent parts of her career measuring electric conductance of the skin (GSR), facial electromyography (EMG), and heart rate.

She currently works with quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), rhythmic sinus arrhythmia (heart rate variability), neurofeedback, and transcranial magnetic stimulation for clinical treatment at an intensive outpatient mental health clinic.

Her graduate research at New York University and fieldwork at the NYU Phelps lab for neuroscience research, the NYU Institute for Prevention Science, and Yeshiva University's Albert Einstein College of Medicine focused on the cross-section of self-directed neuroplasticity, family emotional climates, and empathy.

For the past decade, She has been teaching and consulting in countries all over the world by combining scientific insights and her training in monasteries with meditation masters from India, Africa, and Vietnam.

She is the host of the Mindset Neuroscience Podcast and currently works as a neurotechnology facilitator and coach.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How habits or automations are actually helpful to our brain because they help us conserve energy and make fewer daily decisions.
  • Many habitual behaviors are often the result of attempting to meet our own internal need for psychological safety.
  • How to start building greater self-awareness, THE first, critical step towards long-term change.
  • Learning to observe or notice yourself can give you clues about why you may continue to run certain habits or automations.
  • How you can lengthen the amount of time between the stimulus and your response by practicing conscious breathing and mindfulness.

Today's episode focuses on three main ways to increase your confidence. Ryan and Heidi teach several methods to increase confidence but in this episode, they will unpack three of them: thought work, credibility, and winning in the mind.

Key Points:

  1. Thought Work:

  2. Thought work involves recognizing negative or limiting thoughts and shifting them towards positive and unlimited thinking.

  3. Thoughts create feelings, which then influence actions and ultimately lead to results. *Note we can go beyond thought.
  4. The importance of going beyond thought and integrating physical sensations in the body for deeper exploration.

  5. Credibility:

  6. This method focuses on building confidence through achievable goals and reflecting on past accomplishments.

  7. Setting small, attainable goals can help in developing a sense of credibility and self-assurance.
  8. The power of recognizing personal achievements and accomplishments as a confidence-building tool.

  9. Winning in the Mind:

  10. Creating vivid mental imagery of a confident version of oneself can help in developing a clearer sense of confidence.

  11. The body does not distinguish between real or perceived experiences, making mental imagery incredibly effective.
  12. Embrace the concept of an unlimited mind, where all possibilities exist.

Bonus Episode- Heidi talks with Megan Rempel, a wife, mom of 4, Registered Nurse, and an online Health & Wellness Coach. Megan's mission is to help women discover that life can actually be easier and more simple if they learn to tap into the energies of their monthly cycle.

We discuss:

  • How allowing our female cycle to be a roadmap for a more effortless way of living, we can feel less stressed & overwhelmed, and more powerful, energized & confident.
  • Many women share the belief that they have the belief that we need to BE all the things for everyone, go go go nonstop when really, we aren't! Nor should we! Our hormones do not support that.
  • Our "high energy" phase of our cycle really isn't that long...yet we are trying to live in that phase all month! This is why so many of us feel burnt out, disconnected, irritable, etc.
  • We NEED to have periods of rest and times when we really allow ourselves to go inward and tap into our feminine energy.
  • How making sure we are getting the right foods and types of movement in during each phase of our cycles can help increase energy, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.

In this episode, Ryan and Heidi discuss the topic of failure and its impact on our human experience. It’s our fear of failure that is a major obstacle that prevents us from taking action and achieving our goals.

We discuss,

  • Failure is often the fear that stops people from taking action and pursuing their goals.
  • The definition of failure is subjective and depends on expectations set by society, parents, or coaches.
  • Failure can be seen as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than a negative outcome.
  • Quitting can also be a form of failure if one doesn't learn from the experience.
  • Fear of failure is rooted in the fear of being embarrassed, rejected, or isolated from one's tribe.
  • Overcoming the fear of failure requires embracing discomfort and seeing failure as an opportunity for growth.
  • Failure should be approached with a process-oriented mindset, focusing on personal development and learning from experiences.
  • Stepping out of one's comfort zone and practicing vulnerability can lead to valuable skills and personal growth.

Powerful Quotes:

  • "I don't think failure is the thing that people are most afraid of, I think it's the thing that stops people the most, from taking action and from going for their goals and dreams."
  • "The only way to fail is to not learn from your circumstance."
  • "There is incredible power in someone saying, 'This environment is not for me,' and being able to shift, change, and course correct."
  • "Failure is not even trying."
  • "Your psychological safety comes from you going all in, giving yourself an opportunity to learn the lessons that need to be learned."
  • "Failure is actually fear of being embarrassed, rejected, and potentially kicked out of the tribe."
  • "It is a completely different experience to start to realize that you can start showing up, you can start really putting your all into something."
  • "If my goal is to be more open and more vulnerable in my relationship, and I flex that muscle and I start practicing that, what a great set of skills to take into my next relationship or any other aspect of life."

In this conversation Ryan and Heidi discuss the transformative power of forgiveness, letting go, and choosing love in order to experience a deeper sense of connection, joy, and personal growth.

Here are the main takeaways and key points:

  • Ryan emphasizes that forgiveness is essential for moving beyond obstacles and experiencing a new and different life. It is not about forgiving the other person, but about liberating oneself.
  • They discuss how people tend to hold onto past experiences and allow them to define their lives. By suppressing emotions and not processing the lessons, individuals can relive negative experiences and limit their growth.
  • Heidi shares her own story of betrayal and heartbreak in her first marriage, where she discovered her ex-husband's infidelity and substance abuse. This experience led her to build walls and fear getting hurt again in her subsequent relationship with Ryan.
  • Ryan reveals his battle with depression and anxiety, which affected their relationship. Both Ryan and Heidi were subconsciously manifesting patterns from their past experiences, leading to emotional disconnection and seeking validation outside the relationship.
  • Heidi admits to using external factors like building a perfect house, focusing on fitness, and other external achievements to distract herself from confronting her buried emotions.
  • When Ryan finally confesses his relationship with someone else, Heidi goes through a period of self-pity, feeling victimized. It takes time for her to understand her role in the situation and develop compassion for Ryan's struggle.
  • Despite the challenges, Ryan and Heidi decide to work on themselves individually and save their marriage. They emphasize the importance of personal growth and self-reflection in rebuilding trust and connection.
  • Love is a choice that goes beyond superficial factors or compatibility. It involves seeing someone's heart and choosing them despite their imperfections and mistakes.
  • Letting go of attachments and stories allows for acceptance and opens up the possibility of creating a new and fulfilling future. It puts one back in the driver's seat and leads to self-compassion and deeper understanding.

Episode Quotes:

"Forgiveness is not about forgiving the other person; it's about liberating yourself."

"We hold on to past experiences in a way that we don't allow ourselves to receive the gift of it and learn the lesson."

"The lesson will repeat itself until we learn from it."

"We were all living a path highly affected by our past experiences until we become consciously aware of them."

"The grass is greener on the other side" mindset can prevent true self-growth.

"When you put walls up to try to protect yourself... you keep out the connection."

"Integration happens... you begin to allow for things to touch you... you allow that to come in and go and pass through you."

Ryan and Heidi introduce a new book club series of podcasts on the book The 15 Commitments Of Conscious Leadership. You don't have to be a leader in the traditional way we think of leadership to benefit from this book- You are already the leader of your own life even if you don't currently lead a team or family.

Book Description:

You'll never see leadership the same way again after reading this book.

These 15 commitments are a distillation of decades of work with CEOs and other leaders. They are radical or provocative for many. They have been game changers for us and for our clients. We trust they will be for you, too.

Our experience is that unconscious leadership is not sustainable. It won't work for you, your team, or your organization in the long term. Unconscious leadership can deliver short-term results, but the costs of living and leading unconsciously are great.

Fear drives most leaders to make choices that are at odds with healthy relationships, vitality, and balance. This fear leaves a toxic residue that won't be as easily tolerated in an increasingly complex business environment.

Conscious leadership offers the antidote to fear. These pages contain a comprehensive road map to guide you to shift from fear-based to trust-based leadership. Once you learn and start practicing conscious leadership, you'll get results in the form of more energy, clarity, focus, and healthier relationships. You'll do more and more of what you are passionate about and less of what you do out of obligation. Your team will get results as well. Drama and gossip will all but disappear, and the energy and resources that fueled them will be redirected toward innovation and creativity.

Any one of these commitments will change your life. All of them together are revolutionary.

What do you need to bring to the table?

Be curious.

Sounds so simple, yet in our experience it's a skill few have mastered. Most of us are far more interested in being right and proving it than we are in learning, growing, and shifting out of our old patterns. By default we gravitate toward the familiar. We're asking you to take a chance and explore the unfamiliar.

Head on over to Amazon or your favorite local bookstore and grab a copy of the book! Join us here on the podcast for the series or LIVE on Facebook Wednesdays starting January 4th at 12PM PST.

In this episode, Ryan and Heidi discuss how we can begin to create the life we most desire by acting and living as if we are just one step ahead of our current perceived reality.

Our brains are always working to create repetitive and predictable algorithms for what's going to happen in the future and it works to keep us in the same experience of life day-to-day. However, we have the unique opportunity to override the system and intentionally plant new imagery and thoughts around who we desire to BE and the life we want to live. This is wonderful and exciting news!!

In this week’s episode, we dive into the topic of letting go in order to discover your true nature and create a different experience of life. Ryan talks about how to let go of thoughts and feelings that make us feel constricted, separate, or not enough.

When we are caught in these lower-vibration feelings we must be able to bring our attention to the experience by becoming aware of it, accepting it, and allowing it to move through us.

These lower vibrations keep us in a patterned and predictable experience of life. When we practice the 3 A’s we are launched into willingness, acceptance, joy, and peace. Life becomes a limitless experience. When we let go of trying to control- we feel more in control.

The 3 A's:

  • Attention- Bring your full attention to the present moment and the sensations happening in your body.
  • Acceptance- No judgment, no narrative. Allowing Liking Circuits to fire up so you can receive the gift.
  • Allowance- Allow the disturbance to be there and pass through you without resistance.

In this episode, we discuss ways you can invite spaciousness into your life including decluttering the following:

  • Your physical environment
  • Your calendar/ time commitments

Ryan and Heidi discuss the practice of "I SEE YOU" and what it can look like to no longer attach to the thoughts and stories that hold us back from fulfilling our true potential or having the relationships and experience of life we truly desire. Being able to see others through new eyes in each moment is a POWERFUL practice that can transform every single relationship in your life.

  • When we pause and become more present with ourselves and those around us, we can open the door to new levels of connection
  • Suppressing, repressing, and denying these aspects of our experience actually strengthens the energy behind them
  • When we are able to bring out attention, allowance, and acceptance of our own perceived limitations of inner critical self-talk, we begin to dissolve the power behind it
  • Noticing the narratives our thoughts that are running in our head and without resistance, we can just become aware and say "I see you"
  • When you begin to let go of those separate parts it's like cleaning the windshield- You can now see more of what is true instead of constantly being stuck in the stories and narratives
  • At our core, as human beings, we all want desperately to be SEEN
  • We must stop holding others to our view of them based on how they showed up as in the past
  • If you are unwilling to truly SEE yourself you are denying yourself the most important human need, belonging
  • When you can belong to yourself it will change the game in every area of your life
  • Do you want to experience more love? Make yourself easier to love by loving yourself first
  • As we begin to liberate energy by letting go of the separate self- we begin to find what our true capacity for connection and love

Ryan and Heidi discuss the importance of us as parents being able to use the tools of co-regulation and objective noticing to teach self-regulation to our children.
* We all what our children to have a competitive edge in life- to be emotionally intelligent, resilient, and confident about taking on any challenge in life * In the US culture, we have noticed how many men are raised to suppress their emotions as they are growing up * Downplaying our children's physical sensations that are leading to big emotions teaches our kids to question, ignore, and mistrust their own internal experience * Diminishing the signal of pain teaches our children that they are bad or wrong for feeling * The goal is to allow ourselves to feel fully in one moment and to let go in the next * The old model vs. the new model of parenting a child through their own discomfort * What is co-regulation? Co-regulation involves one person staying present for another through a challenging experience such that the stressed individual experiences greater self-awareness * How to practice the 3 A's: Attention, Acceptance, Allowance * Using objective noticing to help our children identify the sensations they are experiencing without the "thought story they may want to attach to the experience

Ryan and Heidi discuss several concepts related to experiencing and overcoming resistance that comes with growth and change.

  • Ryan shares about his experience attending the Unbeatable Mind Experience with their 9-year-old son.
  • Experiencing a dip after a big highlight or high in life is completely normal and part of the growth process
  • The feeling of loss we can have when making changes in life is directly related to the death of the "old self" in the form of thought patterns, beliefs, and outdated habits
  • Putting resistance on a rubber band can stretch it to the point where there is a snap back which can be related to the dip we feel after a growth spurt
  • The "crab theory" and you can relate it to your internal domain
  • Stepping into the unknown with the expectation of resistance

Ryan and Heidi discuss how self-development can often be associated with feeling selfish as parents and how when we work on ourselves in service to others we can make a greater impact on our kids, teams, and communities.

Key points:

  • Working on yourself is the most impactful way you can help your kids and those you lead is working on yourself.
  • Ryan shares how there was a time in his life when he didn't understand the need for self-development
  • We live in an instant gratification world that doesn't always align with developing ourselves
  • The only way to be selfless- is to first be selfish- otherwise, you are pouring from an empty cup
  • Cleaning the windshield is a great place to start- this takes recognizing what we don't want and what the end result is if we choose not to take personal responsibility
  • Examine the ways you may be getting instant gratification or avoiding/ buffering and ask yourself if those behaviors or habits really serve you
  • "Start making change a habit"- begin to change things and get used to the feeling of change- lean into the resistance

Ryan and Heidi join special guest Stefanie Faye of the Mindset Neuroscience Podcast to discuss the natural learning process for humans and what that means for us as parents and caretakers.

Key points:

  • Stefanie shares how she became interested in neuroscience and her deep desire to understand human behavior
  • What is self-directed neuroplasticity?
  • Parents and primary caregivers make the greatest impact on the life of a child
  • A human's primary objective in learning is to survive which means we must be as adaptable as possible
  • The human learning process is what sets us apart from other species
  • When we're born we don't have much mastery of our environment but we grow and learn based on feedback from those around us which is mostly non-verbal through signals like facial muscle movement, pupil dilation, etc.
  • The first things we learn about our environment come from very subtle signals (based on internal state changes) from our caretakers or parents- this teaches us how we should respond to the environment (stressful or relaxed)
  • Repetitive data comes from seeing our parents react to outside stimuli to help us decide what is safe or unsafe and what we should potentially avoid
  • We can train our responses by intentionally exposing ourselves to physiological discomfort such as ice baths, workouts, etc.
  • The power of "Don't tell them, show them" is that kids need sensory motor stimulation to learn by seeing and not just being verbally told

In this episode, we have a candid conversation about something that has been coming up a lot lately as a question from people signing up for our Integrated Performance For Leaders Program and who are wanting their partners to get on board and join them in doing personal development work.

We discuss:

  • When we experience the unfolding of new perspectives and growth within ourselves, we naturally want to bring those we care about along.
  • You can't expect your partner's journey to look like yours. We are all individuals and need to have our own reasons and ways of learning and growing.
  • We share about our own experiences being in different places and commitment levels toward our own growth throughout our marriage.
  • Some ways that you can begin to express yourself and your desires without feeling like you're judging, blaming, or trying to rescue the other person.

This week we visited with Ryan's cousin John Wood a father and Chiropractor about how he has continued to give life his all even after losing his youngest son Seth to cancer. John is an inspiration to us and we know you'll find value in what he has to share in this conversation.

We discuss:

  • John shares how he works with patients in his chiropractic practice to help them reset and balance their nervous systems.
  • About 6 years ago John's son Seth developed a terrible headache which was later discovered to be caused by a brain tumor.
  • After losing Seth, John took to the hiking trails as a way to process his grief and ultimately ended up climbing Mt. Rainier several times along with his son Tristen.
  • Ways you can support someone who is grieving or facing loss.

We all have days when we just can't muster up the motivation to stay on track with our goals. Let's face it, you're not going to feel like doing the daily steps to pursue your goals every single day. In this episode, Ryan and Heidi discuss what it's looked like in their own journeys to just "go as far as you can see" and how you can keep up the momentum toward your larger vision.

Key points discussed:

  • Perfectionism holds you back from achieving because when you are caught in that place it will never be "good enough"
  • Successful people take risks and push themselves. They are willing to take that leap without knowing all the answers because they know that nothing will ever come to them without taking action and stepping outside of their comfort zone.
  • Whether you're a parent, leader, business owner, or even moving through something that feels dark and difficult right now, there will be days where you feel that "fire" and other days where it's just hard to get out of bed
  • We've got to get good at living within the "6 inches in front of our face" taking micro steps toward getting just one percent better each day
  • The importance of being realistic about your capacity and energy levels from day to day as you adjust and don't quit

In this episode, my wife Heidi and I discuss what "Don't Tell Them, Show Them" means to us individually as leaders in our family and businesses.

  • We often tell our children or others we lead to do things a certain way but are we really practicing what we preach?
  • Humans don't learn well by words alone, we learn much more effectively by seeing examples and practicing ourselves.
  • Small changes you can start making today to set a better example for those you lead.
  • How using this as a mantra has transformed the way we show up in all aspects of our lives.

They discuss:

  • The powerful and outer results that come from consistently doing the inner work.
  • Mark shares how as a special operator having a seated meditation practice was more difficult so he began to find ways to integrate his practice into his daily activities.
  • Mark shares how mediation transformed his life and how his personal practice has been the guiding force to find clarity and next steps in his life and business.
  • How you can reframe failure as redirection and the understanding that when you truly align with your calling, the only time it's difficult is when you are misaligned or off the path.
  • You can have all of the vision and plans but you must be able to allow the thing to flow effortlessly, rather than constantly pushing. This takes being able to master the non-action side of action starts with being able to overcome the inertia of your mind.

This week on the podcast, Ryan talks with Rev. Dr. Jane Simmons, author of the book "You Can't Sleep Through Your Awakening" about the importance of self-compassion in our growth journeys.

  • There is evidence in the world today of a collective shadow that can only be healed by the practice of radical self-compassion.
  • We unconsciously project our own beliefs about being flawed, wrong, or not good enough in some way onto others when we don't first resolve it within ourselves.
  • Healing past trauma does not mean we condone or completely forget about what happened in the past, it means that we allow ourselves to soften and open with practicing compassion to find freedom.
  • The more we love ourselves, the more beautiful we become. Instead of projecting our negative beliefs onto the world, we can project love onto the world.
  • The more lovable we are to ourselves, the more loveable we are to others. It starts inside each one of us.
  • Ryan shares how his childhood belief of being "stupid" had limited him in so many ways throughout his life until he found self-compassion through shadow work.
  • So much of the messaging we get is to grind, push harder, and overcome but if we don't find a way to truly love and accept ourselves our shadow beliefs will continue to show up in undesirable ways.
  • Self-compassion is the nurturing, safe, healing energy and environment that provides fertile ground for growth.

About Jane:

Rev. Dr. Jane Simmons holds a doctoral degree in Theology from Holos University Graduate Seminary and is an ordained Unity minister. Since her ordination in 1999, Jane has ministered in four Unity churches in Canada and the United States as well as serving as the Teen Ministry Coordinator for Unity Worldwide Ministries. You Can’t Sleep Through Your Awakening is an exploration into what it actually means to wake up and includes tools that contribute to the awakening process. Jane is also the co-author of the beautiful, best-selling book and card decks, Who Have You Come Here to Be, 101 Possibilities for Contemplation. Jane is a powerful speaker, writer, workshop facilitator, trainer, and educator with a focus on virtual online learning.

In this episode, Ryan talks with Gary Simmons, TH.D. a renowned peacemaker and spiritual leader.

We discuss:

  • Gary speaks candidly about his personal quest to create a more connected sense of his own well-being and worthiness for himself in his life.
  • The work is to recognize that whenever we are unhappy with how things are looking around us, it's a reflection that we are actually disconnected from our own authentic self and in turn our sense of well-being.
  • Reconciliation Consciousness: The desire to take back what got created (in any past moment) from our own sense of disconnect or not enough and want to revisit that moment from a sense of wholeness and oneness- something shifts and our intention mirror itself back to us.
  • Taking action that is opposite to our unconscious practices is to begin to wake up and recondition the body to a new mind.
  • Ryan shares about the transformation, realizations, and awakenings he had by doing the Quantum Living Process with Gary after an all-time low point in his own life.
  • We create our own personal reality by our own meaning-making and way of receiving our life. "How are you having your life right now?"
  • We can choose to have our life as if it is FOR US, rather than against us by recognizing our survival strategies have unintended consequences that are not actually beneficial.
  • Through the power of knowing our own worth- everything I have in life can always be my abundance.
  • "The antidote to not enough is not getting more, it's BEing more."

About Dr. Gary Simmons:

Dr. Simmons' teachings and ground-breaking Integral Ministry program is transforming church organizations and helping church leaders energize their spiritual communities and expand their capacity to carry out their mission with greater integrity and congruence.

Dr. Simmons is an ordained Unity minister having served the Unity movement for over 42 years; pioneering 3 Unity churches, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Unity Churches International, and as a VP at the Unity Worldwide Ministries home office and an adjunct faculty member of Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute.

He is the author of The I of the Storm: Embracing Conflict, Creating Peace, a Unity bestseller, now in its thirteenth printing, The Soul’s Conspiracy and is published in the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice. Gary’s work in applying integral principles to evolving church organizations is also cited in Wilber’s book, The Four Turnings.

Simmons is co-founder of The Art of Quantum Living and co-creator of the Quantum Living Process, a shadow work system that focuses on healing and integration. He has served as co-minister with his wife, Rev. Dr. Jane Simmons, at Unity Spiritual Center in Spokane Washington for nearly six years, where they have been intentionally moving from minister to mission-centric ministry.

Dr. Gary holds a 4th-degree black belt in taekwondo. Gary and Jane are retired from pulpit ministry and now live in Kettle Falls WA in their tiny house, just 30 miles south of the Canadian border.

In this episode, Ryan joins fellow IHP Coach Barb Oviatt to discuss the concept of slipping into balance vs. always trying to "find balance" in life. Barb is a champion martial artist turned yogi, coach, and yoga studio owner.

They discuss:

  • How comfort and discomfort "hard and soft" are both necessary for slipping into balance in yoga, sports, business, and life.
  • We can learn to slip into balance rather than looking for balance which can lead us further out of balance.
  • Yoga helps you liberate energy in order to prepare for stillness.
  • Awareness and the willingness to accept and let go of thoughts that are not serving you is the first step.
  • Expect resistance to show up and celebrate it because it is part of the greater balance available.
  • Have self-compassion as you seek to improve and strengthen yourself through your daily practices.

Ryan and Ken's friendship and their ongoing mastermind started with the shared question “Is there more?”.

This inquiry has led Ken to extensively study nutrition, martial arts, energy medicine, quantum physics, neuroscience, epigenetics, universal law, meditation, breathwork, and more.

In this episode:

  • Ken shares his personal journey of building a successful business and coming to the realization that there was only more room for growth and expansion after reaching his former goals.
  • In a pivotal moment, Ken surrendered his ego, beliefs, and perceptions to seek greater meaning and contribution in his life. The better we get at creating our lives on purpose the more our intentions become reality.
  • When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. When the student is ready- the teacher will also disappear as the student becomes the teacher.
  • If you want to master the knowledge you are gaining-teach it. We typically define ourselves by what we know. The ultimate place of discovery is to surrender what we think we know.
  • Opening yourself up to transformation allows the right mentors, teachers, books, and experiences to show up at perfect timing.
  • Ask yourself: I wonder what I don’t know?
  • Curiosity is what leads to growth and transformation.

There's a popular saying that goes like this...

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

But are we stopping to appreciate that without the lemons there would be no opportunity to make the best of it?

And are we missing the joy in the journey because we are too focused on outcomes and results?

We are taught to play to win. Because of this, we can easily end up missing the GIFT of playing the game regardless of the outcome.

This bonus episode was inspired by a few recent realizations that Ryan had around the idea of celebrating life.

We hope you enjoy this bonus episode and share it with someone who would also benefit!

In this episode, Ryan breaks down The Cycle of Transformation model from his book Choice Point.

  • What is the Cycle of Transformation model, and why did Ryan create it?
  • How you can better understand where you are in the cycle at any given time.
  • Digging into each phase of the cycle from Choice Point all the way through Integration.
  • Examples of how creating space in your life can facilitate deeper growth and healing.

Steps within the model:

  1. Growth and healing actually happen in cycles. Transformation starts with making the choice to want to be, do, or have something different in your life. This is the CHOICE POINT.
  2. Next, we must create space for the transformation to happen by clearing out and eliminating anything that is no longer serving who we are wanting to BEcome. This is called creating THE VOID.
  3. Then we begin THE CLIMB. The climb is when we start to practice new ways of thinking, feeling, and being in our life. this is the time when we begin to create new habits and practices that support where we are wanting to go.
  4. When we've been climbing a while, we begin to see new perspectives and can be tempted to stay and rest on our accomplishments. However, this is the slippery ground because it is a FALSE SUMMIT.
  5. If we are not actively pursuing growth, the nature of the mind will be to revert back to old patterns and ways of being. Finally, when we've practiced long enough, we begin thinking, feeling, and being different without any conscious effort at all. This is called INTEGRATION because now the new ways of being have been successfully programmed into our subconscious minds and can be run with no effort. When we arrive at integration it is time again to repeat the cycle starting with the CHOICE POINT.

In this episode, Ryan and his wife Heidi have a conversation about the 5 elements of an environment of growth and how they continue to work toward consistently practicing all five in their own lives.

An environment of growth is defined as a safe space to learn and grow.

All human needs come back down to the basic need for safety and security. The opposite of safety is overwhelm. When we create an environment of growth the outcome is presence. With a sense of safety, the present moment is experienced, and it's only in the present moment that true transformation happens.

  1. Control/Choice
  2. Compassion/Patience (It's ok to make mistakes)
  3. Curiosity/Humor (beginner's mind)
  4. Consistent Connection (Co-regulation)
  5. Optimism (There is a gift in everything)

In this episode, Ryan gives a 10,000-foot overview of Integrated Performance.

He also discusses:

  • Understanding our basic human needs- Identity, meaning, purpose in life, and the feeling of making a difference in the world. Most importantly a sense of psychological safety.
  • When we don't feel our needs are being met, we create narratives that lead to unserving habits and behaviors.
  • We become overly externally focused, afraid of failure, self judgemental, and closed off to new possibilities.
  • We overidentify with roles and achievements such as money, status, etc.
  • We need to train our minds to operate from a place of love, abundance, and wholeness rather than scarcity and lack.
  • Learning to take whatever is happening in the outer world as a catalyst for growth in our inner world.
  • Greater awareness of your true essence allows for a greater capacity to operate from your highest impact self.
  • We can learn to meet our own needs rather than constantly sourcing externally.
  • Integrated Performance is the art and practice of merging the inner and outer world to create the experience of life you most desire.
  • Training your mind to be flexible, mobile, strong, and fast!
