You’ve been there before… prayed for something and felt like God wasn’t there to hear you. He certainly didn’t give you an answer much less the one you were looking for. Today, we’re going deeper into the messages from the weekend about wondering why God doesn’t hear our prayers. I think you’ll be surprised by some of the roadblocks that are there in our prayer life.

But we’re going deeper into that question today and looking at the stories from the Bible where we see that similar situations have happened. What choices are we making? What choices are others making? How do we reconcile that with our daily lives and our faith? Let’s dig in not today’s episode with Natalee and Tommi.

We are in the season of Lent and our series for Lent is Deeper: Spiritual Practices For A More Deeply Rooted Faith. On today’s episode we have both Pastor Jason and Don along with Tommi to discuss the importance of prayer. Pastor Jason gives us the many examples in scripture where we are directed, called, and guided to pray. We have the map laid out for us, but when it comes down to it… it can feel hard. Are we spending too much of our focus on praying the “right way”? Let’s talk through some of those prayer roadblocks on today’s episode.

Our Advent sermon series is based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and on today’s episode of Deeper, we’re talking about Scrooge himself. Listen, we all can be a little Scrooge like from time to time. In Scrooge’s defense… he had gone through some stuff to get him to his cantankerous ways. But what it so amazing about our Christian faith, our trust in God, and the promise of his word is that we can look to our Savior to avoid becoming like Scrooge. Even on our grumpiest days… we have the Hope that is provided with Jesus.

Through the conversation, we can see how we are experiencing the same things today and how scripture is relevant in our present day.

Pastor Scott and Tommi are sitting down today to examine the size of a mustard seed. We’re pulling out the magnifying glass, because that thing is tiny! But in all seriousness, we’re going deeper in the message of our faith and it’s role in overcoming obstacles. In the Bible, we read that faith and small as a mustard seed can move mountains. It’s fascinating to imaging the small amount of faith and the power we hold with it. The power to overcome our struggles, obstacles, and tough times. We all face them, but our faith determines the outcome.

Pastor Jason uses the we’ll-known verse from Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” in his message. With this verse, he helps to demonstrate the conflict and forgiveness within our community and how we can be more like Jesus.

When was a time you needed assurance from God? On today’s episode, touching on the prophet Isaiah and how his time and stories from the Bible really line up with what we face in our lives today. Pastors Scott and Jason both gave messages about the ate chapters of Isaiah writing to the people and we see the way politics play out in the life of the people. After a time of immense suffering, Isaiah tells the people “don’t worry, it will get better”. But, sometimes we’re not ready to hear that. There is always hope in God but it can be hard to imagine in the midst of our suffering. Isaiah reminds of of the assurance we have that God is with us and for us. (Assurance= you steady my heart)
Overall, we hear this message that I am still a child of God. God brings renewal and growth. We know God hears but sometimes we don’t experience it in the way we want to. God brings growth, the assurance, and God works through the people… he works through us. Sometimes people think… but what can I do? The pastors give some ideas for that too.

We're diving into another parable. We're looking at The Parable of The Sower (or Farmer) and The Seed. You'll find this parable in Matthew 4:3-8. Today's episode is a conversation between Natalee Butler and Tommi Garza about the Parable of The Prodigal Son. While this parable is a more commonly recognized parable we are sitting down together to take a deep dive into the different perspectives of the older son, younger son, and even the father. We're asking questions about how this parable relates to us today? And can we relate to each of these characters at different times in our lives? And most importantly, what can we take from this parable as Christians to share God's love, mercy, and grace with others?
