The Icebox Radio Theater
Over the years, the Icebox Radio Theater has done many tributes to radio's golden age in the form of OTR recreations, new productions based on classic scripts. There are episodes of Lights Out, Our Miss Brooks, The Lone Ranger, and more.
Nero Wolfe: “The Case of the Tell-Tale Ribbon” was written by John Ediston based on characters created by Rex Stout. It was originally broadcast over the NBC radio network on March 30, 1951. The Icebox Radio Theater’s production starred Justin Kapla as Wolfe, Dr Hauser & the butler, James Yount as Archie. Dalton Johnson as Jenkins & Larry, Aela Mackintosh as Dorothy, Scotta Turner as Eva, and Jeffrey Adams as Edward & Inspector Kramer. Sound effects by Senara Erwin. It was performed before a live audience at the Salty Jester, Int’l Falls, on April 18, 2024.
“Student Body” was written by F.L. Wallace and directed by Jeffrey Adams. It featured Caleb Silvers as Marin, Karen Shickell as Hafner, Scotta Turner as Atheel, Jeffrey Adams as Krone, Justin Kapla as Tully and Diane Adams as Whitehead. Sound Design by Jeffrey Adams. The sound effects engineer was Serena Erwin. “Student Body” was originally broadcast on the classic NBC series ‘X-Minus One’ on July 31, 1956. This production was recorded before a live audience at The Salty Jester, a performance club in Int’l Falls, Minnesota on May 31, 2024.
“Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar: The Murder is a Merry-Go-Round Matter” was recorded before a live audience at The Salty Jester, a performance club in Int’l Falls, Minnesota on April 18, 2024. It starred Dalton Johnson as Dollar. The cast also featured James Yount, Justin Kapla, Scotta Turner and Aela Mackintosh. The script was written by Paul Dudley and Gill Doud, directed by Jeffrey Adams. The sound effects engineer was Sernea Erwin.
When Candy attempts to help Rembrandt find a new apartment, she lands in the clutches of an evil cult leader. ”Candy Matson: The Egyptian Amulet,” is a re-creation of the classic Old Time Radio script created and written by Monte Masters.
Our program featured Jeffrey Adams as Detective Mallard, Justin Kapla as Rembrandt Watson, Jim Yount as Tessmon, Dalton Johnson as Zoma, and Starring, Alea Mackintosh as Candy Maston, Private Eye.

This production was recorded before a live audience at The Salty Jester, Int’l Falls Minnesota on January 19, 2024. It stars Scotta Turner, Justin Kapla, Karen Shickell and Jeffrey Adams. Quiet Please, ‘The Pathetic Fallacy’ was written by Wyllis Cooper. The episode originally aired on February 2, 1948 over the Mutual Broadcasting System. The Icebox Radio edition was recorded on November 19, 2023 at the Salty Jester in International Falls. It featured Ian Hall as Quinn, Karen Shickell as Alice, Justin Kapla as Sandy, and Charis Boyer as Machine. Directed by Jeffrey Adams. Sound effects by Diane Adams. It featured Aela Mackintosh as Sue, Karen Shickell as Mary, Dalton Johnson as Beau, Mitchell Erickson as Ben, Diane Adams as Madam Rose, and Justin Kapla as the Mayor and ‘Al’.

Tanglefoot, was a recreation of a classic radio play that was originally broadcast on the program, ‘Quiet Please’ on June 6th, 1949. The script was written by Wyllis Cooper. Tonight's recreation starred Justin Kapla as Buck, and Jeffrey Adams as Herbie, who also directed this production.

“The Case of the Slaughtered Santas”, was from The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe, originally broadcast December 22nd, 1950, produced by J. Donald Wilson based on characters created by Rex Stout. The Icebox Radio Theater production was directed by Jeffrey Adams with Foley sound effects created by Evie Conat.
Our cast included Caleb Silvers as Unlucky Santas Turner and Mike, as well as Wayne Stephens, Ian Hall played the cop, Reporter one and Barton, Charis Boyer was Peg and Reporter Two, Jeffrey Adams played Cramer and the real Mr Barton, Aela Mackintosh was Laura, Diane Adams was Reporter 3 and our stars this evening, Jim Yount as Archie - and Mr Justin Kapla as Nero Wolfe.
